Lovely place for a delicious lunchtime snack. However, it would be nice if breakfast went in a little longer instead of finishing at 11.30.

Rude owner. As so many others have experienced the whole experience is destroyed by the owner picking fights for completely reasonable requests where a polite ‘no’ would have been fine. Food is only average. Avoid this place.

Prego cafe in Harrogate offers a delightful experience with its fantastic chocolate and orange cake, a true delight for dessert enthusiasts. The cake's rich flavors blend perfectly, leaving a lasting impression. Complementing the indulgent treats are the cafe's offerings of high-quality coffee and hot chocolate, providing a comforting warmth on any day. The ambiance is inviting, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed afternoon or a cozy catch-up with friends. Prego's attention to detail in both their culinary creations and service ensures a memorable visit. We have been in here before a couple of times and it has been okay…..hence the more than 1 star! However, on briefly visiting this place today on a damp Friday at 2.15, doubt we will return. The owner was rather rude, with no people skills at all. So we left him, to his completely empty cafe! On looking at other reviews, it seems it is not an uncommon occurrence! There are plenty of other places to go in Harrogate, where your custom is valued, so go somewhere else, like we did!

I have mobility and vision problems .I went to use the toilets ,which are downstairs ,quite a few steps .A member of staff saw that I was struggling and said come back up ,I have an idea and took me to the staff loo .Which was on the same level .She said it will take you all day to get down and back up again .Such kindness shown to a stranger .Well done . This is 1 place i will never use again. The guy who owns it is polite the food on the other hand wow. Where do i start. Well 26 pounds for 2 teas 2 sandwiches with NOTHING inside. My partner said greggs would have been 100 times better. There was the filling yep the filling and nothing else. Prawn sandwich with 1 hair in side and no salad so that went in the binn. The length of time it took to make and the fact we walked into the park i couldnt even be bothered to return. We had 2 scone kind of things vegan aparently which were dry. So out of all that the chips were ok the teas were ok. 26 pounds i would have had more satisfaction giving it to one of the homeless. Wont be going back there. They knew it was a bank holiday so why have no staff on.? We owned a cafe and always had staff to cope on a bank holiday

Super rude owner who told me off and continued arguing with me (bearing in mind I’m 8 months pregnant) for simply moving two tables closer together. This was to accommodate seating for my disabled uncle and auntie. I was dumbfounded by his abrupt and aggressive attitude: a completely inappropriate way to speak to customers… But from reading the other reviews, this sounds like a common occurrence. Ordered the fresh soup, it tasted like tinned soup, horrible. Asked waitress if it was fresh, told it was frozen soup from a plastic carton and to talk to owner. Waited to talk to owner but obviously ignored, so gave up. Owner generally grumpy with customers and several tables left before being served. He was not very accommodating to anyone who wanted to move a few chairs or a table. Unpleasant atmosphere will not frequent this coffee shop again.

Sorry to say that for £7.05 for a just warm, medium-sized coffee and a "Scoundrel" which was so dried-up and crumbly that I couldn't eat it (took it home for the birds) was poor value-for-money. However, a member of staff was quite nice when approached.

We were welcomed in, the food was very acceptable and the price fair. The place needs a revamp and has the potential to be a very busy, popular tea shop. There was a hole in the floorboards big enough for a foot to go through, the tables and chairs are tired and below deck, the toilets are in a very damp, musty area. The two people who seem to run it are hospitable and courteous and they work efficiently but they really need to look critically at the health, safety and ambience of their establishment. I would close for winter, effect repairs, decorate and re-launch in the Spring!

Bit prickly and unwelcoming service initially, but it did slightly mellow somewhat. Beautiful stone walls inside. Very attractive interior with feature ceiling. Very clean café. Dog friendly. Has a mini dogs rogue's gallery. Has shaded outdoor seating to the front on the pavement. Wasn't busy, almost empty in fact. The Yorkshire Scoundrel was delicious, as was the hot chocolate. The hot chocolate tasted quite oaty-malty, almost as good as the hot chocolate you get in Switzerland. I was a bit surprised to be semi shut in by 3.20 pm, as Google Maps states it is open til 5 pm. NB : - This is NOT the case. It shuts by 3.30 pm. The staff said the owner wouldn't know how to change the hours, but when I offered to do it if they had the hours printed out somewhere, they don't have them apparently. So nota bene, don't visit expecting it to be open til 5. Sitting there finishing my purchases was a bit uncomfortable with the closed sign up and a chair partially blocking the entrance.

Great little cafe, particularly on a sunny day when you can sit outside on the pavement and relax with the busy passing of people. There aren’t many tables outside, and indoors is rather small too, so it gets busy early on, but everywhere is clean and the staff are good at wiping down everything quickly after each guest. There’s a good range of food on the menu, all reasonably priced and the service was fast as well. The sausage & egg sandwich was actually served as a bap, but it was large, tasty and hot on arrival so no complaints there. Hot drinks were presented well and there’s also a few beers available inside on draught, which is a nice touch. For such good value for money I’d happily return and with the great location it’s a favourite of mine in the town now.

Prego. You’re welcome in Italian. What a joke! This owner doesn’t understand the meaning of welcome in any language. His style of customer service favours the Attila the Hun, crossed with Basil Faulty, approach. Try sitting at a table for 4 when there’s 2 of you, despite the place being almost empty, or asking for a third chair at a smaller table with 2 chairs. You will see the owner erupt, turn on you aggressively, and your request will be rudely declined. Forget the Prego, opt for Arriverderci!!!

Wife entered through the door followed by myself with pram. Expected greetings to meet social protocol as a minimum, or potential to excel in the service industry would include ‘hello’, ‘good afternoon’ or potentially ‘how are you?’. Instead, the cheery gent greeted us with a festive ‘we don’t take prams, there’s no space’. Negotiating a world that’s not overly friendly to prams and wheelchairs is hard enough without folk of that ilk. Maybe suggest a takeaway? I don’t know. The setting has less atmosphere than the moon, but the staff do their best with a menu that seems to be forever changing, and one that avoids all the obvious choices people want. I settled for two slices of brown toast. It coast a bewildering £1-75 and came with 2 tiny portions of Lurpak. When I asked for more butter I was told it would cost an extra 20p per serving. Seriously?
