Dunn's Bakery in Haringey

After hearing glowing reviews about Dunns, I was excited to try it out today. Despite the shop being bustling, it seemed adequately staffed. However, my excitement turned to disappointment when, after waiting patiently in line for 5 minutes, I was twice bypassed by other customers. First, the lady who called for the next customer served someone behind me (after making eye contact with me), and then it happened again with a tall male wearing a hat. It felt deliberate, as if we were invisible. When I raised this issue with another apologetic staff member, the tall male muttered something under his breath. Overall, it was a disheartening experience reminiscent of the discrimination prevalent in the 80s.

Traditional bakery, baking on the premises. Supplies local shops including one of the supermarkets too! Does everything associated with baking. From cookies to wedding cakes. And lots of kinds of excellent bread.

On the basis of their bread alone, I can’t really recommend Dunn’s. I’ve bought a few loaves before in their local resellers and not been overly impressed, so today paid £4.75 for a large sourdough direct. Bland taste and mediocre texture, nothing like as good as my usual Dusty Knuckle at £4.40. Okay, the Crouch End rents are higher but it seems Dunn’s needs to up its game and stop living on its reputation..

Dunns in Crouch End is simply the best in all respects. My recent experience was a lovely birthday cake they baked for me at short notice with order placed on Dec 31st and delivered on Jan 02. The cake was deliciously looking and with just the right sweetness. Thank you especially to Natalia who was diligent in making sure she got my order correctly.

Just drove past the bakery and an older female worker pushing around 6 stacked DUNN’S crates randomly across the busy road, not at the pedestrian crossing 5m down the road, starts banging on my back window as I drove past. Some basic Highway Code, safety training and common courtesy to wouldn’t go amiss, especially when the DUNN’S logo is emblazoned across the crates.

Best bread in the whole of London!

My first mince pie of the Season - freshly purchased this morning. My personal choice is to pop it in the microwave for 10 or 15 seconds. Now - there are mince pies and there are Dunn’s mince pies! The pastry is perfect and is packed with delicious mincemeat full of dried fruit and not loaded with sugar. Happy Christmas Dunn’s.

We had chosen for the cake theme to be balloons and multicolored and that was the result. White mostly ( a lot of white ) with 4 balloons in different colours. The result was a bit disappointing because we expected it to be multicolored like playful and age appropriate for a kids bday party however it was really fresh. I wouldn't choose it again but just for how it looked not for the taste or freshness.

I purchased a birthday cake for my partner and it was absolutely wonderful. The care and attention and the artistry was visibly stunning. A big thank you to Sandra and the team for their fantastic customer service. Would highly recommend

I have previously ordered birthday cakes from Dunn’s without issue. However, recently I ordered a red velvet birthday cake with buttercream for my kid’s birthday which was an absolute disaster. I collected the cake took it home - the cake looked fine. Prior to the party at home, I took another peek at the cake and to my surprise the cake which was still in its box had a crack around the chocolate disc on top of the cake! Later when we took the lid off the cake box to reveal the cake to the party guests the cake sponge had literally split apart from the center! We have purchased many cakes over the years and never have we seen anything like this. Not to mention it ruined the birthday kid’s day. I tried to cut a slice of the cake but it just crumbled - you couldn’t even cut a proper slice. The kids who usually love sweet deserts complained the cake was just too sweet to eat. I raised the issue with Dunn’s bakery Crouchend and received a disappointing message to say they will investigate internally. I have heard nothing further - no explanation or resolution - very disappointing experience. Poor quality cake and service. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since the above issue, I wanted to express my appreciation for the professional manner in which Dunn's has addressed the recent issue. I am pleased to acknowledge they have looked into the matter and resolved it in a manner that reflects a high level of professionalism.

Felt so good to step in a bit of London history. It’s so impressive how they’ve stood the test of time AND can provide such a broad range of goods at such low prices.

An amazing place with wide range of pastries and bread. I loved the Bath Bun and Black Olive Bread. The price is reasonable and the staff are friendly despite being super busy on Saturday mornings. I highly recommend here if you’re around Crouch End.

A great selection of freshly baked goods and very reasonably priced. Our family’s favourites are ; seeded bagels 🥯, almond croissants 🥐 and Bath buns. Highly recommended.

I loved Dunn's when I grew up in Crouch End in the 50s and 60s before moving to Canada. We are having a family reunion in London next year and we have Dunn's on our itinerary to enjoy a jam doughnut in honour of Mum and Dad. The bakery has been around so long and I'd love to look at the memorabilia that must have been collected over the years. A truly iconic bakery.

Possibly the best sausage roll I’ve ever had. Breakfast rolls are decent! Salmon bagel was great too. Friendly and efficient service.

This is a legend. It is london's best kept secret Despite the queue, we got done in 5mins Also, we had few dietary restrictions, so the staff quickly printed out ingredient and nutritional information for us to decide The prices don't make a hole in the pocket and the staff goes out of their way to help 😊 Along with a huge variety and best tasting bakery goods in london.

Honestly the best latte I've had in my entire life no joke. The almond croissant is also to die for. Sad that there isn't one on closer to me on Green Lanes as well (hint hint maybe open more stores?) 😂

I really like the story behind this bakery and huge respect to how far they have come with their hard work. I was in the area today and surprisingly walked by this little sweet gem. After I have been following them for so long on Instagram, I just couldn't ignore but had to pay them a visit. They have huge range of collections of savoury and baked sweet goods. Although everything is definitely top notch stuff, the customer service is really poor and needs improvement. I was browsing through their counter and one member of staff (tall guy and ginger beard with a cowboy hat) just wouldn't leave me alone. Am I that beautiful or something that you have to hover around me to which ever side of the counter I walk🙄. Their is so much to choose from, and plenty of other customers to serve so let me have a good look around first! Felt really rushed in my experience, will be visiting again but not this branch! Like seriously

Best bakery for miles. The sausage rolls in particular are incredible and an absolute bargain.

The best bread I’ve found in the UK, fantastic cinnamon buns, and truly good customer service. I asked if a particular bread was vegan and the server printed out a list of ingredients for me so I could be certain of what I was getting. Above and beyond!

Popular artisan bakery with a 200 year history. All of their produce is baked on the premises and are second to none. Now have a branch on Muswell Hill Broadway.

They were unable to make a ham and cheese bun. One of them simplest sandwiches you could ever ask for. Very disappointing. There was a time that Dunn's would make you a sandwich from scratch, after moving away from that very convenient customer service I thought they would at least be able to simply add a slice of cheese to one of their existing pre-made buns, especially given the customer to staff ratio at the time of day I went in. I might as well just go to any old bakery now that Dunn's is no longer special.

Dunns bakery is still, THE BEST bakery/Patisserie I have ever seen except for Patisserie Valerie when the original shop was still open in Soho. Dunns is 200 years old this year..200!!! If you needed a recommendation I think that speaks for itself..fresh and local flours and ingredients when possible and GORGEOUS breads of every kind. I cannot praise this place enough..New one just opened in Muswell hill I believe. Still as good as ever!

First visit today despite often seeing their cute little blue van on the road and living in the area for over 20 years. What a delight! Delicious tiramisu cake and forest fruit cheesecake. Generous portions at great prices.definitely will be back soon at the cost of my waistline.

The desserts look fancy and the variety is dazzling. But the taste is very very poor. I bought a few different items but enjoyed absolutely nothing of the offerings here. I was extremely disappointed and threw most of the things I bought in the bin. I give two stars instead of one because the staff were nice and the prices are quite low. I don't like to waste food though so I won't be visiting again.

What's going on with dunns bakery 🤔 they used to bake a lovely Danish pastry - DID they change the baker? Really nasty Danish I bought yesterday I was going to bring it back but instead I give it to the dog - it was tasteless - no icing, soft - won't be buying from dunns again till they change the baker.

Bought our first cake from Dunn’s for our daughter 21st birthday. We had over 60 guest and everyone was complimenting the cake was so nice. It was worth every penny we paid and will never go anywhere else from now. Thank you for the prompt delivery of the cake also. I don’t want the cake to finish it’s that good.

very disappointed in the birthday cake that was made for me. I gave them a picture to copy to make the cake they agreed all the details but the cake did not reflect the picture and was finished terribly and they did not give me a refund or discount even though I complained the last said the cake looked fine to her but its so ashamed that I will need to present this cake at my husbands 40th birthday party tomorrow

Quite simply a local institution

This bakery is a treasure. Pastel de natas are back in their full splendor. The chef somehow manages to make them better than in Lisbon, which is quite a feat. Dunns is an integral part of what makes living in Crouch End into such a beautiful experience. It's their amazing people, bread and pastries that brings a smile on so many faces every day. It must be a true challenge to keep up this kind of quality of product and service at relatively low prices. Yet, this place becomes a routine visit and deviations in quality can be easily spotted. If it takes a little price increase to maintain this kind of experience, I'm quite sure very few would mind.

Very good and fresh bakery produce. My only criticism is the queuing system is not good. You could be forgiven for not knowing where it starts and ends. Please can you improve it or make it better. Every time I come in it’s incredible confusing. I have had staff and customers tell me that someone was before me. It’s not a nice experience not knowing how it all works. As I mentioned the food is delicious and I recently bought two birthday cakes. See photos.

Best bakery in London. My grandfather used to come here in the 80's & 90's whilst working at Hornsey Town Hall. I'm fortunate enough to now live locally and pop in often. Some of our family favourites... Jam donuts Sausage roll Strawberry and fresh cream cake White tin loaf and the sourdough is awesome! The staff are pleasant considering the continuous flow of customers - thank you, may Dunns continue to thrive.

I went today for the first time. I chose a chicken and avocado bagel based on the advice of a member of staff as I said I cannot have milk. She assured me it didn't have any milk. Half way through eating the bagel I began to feel very sick. I realised it had pesto in the bagel and pesto usually contains milk. I returned to the shop to double check with another colleague if in fact the bagel had milk in it. After disappearing for 5 mins at the back of the bakery, she returned to confirm that the bagel does in fact have milk in it!! Although I feel very poorly, thank goodness I have an intolerance and not a serious allergy as this could have had a very different outcome. Allergen information should be readily available to all staff and if they are unsure they should check instead of guessing or giving out incorrect information which could have very serious consequences for some. I was offered a refund and an apology but really more care should be taken to ensure this doesn't ever happen. More staff training needed and allergen info should be taken very serious! I wont be returning.

My partner got lovely vegan chocolate cake made for my 40th birthday. The cake was amazing and very yummy. It was moist and very tasty. Would recommend.

The chocolate (plus extra custard filling) croissant is a steal for £1.8 and so big! Endless range of pastries and fast service too

Dreadful 'hot' sausage roll (it was luke warm and it was burnt) The hot steak slice I ordered was cold and was in fact chicken. Hot chocolate was tepid and latte was freezing cold and was more milk than coffee. All ended up in the bin ... Used to be so good here but I wont bother again - staff couldn't give a damn. Shame as I have lived in Crouch End for 35 years an this use to be the 'go to' place.. now its the 'run from' place for me.

Yesterday I walked past someone near the new town hall flats, overhead one of the contractors describe Dunns as one of the best bakeries in the world... Wow, what an accolade... I still remember the days where my parents would order my birthday cake from here, delicious fresh cream gateau... A young girl full of surprise and excitement, still feel excited everytime I step foot in there. Lovely and friendly staff, service with a smile... Fresh bakes and the best homemade sausage rolls. Can't go wrong really... Hard to believe Dunns is 200 years old and still growing strong...proud to have it in Crouch End and Muswell Hill. Only slight downside is, I miss the custom made filled rolls. Not a fan of the pre-made ones. I'm looking forwards to your famous festive deep filled mince pies, yum yum 😋👌

Bought a chicken and chorizo cornish pasty tgey had different flavours and it tastes of strong cheese and made me feel sick . Had to throw it away. A waist of my money and 3.50

Bought some sandwiches and a tart in there. Queue system was a bit chaotic. Had recently arrived from Scotland and the server flat refused to take Scottish notes which is all I had. Said something about not being able to test them although didn't see them testing anyone elses money. I was embarrassed in front of my friends at this discriminatory behaviour and was pressured by the server to pay by card as I didn't want my friends to pay. All in all a very uncomfortable and unnecessary experience. First time I had experienced this discrimination and it was very humiliating.

Dunns made my wedding cake. They delivered the cake on time and there was no hassle. The lead up to the wedding day they remained in contact about what we wanted and made changes at the last minute. The cake was beautiful. Everyone said how nice the cake was. We had lemon, chocolate and Victoria sponge. On another side note Dunns do the most amazing sausage rolls, egg mayo rolls and blueberry cheese cake.

Dunn’s is an an amazing bakery and certainly worth visiting if your in the area. Everything they make is really good quality and very tasty. I worked in Crouch End for 7 years and can honesty say it was one of the best places to get lunch! They will make you fresh sandwiches along with plenty of fresh pre-made ones to choose from. Their homemade ice cream is fab too.

My daughter got a blueberry cheesecake for me today. We all loved dunns cheese cake. I've been buying lots of different things to eat since my children were little, now age 46 and 50. .Its been quite a long time since we bought a whole cheese cake. Unfortunately it just doesn't taste the same like it used to. The cheesecake used to be really light and fluffy but the one we bought today was quite heavy and not as nice. . 😒😒

Their ice cream is very tasty, nice hard creamy consistency, huge portions and very cheap compared to nearby places. Highly recommended for some quick coolness. The flavours are nothing special, but still various available. Also there was no queue, while at the other place there was an uncomfortable crowd waiting in a long queue.

The spinach & cheddar pasty and the ham & watercress roll are two of my favourites.

I’m a regular customer almost daily & wow what a great value for money! However staff Regularly unwelcoming cold and make you feel a little uncomfortable And like they don’t want you there. Bad attitude and act irritated, I’d give 5stars otherwise.

Wholemeal loaf with oat flakes at our fun away day tasted wonderful- held its shape cuts thin slices easily, wonderful taste blend of moist and crunchy crust, toasted next day -healthy & delicious

Having walked in today at around 11am 5 staff behind the counter. No acknowledgement of me walking in as I asked a question all 5 staff still continued to talk amongst each other and laugh. I was so shocked never seen such poor service. I walked straight back out and lady waved at me to acknowledge me but it was to late. Really unprofessional!

My mother picked up two pastries from this place. They really weren’t good at all. We really can’t understand how they got to such a high rating on Google maps. Only reason I’m not putting 1 star is that I think it could still have been even worse.

The food here is really nice and the staff are great. My only complaint is that it can take a ridiculously long time to get served in the morning, even when there are loads of staff and only one or two customers. That being said, it's worth the wait.

Wow. Working in the area just for the day and we wanted a morning coffee and cake. By luck we came across Dunn’s and very happy we did. Two cappuccino’s and two Almond croissants. The coffee was smooth and great tasting (not bitter at all) and the croissants were not only massive but delicious. £8 total which is standard I guess but the quality was high. Five stars

Last minute cake shopping for a birthday cake. Strawberry sponge, looked beautiful but very ordinary. Strawberry glazed topping was quite inedible, sponge was dry. I usually bake a lot but this was last minute. For £19.50 is was greatly disappointing. Looked beautiful though! Shame really as the person I bought it for visited the same site on the morning of the same day, for a bacon roll and he said the bread was not very fresh. He did expect a fresh bap / roll with his bacon at 8am.

This is still the very, very best bakers in North London. Everything's wonderfully fresh and the range of breads, cakes, sandwiches and pastries is just awesome. The shop is always fully staffed and they are all so helpful - you cannot fail to walk away fully satisfied and usually possessed of a few more things than you went there to buy! I have never regretted a single purchase. 5 stars for sure!

Yesterday I was going around Haringey green lanes to look for a cake as it was my sons birthday The 3 or so bakery’s cakes looked really naff I got back in my car and did the shortish Journey to Crouch End and spot on I bought a lovely looking tiramisu It tasted absolutely amazing 10 stars for you Dunns I think it’s safe to say it will definitely get my custom next time at the time after that at the time after

Delicious decorated birthday cake baked and delivered to my birthday venue at the shortest of notices. A lovely surprise at my birthday meal. Delighted to learn it came from Dunn's Bakery which was my favourite bakery when I lived in the area many years ago. Recommend unreservedly.

The best bakery ever, could not recommend enough. Parmarino sourdough is out of this world!

Dunn’s just continues to improve - year on year. This month we purchased a slab of their Christmas Cake and we all decided that it is better than ever. It probably works out about £3 for a very generous portion and is excellent value because it is divine. Their mince pies are also superb. Neither are like the sickly sweet, mass produced brands - these are the real deal. Thank you to the Master Bakers at Dunn’s and a very happy New Year to all the staff.

Thanks for the free muffin today, for your 200th birthday. It was lovely- light and moist, rather than dry dense and crumbly, as muffins often are. I love your pasties (especially the cornish) and will be visiting many times more. *meant to be for muswell hill, but still applies!

I went into the bakery store yesterday to buy a blackcurrant and almond lattice tart, my favourite Dunns product by far. I was so disappointed to find that it had been discontinued and replaced with a cherry and almond lattice tart. Ok I thought, ill give the new product a try. Unfortunately it is no where near as delicious as the blackcurrant version. Cherries just don't have that depth of taste. Please bring back the blackcurrant version, or sell both varieties??

Had a great selection of baked goods. Was a little chaotic when trying to order through the covid screens and masks. Very old school style and traditional.

I went there to buy food for a picnic and it was a really good surprise. There was a lot of choice, sandwiches, quiches, pies and salad. For sweets they have a large choice of cakes and pastries (a lot of different donuts). We picked many things, everything was fresh, tasty and good valut for price. On the top for that the team there was nice and helpful. Unfortunately this place is far away from where we live but we will come back for sure if we are in the area.

As a Crouch end local I do pop in at least once a week. Friendly staff, old fashion feel, and yummy cakes and savoury pastries. Whats not to love?
