The Princess Louise, located in Holborn, is a true gem among London’s historic pubs, offering a charming glimpse into Victorian-era grandeur. Stepping inside feels like stepping back in time, with its stunning interior design that has been lovingly preserved to reflect its 19th-century heritage. The highlight of the pub is its ornate Victorian décor, complete with etched glass panels, intricate tiling, polished wood, and cozy snugs that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The beautifully partitioned booths add a unique touch, giving patrons a sense of privacy while still soaking in the lively pub vibe. Known for its well-kept Samuel Smith’s ales, The Princess Louise delivers both quality and affordability. Whether you’re a fan of a classic pint, a refreshing cider, or something softer, the pub’s selection caters to a wide range of tastes. Its central location makes it a popular choice for both locals and visitors, offering a quintessential British pub experience. Despite its popularity, the atmosphere remains friendly and welcoming, with a mix of after-work crowds, tourists, and those simply looking to enjoy the pub’s historical charm. Whether you’re there for the beautifully restored Victorian interior, a quiet drink in a snug, or just to soak up a piece of London’s rich pub culture, The Princess Louise is a true treasure that embodies the spirit of traditional London pubs.

A notable pub with ornate Victorian hardwood and glass partitions and bar (and very grand original gents toilets) which are a Must See if you are passing. Sadly, the operator (Samuel Smiths) only offers their own label beverages. Fine, if you enjoy these drinks, but grim if you want a better choice. Drop in to see the Splendour and bail out if you don't like the drinks on offer.

Typical English pub. I ordered some banger and smash and my wife got a stew pie. It is close to Piccadilly Circus and is an alternative to the thousands of Asian options in London's Chinatown. They don't take the order at the table despite having few people. The atmosphere is a typical Anglo pub with a wide variety of drinks. It is very pretty and very well decorated. The food just delivered, it wasn't anything out of this world but it wasn't bad either. Maybe I had high expectations.

Beautiful pub, completely let down by it's lack of hygiene. The toilets had not been cleaned for sometime, smelt HEAVILY of urine as you approached them, really off putting. My husband said the men's toilets (hygiene) were the worst he had ever seen. Surfaces all sticky at tables. Real shame.

The building is incredible but the woman who worked the bar today was moronic. Asked for a glass of water for my neice and she kept asking us for ID - I'm 40, my niece is 13. I explained we just wanted to get me a coke and her some water, then sit outside not inside. She was patronising and kept reiterating that she's not allowed to serve a minor. She was never asked to serve a minor, she must have taken exception to us.

Built in 1872, it is a spectacular Victorian building. All the elements found in the architectural and historical list of mirrors, mosaics, tiles, brass and separate bars divided with dark mahogany partitions are present. With its glorious features accentuated between the high ceilings, island bar, marble and stained glass windows. When you enter this pub you take a step back in time and see what pubs once looked like It's a Samuel Smith pub and it's a sight to behold. Downstairs beer/alcohol and snacks, upstairs a pub food menu with the same beers The place is very quiet and sometimes not crowded. Drinking a beer here while silently reflecting is a pleasure.

For some reason they remodeled the pub (not sure how long ago) with these wooden cubicle type areas around the bar area, which just kills the atmosphere (feels very closed in), it has lost it's charm. They still have a small open area in the back of the pub with the traditional open area which is where you will find everyone and a very small area at the front of the bar,(which on a Friday afternoon is a very old crowd). Standard beers on taps. Service is fine.

Very quiet on a summer Monday afternoon with just me and a couple of American tourists quenching their thirst in this watering hole in their European tour. The place sells nothing but Samuel Smith beers of all sorts which happen to be one of my favourite British alcoholic gems. My apricot fruit beer is refreshing but a little on the sweet side. The Victorian decor - repetitive flower mouldings, patterned ceiling, dark stained woodwork … are very quaint but can feel overwhelming. Space is limited so if the crowds come, will be shoulder to shoulder in no time. I did spent a comfortable afternoon pub crawl with the Princess Louise as first stop. Not disappointed.

Beautiful. I can't emphasize enough how wonderful the interior of this pub is. Floor mosaics, wall tiles, wood and glass panels: all completely delightful. It's a real bonus to get a "booth" to yourselves. That said, the rest of the pub lacks for warmth and variety. While there's nothing wrong with Sam Smith's products, there is very little choice here even among SS faves. So visit, for sure, but either be prepared to sup the standard range of drinks or just stay for the surroundings

This is a great traditional pub. However, while enjoying my drink at the bar and was shocked and disgusted to witness both barmaids pour the dregs from the tray under the tap into a glass, top it up with fresh beer, and serve it to a customer. It seems to be common practice to pour the waste into a glass, leave it under the tap, then top it up with fresh beer. I thought this was illegal and is clearly puts the customer at risk.

This pub has always been one of my favourites, I like the booths and lay out, almost from a bygone age. You won't find tv screens, and bad music here, nice to be able to chat to your friends or make new ones. The beer is all Samuel Smiths, which is great if you are a fan, which I am. I gave a overall 4 stars, the reason it's not 5 stars is they stopped selling my favourite beer, DOUBLE FOUR, a lovely crisp, refreshing beer. If anyone is listening please RECONSIDER and start brewing Double Four again. Well worth a visit. Even to admire the tiling and ornate plaster ceiling. Unfortunately never tried the upstairs restaurant, to busy in the bar with the beer. This will always be a good alehouse to me.

This was a great spot to get a good hearty meal on Drury Lane. The staff were friendly and efficient, and I seemed to be one of the first few customers in for an early lunch. I had the fish and chips and later got some ice cream. Maybe a little pricey for portion sizes, but can't complain for London as both were delicious. The pub seemed cosy and had a great atmosphere and a wall in near the tables with some memorabilia, which was quite interesting for me as a thaetre buff. I can't complain too much at all :)

It really pains me to say this, but I’ve just had the worst Sunday roast I have ever had and would not recommend this pub for food to anyone. This is so sad as I have been to the Albert many times and was really looking forward to visiting more often now a good friend has moved in nearby. I hope this review will help improve standards in what is usually a lovely pub and ensure good food standards are maintained as my previous experiences were fine. This afternoon I didn’t want to make a fuss about my food as not to spoil a meal with my friends and partner, but the food was inedible and I had no choice but to send it back. Mistakes happen and I was ready to accept that, but it is sad that no one seemed to care, and this added to my frustration with today’s experience. I ordered the pork belly and when it arrived some of the vegetables (squash) were stone cold and the potatoes barely at room temperature and uncooked on the inside. The plate overall looked great and I didn’t want to say anything as my friends and partner had got their food (sausage and mash), but as I took my second bite I then realised the potato I had just been eating was all black and rotten on the other side and on the inside. It was disgusting so I had no option but to send back to the kitchen. There was not much of an apology, but my plate was taken away swiftly. Sadly, it was only by the time the others at my table had finished their food, that I was brought my replacement roast. This time there was far less vegetables on the plate, although I had previously only eaten half a potato. The potatoes in my new plate looked like they had been reheated quite quickly as they were dark and hard on the outside, but still uncooked on the inside. The pork was also not cooked well with the fat mostly uncooked and inedible. Even the Yorkshire pudding was not cooked properly, so I ended up leaving most of the food. The staff taking my mostly uneaten plate away at the end didn’t seem to notice or care, and there was no apology for the poor prior experience or opportunity for feedback. As I spoke to my partner on the way home he said his sausage and mash were fine, if a little underwhelming. The pub also felt like it could do with a bit more attention in terms of cleanliness, something my partner also noticed. Again, these are things that appear to have changed from our previous visits.
