Really bad food, not at all as described on the menu... GRILLED PRAWNS, NOT GRILLED. CHIPS NOT NEW/FRESH... MORE LIKE LEFTOVERS. AVOID

ABSOLUTLY DISGUISTING ! THE PRAWN STARTERS WERE NOT GRILLED. THEY WERE FRIED SLIGHTLY WITH THE HEADS AND TAILS LEFT ON. FOUR FIRED PRAWNS FOR £7.95 AND ADVERTISED AS GRILLED. THE SALAD BENETH IT WAS OLD ! OUR BURGERS WERE HARDLY COOKED ! DO THEY THINK WE ARE STUPIT?? AND THE CHIPS WERE OLD CHIPS. THEY THINK THE CUSTOMERS WONT REALISE? THE CHIPS WERE OLD LEFTOVER CHIPS. DISGUISTING !

Had a delivery from Fish 'n' Flame for the entire family... Our first try, after new owners renamed from Poseidon. Really impressed with the quality of the dishes... Son had cod... generous portion of cod in light crisp batter, you could tell it was really fresh cod, perfectly cooked. Scampi, calamari and whitebait all delicious, still crisp and hot. Tried their grilled lemon sole too... Fresh, beautifully cooked and presented and well packed for delivery, but perhaps would be better in their restaurant, as was a tiny bit dry... but I enjoyed it very much. However, would possibly have their battered cod next time!! Chips hot and delicious, can't fault these at all. Their home made tartare sauce is great and I love the fact they included this and lemon too. PS chip portion size mentioned elsewhere... We thought these were very generous and 3 were more than enough for family of 4, so no complaints there either!

So, we wanted to check out the new ownership and try the new menu. We decided to go for the roast chicken and chips. The chips are still on point, but the roast chicken was gross. Clearly, they part cook the chicken and then deep fat fry it!!!! Honestly not too sure how this can be called roast chicken, but I would advise my East Finchley neighbours to avoid it at all costs. We had to throw it as it tasted so bad and was super dry. Stick to what the previous owners did well... Fish and Chips

You are always guaranteed the best quality fresh fish at this long standing establishment in east finchley. That is why they are always busy. Well worth a visit if you have yet to go.

Meal was very salty although hadn’t asked for salt and no vegetables although was very expensive. Asked for water 3 times eventually brought even though only people there. No high chairs but interrupted meal to tell us we had children on laps this wasn’t how we’d wanted them to sit. Kept asking where we were from.

the food is always excellent and well prepared. They use fresh ingredients which shows in how tasty their food is. A local favourite for many years.

Went last night to a good friends 70th birthday party, clean premises, really friendly staff and Kat the owner couldn't do enough to please. Food was really good and presentation was spot on. I recommend this restaurant for an overall brilliant experience.

I felt the need to satisfy a craving for fish and chips I've had for the past few years. I had heard good things about this restaurant and I decided to stop by for some take away. The fish and chips were perfectly fried and non greasy. The fish batter was deliciously crisp as were the exterior of the chips. The chips, once bitten into could best be described and fluffy potato heaven.

Recently visited Poseidon with my boyfriend's parents after they raved and raved about it. We dined in rather than getting a takeaway and the service was great. Our waitress was full of positive energy, very hospitable and really did go the extra mile to ensure we had a great experience - pre-thinking our needs, giving us those extra mushy peas because Fred loves his mushy peas so much. It's the little things that go a long way. The food was delicious, between us we ordered: cod (battered), sea bass (whole, skin & bones), salmon (battered). Nothing is under or over cooked, the batter is crisp and light. Oh and the Calamari! Perfectly cooked, PERFECT! Dine in or take out, either way, you're not going to be disappointed.

Excellent fish and chips (cod and haddock) eaten amongst my family. We all loved it. In fact, one of the best fish and chips meals I have ever had - and I have had many, including some Michelin starred restaurant meals. This honestly compared favourably with those yesterday evening - hence felt compelled to leave a well deserved review.

Unless you have money to throw in the bin with the smallest “large” cod in the UK , don’t waste your time going Poseidon Fish Restaurant - High Road!!! We complain about the size and the lady said this was the large!!!! Is ridiculous, I’m furious!!!

The cod and chips took a while to arrive but the wait was worth it.The fish was sweet and full of flavour but the star of the show was the batter,light,crispy and not greasy at all.Accompanied by mushy peas and a wally/pickled cucumber it was delicious.My American friend didn,t leave a speck on his plate.Fish&chips is a very English dish and when it is this good it takes some beating.This restaurant was closed for a while but has come back better than ever.They will be serving up their equally delicious kebabs in the near future.Service was friendly and helpful.

The good was amazing. Had rainbow trout for main, fish soup for starter. Delicious. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Very reasonably priced.

Went with a group for dinner. The service was good. The food was OK not bad not spectacular. The group had different types of fish and chips. It is situated very close to underground station.

Poseidon is one of the best chippys in London, they use really fresh fish, all their chips are homemade, and the oil that they fry in is groundnut oil and not stale. I've never had a bad meal there, they're friendly and the service is good.

Generous portions of cod served with mounds of hand cut (old fashioned not uber trendy!) chips, salt and vinegar - hit the spot. We brought our own tartare sauce (yes...) but made it all come together. Decent option in the area.

No es el más barato el pescado y patatas fritas, pero de muy alta calidad y el servicio era amable y eficiente. Tuve la deliciosa pasta y patatas fritas al ajillo en ensalada con algunos y helado. Ofrecen una gran variedad de pescado frito y a la parrilla y algunas opciones de griego. Ellos están bien establecidos y han mantenido un alto nivel de calidad consistentemente. Although the food was adequate the portions were small. My scallops starter consisted of only 3! For the price I paid for them I found this unacceptable. The Dover Sole was not priced on the Menu as you would see in a high class restaurant. The shop decides the price dependant on the weightI was shocked to be charged £ 28 for a fish about 350 grammes. Not good. Vegetables were not included with main courses. This is an establishment aiming for the high end market but in reality is nothing more than a high street fish and chip shop and a very average one at that. The bread which arrived already buttered was confirmation of this fact

I live in the local area and love Poseidon, it's just a shame that I only just found out about it! The staff are lovely and the chefs somehow manage to cook excellent fish dishes and Greek food alike!

Above average fish and chip restaurant and take away, with above average prices to match. 4 of us had variations on fish for dinner. Service and quality was good, no complaints at all. A bonus was the easy parking at 7 p m. Would go back again.

Having been to this restaurant several times i decided to try the lamb on this occasion as they also offer various kebabs and meat dishes!! OMG! The lamb kebab was the best i have ever had and didn't want my meal to finish. Now every time i come i am torn between ordering fish or meat as the fish is die for too. Seriously has to be tried, worth the journey even if you don't live in the area.

I went into this restaurant for a takeaway after enjoying a few drinks. The service was as usual very good and the quality of the meal was 100%. I use this place about once a week and this time the cod and chips were of supreme quality. I didnt want the fish to end.

A group of nearly 40 of us sat down on a Saturday lunchtime and were all served quickly, enabling us to finish within the hour (pre booked). Speaking for myself, I had a delicious plate of perfectly cooked fish and chips. The batter was light and crispy, and the fish was beautifully white and tender. A nice little side salad, and dish of mushy peas were the perfect accompaniment, not forgetting the tartar sauce. Followed by a creamy, delicious crème brulee, I was most impressed, and would definitely eat here again if I was in the area. The staff were attentive and efficient, and a credit to the family business.

I was taken here by a business colleague who I respect as a 'foodie' (for want of a better word). He told me it was his favourite fish restaurant in London. I was a tad sceptical but he was right!! It is very understated but Poseidon absolutely delivers. I am absolutely sure that Rick Stein would love it here for that reason. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Furthermore, our waiter Jimmy was the consummate professional. It's rare that you meet a waiter who is so knowledgable about the gastronome of the restaurant they work at. We trained 'most' of the dishes and they were all incredible. I'd give 6 stars if possible. Don't overlook this little Jem in East Finchley.

I have been going to the Poseidon Fish Restaurant for many years ! Yesterday I picked up a takeaway for me and a friend. Two Cod and Chips and 1 Fanta Orange all in for just under 18 pounds ! Not Cheap but tasty and good. At home I washed it down with a glass of Trimbach Pinot Blanc 2014. The Fish is always Fresh Reliable and delicious.

While in East Finchley visiting a friend on a week day evening we decided to have a meal at Poseidon and we went through the menu commencing with our starters, houmus and taramasalata served with warm pita slices, this restaurant is owned by a Greek Cypriot family and Mediterranean dishes are featured in every course including the meat dishes, We then had plaice fillet and sea bream with chips and veg side dish along with a glass of house white wine and finished with a dessert taken from the selection of ice creams. The main fish course was very tasty and with generous portions and were really full at end of meal and on reflection could have skipped the starters which would also have helped reduce the fairly hefty bill. The staff were very helpful and friendly! During lunchtime there is a set meal at much lower prices!

We arrived mid week, the restaurant was fairly quiet so no problems with a table, we were served quickly & efficiently. Only had Cod & Chips, Lamb Shish & a drink each & cost was about £30.00! almost double for a take away. The food was good, really fresh fish but we thought considerably on the pricey side. We didn't have a starter or a pud. Will think twice about a sit down here again

I have used this restaurant for at least one year and I have never been disappointedThe fish is always fresh and believe me its not always the case in similar restaurants who declare this and have been found out.The service is great always served in a reasonable time allowing for the fish to be freshly cooked, The wine and other drinks are reasonable priced and always served cold. I would use this restaurant more often but I have to travel 10 miles their and backand I never considered it a wasted journey .Try it you wont be disappointed

Fantastic quality of fish, tried both the haddock and the cod! The batter was crispy and light, and the portions were very large! The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly, accommodating and attentive! Will definitely be going, back highly recommend!!!!

Cod and Chips - how easy can it get? Well not so easy at Poseidon. Maybe they got the mushy from the peas confused with the deep fried cod and came up with mushy cod and peas? That's how it was last night and a few weeks ago when I first tried Poseidon. Fish and chips - a great British dish - ruined by folks who don't seem to know what it is!

A friend and I took dove through the door to shelter from the rain and had a great afternoon. Food was perfect (not greasy or stodgy, like a lot of fish and chips) and the staff were very friendly and welcoming too. Service was solicitous; we were not rushed but allowed to relax into our afternoon. Can find no fault with anything. Other diners seemed to be having equally good afternoons. If only Poseidon was our neighbourhood fish joint...time to open a branch in Fulham...

We visited Poseidon for dinner as a family a few nights ago and it was such an enjoyable experience I felt compelled to write a review on here.The food was of the highest quality and cooked to absolute perfection (I had sumptuous grilled haddock with chips and mushy peas, followed by lemon sorbet to finish- beyond delicious!).The service was warm, friendly and professional. The staff were knowledgeable and paid attention to detail, including informing me of foods that were safe for me given my dietary intolerances. This was my first time at Poseidon but my parents have been several times and confirm that the quality is unfaltering every time they visit.My experience at Poseidon was positive in every way and I will definitely be back very soon.

Yesterday 2 July I went with my teen child to Poseidon looking to get a good fish and chips early evening meal. It was hot outside so thought it would be nice to sit in and eat, we ordered cod and chips and haddock and boiled potatoes. Both meals looked unappealing without any peas or a little salad what was given on a previous visit I didn't want to pay extra for a spoonful of peas or salad when both meals were pricey anyway. My child didn't think much of the cod it was greasy and the fish didn't have the plump flakes associated with cod. My haddock was watery and flavour less and the batter was soggy. I was given about 5 little new potatoes put in a line which just looked bizarre.Both fish were bad quality I suspect they took them from the takeaway next door which were sitting in the warmer and they weren't cooked fresh. We went for the fried option if we had for the grilled it would have had to have been cooked fresh. I also question the authenticity of both fish they were either bad quality or not what is advertised. The meal was £27 an absolute waste of money I don't mind paying for a good meal and this wasn't one. We would have been better buying from the takeaway for at least £10/12. Mind you I won't be going there again ever to eat in or use the takeaway. This place used to be an amazing place for fish and chips but over the years it has gone down. They are resting on what they once were, their Greek menu may be fab I haven't eaten it so I can't comment.The service wasn't great either the waiter was impatient while we were ordering. He appeared annoyed when we just asked for tap water and said 'nothing else?'. We wasn't asked if we enjoyed our meal while we were eating or after. Staff didn't even say goodbye when we left. Yesterday was sweltering I didn't want to get into a conversation with them about the meal as they only seemed interested in the fiscal part of our eating experience and not the service or food side. We were hungry we ate it I just wanted to get home. But it played on my mind so I thought I would leave an honest review of our experience others appear to have had great times and food, we didn't. Hopefully it will help people make an informed choice and to give the organisation feedback. They didn't ask for any yesterday so I will give some today. If you eat there I hope it is a much better experience then ours

Wife & I travel up from Highgate to eat here once a week. There is an excellent and great value 3-course meal available during the day Mon-Fri. Evenings are always fun and, unlike one famous competitor, you can book a table. Wide range of fish from Dover sole, through swordfish to excellent cod. But, Poseidon also serves excellent meat and their lamb chops are to die for.

 There is no doubt that this establishment serves great tasting food so after a visit to the nearby Phoenix Cinema one day my pal and I decided to sit in the window of the restaurant and enjoy the 'eat in' hospitality.We decided upon mixed olives as a simple tasty starter and a main course each. However, a large skate wing and 'super' sized haddock with chips and mushy peas whilst well cooked and highly enjoyable seemed a little over priced in retrospect when we were presented with the final bill at around £60 when all we had to drink was tea and sparkling While the restaurant offers great service with friendly staff and that it is clean and with neutral decor and pretty decent toilets facilities (at least the men's room were) which is always a bonus but we both felt that we had somehow not had full value for money compared to other similar establishments. This may be a better place to keep in reserve to eat-in for something a bit special.I think when we next want a fish supper when in the area again we will resort to the take away option as a far better value for money meal. 

If you desire quality and value, the Poseidon Fish Restaurant will fit your bill. The restaurant, centrally located in East Finchley, is warm, friendly and immaculate. The fish menu was extensive, offering the finest and freshest grilled or fried fish. There are many other menu choices including traditional kebabs on charcoal, and a variety of tasty starters. My party ordered flaky white plaice and haddock fried in matzoh meal to a light golden crust..We also ordered the chicken kebabs, which were seasoned to perfection. The portions were huge. From the dessert menu, we sampled freshly made Greek pastries that melted in your mouth. Their specialty dessert is their creme brulee. The choices all looked pretty "special" to me! Great service, very friendly staff. Definitely on my return list.

We visited Poseidon fish restaurant with friends. We had a great meal and cant wait to return. Our starters included gravlax which was amazing, homemade octopus stew and grilled calamari, which were very tasty! The grilled halibut was beautifully fresh and cooked to perfection which melt in your mouth. We also shared a huge haddock and again it was delicious. The chips were really nice and not too oily. The house white wine, a french Sauvignon blanc, complemented our meal perfectly and was great value for money. This is definitely one of the best fish restaurants we've been to, both in London and abroad!

I went for a recent meal here with the girls and I have to say I had one of the best fish meals I've had in a long long time! The fish and chips were faultless, the batter was not that yucky oily type where you feel you are eating more batter than fish, and the haddock was amazing so fresh! The portions I have to say are in fact too big but it was so good I finished my plate, needless to say I had to undo my button on my trousers!! The Greek side dips that you can order were also delicious and the only negative I have to say is that the fish size is too big!!! I will definitely be going back and when in need of a take away this will be first choice without a doubt! Highly recommend!

Have ordered from here many times and the food is worse than terrible. Twice have gone for my money back. I would advise anyone who dislikes stale, uncooked, overpriced food to not order food from this place.

I am not surprised that this fish and chips take-away with adjoining restaurant has not had a review before as I note that it is recorded on TP as being in 'Longdon' rather than East Finchley, London N.2 which is here it is and not the fictitious place referred to!! However, it is worth recording that I popped by here recently with a pal at the end of a long day strolling through the city in the sunshine. Although we had a choice of almost everything London had to offer as we passed through we decided to revisit Poseidon as we had not been there for a while and we fancied a decent take-away. We were left wondering why not as we were served with a sumptuous freshly cooked large haddock and crisp chunky chips that we both satiated on. The mushy peas were also fine. Overall we both thought our meal was faultless. We will be returning to pick up another take-away from here again quite soon I am sure.
