If you’re after good food, beer and live music, then this is the place. We happened upon this place through our son. Had a great Friday night with an original menu and real ale. Suitable for all family ages.

The decoration is quirky and beautiful in this pub. It has such a vintage atmosphere. The food was great and quite affordable. I recommend chicken with thyme and their veggie burger, both were really tasty. The staff is also lovely, fully recommended.

This bar is really cool. Its got a great vibe to it, lots of space, a reasonable and well stocked bar and friendly staff. It's got 2 separate rooms and lots of cool, quirky features. It's a fun place to be.

As a real ale lover I frequently visit this paradise!Their beer is excellently kept - I have entered the bar 5 minutes after opening and the ale was perfect , unlike some taverns where the first pint is frequently tepid!! VOLDEN is their mainstay. If you fancy a little pub-crawl in the area the 'new' - Small Beer is worth a visit but I found the ale in the adjoining Queens poor. Maynards is only a short walk away and is also worth a visit.

Called in here for a pint on Christmas Eve - what a horrendous experience! Is it meant to be a bar or a crèche for drunken parents and unruly children? We did order our pints but left most of them and went somewhere else.

I had my 40th Party at Earl Haig Hall. They were friendly, flexible and helpful at every stage. The room has a lovely feel about it and was easy to decorate. The whole was easy and great fun, no complaints at all. I'm tempted to have another party asap.

I'd known of the Earl Haig Hall since after it shortly opened a few years ago. It's always been a good draw for entertainment and a brill place to go for a pint and good food. My wife and I were looking for a Wedding drinks venue earlier this year, and she suggested we give them a try, so I booked in and started planning. Marie and the rest of the staff were fantastic. Great communication, really friendly, and the end result was a truly memorable evening. The buffet provided received all-round praise from the guests, and the fairy-light decorated hall provided a wonderful and cosy space for the night. We couldn't have asked for more. If you're looking for an alternate venue full of character and fun, we can both highly recommend it and cannot thank the Earl Haig staff enough.Whoop whoop!

I generally visit this ale-house once a week; the main draw for me is the consistently excellent ale available ! There is a large patio outside - not visible from the main road - the furniture is multivarious but the atmosphere is one of bonhomie!! It is next door to the Queens so you can have a double session!! Well worth a visit.

Its's a local pub in my area and I absolutely love it here. Have celebrated a couple of birthdays here and had a wonderful time, every time. Its one of those places where if its the middle of winter and you want a glass of red and a cosy corner then it does the job, equally, if its summer (summer, summer) time and you fancy a cider in a sunny beer garden it works! Food is always good and reasonably priced every time i've been in, never have to wait long either which is always a plus when you're hungover and waiting for a roast dinner. Great pub.

On the two occasions I came here with friends dj's were playing music. Some people were up dancing.Towards 10 o'clock or so tables where pulled aside by the staff so that people could dance easier.Soon many people danced. Men, Women. Together and on their own.Around 12 o'clock the bar stopped serving. the music stopped playing and the public were asked to leave. No pretension. No threat. No unfair expense.Just a welcoming place.I will be going again.

I recently discovered Earl Haig Hall, not too far a journey from where I live...I've visited a few times, all for different reasons (comedy night, meal + quiz night, private function and a boozy night with friends) and each time thoroughly enjoyed myself. Love the relaxed retro legion vibe, the tunes, the grub, staff etc. The side room is huge for an event too....Always lovely to discover a new place..we didn't even mind coming last in the quiz as we had such a laugh.

My fiancée and I enjoyed an evening at the Earl Haig recently to celebrate our engagement. We reserved a table (free of charge) and worked out way through their selection of real ale, craft beer and wine (without any sharp intakes of breathe at the prices). We also had some bar snacks and enjoyed the music and convivial atmosphere. Plus, the barman was the bloke from the Snickers advert ("you're always a diva when you're hungry"). What's not to like?

I had heard about this place from many people who raved about the Sunday roast and the child friendly atmosphere. Maybe I was not in the best of moods as at kickoff time for the Arsenal game my 3 year old said "daddy I want to go for coffee" so who could say no to that. We traipsed into Crouch End in the cold and walked in to a full pub (think there was a wedding on today) and found some very comfy seats.. I was hopeful to de thaw with a good latte (hell you can get a decent one at a weather spoons) and maybe a child friendly hot drink (a hot chocolate or a cup of warm milk)... When I walk up to the bar, the staff seemed flummoxed when I asked for a latte.. Awkward cough and silence before informing me they only did filter coffee...ok I though I guess I can deal with that..how bout a hot chocolate or even a hot milk? Another awkward silence and cough ...you'd think I'd asked for absinthe or something... So much for a child friendly place...What a shame as it does look very cool inside but can't say I'm in any rush to go back...

This place is so much at the whim of whoever happens to be in charge on the day. On many occasions I'd give it a 5, but others a 1 star review so I have to go with an average - which seems a bit unfair. It is SO crouch end, so studied, so bearded, and it deserves to do really well. On a good day, the food is good. On a bad (busy) day it is average and the wait is far too long. The price for the same order varies widely depending on the numeracy of the staff. None of which I really mind as I basically wish this place well - I like it and I want it to work. But the goodwill won't be indefinite - so, guys, sort out your consistency and your standards, your pricing and your overall offering (what do you want to be and where do you fit in to the myriad other CE options?) and we will continue to be loyal and happy customers.

I booked the Earl Haig function room for my 40th birthday party on Saturday night, for a ceilidh band and a buffet. I mainly dealt with the staff via email and they were really clear and accommodating right from the offset of the booking and made everything so simple - answering all my random questions about candles and bar staff. The room holds around 100 people with room for some sitting and some dancing and I think it looked lovely with it's fairy lights and shabby chic vibe, there was a great atmosphere and so many people said what a fab venue it was and how cool / pretty / quirky / Crouch End it was. I was able to get in a bit early to add some decorations of my own.The bar was run so smoothly, Tom on the bar was so calm and reassuring when I was nervously waiting for guests to arrive and wonderful to all my guests. I heard lots of compliments about the excellent beer, served at the correct temperature! People do need to get draft beer from the main bar, but this worked out fine. The buffet food was really delicious, especially the scotch eggs, I have I have no idea how the chef got 100 eggs all with lovely soft yolks, but they went down a treat - it all did, there was nothing left at the end of the night. Perfect party fodder, lots of happy dancers!I literally did have the best birthday ever. I would highly recommend the venue for a fun, laid back function.

Investigated this former British Legion hall around Sunday lunchtime and loved that they had preserved the interior. It felt quirky and old school, lots of look at. The beer and cider selection is impressive and modern. A craft market was going on in the adjoining function hall and there's a beer garden on the side which has been playfully painted with toucans and flowers. We didn't eat but there were plenty of people there for Sunday lunch, thought it looked a bit pricey. A great place for a pint and people watching.

We came to the Earl Haig Hall yesterday for a Sunday roast and I was really excited to visit the place: it looked so different.TO be fair it IS different and quirky, there is a friendly - family oriented vibe, and the place is definitely ok for a pint, but the food was so poor...We were 8 people and it took almost a houd before we got served our Sunday roast. Evrybody had either chicken or lamb, which came with an extremely stall Yorkshire pudding, few potatoes and kale and stone cold carrots. The portions are really small indeed and way tooo pricey for what was offered to us.When my husband and me went home, we had to stop to have a snack, because we still felt rerally hungry. On the brighter side, beer was really good.

Decor of the restaurant / pub is definitely different! The style is certainly on point for the working man club style! Very fashionable for London for sure. The food was poor, although not expensive (by London standards) but for £14 I still expected the quality to be better than a warmed up school dinner. The staff were friendly and tried hard but it felt like they could have used another body to help serve the food and one more in the kitchen to help prepare the meals, as we had a 30 minute difference in the first person being served food to the last person on the table.Good for a drink, but for food... no thank you.

The venue had been hired for a private function and we were all due to have a Sunday roast dinner. Everyone was looking forward to it. What a joke when the shambles begun!!I felt sorry for the lads setting up as they clearly couldn't do anything about how poor everything was. They tried to help but were just overwhelmed. The food was put out 20 minutes before the plates arrived. For 60+ guests there was 2 small tubs of roast potatoes which were stone cold, some kale which was stone cold, some carrots which were stone cold, 2 tiny jugs of cold watered down gravy, some cold Yorkshire puddings and some chicken and lamb. Crazy thing is, in the main room next door everyone else's food seemed to be warm so they can do it. After the first 15 people had helped themselves to potatoes they had gone. then the veg went soon after. The lamb was severely undercooked in the middle. The carving knives were blunt and we had to take it in turns holding the rickety table steady while some carved (hacked) the meat. There were 3 cups put of for teas etc. Someone asked for milk and one of the lads had to run to the shop. The hot water storage heater had not been switched on and the coffee provided was for a filter but no filter was provided until later on. I asked for more cups as more than 3 of the 60 guests wanted a cup of tea. I was given 4 more.It was so badly done that it was funny in a way and although the food was utter c__p everyone had a laugh about it. They are obviously not set up to cope with big parties but if that is the case don't take bookings. Unfortunately it was my brother who booked it and if I was him I certainly would not have paid a penny for 60 plates of freezing cold potatoes and veg and undercooked lamb. One of the lads was very attentive making sure there was enough wine on the table so fair play to him, a lot of people would have just given up but he stuck at it.Some people say the venue is quirky, retro and unique, where I come from (Yorkshire), a freezing cold function room with no real lighting (Christmas tree fairy lights only), bare brick walls, ripped wallpaper and no ceilings is called a dump or a garage. If you want a laugh go here, if you want to have a function and expect warm food, don't!!!

What a wonderful venue. A former social club converted to a pub, located off the main drag but close to the centre of Crouch End and Ally Pally. We visited from out of town for Sunday lunch. The roast dinner was fantastic and a decent portion. The downside was there was not really a starter, desert or much choice to the beef or lamb but to be honest we did not want anything else. The beer was excellent, several ales available and all seemed to be local ales. I loved the hopster, and the rye beer was also first class. The dinner was about £15 and the beer £4 which I found a bit steep but as I say, we were from out of town. The other things to add, were the hip 60’s background music and the market operating in the adjacent room which enhanced the overall experience. So, well worth a visit, just try and get someone else to pay!http://earlhaighall.com/drink/

Unlike anywhere else I've been. The Earl Haig is like stepping back in time - in a cool, quirky way. The retro surroundings are definitely worth a visit but this place is a must for the delicious, home cooked food. Choosing the redemption burger was the perfect choice - tasty, juicy meat blended with a yummy selection of onion chutney & tomato relish. To finish, skin-on chips - a rare find in North London these days. Don't be fooled by the modest exterior, this place is one of Crouch End's hidden treasures.

I came here for a Sunday roast on the recommendation of one of my friends - but the roast was probably the worst I've had since I was at school! We both had roast lamb which was fatty, tough and rather tasteless. Extremely disappointing and I won't be visiting again. The outside area at the back is quite pleasant.

A rare offering as chippies disappear in the city. This was in North London. Anyway, very comforting but something tasted funny, not sure if it was the sauce of chips but it got masked away when you ate it together.
