Excellent food, lovely vegetarian choices, well cooked, lovely staff. Waiting time unhurried, dogs welcome downstairs.

Based on our experience at this restaurant it really wasn't great , those reviews below saying it was great ......well good for you and how lucky they were . Extremely slow service , the staff just lacked experience on how to deal with missed side orders and always forgetting things . Food was not cooked through but I didn't say anything as I didn't want to cause a scene . The negative reviews can't all be wrong if that's what they experienced like we did then it shows the reality for some families first time eating at this restaurant hasn't been a great experience. The fact they're closing down really does show they're not giving 100% anymore .

Service really slow other tables commenting the same thing , waited 30 mins for drinks 50 mins for our starter. The main meal ( chicken )was under cooked sent it back only for the waitress to bring it back after speaking to the chef and arguing with me saying it is fine . Refused to accept it and ordered a steak instead . We couldn't wait to get out of there and as we were leaving the chef came out of the kitchen started arguing with my wife about the chicken and the lady on the payment desk started arguing with me over the meal I sent back! (Just pleased they never charged me for the chicken) My advice to them never argue with a customer over under cooked food and send it back to the table expecting the customer to just crack on and eat it! Or carry on arguing as the customer is leaving. Not a good August for this restaurant looking at the reviews ! We definitely won't be returning, I ,wish we had researched this before booking.

Not sure what the some of the other reviews on here are talking about, we’ve been to potters a few times , as always tonight was as good as all the others!!! Service was great and food was spot on, best fish and chips for miles around! You would think as tonight was the last night maybe some things would slip but no , shame your closing but understand the reasons and look forward to whatever you do in the further as we will certainly be supporting it !

We've eaten at Potters every time we've visited Bude on holiday and have never been disappointed. I'm sad to hear that the restaurant is closing before we'll get chance to visit again in October. We've always experienced a friendly welcoming team, service at a speed which is expected in a good quality restaurant where things are cooked fresh, and simply excellent food. Sad to read negative recent reviews, it seems really cruel when the business has announced that it is closing...no-one needs your unkind words now. Running a business is tough, really tough. Sometimes things go wrong and it doesn't matter how many millions of times you get things right, that's not what you think about before you go to sleep. I truly hope those leaving negative reviews take equal time to praise businesses when they've enjoyed their experiences. In a nutshell, Potters is part of some very lovely holiday memories for us, and will be missed. Wishing Oly and Nikki the very best of luck for their new venture.

After a brilliant experience last year we were keen to return to Potters but wish we hadn’t! We’d booked a table in the restaurant, (you had to select the seating option when booking online) but when we arrived were told we had to sit downstairs in the “dog-friendly area” in the entrance. “That’s your table,” we were told being pointed to one that was full of crumbs, squashed peas and fish! I asked for the table to be cleaned to be told “it already should be!” Things got worse when we were presented with our food. The kids fish was far smaller than expected, with a batter that looked more cheap chip shop than restaurant. And then the final straw when I found a large caterpillar in my veg. Thankfully I spotted before I ate the extra protein. The response from the staff was apologetic, but not overly… “Yes, that is a caterpillar. We do wash all the veg but that one must have been extra sticky to the leaves.” I was then offered a replacement bowl of veg (not meal) - I politely declined! I didn’t eat the meal as was feeling rather sick by that point and also wondering how many more caterpillars may be on my plate and although they did remove my meal from the bill, they refused to compensate us further for the hideous experience, telling us “you ate the other meals, you should pay for them.” We discovered later that Potters is closing, which explains a lot - just wish we’d seen the reviews before our visit.

We have always enjoyed Potters and have been impressed at the standard of their food Olly is an excellent chef . We were so disappointed with our meal this time . The starter which we shared was lovely a very nice mackerel pate . The main courses were so disappointing the steak was over cooked and the peppercorn sauce was watery . The southern fried chicken was quite bizzare it was very dark brown and not particularly tasty on a completely tasteless cold waffle with a splash of a honey sauce with a fried egg . It just didn’t work and wasn’t at all nice . The service and staff were really good but I think there was a rush to get you out of the restaurant . We decided we wouldn’t have anything else and went for cocktails opposite . Very disappointing all round and such a shame .

Just returned from a lovely few days in Bude.A highlight was an evening at Potters. We were welcomed offered a menu and a wine list I chose The Venison scotch egg for starters it was delicious it was served hot with a tasty sauce for mains I had the Southern fried chicken waffle and fried egg delicious hot and plentiful with greens .I was recommended a bottle of Pinot Grigio all very good would certainly visit on my next visit to Bude. .

We were greeted by charming polite and efficient staff, but this was a very disappointing meal. I can only assume that your regular chef was away on Saturday evening. My sole was overcooked and garnished with far too much samphire and capers, sat in a sea of greasy liquid, accompanied by overcooked greens. Sadly this disaster was compounded with a very dilute cup of what you were pleased to call 'long coffee' (I had asked for an Americano).

We went last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary whilst here on holiday. So how was it? The menu although not extensive is both interesting and offers points of difference. The service was attentive and efficient. Most importantly the cooking is well done. All our food was made by the man whose name is over the door and it showed. We had a thoroughly enjoying evening & would happily return.

Went on a fairly quiet week night during half term. Despite not being busy this the service was hit and miss which was a shame. Food was good but quite expensive given what it was.

Absolutely exceptional. Superb staff accommodating us, incredible and well balanced food, and exciting wines and champagne.

Perfect for a family meal, pet friendly downstairs area if you need to take the dog. Fish was fresh and tasty, we would visit again.

Got to be honest, just been in for my 43 wedding anniversary meal and it's probably the most disappointing one I've had. No lager,then no beer on draught, took an hour for food to arrive, tiny plaice arrived with a bit of samphire, had to order a side as didn't even come with one new potato. My wife had a fish pie and wasn't impressed. We were enticed in because the menu outside looked good but wasn't available when we went in.

Our first visit to Bude and our first visit to Potters. What a lovely place to eat. Greeted with a warm welcome or exclusive was nothing less than delightful from stay to finish. We sat upstairs in a room with a lovely feel about it, not trying too hard but a really nice relaxed vibe. The food. We often share a starter and dessert. On this occasion, we started with a salmon pastrami dish. WOW! Sensational in flavour and almost melt in the mouth texture, this was just the start. My gf chose fish and chips, which was a lovely piece of fish in a light, non greasy batter, far more than just fish and chips! I chose the fish of the day, whole sole (no head or tail) and it was fall from the bone, but not flakey perfection. We were both delighted with our choices. Finally to dessert, chocolate brownie with ice cream, simple but simply delicious! A very reasonably priced bottle of white and overall a very reasonably priced fantastic meal. We will be back!

Had dinner here in early March, very much out of season - the only downside was just how quiet the restaurant was (we were last to leave an on our own for the last 30 mins). Despite this the staff remained welcoming and we were not rushed to leave. Food was really nice and we thought fairly priced.

Have walked past this place for many a year, but was turned off from visiting by their expensive 'taster' menu - now they have a proper a' la carte and specials menu. We both chose from specials menu - Venison pie and Sea Bream. Good quality food, tasty. Good value. Very friendly service. Only criticism - it was cold!!

Terrific staff, absolutely delicious food and an all round excellent experience. The restaurant was accommodating in allowing us to push our booking back by 15 mins and by allowing one of our party to have 3 starters rather than a main course because he liked all the starters and couldn't decide what to have! Just enough choice on the menu, we went for the "Christmas dinner" which was exceptional. Will not hesitate to return to Potters when we are back in Bude.

Every part of our meal was fantastic. I had the mushroom arancini, the banana blossom fish and battered snickers. My partner had the venison scotch egg, hake and chips and battered mars bar. I came to visit with my mum. We both had the lemon sole which was to die for. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Do make sure you try the battered snickers! Yummy! Will most definitely be back

Never reviewed on trip advisor before, visited Potters tonight with friends, had cold fish served to 2 people, returned and re ordered alternatives as there were no more Monkfish!- was offered to have the Monkfish blowtorched! Sat and watched our friend eat her lovely Sole. Our replacement meals arrived much later. The bill arrived with an additional ice-cream scoop bizarrely. We questioned the bill and received an extremely rude response from the the waitress- very embarrassing behaviour in front of other diners. Sad experience as we had been recommended to visit, won’t be going back.

Fish was served cold but this was disputed by the waitress and chef . Waitress shared that it was very hot to touch so was basically calling us liars . Charged for ice cream that we had not ordered . Very rude when we questioned the bill . We paid and left quickly as the staff became very confrontational.

Goodness me the best fish and chips we have ever had and we’ve eaten a lot! We were welcomed at the door and walked carefully to our table. Service was attentive and second to none. We couldn’t have asked for better. Pricing very reasonable for this quality of food and service. We LOVED that you can choose a dog free area, everyone needs to adopt this!! Fantastic. We just wish you had been open all week we could have come twice :)

We went to Potters Restaurant in Bude Cornwall on 28th September 2023 for my sister in-laws birthday. My brother inlaw booked the table as he lives in Bude & we live in the West Midlands... We went as a party of 4 , read the reviews online & they were quite good. So we went there, we had 4 starters which were very nice but not alot of food for the cost of it. We then had 4 main course's & my sister inlaw had to order a side order of potatoes at an extra cost to go with her fish. I had Haddock which was very nice , but my triple cut chips were horrible. They tasted like old chips & refried & greasy. My brother inlaw had cod , but after a while he suddenly felt sick. He said his fish had not been cleaned properly & he felt sick. At this point we all stopped eating the food , but at no point during the meal did any of the staff come to check if our meals were OK. We called the waitress & mentioned the problem with the meals & she said oh I'm sorry , but I am covering for the waitress who is off sick. She then brought the bill , my brother inlaw & his wife had 2 drinks each & my husband & myself had 1 drink each. Total cost £147.50 6 drinks 4x starters 4x main coarse + one side order of potatoes to go with my sister in-laws sole fish. Very pricey , did not meet our expectations with the reviews we read before going there.

We managed to get a table at short notice. The service was excellent, 3 lovely young women, very attentive. The scotch egg was lovely as was the Tandoori monkfish. We also had the battered mars bar with salted caramel ice cream and it was divine. The whole meal and service was a 9/10, excellent.

Wow what a lovely place. Really nice restaurant where they serve posh fish and chips. We had monkfish scampi, squid and the hake were all superb. Staff brilliant throughout. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone!

Having read so many excellent reviews, we were really excited to try this place and when the "nibbles" of Frickles (fried cornichons) arrived, we were certainly off to a great start. We shared a very nice and reasonably priced Verdelho, which only added to our enjoyment. We then had more sharing dishes, which were of only mixed quality. The Monkfish Scampi was well received, light delicate batter and fresh monkfish. Three of us had the Squid starter. And oh dear! All three had a dark, unappealing batter appearance, we wondered old oil or over-cooked. Certainly after tasting, they were considerably over-cooked, to the point that it was hard to find any squid that has survived! On reflection, we should have returned all three; but we were hungry and ploughed on. We wonder whether the frying station had a poor night; for the three of our fried mains Hake; Cod and Chicken were all also well overdone. Thick, dark, hard batter, which overwhelmed the lovely looking fish and chicken inside. However the Sole, which was roasted, was absolutely divine, plump perfectly cooked, glisteningly white fish, perfect. Service was incredibly friendly and attentive and the place had a nice feel about it (except it was uncomfortably hot, even wearing a t-shirt, I had to go outside twice to cool down). Such are the reviews, I feel sure the chef was having a holiday and were we living nearby, we'd certainly try again; however we don't so sadly we shan't.

Potters is such a beautiful spot in Bude, Nikki and the team were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us, so naturally we enjoyed 3 courses and cocktails! The food was incredible (be brave and have the fried mars bar!) and if you manage a window seat, excellent people/dog watching!
