Portofino Restaurant in Wirral

Visiting the area and this looked like a geniune italian ristorante. Boy were we disaapointed. Reheated supermarket food at best with a splash of additive to try to throw you off. The pizza base was,shop bought,under cooked and served on a wooden board which when removed from the table left an unpleasant greasy residue behind. The other dish was average at best. Staff were pleasant enough.

Really tasty food but such small portions of pasta. Very nice staff. Restaurant was bitterly cold. Had to eat with our coats on.

I first visited Portofino about 6 years ago. At the time I was very impressed but time has not been kind to the place. Poor service, a tedious menu and a generally underwhelming experience. Such a pity, it used to be good. It also must be the only Italian restaurant I know that offers one veggie pasta dish. It’s 2024, get with the project

Arrived on my motorbike after riding about and wondering where to go on the lovely sunny, lsdt Sunday. Atmosphere and food great. Stayed outside watching the world go by, on my own and ended up leaving three and a half hours later! Quicker service to order a drink would have been appreciated when I first arrived. Will.definitely go back xx Lynn, Oxton, Wirral.

Pre theater food and drinks. I had the lamb shank and was not disappointed. Washed down with ice cold San Miguel. Attentive staff lovely start to a great night. Maybe look at a pre theater menu? Special menu? Garry

Great Italian restaurant in New Brighton. Went with family to celebrate a birthday. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was superb and arrived at the table hot. All in all, a great place for a great Italian meal.

I have to say had many Italian meals in UK, I personally rate this one top of the list , meal for 5 Saturday gone , food excellent, service top notch , my personal thanks to Enzo who looked after us throughout the evening will be back sooner than later

Excellent customer service which included a move of table on a busy Saturdsy evening, due to my need for a booth seat (I'm a disabled man at the moment). Not too much trouble for the excellent staff. The food we had was very enjoyable and tasty and arrived quickly despite the busy Saturday evening.

First time here food nice. Though not much on the plate lovely inside staff let it down not attentive no smile on their faces

Me and friend went to New Brighton for a few hours and decided to eat here. Loads of outdoor seating which was perfect due to the warm weather. We both chose from the lunch menu which was a starter and main for just under £14. There was a good choice in the menu and the food was delicious we both really enjoyed what we had and all plates were empty. The staff are lovely, friendly and great service. The inside looks amazing as well. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant and we will both be visiting again.

Rude staff and told pre theatre meal is till 7 , doesn’t state that and the man was rude had to argue , was very quiet and lost our business what an awful place never again. The lunch menu 12 till 15.00 advertised , false advertising in the pre theatre . Close the place down

Advertised a "pre-theatre" menu. However when asked about it the waiter was very rude and argued that it was only "before 7pm" when our show started at 930pm. There were no specified times shown on the menu outside. The waiter then snatched the menus off us, we then proceeded to leave. If you can't deliver what you advertise you don't deserve custom.

Used to love it here now it is under new management and food and atmosphere is totally different. Food was acceptable but waiter was very rude and inappropriate with things he was saying I won't be returning

Just eaten lunch here it was delicious, pleased I crossed over from the fast food places opposite. Not cheap - although I had wine and coffee which increased my overall spend. Definitely worth it.

What a gem. Excellent meal in all aspects.. friendly staff, nice beer excellent starter and superb pizzas, best my wife has ever had, for me second best ever but blooming close. Look forward to a second meal in three days there as it was so good.

Plenty of outdoor seating in the sun, nice interior decor. Great cocktail list. Pizza, pasta and Al A Carte menu. Amazing parmo and everything is freshly prepared. Really enjoyed it, will be back regularly.

Great flavours and good service

Went here last Sunday with my nephew after we went to watch Bob marley omg the food was amazing staff couldn't do enough even got a rose of a waiter/manager. We had meatballs an cheese garlic bread for starters and risotto with chicken garlic an mushroom an a margarita pizza couldn't fault any of it. Surprisingly it was empty by the time we got r starters im very surprised it wasn't packed for the quality of the food

Cheerful, busy place which offers pre- theatre dining. The service was very good and the food lovely.

Awful! First of all its Turkish not italian. We had pizzas, that wasn't pizza, you get better for 50p in lidl. Whatever it was it was raw, my son got instant tummy ache. Looked like a tortilla wrap with a bit of cheese and tomatoe over it. Staff was rude! My kids wouldn't even eat the ice cream. I left the whole of my 'pizza' and they didn't even take it off the bill. Explains why it was empty. NEVER AGAIN!

Lunch in Portofino today was the most enjoyable restaurant meal I’ve had in a long time. I ordered Gamberi in Padella for a starter, and the first taste brought me one of those wow moments of intense flavour that you remember. The main course of Ravioli Formagio was delicious too, complemented by a glass of Trebbiano Arché. The waiter and waitress were friendly and welcoming, which adds to the enjoyment of any restaurant meal.

The food was lovely, well prepared, presented and hot. The staff were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was nice and the prices were reasonable. We were a large group and despite all our meals taking a while to arrive it all came out at the same time for us all to eat together. I would definitely visit again.

Where do I begin, it was my son's 16th birthday celebration and it turned out to be the same night he had an awards ceremony for school, being held at The Floral Pavilion. We needed somewhere local to book a meal afterwards. A few days prior l, we was having new blinds fitted by Prestige Blinds and he overheard my conversation and recommended Portofino l, New Brighton. Well, aren't we ever so grateful he did... I rang to make a reservation and from start to finish they couldn't do more to help us make Ethan's birthday so very extra special. Earlier in the day of our booking, I dropped by with cake, balloons etc and the young gentleman who greeted me said, we shall make it extra special and they did just that. I can't see anywhere to attach pictures so I will tag the photos to their FB page... Food 5/5 🌟 Service 5/5🌟 Atmosphere 5/5🌟 Affordability 5/5🌟 Thoughts of return 💯 Basically full marks + on everything I absolutely loved and appreciated all members of staff for a truly perfect evening with friends, family and friends that have become family

Fantastic meal, from start to finish. Nicest Lasagna wife has had in a long long time, I had the Beef Stroganoff which was just delicious!! Will definitely be returning here. SUPERB!!

After a walk with friends along the promenade, we stopped at Portofino for a late lunch. I had a three course meal. I started with Polpetti Arrabiata, followed by Pollo Milanese, and finished with Chocolate Cake and Strawberry Ice Cream. My friends and I agreed this was a very pleasant lunch. Maybe we will be back another day.

Excellent food and customer service

Went there at 6pm on a Saturday As usual, the environment was great. Meatball starter was excellent but the normally outstanding Lasagne did not taste as good as normal and was somewhat bland. It was still enjoyable, but not up to the usual standard we have become accustomed to at Portafino.

Had set menu lunch - good offer, with portions understandably slightly smaller. Shortage of key Italian ingredient - mozarella for starter not available!! Had to ask for bread that was listed as part of starter. Added dessert - almost certain that the cheesecake came from Morrisons, or M&S at the best.

Good food, I particularly enjoyed their fusili alla chorizo dish. However the staff were quite slow.

Cola was flat and out of a bottle. But food was delicious. Unfortunately nothing was fresh but the pizza doe.

Staff were lovely, the place looks great. The food however... The pizza base was insubstantial and fluffy. Reminded me of the ones you get from supermarkets. The cannelloni filling was sour, and tasted very unseasoned, apart from salt. There was a lot of that everywhere. Presentation of the food is good, but, extremely cheap ingredients. A shame.

Worst place turn up to find no drinks no shops nearby to buy drinks open fathers day meal ruined. Only alcohol joke!!!!!!

Avoid at all costs! It used to be a really nice, Italian restaurant with Italian waiting staff. Now? The food is bland, waiting staff unable to take a simple order. On top of it they add drinks to the bill you have never had. Shame and we won't be coming back, even though we were regulars for years!

The restaurant is located in a good spot and has pretty decor but we waited 40 minutes to order and a further hour for the food to arrive. The restaurant wasn't busy. The pizzas we had were also not very good

Amazing quality food and service!! We had the fish shared starter and then I had chicken milanese, other people in the group had lasagne, spag bol, pizza and all said was delicious! We'll definitely be back

Have been going to Portofino for years but it appears to have changed hands now. For the better I feel. Staff are very attentive. Lovely surroundings and the food was of a very high quality at acceptable prices. Can't fault the place one bit. So if you're looking for a great place to eat whilst visiting New Brighton. I'd definitely say give this place a shot. You can't go wrong.

The pizza and bruschetta were good, but I've had better of both. The dough didn't convince me and wasn't crispy enough but the topping was great. The service was ok. The restaurant is well located and nicely furnished.

We love the atmosphere in this restaurant, it's perfect for a pre-show meal as the service is excellent and there's plenty of choice on the menu but the specials really are special. My husband had lasagne with a side order of chips and I chose the steak stroganoff. We both chose the special gelato dessert which was honestly the best we've ever tasted. Also, lovely drinks and all together good value. We will definitely return and would highly recommend this gem to anyone.

Fantastico! As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by Enzo and immediately made me feel like I was around family. The peppers with the starters were so close to how my Nonna makes them! And the starter and dessert were heavenly. I took Enzos recommendations of his family recipe gelato from Sicilia. Simply delicious. The next time I'm in the area I'll be here again

The manager did. Good service. But waiters need training , food took long than expected ? ... The portion of carbonada ? It's not very good Comparing to other Italian restaurants.... Was not very busy also... I do not understand. Why service takes so long.... Staff needs training 100%,. To achieve better reports .... O) serve first the lady's, by older O) napkins after starters, we did not have it , we ask but never come O) carbonada, portion was not up to standers O) calamari = it was badly served = frozen looks like , but they was badly, fried??? O) waitress, ( attitude was strange) O) overall was ok. But they have potential to do much better ..... The manager was very friendly , but not the waitresses both of theme was very cold. And they not know the service takes. My view , I will avoid this restaurant, with this two waitresses. yes will go back if the manager is serving us !

Lovely food and friendly staff in a nicely decorated restaurant. Started with the shared antipasto meats. Filling and good quality Main was a Gambas pizza. Full of flavour good quality ingredients. Stuffed at the end!! Good wine list, shame I was driving. Slightly disappointed by how long we waited. Gave ourselves 90 minutes before we had to leave for a show, however, only made it for the second half. Leave yourself plenty of time if going pre show

Very friendly staff. Offered information about new dishes and ingredients to which we tried and most definitely NOT disappointed. ABSOLUTLEY GORGEOUS!!!.Service was very prompt.All food hot and soooo tasty!!! Definately go back.

First things first, Environment was very welcoming into the restaurant. The staff and waiters were very kind and informative about the meals and the ingredients as well as what they recommended and they didn’t not disappoint. No complaints about the food, Everything was made with love. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a classic chilled vibe.

It's a great place for a pre show meal if attending the nearby Floral Pavilion. I'm not a frequent visitor to New Brighton but this is about half a dozen times I've eaten there and am yet to be disappointed

Everything is great about portofino's

I have been here once before and it was lovely so thought I'd go again. We were seated swiftly recommended a wine which when we asked for a 2nd bottle they had no more? We got our starters in good timing however we waited 40minutes for our main we dare not ask for a desert as we had another venue to go to. Will say the food was beautiful though.

Starters very small portions. Steak tasty but just steak and chips, no salad or other veg. Exoensive for what we got

Excellent service from staff genuinely excited about food. The tomato garlic bread was light and tasty making an excellent starter. Seafood linguini was particularly good with a lot of variety. The two desserts for the specials were fantastic with great portion sizes (sticky toffee pudding and a special gelato)

Absolutely spot on here , it's freshly cooked Italian food and I'm happy to have rediscovered it. Penne dish was amazing as was chicken dish and the staff are lovely and attentive. Please try here.

Part of an 80th Birthday party on New Year's Eve, what a great meal, good service on night out. Would recommend for parties and do's. To all of the staff on the night, were brilliant, thank you all. 👍👍 Cheers Rob and Irene
