Prestwood Plaice in Chiltern

First visit since the change of ownership and I had seen the mixed reviews from a few months ago. The food - haddock, cod and chips - was perfectly cooked and every bit as good as previously. The shop was very busy (Friday evening) but well organised and the service was both quick and friendly. Three happy customers this evening and very happy to recommend.

The best chippy I've been to in years. My partner and I have been struggling to find a really good chippy since moving to High Wycombe from Birmingham and so glad we've found this one! Had a plaice / haddock and chips with mushy peas. The batter was crisp and not at all greasy and the chips were a perfect consistency.

We tried this chippy for the first time as its the closest to us. Walking in you just dont get the traditional 'chippy' smell which leaves you underwhelmed from the start. Staff seemed slightly chaotic even though the place was quiet. The fish was dry, and the batter had a very strange taste. Chips were luke warm and bland. The only half decent things were the battered sausages. We tried supporting local but will try further afield next time.

I'm leaving this review in the hope the new owners see it. We used to love Prestwood Plaice but you're charging more for sausages and with no jumbo sausages so end up paying double to get 2 tiny ones. Tiny portions on the chips too. All in all a very expensive dinner for not very much food. Please reconsider or you're going to lose loyal customers.

Decent chips, decent sausages and saveloy, but the portions... oh dear. A regular chips used to feed both my boys, with some leftover, but not any more. Regular chips is now a small portion, so slightly disappointing after the change of owner.

Was always the very best Fish and chips, NOT ANYMORE! New owners/staff need training, cold chips rock hard batter, ordered regular chips, got Childs portion, my partner ordered large portion and got xxlarge! Disappointed won't be going back, the people before you couldn't fault them, they had regular people because they were value for money and food was amazing. These néw people have killed there well earned reputation.

Shop has just reopened so went for a Friday lunch time takeaway. Really disappointing, the fish was not crispy, but greasy and soggy. Not the same quality as previous owners/staff. Won’t return.

My family & I love Prestwood Plaice. We never go anywhere else for fish & chips! Never had a bad meal. Everything is always fresh! Very good value for money! 5* Also they do a superb lunchtime special which is excellent value for money!

Delicious very large fresh fish fillets served hot. Chips have improved since a few years ago. Will accept debit and credit cards. May place orders in advance over the phone to avoid the wait while haddock or plaice are freshly cooked.

5 stars, top marks in all areas! So very clean! Friendly polite helpful genuine staff. Great value for money! Very tasty and good size portions. Every time I’ve been my foods been cooked freshly just for me amazing!

Having recently moved to Prestwood from Aylesbury (that's the town where hope goes to die) I was desperate to find a great takeaway that did all or most of my favourite types of food. Thankfully I found this place straight away! On my first visit the people behind the counter knew I was new to the area without me even saying anything and were so nice. We laughed and joked and a few other people also in the premises told me that this place was the best chip shop in the area... they were spot on right! I've been on my own and with other people at least 10 times now and every single time I am welcomed and treated amazingly well, I probably should know the owners names by now but I'm having to much fun to ask whilst I'm in there. For those that drive there's always a few parking spaces right outside but for those who are local it's in the perfect spot for a nice casual walk. The small portion of chips is perfect in size, as a larger guy this fills me up nicely, and with a pie or a sausage it's heaven. The large portion of chips actually fills the entirety of my plate, it's massive! I'd say that if you are a couple or eating with a friend get a large portion and split it with your fish or whatever... speaking of fish. My friend travels for nearly an hour to come see me once a week and the day before always insists we go to this place because he loves the food so much. As we om nom nom nom our food back at my home he constantly remarks how he wishes this chip shop was in his town. Everything is a very fair price considering portion sizes, quality of food and service and of course the fact we are in a small village so their business overheads will probably be quite high, it's superb value for money. I personally enjoy each visit, every single time the food is spot on perfect, I've never experienced such a consistency of top class food and first class service as I have at Prestwood Plaice. Oh and lastly... it's so clean and tidy in there. As I remarked to the awesome guy behind the counter on my last visit this week as I told him I was going to leave a fantastic review... If they ever leave this village... I'm moving to where they go! That's how good the food is here, that's how lovely the people who own/run it are. Best chip shop I've ever experienced.

One of the cleanest food joints I've ever eaten at. Right from the start, I was greeted with a big smile from the cheerful and helpful staff. They were kind enough to present all of their food items and make their reccomendations based on my prefferences. I had the traditional fish and chips. The fish was fresh and juicy, and the chips had a nice yellow colour and a nice salty sweet taste. I also had the mushy peas, which was a perfect dip for the fish. The portion was quite big, and by the time I finished the meal - i was full (and yearning for a bear). All in all, the food is DELICIOUS and the place, SPOTLESS. I recommend you try it, ASAP.

Probably the best fish and chips I’ve ever tried. There was a generous amount of finger-licking good chips, and the fish was fresh and juicy. Kudos to the owners for the cleanliness. The shop was absolutely spotless. The staff were cheerful, greeted me with a big smile and kindly presented their food menu. If in doubt where to eat, Prestwood Plaice is the place for you. Definitely coming back 😋

Large sausage and chips.£5.10 Sausage luke warm and tasted horrible. Chips were nice and nasty, but again luke warm.Second time this has happened at this place.Wont return until it improves Staff excellent.

We always have haddock and chips. Both are consistently excellent. Chips are tasty and a generous portion. Fish is both firm and moist, just as it should be. And the batter is thin and crisp with no doughy or pasty bits. Excellent

Consistently excellent! 2 haddock, small chips, and we can barely finish it because of the portions are so generous. Batter is always crispy & not 'over-battered', chips are fresh. Would give more stars if I could.

Having moved to the area not that long ago, I used to travel to get great fish n chips from a fish n chip shop in Wendover! However, I thought I’d best try my “Local” in Prestwood. Today was the day, and to say I was disappointed is an understatement!! Fish was tasteless, batter was heavy and thick. Chips were cold a soggy! Looks like I’m going back to Wendover!

Chips nice shame the three spring rolls were cold they were cooked on the outside but cold on the inside and we waited 10 minutes whilst they were supposed to be cooked fresh. They had to be microwaved at home very disappointed and not ideal serving uncooked food this was yesterday 26th of September approx 12:30

Excellent fish and chip shop in Prestwood, great friendly service, good quality product, lovely big fish and immense portion of chips. Traditional and brilliant.

Portion size is good, ordered the small size, both the fish and the chips were excellent, could have done with more salt and vinegar as although I asked for a heavy hand you couldn't taste it on one portion of chips and none at all on both fish. I'll remember to take my own condiments next time and there will definitely be a next as the food is proper fish and chips.

Went on a Friday evening, but didn't have to wait that long to be served or get my food. Good fish and chips were decent but would recommend ordering one large chips instead of 2 chips and you seem to get considerably more. Didn't get much change from £15 for 2 cod and chips.

This place is amazing. Lovely chips, chicken, pies, sausages, fish and scampi. Cooked to perfection. My husband and I love this place so much that now we have moved out of the area we do the aprox 7 mile trip to here just to get our takeaway. Lovely staff too and very good prices. Friday's are so busy but it is so worth the wait.

Avoid !!!!!!This chip shop has gone down hill very disappointed there large fish is not in any way large if anything it's tail very mushy not a lot of flavour also contained bones when i phoned up to complain got told i have to ask for the bones to be taken out of the cod before I buy just not happy. me and the family have been using this chip shop for years and now we would much rather go to Holmer green only a short distance but much worth it for good quality food

Just bought large cod and chips, the only large thing about the cod was the amount of batter on it. Inside was a small amount of mushy white stuff, possibly tail. I have had great fish from here in the past but it's a lottery as to what you will get and it's too late when you have got it home to do anything about it. Very disappointed.
