Prima South Shields Restaurant & Lounge in South Tyneside

We held mother in law funeral wake here.Chips were freezing,poor service at bar,long wait,glasses not collected guests were clearing tables,celabratery drink not on time.Mens toilet atrocious ,no roll holder ,floors soaking wet obviously not being attended enough to clean.I used to go when it was simonside arms,better then give it a miss....keith wilkinson

I dined here on two occasions during my stay here. The first night we were served by a sound young bloke.(Quite tall with beard and glasses) ,(second night by a younger guy & older bloke). Both teams were consistent with their attentiveness. Not over the top but just enough to show that they mean for you to have an enjoyable meal. Over the two nights we had either steak or pasta and were not let down. The steaks cooked to your liking served with home style chips which were all seasoned very well. Pasta nicely al Dente and tasty. Choosing from the main menu there is a great choice with an early bird offer too.Good value for money. Definitely a thumbs up for Prima. See you again next time in South Shields.

The food and service hear was very good and at a very reasonable price. We went on a monday so quite quiet however the resturant was quite cold. Had it been warmer with the heating on would have scored 5 stars.

Used to be a lovely warm place, now ran by utter chavs behind the bar who are more interested in being on there phones than serving customers. The toilets in the bar are absolutely stinking and had no toilet roll. The place has been ran into the ground and I will not be returning.

We decided late on New Years Eve that we would go out for something to eat on New Years Day but knew we'd struggle to get a table anywhere. After trying several other places without success we saw Prima and thought we'd give it a go. The restaurant was empty (except for one couple) so no issues getting a table. We were shown to a table and our drinks orders were taken so we were off to a good start but that's as good as it got. The restaurant was cold (didn't seem to be any heating on) and when the drinks came one of them was wrong so had to be changed (which they did). We just ordered a garlic bread to share (which was very nice by the way) as we wanted to save room for our main courses and possibly a dessert. We had all ordered pizzas for our main courses but considering the restaurant was empty they took a very long time to arrive. Four of us had ordered calzone pizzas and they were all covered with a tomato sauce (which we hadn't asked for but assumed that's how Prima served their calzone pizzas) but we soon realised the sauce was there to cover up the fact that the pizzas were burnt!! We should've sent them back but we were hungry and didn't want another long wait while they replaced them. To be fair the contents of the pizzas were fine but not exactly hot but we just got on with it. I ordered another round of drinks which didn't seem to arrive until I asked the waiter for them after a long wait (apparently the bar had lost the drinks order)!! A few people from our group ordered desserts and were told that they came with ice cream. Needless to say when they arrived there was no ice cream on the plates - when I pointed out we were told they came with ice cream we were told we could have some if we wanted it but we decided to just cut our losses and not bother. One person had ordered sticky toffee pudding but it's got to be the worse one I've seen. There was absolutely no toffee sauce and it had been microwaved to death as it was so dry - needless to say it didn't get eaten!! We just paid the bill and left but we won't be going back again - we really wish we'd driven past it and I would suggest you do this to avoid a disappointing experience!!

Well where do I start. We should have known by being the only people in the restaurant when everywhere else we’d tried was full to bursting. Five of us went for New Year’s Day lunch, firstly they place was absolutely freezing then the drinks order was wrong. We ordered a garlic bread to share it was delicious .Four of us ordered a calzone pizza which on arrival was covered in sauce then we released why it was to disguise they were burnt. Then we ordered more drinks which they forgot about. Deserts was a choice of sticking toffee pudding with ice cream Lemon meringue with ice cream or ice cream. We opted for one of each Sticky toffee fresh out of the microwave,dry had no sauce or Ice cream Meringue was frozen without ice cream, but they got the ice cream right. Service was non existent staff were just standing around the bar. We were so cold we ended up going to the bar and paying the bill. Prima must be the only place in South Tyneside to be quiet on New Year’s Day......... I now know why I won’t be going back

Booked a table as a supprise for my wife to thank her for all the work she has done for the family over Christmas on turning up on time to be told that they were not serving meals due to staff shortage thank you for spoiling my wife's day We whent across the road to the cinder path and had a great meal so thank you cinder path for saving the day, as for prima be advised will not be going there ever again carry on like this and you won't be there very much longer

A New Year’s Day farce. Table for four booked, everyone dressed, in the car travelling to the venue and a phone call is received from the restaurant. 30 minutes before we are due to sit we are told there aren’t enough staff and that the booking will be cancelled. Utterly pathetic at any time, but on NYD with no chance to get booked anywhere else it’s a shambles. I’ve never been here before and I’ll make sure I never have the misfortune to step through the door. I recommend you, dear reader, follow suit.

We have visited the Prima several times before and it was always very good but something has gone very wrong.We went on Xmas day and pre ordered the meals weeks in advance..I am not aTurkey fan so I ordered sea bass to be told on Xmas day they did not have any.I think 2 weeks notice is enough to make sure it is available.My wife was not happy with the Xmas dinner either.Still give anybody another chance so we went on New Years Eve with the family when the food again reached the dizzy heights of mediocrity but the service at the bar was terrible .I know the place was busy but it was a long long wait for a drink..great shame because we used to like the Prima and told friends how good it was but someone has taken their eye of the ball here and we will not be going back

Bought an itison voucher and booked a table for 5pm on Sunday. When we arrived and said we had booked a table the staff member seemed surprised and told another member of staff to set a table "for these two". Our drinks order was taken straight away and I informed our server we had a voucher which included a glass of wine. There was only one other table occupied but we waited ages for our food order to be taken. The food was fine but took quite awhile between courses. The whole area where were sitting was then taken over by a 60th birthday party and we felt we had no option but move to the bar area even though we hadn't finished our meal. A member of the birthday group actually apologised to us. At no point did any staff come to our table and ask if we needed more drinks or if our food was ok. When we reserved our table we were never told the area was reserved for a private party. However if the service hadn't been so slow we might have been finished by then. We had to queue at a busy bar to pay the bill and then were presented with the entire bill. When we said we had a voucher for the third time, the "manager" said "I've never seen one of these in my life"!!A younger member of staff then had to take over and sort it out. We were made to feel like an inconvenience from the minute we arrived and the person I assumed was the manager was quite offhand in his manner and did a very good impression of Basil Fawlty.Wont be returning anytime soon.

25 of us visited for my mams birthday, all meals came out piping hot and all orders were correct, the staff were so helpful and friendly and really made us feel welcome, food was good value for money and the menu had something for everyone. Highly recommend.

Horrific!! I came here often as the sima arms and what a difference! Beer=horrific! Service=horrific (staff on phones), ice =ran out! Time=15 mins for a drink! Staff=no please or thank yous!! Fibe=all people say dog sh it!!!!Update....they are that bad they just charged £6 for a large wine, amstel and a disarano n coke!!! Might own up and pay the full wack...mmmmmmmm eff off !!!! Mugs!!!!!!!! Jackpot late doors but avoid!!!

Me and my partner pop in today for a quick lunch and glad we did £16 for three courses fantastic and couldn't finish all are meal (as the portions were massive) but it was lovely. We also had another reason for visiting as we have book this place for our wedding venue so just checking that there keeping up to standards staff were lovely and cant wait for my wedding party here not long to go.

We booked here for a birthday meal with our daughter and granddaughter. As it was our first visit to this restaurant we were all looking forward to our meal. Sadly thus was a most disappointing experience. We arrived just before our booking time and were sat down immediately, ordered our drinks and within 10 minutes had ordered our meals. Sadly this service wasn't to last. There was only 1 starter that arrived quite quickly, however after 50 minutes we had to ask where the main meals were. We were told they would be out soon! After a further 10 minutes the meals arrived. The pizzas were dry and not particularly well cooked and the pasta carbonara was quite dry with very little sauce. The only success was the chicken burger for our granddaughter. We were told that we would get a 20% discount because of our wait but when the bill came this had not been deducted so we had to ask for it, Once again leaving us frustrated and annoyed at having to ask for this. We will not be going back there again!!
