Nice quiet Italian restaurant near the centre. Food was amazing. It was probably the best swordfish dish (as daily special) I have ever had — fresh taste of fish was kept, mixed with suitable flavour of tomato. The side mushrooms were also delicious. Enjoyed every second! A bit expensive though, but never mind as you would have such an experience. Added: I went another time and tried the monkfish, which is another daily special and is also good, although I like the swordfish better. The side potato is perfectly salted, and the Crème Brûlée is very creamy. Added again: One of the best Carbonara I’ve had outside Italy. The starter garlic bread with tomato sauce (basically Margarita) is already a meal portion, and it is very tasty.

We had our wedding dinner at Giuseppe’s and it was absolutely perfect. Danny and his team went above and beyond for us and our guests; for which we are so grateful. The food is incredible; authentic Italian, home style cooking served in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. 100% recommend for special occasions (or any occasion actually!) We can’t wait to come back!

What can I say but sublime! I met Giuseppe himself and he was a delightful host! He recommended the Scallops, which were superb and the linguine alle vongole was also a dream. We visited on a Friday evening at 8pm for a Birthday celebration for my youngest daughter. The waitress was very helpful, friendly and efficient. We shared Calamari and Bruschetta between the 3 of us for the starter. Both dishes were very tasty. Our main courses were Pollo Milanese, Seafood Spaghetti and Lasagne. I thoroughly enjoyed the Pollo Milanese and my eldest daughter loved the Seafood Spaghetti. However my youngest daughter was disappointed with the Lasagne, it was very, very cheesy and a bit too salty. We were seated in the middle seating area, which was very brightly lit, a bit chilly with little atmosphere. If I visited again, I would ask to be seated somewhere else. Food and wine are both reasonably priced. I would recommend this restaurant.

This very authentic Italian restaurant is a bit of an institution in Bristol as it has been owned by the same family for over 70 years. Well done, Giuseppe and team!

Friendly service and delicious food served in wonderfully larger portions. Every one of our mains was good. It did feel a little warm until we got distracted by the dishes, but in fairness, it was a particularly hot day and the A/C in the room might have been exhausted. Lovely traditional Italian Restaurant. First thoughts from my starter of fried calamari was okay and with salad garnish smothered in a thick dressing, if a little overpriced. My wife had mushrooms with alioli. Mushroom was as expected, but alioli was excellent. Mains of Linguine Salmone and Fettuccine Mare & Monte were exceptionally good. Nice cosy restaurant, however the food portions were pretty small. I had the ravioli which you could pick as a main or starter but as a main I only got 6 pieces of pasta. Was still pretty hungry so ordered the tiramasu which again was a small sliver. When asked how my meal was I explained I wish there had been more of it, and the waitor said back in the day there would have been more but with the cost of living they've cut portions. I wasn't offered any additional food despite my feedback. It cost two of us 70 pounds for the night with a bottle of wine so not cheap either.

This restaurant used to be the best Italian in Bristol but seems to have lost its crown. We ordered sardines from the specials board which were billed as simply 'sardines' and so we expected them to be fresh and grilled. When they arrived they were fillets smothered in some kind of sauce which could have come out of a tin. Maybe our fault for not eliciting more explanation but even so. We went on to have an average pizza and a pasta dish with some very chewy lardons in it. The waiters did their best and were polite and friendly but service was far too speedy, we were back on the street within the hour which made the evening very poor value for its cost.

Really not a great experience - mediocre food, tired environment & surly staff! My calamari was rubbery and the tartare had 'split'. The sauce on my main of chicken and asparagus resembled Campbells soup presumably straight from the microwave. My pudding of Tiramisu had been slopped on the plate with zero care and my wife's cheesecake was a complete no-show. The tables were of differing sizes and positioned in such a strange arrangement that none of us could work out why. Also there was no salt and pepper anywhere to be seen but really needed to assist the unseasoned food! It felt as though we were a massive mid-week inconvenience to staff which was a great shame too. This restaurant has been a staple in Bristol for many years and, whilst not being all that traditional, it used to be OKish - not anymore!

I was a bit disappointed… The calamari were more salty than having any proper taste, the carbonara although it says it’s a creamy sauce of egg and cheese, it was actual cream (Italian offering carbonara with cream ????), the panacotta was tasteless and the « strawberry sauce » was more like a sugar syrup with artificial strawberry aroma.

The food was good. Most of the staff were nice and professional. One waitress started out being exceptionally rude. We wanted to order some garlic pizza bread while we decided on the menu and she very, very rudely said she couldn’t take a partial order. This is fine, if not unusual, but it’s possible to be more polite or professional about it. When we said we would need a couple of minutes in that case, she very curtly asked if we were done with wine list. We therefore just handed her back the wine list and didn’t bother ordering any wine. It also seemed to be really amusing to the same waitress, for a reason unknown to us, when we asked for olive oil when our side salad came, which was undressed, and she had a laugh about it with the rest of the staff. They do have bottles of olive oil and vinegar for the tables, so it’s clearly not an unusual request. The restaurant is well reviewed and I’m sure that it’s probably a lovely restaurant, also all other front of house staff we encountered were great. It’s just not really acceptable to be rude to customers (and I’d like to add we weren’t being rude to her in the first place), and to talk and laugh about customers in a way intended for them to hear it. We were indecisive about leaving a negative review because all other reviews have been so positive, but this wasn’t our particular experience, and we’ve tried to be as balanced as possible. We would just go to a different restaurant next time, because we were made to feel really unwelcome and quite uncomfortable by one member of staff.

Better than ever. This has been the best Italian in Bristol for as long as I can remember. I've been coming here for 20 years The menu hasn't changed for as long as I can remember. It doesn't need to. They nailed it the first time round. Beautifully fresh, incredible tasting food, with enough variety that you can get what you like. The pasta here shines, the quality of the sauces are incredible. For me, the Scallopino Milanese is the star of the show. Pan fried scallops of veal, with spaghetti and a wonderfully rich and vibrant tomato sauce. My daughter likes the mixed seafood pasta, my partner the chicken dishes and pasta with cream based sauces. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food, the wine is very pleasant and the service is great, really friendly and attentive.

Stopped here for dinner on a Saturday night, we hadn't booked but they were able to seat us. The positive is the food was absolutely delicious, far & away the best pasta dish I have ever tasted & overall the menu looked fantastic. Service was good but we interacted with 3 different staff members & didn't see one smile but they were friendly enough. Prices on the main menu were quite reasonable, they had a specials board with salmon, swordfish ranging from £21-£27 roughly but none of them came with vegetables or potatoes so u had to order separately potentially taking it up to around £30. Drinks list again very good but I do have an issue paying £7 for a pint of Peroni. I've had one in Central London & at Wimbledon & not paid that much. Would recommended though as it's an independent restaurant which is good to see & would visit again.

Having been to the Hippodrome for the matinee and looking for a quality restaurant close by to also celebrate my wife's birthday. My research suggested that although we normally frequented another local Italian restaurant we would visit Giuseppe's. Having booked in advance for 17.30hrs arriving slightly early we found them to be open and received us most professionally, showing us to a table for two which for a change gave ample space. The service was found to be first class and helpful which was greatly appreciated. The menu was also found to be extensive and for the service and quality provided most acceptable in price. In all a very enjoyable and positive experience and we have most positive memories on our return to Cardiff of the day rounded of by our visit to this restaurant. The deciding factor for me is to ask, was it a good and positive experience? if the answer to the question must be would I return? YES see you next time - Many thank to all involved. John

Pure Pasta is in Saint Nicholas Market and is run by a lovely, friendly, Italian couple. The food is tasty and excellent value, whether you take away or eat inside the small unit/the couple of tables just outside. The pair of us left feeling pleasantly full and with change from £20 despite having a couple of 'starters', main meals and a can of diet coke each.
