Prego in Bristol, City of

This place has gone down lately. Service slow and awkward. Food very humdrum. Would not allow own bottle of non-alc wine despite them not having any (in the end gave in for a grudging £5 corkage - which we offered anyway). One of the 4 diners could not eat the ravioli as it was rubbery and the cheese inside not at all melted - no discount given nor apology. A great shame as this used to be a nice neighbourhood restaurant.

Good portion for a main course of pasta. It was delicious, I enjoyed the gluten free pasta. Unfortunately they don't have gluten free pizza.

Anniversary meal at this beautiful restaurant. Went a few years ago and still fantastic. Lovely staff, good delicious food and can’t wait to return again. What a lovely evening we had. Thankyou Prego and we will be back. Bev and Ger .

We went for the weekend set lunch (was pretty quiet when we arrived on Sunday 12.30pm). Loved the interiors. Ordered the bruschetta and fritto misto for starters, and the mushroom truffle pasta and Ventricina pizza. Honestly sometimes I'm amazed I don't need to travel far to have good Italian food, and Prego is a shining example. Will definitely return to try their desserts, as we could only stay for a short lunch this time.

I personally think this restaurant is the best I have ever been to. The food is made with fresh ingredients. A 100% recommendation!!!! Loved it!!!

Have been here for two dinners recently. Absolutely yum! Food is fantastic and very good for families with young kids as the restaurant is noisy and bustling. Great atmosphere

Delicious food and choices at reasonable prices. However, beware there is a service charge applied to all bills, which is a personal dislike and rates as a negative with me. I like to tip at MY choice and not have it foisted on me.

Food was good and represented good vfm and it was served hot. Nice decor in this out of town restaurant.

All three pastas were very heavily salted. people with heart conditions are at risk with this level of salt. Suggest staff enquire of customers whether they have a cardio issue before suggesting the main course and should advise they ingest large quantities of water with the meal to avoid long term heart damage

Underrated - extremely good food

Great restaurant. Excellent pasta and pizza. Love it too when the kids menu is essentially mini versions of the adult menu. Brilliant atmosphere.

We were a group of six people enjoying a Saturday evening meal together. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun with no pressure to rush our meal or give up the table. The service was quite grumpy and rushed. We got the impression the waiting staff weren’t having a great evening. This was a pity as the meal was really lovely. Luckily it didn’t prevent us having a great time with our friends.

Healthy beautifully presented food, so tasty, my first time there, lovely staff, friendly & attentive, I will be coming again, music was good too.

Restaurant overcrowded. Pizza uninspired. Pasta first attempt not al dente but undercooked. Pasta second attempt very oversalted (possibly salty pasta water over everything?). Service surly. Sound of cutlery thrown from a height from the kitchen. Optional service charge of 10% not optional but included in bill. No, I do not want to see the naked flesh where my servers jeans end on her back. Back to the Westbury up the road again when I go to see my son at uni.

Excellent value for set 3 course!

Delicious!! We all loved our dinner at Prego. The ambience is delightful with all the fairy lights and the food was fantastic. I had the beef ragu and it was absolutely delicious. The tiramisu was to die for as well!

Very tasty Italian food!! Everything was delicious but the fig pizza was unbelievable and very special! We paid £55 each, what I thought it was a bit too much

Having lived in Bristol for 40 years and then moved, it's our go to place to meet up with friends. It's hasn't changed which in Pregos' case, is absolutely spot on. Love it

We came for an early mothers day lunch. The staff were really friendly and attentive, despite the restaurant being very busy. We enjoyed a mixture of dishes form the al la carte and set menus and everything was delicious. The absolute standout was the 48h rabbit ragu which is one of the tastiest meals I've had in a long time. The set menu was excellent value with two generous dishes for £20. We'll definitely be back.

We popped in for a cocktail and they were absolutely excellent. Mum is still talking about her Old Fashioned (she said it was far superior to her one at littlefrench opposite!) A lovely neighbourhood restaurant.

Best Italian restaurant I’ve ever tried! You won’t regret coming here! I don’t normally do reviews but it was so good I couldn’t not! The service was excellent and so attentive! And the food was 10/10 best Seafood linguine I’ve ever tried! We had three courses each and neither of us could fault anything! Definitely try this restaurant

My companions and I visited this establishment tonight with a reservation set for 5:30. The food we had was enjoyable, however, our overall experience was marred by an incident towards the end of our meal. As we were conversing after dessert, a waitress abruptly placed the bill on our table at 7:20, without us requesting it. This action seemed rushed and unwelcoming, especially considering there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant. To our surprise, at 7:25, the same waitress returned with the card machine, prompting us to settle the bill. This felt abrupt and gave the impression that they wanted us to leave, despite there being ample space available. There was no communication about the reason why the table should be returned.

Menu is a bit limited but the food is nice enough, I wouldn’t rate it as amazing but decent enough. Staff are nice and attentive.

We went on a Friday evening for two and it was fantastic. Really good value for delicious fresh pasta and pizza. Service was really good and vibes great. Even places to sit outside and have a drink / a walk in. Only paid £65 inc tip! Can especially recommend the garlic pizette.

Went for dinner whilst visiting a relative in the same road - booked online and, maybe I didn't notice or it wasn't clear but I advertently booked the outside terrace! When on arrival we were shown here we asked if we could sit inside as it was freezing but were told no as that was all now fully booked... The sourdough bread was excellent, as were the fennel sausage and proscuitto pizzas but the spaghetti carbonara was very small and too salty. Excellent Pulpt cider and staff were all great but in spite of the heaters and blankets it really was too cold - had we been inside we would have had more drinks and deserts but we just wanted to go and warm up!!

Great food, piping hot, with attentive and considerate service to my elderly Mother with regard to the seating and an extra prompt on getting the food to our table. Very enjoyable meal all round and will be definitely going again soon.

The staff were rude and we felt rushed from the off. We were a party of six celebrating a birthday but the priority seemed to be getting us fed, paid up and out the door. I have a gluten intolerance which I mentioned when ordering the chicken. The waitress said she would check my order with the chef and get back to me but it wasn't mentioned again. Presuming everything was OK I ate the chicken only to have a bad reaction that evening.

We ate here after dropping our daughter off at the university accommodation in Stoke Bishop, which was very close. We had a lovely meal and the restaurant was buzzy, but not loud. A mixed crowd, great food, really tasty and excellent service. Looking forward to a return visit soon!

My husband treated me to a meal here I love Italian food and I can say that I was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place for people to try. It’s a must. THANK YOU

Pretty disappointed very little vegetarian options which always seems shortsighted. The dish I had was not very flavourful, lacked any real depth just ravioli with a greasy sage and butter coating a smallish size portion for £17 we asked the server how large it would be and she didn’t seem to know and was vague and inexperienced basically not interested. An old fashioned cocktail that was just bourbon and ice with a sliver of orange, couldn’t detect any muddled sugar or angostura for £11… Total cost for wine, small pasta and cocktail for two £90. Not good value for what we were served I’m afraid sadly as the restaurant itself is pleasant decor and looked clean.

Just a great place to eat. A warm welcome, we sat in the outside dining area on a warm evening. The staff were welcoming,professional, and knowledgeable about wine and our food choices. The atmosphere was lively, service was unhurried, food was excellent and the wine advice was terrific. Can happily recommend Prego

Booked a table for my two year anniversary with my wife. The staff were very friendly and even offered us a complimentary drink due to the occasion. The calamari portion size was very good also!

Absolutely superb experience. We went in to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Jane and Rachael looked after us so well.Service just amazing. Food fresh and delicious. Gelato just as good. A surprise for us as We live in the area yet never knew what We were missing. Keep up the good work. Good team.

We live nearby in Henleaze and went in for lunch to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. Always wanted to come here but end up in London with our 2 daughters working there. Prego restaurant is an amazing place with excellent ambience and best of all…The Staff ! They are just amazing and the force behind their success here. The food just as authentic and tasty. We loved our visit and hope to come here more often now. Keep up the name 👍🏼.

Proper Italian, good food, lovely atmosphere, we arrived after they was closing but was nothing to much trouble for Rachel and the chefs to feeding us 😊, thank you very much!!! We highly recommend this lovely place!!!!

Fabulous independent local restaurant.

We went on a recent Friday night at 6pm for an early dinner. The food and service were as good as the other reviewers say. But, this restaurant is clearly set up primarily for tables of at least 3 people. As a couple, we were put on a table in the centre of the room with both of us facing a dismal black partition divider. When we asked to change, we were told that the restaurant was fully booked and all the other tables were for 4 people or more. When we left, an hour and a half later, several of these tables were still empty. We felt that, with a bit of imagination, we could have been placed on one of those tables and still have finished our meal before the next customer was due. As a result, despite the good food and service, we were left with a negative impression of the place and will not return.

Been to Prego twice now, both times on a Saturday lunchtime. The staff are both friendly and welcoming, and were very helpful with menu suggestions. As we'd been for a walk over the downs we were both first and orderd 2 bottles of Birra Messina, a lovely light Italian lager. We all ordered of the set 2 course menu which was very good value at £19. For my starter I ordered the Bruschetta, which was very flavoursome , my friend ordered the Calamari which looked a large portion for a starter, but got the thumbs up. For our main course we all ordered the Linguine Putenesca, which was delicious and the pasta was cooked aldente. To go with our pasta we had a nice chilled bottle of Sicilian Grecanico. One of our party went for the Main and Pudding 2 course option, and orderd the Set Tiramisu, which was the summer version of the pudding and muscat wine and peaches, very tasty it was to. A very enjoyable luncheon, will definitely return.

Great food, fantastic value, extremely accommodating.

Food and service at Prego was top notch - the overall atmosphere and experience was really good. Catered well for vegans which was nice and they were happy to tailor dishes if needed. It was expensive, but you do get what you pay for.

Really good food, good menu choices, good wine menu, friendly service and we had a lovely time. The only comment I have that is a little negative and the reason for 2 stars on the atmosphere rating is that the restaurant is very packed out with tables and chairs, i would say far too many for the size of the restaurant. We were a group of 8, and we were squeezed into a corner, it was lovely by the window but not a lot of room for the people sitting on the wall side of the table, if anyone wanted to get up you everyone had to get out of there seat. When going to the toilet, I had to squeeze past others' eating.

Best place to eat in Bristol. Lovely staff, both in front of house and in the kitchen. The inventiveness of the kitchen has to be experienced to be believed. Coming here today for the nth time since it opened and finding the place absolutely packed on a Friday lunchtime I was slightly worried that they would not cope. What a clot. The whole experience was wonderful and the food even better than ever. My calamari were cooked to perfection, and as for the hake with clams, mussels and pasta with a green veg. Well what can I say? Just delicious

Fantastic food and excellent service

This is a fabulous restaurant that we tried for the first time today and we will definitely be back. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing too. If you want a basic pizza then this is not the place for you - it's so much more up market and special than that and the lunchtime deal for 3 courses is outstanding. I had the calamari to start then the hake, clams and mussels with orzo for main and the frangipani dessert and the only thing I left were the clam and mussel shells!!

Prego - “welcome”. A common term in Italy but could you be so welcome in Bristol? A morning visit with deadweight legs after 20 minutes to Ikea called for some sustenance and revitalisation. Oh my goodness! What a find Prego turned out to be. We hadn’t booked but were made sooo welcome. The menu is relatively small but perfectly formed. Insalata followed by sea bass on a bed of orzo for me; campanelle alla norma for Mrs T and the boy had bruschetta and bucatini putanesca. Pudding if chocolate mouse - so light it almost floated off the plate!!! This is clearly a popular neighbourhood eatery in Bristol. The whole experience was superb. And the front and back of house deserve so much praise. Visit - you will be Prego’d!!!

Prego is always a good bet. Lovely food, great service and charming atmosphere. Spur of the moment decision to eat out with two fingers upto the living crises and all that doom n gloom. Rang Prego and they had a table....lucky us.

What a fabulous dinner. This was our second time here (this week!). Both times we had a table for 6, with a baby and we cannot fault anything. From starter to dessert. it was delicious and the staff couldn’t do enough for us, especially Jane...

Great place for a meal. Slightly limited choice of Italian dishes though. Parking can be an issue but you can normally park in a side road.

Absolutely stunning venue with covered outdoor seating, lush food and ideal location for walks on the downs.

Special family meal to celebrate wife's birthday. Unfortunately spoiled by the kitchen staff missing her mains order. Either wait for 25min whilst it is cooked or order something else! Never experienced a missed order in my life! Not charged for main dish, obviously, but a place like this should do better.

Took credit card details to book. Couldn't get time I wanted even though the restaurant was not lacking space. Chicken was undercooked. I went for the Devon crab and pasta but could barely see or taste any crabmeat. Quite expensive for what we ordered. I cook better at home. We will not be going back.

It was great. My date took me there, she has never been. Staff ladies were great. It looks like a busy place in the evening and for a good reason. The place looks, nice, friendly, romantic and unique. And the food we ordered was good. I loved the mussels, she wished she ordered them,hehe and prosciutto pizza was great. We liked the Tiramisu. 👌

If you're looking for pizza there are better places to visit. Service is good and pasta delish

Amazing food and lovely staff... What I love most about Prego is that they do amazing kids meals while other places do just sausages, nuggets etc. My kids loved the Rabbit pasta:)

We took the 3 course set menu. Little choice for this type of service but acceptable pastas (the pasta had to cook an extra minute), excellent starters (called "primi"). For desserts (salted caramel and gorgonzola) nothing special. The restaurant does not reflect the Italian spirit at all but small and welcoming.
