We have been to Prevost several times as a couple or with groups of friends. The service is always simply excellent, the food courses and drinks are spectacular. My favourite is the smoky bacon old-fashioned. I like the very light decor with the birdcages at each end. It really comes to life on a sunny day. The quality of the food and the cooking is superb. I must admit that I was a little worried when Lee Clarke left, but the restaurant is in safe hands with new head chef (Ricky) . Such a jewel in the Crown, highly recommended indeed.

This lovely hotel has become our 'go to place' to celebrate over the last 3 years. There’s no doubt that it’s very good…but WHY is it not excellent? It slips up on the finer details that make for an excellent dining place or wonderful stay over….it's that extra attention to the finer details that let it down. Our beautiful comfortable room in the old part hotel part of the hotel with fantastic views of the river, gardens and old bridge. Perfect, you would think!….…but have any of the 'managent stayed over to test it? There’s a super modern Dyson hairdryer but no plug near a mirror? WHAT? One single packet of biscuits! No soap containers near the exquisite bath. Is one expected to carry a pool of soap in one’s hand then step into the bath? I could go on! But like the management ……why bother? The Prèvost. A delightful glasshouse restaurant with huge windows that face the river. Wonderful views. It gets hot in the sun in cold June….and they turned the heat off…….and wait until the guests get cold and then ask them to switch it back on! The restaurant manager told me 'she was busy elsewhere!' Why don’t they check the menu on the table is the one the chefs are working to? WHAT? Exactly! This is the second occasion we have discovered this unforgivable mistake, The food is fantastic and has in some instances its taken days of work, to forage, cook down and prepare and present but is sometimes served in little deep dishes that you have a job to see the food at the bottom! I’m delighted that the chefs are encouraged to bring their dishes out and give a little presentation to the guests 'straight from the horses mouth' so to speak. They are busy, and they need to get back so this done at breakneck speed and then the walk back to the kitchen creating a wake of wind as they go. Why are they not been trained, supervised and encouraged to enjoy this inaction with the guests? They are …just left to get on with it without encouragement and guidance? Finally the breakfast…..it was a disappointment..hard yolk in the fried and poached eggs and serve on tepid plates and cool coffee. No attention to detail! Finally, this is the second 'special' occasion we’ve booked and the hotel made no effort to mark it. ……even after telling the person booking 'it's noted!'…but nothing happened. This fanatic hotel has becoming …an 'IF ONLY ESTABLISHMENT…..!

This must be our 6th visit to Prevost and the foods continues to impress. Consistently great food and always excellent service. The tasting menu is an indulgent way to spend an evening with friends. The wine paring was well matched to the dishes but after 8 courses, it was getting increasingly difficult to focus. The chiefs table gave proximity to the kitchen but was a little noisy and didn't provide much of a view into the kitchen. My preference would be one of the 'birdcage' tables in the main restaurant. As always, able to cater for dietary requirements without sacrificing flavour. Another great evening and well worth a visit ....or six.

An unforgettable Friday lunch with my wife. Everything was perfect. We were presented with a voucher by my daughters entitling us to the 3 course menu with champagne. Each course was introduced by a different chef which was a nice touch. All the food was immaculately presented and tasted good. The amuse bouche was particularly tasty. Also worthy of a special mention is the bread and butter which was free flowing. The owners have created a great ambience. The restaurant is an orangery style building and we sat alongside one of the glass walls. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and we had great views over the gardens. The background music is well chosen and added to the relaxing atmosphere. The service provided by Theresa was very attentive and as the restaurant was quiet we had a chance to chat with her and to one of the chefs which was interesting. In my opinion, this is Michelin standard (and we have eaten in a few Michelin restaurants) We will be returning.

We were looking forward to meeting friends here, not having dined here for many years before major renovations had changed the hotel. First impressions, it wasn't as welcoming as we remembered back in the day, contemporary blue lounge, with a marble bar, which did look very smart but sadly didn't serve lagers on tap. I didn't even get to see the dining room as we were shown to the Fitzwilliam Room, a private dining room for about 20 (we were 5) as we were the only ones dining apparently. This would have been just about acceptable except for the banging going on by builders throughout our meal which ruined any semblance of a hotel atmosphere or fine dining experience. Knowing this, we should have been seated in the actual dining room, it would have been better to be dining alone than competing with the clatter of builders. It wasn't our place to complain as we were guests and didn't think it appropriate. Sorry but the food was just OK. Will not be recommending or returning!

We popped in for a drink to see what the refurbishment was like. The hotel looked beautiful from the outside on the walk in from the car park. Arrived at the bar. There was a lad who we think was the barman who was wiping the counter. Three ladies waiting to be served. He didn’t look at us, let alone sat he’d be with us soon etc etc. stood for 15 minutes, then walked to the pub over the road (which was packed) and got served immediately!

Haycock kitchen - we have been here before and had terrible service. There aren't any waiters, waitresses around if you nee anything. They take the orders and leave and don't come back. We hoped it might be better, but it wasn't. Service takes far too long, takes hours for dinner. Also no atmosphere and you feel like you're not welcome. We won't be back which is a shame as the food is excellent.

My foodie friend and I visited here for the first time on a Thursday lunchtime. We were stunned by how beautiful the dining room was and we chose the 3 course taster menu. Each dish was exquisitely prepared and served by a chef to our table with an explanation of the ingredients. Never seen this before. It's a great opportunity to meet he tchefs and for them to interact with the diners. All the dishes had a wow factor and were a feast to the eyes and palate. The service was also excellent attentive. I would love to return here again to sample the course menu. Well done to the Head Chef and his team for producing this high quality food outside of London! 😍😊

We chose the 8 course tasting menu (which with all the little extras is 11 courses) and ever single mouthful of the whole menu was delicious and an explosion of taste. We have eaten tasting menus in quite a few 1 & 2 Michelin star restaurants and the food we had was definitely on a par with some of these. On arrival we were met at reception and taken through to the restaurant. The staff were all so friendly and around if you needed anything without being intrusive. We were shown the menu to make sure we were happy and had no allergies to anything. The chefs bringing the courses out explained every dish superbly. Presentation was first class and the dishes just sublime. The little snacks to start were gorgeous. I’ve never had eel before but it tasted amazing. What the chefs do with the ingredients is truly incredible. The scallops, perfect, trout unbelievable, duck beautiful. The cheese course of ice cream was truly fantastic, fudge oh my goodness could have eaten a slab. Lime pot so fresh, Elton mess to die for and then the little bramble kisses. Everything was so fresh, tasty and I mustn’t forget the delicious bread that they serve too. A fantastic anniversary meal and we will definitely be returning. Thank you to the amazing chefs and restaurant team

Second time here. The restaurant was virtually empty on a Friday night which I thought was odd. We had the tasting menu. The food was really well presented, but that wasn’t enough. The ox tongue was chewy, the scallops were tasteless. In fact all we could taste was the cucumber chunks served with them. The cod was so salty I couldn’t eat it. When we complained, they only took 10% off the final bill even though the majority of the dishes were well below standard. Our first experience of this restaurant was really good, but after Friday night’s experience, we won’t be going back.

An enjoyable ‘eating experience’. The setting is beautiful, the atmosphere excellent, as was the food and service. Although I would agree with some of the other reviews that the restaurant needs a visible maître d', the wait between some courses was too long and the wait for the Bill (I asked 3 times) was too long. But we would definitely return for a special occasion.

When my husband sadly died in late August, there was no need for discussion as to where to hold the Wake ……. obviously it was going to be The Jolly Sailor, Ramsey, David’s preferred drinking place for over 40 years. In his latter years he was even afforded his own seat next to the bar. If someone was in it when he arrived, they were politely requested to move. Stacey, the new Landlady, very thoughtfully placed a photograph of David, together with his pipe and cap, on the seat for the duration of the Wake. Stacey was most helpful and accommodating and arranged a Wake far and beyond my hopes and expectations. On arrival there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the food and presentation was exceptional - the quality, variety and amount. Many complimentary comments were made. She, and her wonderful staff kept the table topped up and glasses full unobtrusively and efficiently. In fact they were firstclass throughout. I would wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend this lovely, atmospheric, friendly and welcoming establishment to anyone looking for a venue in which to hold their event. You would have to go a long way to better it.
