Went there for the Sunday roast, so amazing. I had mushroom wellington - very nice, but the side vegetables are what really impressed! Great local pub atmosphere, by the river and with by the river terrace for drinks, lively outdoor burger tent, and cozy dining space indoor. What I will remember about Clapton!

Really buzzy atmosphere, great service - accommodating and helpful, fast and efficient. Food was really good, particularly the truffle mac n cheese with ox cheek, the steak and the apple and leek sausages. Good range of kids meals too. Thoroughly recommend it.

Popular riverside pub with plenty of inside tables if you book and sheltered outside seating with bbq food. Inside menu has wide choice inc vegan and our traditional meals were very tasty. Small car park behind the pub. Youngs real ale on tap. Gets very busy.

Came for a Sunday roast, food was really tasty, good quality and good sides, in particular pigs in duvet. Had good vegan options too which can be rare for a Sunday dinner. Great welcoming family atmosphere. Only complaint was server didn’t write down our order and so a couple of things then came out wrong which we had to keep sending back and asking for the correct items. Also had to keep asking for drinks as nobody came to table in between the food. Apart from that all was good and would come back again

Had dinner with friends here, I had the lentil vegetarian dinner plate, which was scrumptious. Service was great, the servers were so friendly and accommodated food allergies. Will be back soon!

The staff are brilliant - they really make this pub - the food is good (genuinely appealing and interesting menu) and the atmosphere and canalside location are top. We come here often & it’s always a nice visit.

Had high hopes for the food as it looked good but so disappointed! Burger wasn’t seasoned and the patties were over cooked and hard. Chips weren’t great either. Cauliflower and cheese has no taste and the “blue cheese” dip was very different to what I was expecting! My friend had the pork belly roast and she said it was very sweet tasting… The place is lively as it’s just on the canal and good for a drink with mates and animal friendly but other than that, was very disappointed by the food. Couldn’t finish the food because it wasn’t enjoyable and I paid £14 for the burger alone! Fully loaded burger, 2 lots of fries and cauliflower and cheese came up to just over £30! 🤦🏻‍♀️ The service is good and staff were very friendly though.

I have known this pub for many years but last few years it has become very popular so l thought l invite a friends family for dinner and as soon as you enter it gives you the feeling that you need to wait right at the entrance bit because of the way it was set up. After standing at the entrance bit waiting for someone to greet and show you your booked table for near 10 minutes (in the mean time staff are walking passed us, giving us the “why are you standing there?” looks, l approached the bar and then found out that we just had to walk in and find our table. 3 of us sitting around our dinner table and only 2 sets of cutlery turned up and waited for a bit thinking maybe he is gone to get another set of cutlery from somewhere and no, so we had to wave our arms to the bar as staff tends to be more behind the bar and got the other set of cutlery. I think the prices are at restaurant level when its a pub.

Had a lovely Mother’s Day meal with my son . The staff treated us beautifully and each mother was given a gorgeous Tulip ! Aura and all the staff are so cheerful and attentive making this my favourite place to eat with friends and family or just enjoy a delicious glass of wine to unwind . The beef Sunday roast was scrumptious as was my son’s burger shack burger . The fire 🔥 was roaring making for a cosy Sunday afternoon .

Fabulous Service, Atmosphere and loved the the Host’s Flamingo Jumper☺️ The Roast was to die for, the potatoes were a little hard, but didn’t spoil the meal and the desserts were scrumptious 😋

Food was good but very overpriced, 65 quid for 2 roast beef and 2 pints, added on service charge, kids running around, out of all the places I've been on a Sunday for a roast this was the most overrated priced and like eating in a nursery,

We stopped the boat here on Saturday evening on the off-chance there would be a table. What can I say, except this has to be one of the best meals we have had in a long while. We were a mixed bunch of diners but everyone was excellently and imaginately catered for, whether vegan, veggie or carnivore. The lentil cassoulet is to die for and the mac and cheese with ox cheek was splendid. Not only was the food top notch, the service was both excellent and friendly. Dogs are not just allowed, they are positively welcomed. I can't wait to go back.

I love coming here every week. Nice atmosphere and staff very welcoming and friendly. May I possibly make a suggestion about the menu - it seems like it’s more of a menu for a high class restaurant in Chelsea than a good old pub menu. I don’t know what a lot of the names of some of the food is! I’d love to see a more down to earth menu where the choices are recognisable dishes. I find it all too fancy so usually only order the fish and chips! As a non meat eater I’d also love to see Quorn used instead of Soya which isn’t as healthy! So a Quorn lasagna or shepherd’s pie would be amazing! Also Ive never seen salmon on the menu! And finally a normal side salad of lettuce tomato cucumber onion would be amazing and a normal selection of veg also would be good. Thank you x

An absolute gem of a pub, fantastic riverside location, great Youngs Ales and food of the highest standard. The fish and chips were the best I've had for ages! Highly recommended and the team are very friendly 10/10 xx

This pub has always been a great one with its canal location, and the food is amazing and the staff are amazing - but it could do with more of them (the staff) they are absolutely run off their feet. We went for Sunday lunch - so peak time - and were told by the very bossy app that we could only have a two hour table slot (and had to guarantee with a credit card). We ordered drinks at 2pm as soon as we arrived but pub was heaving, and not all of them arrived until 2.30pm when we (finally) ordered food. Which was excellent! Our server very kindly jiggled things around to add an extra 30 mins to our booking, but hello owners, if you invested in employing more people we would would have spent more money, ordering another round of drinks and a dessert had anyone been able to ask us. We will think twice about going on a Sunday again. We were happy to leave our server a tip as she did her very best in difficult circumstances.

I went for a Sunday roast in the evening around 5pm. Some options were not available anymore which is to be expected at that time of day but still a little disappointing. However, I can not fault the atmosphere as it was very welcoming and warm, bustling with young hipsters, families and dogs galore. The staff were vigilant, attentive and friendly, (recognising that our drinks took a while to arrive for instance - they apologised for this which was nice to see). There was a wide selection of food and drink available that was good quality. The food service was quick despite the number of customers present on the day which is always a big plus. I would highly recommend coming here, perhaps a little earlier to avoid the disappointment of sold out roast options.

So disappointed! Slow and hectic service: despite booking, it took the staff a while to find us a table and then we didn't get our drinks until half way into our meal. For a rather pricey roast, we had very small portions and were not asked if we needed anything else when food was brought to the table. We didn’t feel looked after at all and then were billed with a 12.5% service charge!

The staff and the food are great. We’ve now enjoyed two wonderful evenings there. The App is a bleddy joke, however, and bears little relation to what food is actually available. Sort it out because it’s very frustrating ordering something and then the staff having to come over to ask a) what you actually want and b) that what you’ve ordered is not there or different.

The food is exceptionally good, the people working there are very nice and fast. The ambient is very cozy and even if it's always full it doesn't feel too noisy. I would especially recommend the roasts, the chocolate cake is incredibly good, and going in groups of 4-5 so you can gent a table near the window with views to the canal. If I had to ask for an improvement: more Gluten free options would be nice :)

We love the princess , been visiting this pub back in the Prince of wales days , our local ! We booked a table for ten , the staff are super friendly and helpful .. Our food came quickly and every dish was spot on ! Stayed till late and had a really lovely time ! Great atmosphere We also passed by on Christmas Day walking the dog around 12 and ended up saying till 2 pm in the beer garden .. again a great atmosphere Thanks guys !!!

We came here second year running for New Year's Day lunch. Very busy but staff welcoming and efficient as always. The jerusalem artichoke scotch egg was delicious, and the roast beef excellent. The dogs also made welcome!

Starters came alongside mains and (20£) roast came cold Used to be very enjoyable pub with great food, now it's always packed and service seems to be struggling to cope

I saw the burger stand outside, and made the mistake of ordering without checking the price first. Anyone from outside London should look away now; even locals should wince at this: Burger and chips: SEVENTEEN POUNDS AND FIFTY PENCE. Chips: OK, very crunchy but dry and tasteless, luckily there's not too many of them to require a second beer to wash them down Burger: OK, but nothing out of the ordinary, and the patties are small. For a tenner, this would've been acceptable, but not, and I'll repeat this: SEVENTEEN POUNDS AND FIFTY PENCE.

Stopped off here for lunch whilst walking along the canal. Great pub, super friendly staff and great food. Excellent menu and a nice pint of Guiness. Good wine selection as well. Plenty of space inside and out. We will be back again.

These guys made us feel so so welcome. Perfect after our ice skating/falling- lovely wine. Lovely advice. Super nice and accommodating when we weren’t happy with our steak (we really didn’t want to complain as they had been so nice but it was chewy so we thought we’d at least let them know) - swapped it with absolutely zero fuss and full empathy! Veggie Scotch egg was a triumph! Thanks guys!

We had a delightful Christmas lunch at the Princess of Wales pub. The atmosphere was warm and festive, perfect for the holiday season. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the cozy vibe. The meal itself was a traditional Christmas feast, with all the trimmings. The turkey was perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful. Accompaniments like the roasted potatoes, vegetables, and rich gravy complemented it well. The highlight was the Christmas pudding, a perfect end to the meal. Overall, a wonderful experience that combined great food with a festive ambiance.

The Princess of Wales has always been a good shout for a pleasant dinner with friends and family and this pre-Christmas meal was no exception. Our waiter was amusing and very efficient, the food was great as usual (the menu includes a few decent vegan options) and the wine list is extensive; I had a very nice glass of Whispering Angel. We will be back in January!

I had the worst experience in this pub I was spoke to very abusively by a customer, and what I think was the manageress came in from a cigarette break and immediately through my drinks that I was ordering away and proceeded to tell me to leave without even looking at situation. As a person of colour, as far as I was concerned, the only reason that she had this approach was because of my colour, Being this is a pub in the heart of Hackney. I think her approach was very racist and something from the 1970s I will not be going back to this pub again and I would advise anybody of colour to steer clear of this place.

Decent pub by the river, good beer selection, some outside space, food reasonable and very, very dog friendly.

We had our mums wake here and lm so glad we chose this pub , The team here were accommodating , the food was great and the team behind the bar was happy and helpful. The manager Aura is an absolute delight to speak to and nothing was to much trouble, My family would like to say to the the staff a big thank you for all that they did.

You might be put off by this video and despite the burger taking a while to get to you, it’s well worth the wait for this dirty BURGER Shack number. I’ll be dreaming about it for weeks I’m sure. As for the bar itself, very vibey and a great spot next to the canal.

Pleasant pub with good menu choice

Unfortunately I had a very mixed experience here. I’m staying locally for a while and had eaten both an evening meal and had breakfast in the pub the day before and enjoyed it (although expensive it’s good quality). However on Saturday evening I ordered a burger at the bar from the main menu which, I thought, comes with fries. This was the only burger I had seen on the menu over the last 2 days - and comes it with fries. Then after a long 30min plus wait in the garden, after I had to go find my burger and… it didn’t have fries! When I questioned this, the server had a condescending attitude and said it was my fault and I’d needed to pay extra and to take it up inside. Which is not ideal when someone is hungry and frustrated. Then the bartender who took my order got defensive and dismissive with me and said I had placed the wrong order and explained they have 2 menus on a Saturday. Why wasn’t that explained when placing the order? It certainly isn’t made clear anywhere in the pub - there are no signs up. I just got a refund and left - hungry and irate. Not a great way to start your Saturday evening. Although, I will say, the gentleman that seems like the new duty manager there has a great attitude and service sensibility. I normally don’t write bad reviews, but I feel I have to say my piece on this as it really left a sour taste. Note to reply. You 100% have burger and fries at the top of your main menu. I saw it with my own eyes. Poor response to match the poor attitude of the staff.

Great food and service atmosphere only downed by the amount of noisey children crying and making alot of noise.

Went in on Sunday for an unplanned roast. Was very busy but the staff managed to seat us on a table before another sitting came in. Food came out quick, hot and tasty. I had beef roast, meat was tender, trimmings were all done well and a giant Yorkshire pudding. My wife had the chicken pie with mash, again all the trimmings were great extra jug of gravy provided without asking and the pie slapped. Well done POW

Decent pub for a beer by the river and Burger Shack well worth the visit

Very busy, but a reservation ensured we got a table for Sunday lunch. I believe there is a new manager, she knows how to run a pub and the staff seemed switched on and were amazing. Food is outstanding, a great selection on the menu, not just basic food offerings. They are located on the canal side, so great for after dinner people watching. I've never seen so many dogs !!!

Location is ok but that's all. I'm not too fussed about food but we ordered burgers and it was the worst I've ever had. Never had a chewy burger with no flavour, plus it was expensive. All in all regretting coming here.

Lovely roast, good service. Celeriac mash was a nice touch. Yorkshires were decent and the meat was well cooked . Charcuterie board was good, they pickled swede or parsnips I think? Overall good experience

Always wanted to have a Sunday lunch in this pub , roast dinner was delicious ,however the portion size wouldn’t have been enough for my partner !! I wouldn’t recommend you order a bottle of Prosecco!! We ordered 2 bottles for my birthday and payed £70.50 . You can buy 8 bottles of Prosecco for the same price , it is not champagne!!
