We called here for a late lunch on the 4th Tuesday in September .We ordered 1 of the specials on the menu which include jacket potato & chilli? I and I had the large breakfast. My wife really enjoyed her meal as did I the full english although bacon a bit hard-eggs cooked to perfection. The flat whites weren’t really flat whites & tasted more like instant coffee. Overall very good food & service A great village location

Wonderful little cafe attached to village shop and post office. Ultra-friendly staff, very dog-friendly (our dog was lucky enough to get some sausage), lovely fresh food. Several locals in the cafe, which is always a good sign. The shop next door is also delightful featuring hand-made items from nearby, maps and books about the area, and a fab variety of food!

After a morning's walk in the forest we decide to have a late lunch here. We found a parking spot on the street outside and got the last free table inside. Good portion sizes and good prices. Friendly service and has a toilet available if you ask. Recommended.

The Cafe in Parkend is close to the Dean Forest Railway station and as a result after travelling on the railway I went to check it out. The cafe is next to the village shop and there are lots of things you can buy there. The cafe is nice and tidy and you can get a variety of snacks, drinks and things for lunch. The staff are very welcoming.

We came here on the little train from Norchard Station on a lovely spring day and were mildly surprised by this little gem of a cafe and village shop. The food was fresh and tasty and the staff in the cafe and shop were friendly and helpful. The village shop had lovely hand crafted items for sale and made a nice change to browsing if you're on the lookout for something a bit different

The cafe is popular and serves good coffee and nice meals, snacks and cake. If I have one complaint it is that the cafe is small and reserving tables just doesn’t work. Maybe it was a one off but people will go elsewhere if they can’t get in and may not try again.

If you want breakfast, get there early as it's pretty small and the place was very busy when we were there around 0930 on a nice Sunday morning in January. Fabulous local community cafe What an asset to the village! New owners have injected love and passion into this lovely business. It’s a pleasure to shop in and treat ourselves to a weekend brunch there. After a bad experience with breakfast at the whitemead forest park restaurant where we were staying, we decided to try this lovely little cafe only two minutes walk away. It was small but instantly very welcoming, they were taking social distancing very seriously which was reassuring. First of all, the prices are amazingly good value, I regularly pay a lot more for breakfast back home. When the food came out, I was gobsmacked, meaty and tasty sausages, the thickest bacon I have ever seen (looked more like Gammon!), yummy eggs and all the trimmings, cooked in a non greasy way but still plenty of juice and flavour. The standard breakfast was £4.50 and the large £6.50, both exceptional value. Would definitely visit again

Absolutely fantastic breakfast. Visited here whilst on a short break away. The breakfast was so good we came back the next day. Prices are really good too as we could both have a large breakfast and drink for less than £15. Can’t go wrong with a fry up and it’s very good here. Would definitely recommend and had we been staying longer I am sure we would have visited again. There is also a great little shop to get a few essentials if you are staying in the area.

We were visiting whilst on holiday. We went in at about 13.45 not knowing that it was approaching closing time. Rather than being told they'd be closing soon, we were rudely informed by the woman serving that we could only have drinks as she's just turned the grill off. Shortly after she came to take our order, in a rather abrupt manner. She returned shortly with 3 drinks, saying that she was finishing at 2pm whether she'd finished or not. She bought out another two drinks, put the closed sign in the door and bought the sandwich board in from outside. We never got the hot chocolate we'd ordered, but we weren't exactly going to ask her for it as she clearly was not in the mood to serve customers in a civil manner. When we went to pay we were served by another lady who was much more pleasant. Not really the sort of service you'd expect and didn't exactly make us feel welcome.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. My girlfriend was able to sit and work for about 3 hours while my friend and I went for a walk in the rain. The staff were very accommodating and gave free wi-fi, plug sockets, a whole table with table service and offered to put the heating up and offered her drinks during this time. When we returned, we ordered a full breakfast and hot drinks which were very reasonably priced. These were made quickly and we really enjoyed it. Throughout our visit, staff were interested in talking to us about our visit to Parkend and also offered advice about other sightseeing opportunities around. We will definitely be returning. The only improvement I can think of would be if the full English included hash browns!

Its always nice when somebody locally opens up a new establishment as we always try and oblige by trying for ourselves what's on offer. This was the case with the Postage Stamp Cafe which has opened in part of Parkend Village Shop and Post Office in March 2014. We visited last week to test the wares and were disappointed by our experience. We were hoping for a light lunch and cake but were told we could only have sandwiches from the shop fridge and that they couldn't make anything else. This was not an option as my wife is allergic to some margarine spreads so has to have pure butter. They couldn't even tell us if the sanwiches were made with butter or not. We ended up with two drinks and two small pieces of cake which were all very acceptable. Now the name is a bit of a clue as to how big this cafe is. Not very!!! The counter is not very big and take into account a dresser in which the dishes are kept and you just have enough rooom for about four tables. However back to my point if your a cafe you should serve food and if you're a tea room you should at least serve afternoon tea. I don't know what the Postage Stamp Cafe supposed to be. I wish them well but believe they are trying to capture a very small niche market that may not exist.

Great tour of the mine. Very interesting and informative. The guide was really good at explaining and he is clearly very passionate about what he does.. You can visit the site for free and without booking, but if you want to go on the mine tour you need to book and pay online via the website. Just beware that the café closes much earlier than advertised and also that some of the information on the website is out of date, including the café menu.
