Portobello in Derby

You get such a warm and friendly greeting from all the staff here, this has surely got to be one of the best places in and around Derby to enjoy one of their fresh salad boxes, sausage rolls, cakes or filled rolls, all at a very reasonable price.

What a pleasure!! Called at 8am to arrange for a batch of sandwiches and cakes to be picked up at 10:30am for a meeting I was holding. The food was AMAZING! The young lady had no problem with the short timeframe with getting everything ready Not only was the service fantastic by even giving me a hand with the box of food to the car it was topped with everyone really enjoying the food. Only a passing visit to Derby but I’ll be back in the future!!

Had a ham and piccalilli roll at £4.25 and 2 sausage rolls at £1.65 each all homemade was ok but at those prices I was a bit disappointed wouldn't go back

A visit to Portobello is a must! Always fresh food and so much variety, the salads are always fresh and tasty. Would 100% recommend the frittatas and salad boxes. And obviously you can't go without taking away one of the beautiful fresh sweet treats, malteser Tiffin being a favourite! Always greeted by lovely friendly staff!

Flew in from Metropolis to try and sort out the troubles in the UK on my way noticed this charming cafe come sanctuary, the sandwiches and coffee were even better than my usual diet of kriptonite, Well got to fly now……regards Kent

I just love this place. There aren’t many places like this in the town centre and it’s just the best place to go for lunch. Everything is made fresh and they nail it every time. I love their mixed salads with fresh roast chicken and the homemade sausage rolls are amazing. Customer service is also super friendly and the ladies do an amazing job. Truly can’t recommend enough and always suggest it to friends. One of my fave places to grab lunch!

Whilst in town popped into Portobello for a couple of their fabulous sausage rolls to enjoy for my lunch. There is always a very warm welcome and greeting from the ever smiling staff here, keep up the great work.

Excellent business lunch prepared on time and exceeded spec. Fresh local ingredients presented in a covid friendly manner. Bread very fresh. Special request fillings (veggie, gluten free etc) labelled. Especially good home made frittata and sausage rolls. Lemon drizzle cake and brownies yummy! Great value and friendly family service.

Salad box, coffee and savory to takeaway from this excellent little gem and the girls still have their wonderful smiles and time to chat to customers. After the upheaval that we have all been through these last few months things are slowly getting better.

All fresh and made to order. Great selection of food incl salad boxes. Rolls are large with various fillings. Would recommend as a good place for lunch.

Great food and great staff. The young lady that served me was very friendly and had a smile as wide as the Haribo child’s. If you want the best sandwiches and salads in Derby, look no further. Portobello? More like More-in-my-bello!

As soon as you walk in the door the staff are so welcoming and bubbly and they always have a smile of their face, it just puts you in a happy place. Choose from one of their lovely sandwiches/salads, you will not be disappointed.

This little gem has some fantastic takeout food, it’s not cheap but you do get what you pay for. The sausage rolls are just mmmh

I have been to Portobello a number of times with colleagues for lunch. There is a regular menu on the blackboard, a sandwich special and a selection of different salads and frittatas, as well as a couple of different tasty treats. You can choose which type of bread you want and whether to add salad or sauces etc so everything is made just how you want it. The food is ALWAYS fresh and tasty. I’ve never had anything from here that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed every bite of. The staff are also great, they are really friendly and helpful and are so passionate about the food they sell. I would absolutely recommend Portobello to anyone looking for a tasty, fresh and top quality lunch, which provides a good quantity for a sensible price. The only downside is that there’s no seating, but there is plenty of lovely green space with benches just across the road.

Visited for the first time today on a recommendation from a work friend and so glad I did... such fresh tasty ingredients are used, the best ciabatta I’ve ever tasted aswell... 2 lovely ladies served us and nothing was too much trouble. Cannot wait to go back and try their famous sausage rolls. I had the roast chicken which may I add is roasted on site so it’s so juicy, succulent and tasty. I cannot wait to come and try some more delights of what I can only describe as Derby’s hidden gem sandwich shop...

I have been frequenting Portabello on a weekly basis over the last 3 months whilst sorting out and decorating my father’s flat. The welcome, friendly service and quality sandwiches are second to none. In fact I told the owner last week that they serve the best sandwiches I have ever tasted. I can not recommend this place highly enough.

As soon as you walk in the door you are met with a smile and a very warm friendly greeting, just what you want. I think some of Derby's other restaurants need to send their staff here to see how to greet customers. Breakfast cob was full of filling and washed down with a cup of coffee all at a very decent price.

I was never a salad person until I went to Portobello! Their salads are delicious and I love going there on my lunch breaks from work. Staff is very friendly also!

Hannah and Susan have recently started catering for our workshops and the food and service can not be faulted. They are very accommodating with allergies and special requests. Portion sizes are big and are great value for money. Hannah and Susan are so lovely and friendly - I would recommend them to anyone!

Super friendly staff, incredibly tasty food and they made my massive sandwich so quickly. Personal fave is the breakfast roll - egg, bacon, avocado & siracha sauce in a ciabatta roll!

Nipped in on my way to the post box, decided not to walk into town as it was raining.

I nipped in at the middle of the day and had a fantastic cob with tea and cake. The Nutella and banana bread cake is amazing and homemade and the visit is made all the more special by the 2 lovely girls working there. 11/10 would go again.

Thank you to Hannah & Susan for the excellent and friendly service and gorgeous canapes for my husbands surprise party! Everyone loved them, not a single one left! I would definitely recommend Portobello! :)

Having gone into this place to get parking change initially! Was really impressed by the standard and quality of the apple and cinnamon cake I purchased. The staff were very welcoming the place clean. Was back in derby today so, returned for my lunch. It was unique and tasty if anyone should pass this place... Please make a point of stopping its well worth a visit.

Right from the two hours Susan and Hannah spent with me a few months before the party when we planned the event I knew I had found the perfect caterers. They are very professional serving superb food efficiently with a smile.

Lovely little deli shop selling goodies galore. Specials board on the wall, limited seating at the bench in the window if you want to eat in. Smile from the staff on entering, quick and efficient service. Breakfast cob was very good, well worth a visit if you want to get a bite to eat.
