Had excellent Sunday lunch. Good value, excellent food, quality local ingredients, very professional but friendly service and lovely surroundings. We will be back.

Booked for my 40th birthday for a family meal. There was 14 of us and pre ordered to make things easier. I was assured when I booked that my mum would be catered for (she has ocd with most foods) and I made sure again before the Saturday that it would be ok for her to have a jacket potato cheese and beans, no salads no seasonings nothing. Got there in plenty of time the girls serving us I can’t fault them, got us drinks and then double checked the pre order that I had written down for them with me. Waited nearly an hour for food but granted all dishes came out together but then there was my mums dish which had to be sent back as the chef had put some kind of green seasoning/garnish on top. Dish came back but because of what was in it before my mum had to check to make sure it had all been taken off and it hadn’t it had just been hidden with more cheese. I took it back and did say to front of house I told you if it wasn’t plain it would get sent back, she not eat this now at all. Was offered to order something else off the menu for her but that is why I ordered jacket potato . my poor mum was then sat there with nothing to eat while we all ate but then i didn't eat much of mine cos i was very angry. My mum got upset and started crying my birthday meal with family was ruined quite frankly The chef said that he wasn’t told even though it was written down and that he thought it looked bland. Was also informed later on that night that the butter that was used had herbs in it. I used to really like eating here but I think it’s gone down hill with the food in the last couple of years and I won’t be eating here again. This also has put my mum back and now doesn’t want to go out again.

Apart from the cherries issues we had a really good meal. The steak night offer for £22 including a beer was good value , good portion and very tasty. The desert description was chocolate mouse and cherries, however the cherries consisted of 2 small glace cherries which was a bit of a con ! We will be returning to try the other menus but will check on details before ordering.

We enjoyed a lovely early evening meal, we hadn't realised it was a special steak menu but the server ( I'm sorry I didn't get your name) was fantasticly knowledgeable so we decided really quickly, I had the Cajun chicken, my partner had the porterhouse along with sides of scampi, onion rings and the blue cheese and peppercorn sauce. Everything was cooked beautifully, the chicken was moist, the steak could have been cut with a butter knife... and the homemade chips were absolutely perfect 👌 if I had to give criticism, I prefer a thicker sauce but we left happy and full after the generous pudding portions. Will definitely return! Staff were fantastic too really attentive and knowledgeable, and seemed like a happy team! 😊

Booked as a birthday treat for my wife. After a long busy hectic week, we were looking forward to a lovely meal and the opportunity to spend some quality time together. The meal was mediocre...... steak was overcooked but was willing to let this go as the rest of the mixed grill was great. Ordered 2 x apple crumble with custard for dessert. Both of the crumbles were cold!!! To their credit, the crumbles (hot) were replaced free of charge which was appreciated. No sooner had we finished dessert and we were presented with the bill which incedently we didn't ask for!! The time was 9 30pm. We were asked if we'd be paying cash or card and literally two minutes later the waiter appeared with the card machine...... nothing like been told to leave !!!!!

Was seated upstairs which was quite chilly!!! Kept jackets on during the meal. No atmosphere or ambience. Had steak which was disappointing compared to previous visits.

We went to Poterhouse by Barlows for the 1st time today to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary & it was fabulous, the filet steak was divine as was the whole meal & all the staff were very friendly & tentative, wonderful all round experience, we will definitely be going back again 😋😋😋🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Had been meaning to visit Barlows for a long time and finally some friends suggested it as a January Pick Me up. We were not disappointed. Perfect steaks in a nice environment with very friendly and attentive staff. Nice and busy confirming people will turn out on a cold and windy mid January evening if the food is worth it....and it was. First visit but it won't be the last!

Twice as good as miller and carter! Better service, great quality food and not nearly as expensive! This place was brilliant, as soon as we entered the building we were greeted and seated! Quality drinks and the steaks are unreal! Don’t waste your money at any other overpriced ‘steakhouse’ just go here you won’t be disappointed! Have the king prawns to start their amazing! Could do with a chocolate desset is my only gripe. Apart from that…5 stars all around.

Best steakhouse around by some margin. 1st time back in 5 years and it's gotten even better. Recommend the Porterhouse.

Been to the porterhouse on several occasions now and never had a bad experience, the steaks are always good quality, and the service is great

Have been twice now. First was for the Saturday lunch time deal and I was very happy. Went for Christmas Eve dinner. Couldn't have the Christmas menu as we should have separately booked that, certainly was not obvious when booking a table on their site. I couldn't find that option when I went back looking for that. By 4:30 1/2 the steaks were no longer on the menu as sold out. Come on you a steak house owned by a butchers shouldn't run out that early. I ordered the last ribeye to be cooked blue. What came out was a very flat and extremely thin but large steak. Definitely cooked more than blue but what can you do it was the last one. Food was still tasty for sure so can't complain about that. Just felt let down with the visit. Will more than likely be in 2 minds when we look to book a table out for dinner again.

Went in on Christmas eve. They had crackers for the table which was a sweet thought. I ordered a veg carbonara, it was easily one of the best I've had in the country. The staff were super friendly and lovely too

Good food but we sat near the door every time someone came in it seemed like we were at the north pole very disappointed , we'll go in the summer but never in the winter sorry .

Great restaurant went on a steak night £20 steak choice and a drink very good value delicious food and when the staff heard it was my birthday they sent over a small bottle of prosecco ❤️

We visited last Saturday night and it was excellent. My daughter booked for my 80th birthday treat. Sausages were tasty and chips perfect. We came with an 11 year old and he had his first steak which was outstanding. The cornflake tart was to die for and rounded of a marvellous evening. Decor is amazing. WELL DONE SCOTT AND YOUR STAFF. Can't wait to come back.

Our visit was on Saturday the 7th of October, been to Porterhouse a few times over the past few years and it’s always been very good but this time it was exceptional in every way possible. We didn’t have a starter we went straight for the main courses, my wife had the fillet steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection, I myself had the mixed grill it was amazing the best mixed grill I ever had by far all the meats were cooked perfect and there was plenty of it, I highly recommend the mixed grill especially if you love your food and you have a very good appetite. For desserts I had the crème brouille and the wife had the Eton mess I would say the desserts are slightly overpriced but they were good. Overall our experience was a positive one and would highly recommend that you try Porterhouse by Barlow if your a lover of steak and local produce you will not be disappointed Finally well done to all the team at Porterhouse

Great Sunday meal with my sister , first time visiting for us. Great service,food was cooked lovely. I had the half chicken which was big, only had very small serving of mash potatoes on my, should be more for price. Beer garden to the rear is a great area.

Absolutely lovely service from our waitresses. We was served by two young ladies, and a very good atmosphere, lovely music! The food was amazing and was very quick (despite being very busy). I believe our waitresses were Daisy and Liv. Thank you so much for a lovely night! Will definitely be coming back!

Thought we would give this place a second chance- wish we hadn’t bothered. Staff obviously didn’t want to be there, food was greasy and steak was chewy. Food took an hour and 15 to come, when asked where the food was the waitress went to ask and never returned until 30 mins later with our food. We came for my partners birthday and it was just poor from start to finish. Requested “happy birthday’ was wrote on his pudding when I book a few weeks before. His pudding was bought out without anything on it. Again when I asked waitress responded with “you should have told us when you arrived”. If you like being surrounded with idiots and a cocky chief you’ll love it here

First time here and will definitelygo again. Steak was huge and delicious. The service was prompt and courteous. Excellent value as well on the steak nights.

We went at lunch for a family birthday meal! The food and service were good. There was a menu on for one drink and one steak at £20 which was a great price. However there wasn't any veggie options, when we asked the staff they have us the evening meal menu and our family could order what they wanted! Steak was lovely but a little dry on the edges but I think that's down to the amount of people! I would go again!

My name is David therefore I am prone to moaning apparently (according to review statistics) BUT NOT THIS TIME! The only thing I can moan about is not having anything to moan about! It was absolutely fabulous. We went for the Saturday Afternoon £20 Steak Night deal (advertised quite clearly on the website when we booked). It matched the menu on our table on arrival, we knew exactly what to expect. I say this because, at the same time a party of 10 arrived on a pre-booking moaning about the menu and kept asking about the 5pm A La Carte menu items and were quite difficult when told they weren’t available yet. Yep, I’m now moaning about the moaners.. if you’re veggie, call ahead, see what they can do. Particularly if you’re called David. Anyway, back to our experience. Booking was easy, menus on the website accessible and clearly Steak-hefty.. but not exclusive. Our deal today was a selection of steak meals with trice-cooked seasoned chips, a breakfast mushroom, a grilled tomato and side salad.. with a pint of beer or 175ml glass of wine. TWENTY QUID!! I mean, I had a 16oz Jurassic steak with a pint for TWENTY QUID!! Now, added to this perfectly (rare) cooked 16oz tasty lump of cow, the chips were delicious and then (and this is a deal breaker for me)…a perfectly grilled sweet, juicy and seasoned FULLY GRILLED tomato and a butter-tasty mushroom on the side. A balsamic seasoned salad looked nice and tasted just as good. Simply sublime. My wife paid £5 extra for an 8oz fillet which was worth every penny. She was just as happy and the side order of a large bowl-full of creamy garlic mushrooms was enough for two (so I had to help out of duty!) My brandy-infused peppercorn sauce was simply delicious also. The 8-quid puddings were massive! I enjoyed a huge homemade cornflake tart with custard and my wife had perfectly flambéed crème brûlée with orange shortcake. It’s only expensive if it’s rubbish.. I’d happily pay twice as much if I was wealthy. Just terrific. The staff are friendly and super-efficient (and I mean super-efficient.. like pouring the drinks as you’re ordering them with the waitress at the table).. I should add that we’re not steak-buffs, or we weren’t until now. I just don’t think I’ve eaten out and received such good value and quality. You must go! And our excellent waitress was Reneá

Have you ever come across someone who clearly doesn't like their job (and is also not very good at it)? We came across a whole restaurant full of them! Booked a table about a month in advance, but on arrival they seemed to be struggling to find it, and then it turns out they had written it for 4 instead of 5 people. She informed me of this and left a pregnant pause; not sure if I was supposed to suggest at this point that one of us would wait in the car or something?! Anyway, after deliberation they offered to put an extra chair onto the end of a table - fine, but in such a small place this really made us feel in the way. It was a busy service with plenty of staff, but sadly not a lot of competence between them and definitely not a smile to be had! It's one thing to dislike your job, but don't show that to the customers for goodness' sake! 4 drinks orders were taken and then the waitress walked away...again, there were 5 of us. We had to call her back to take the fifth order. No second drinks were offered, so we had to call someone over to order those - in a restaurant, isn't it standard to keep an eye on drinks and try to upsell a second one? For a restaurant primarily specialising in steak, it is a real oversight for the steak to be tough on one plate, and not cooked to the order on another (asked for medium rare, got rare to blue - better to be under than over, but still, why ask how you'd like it cooked?) This was a birthday meal, but we felt underwhelmed and made to feel like we were an inconvenience. When we got up to leave, not one member of staff acknowledged us or even turned in our direction - bad hosting. It was a weird vibe in there throughout to be honest, almost as if the staff had a big fight immediately before service and none of them were talking to each other, or anyone dining there! Would not recommend!

We visited here on a Saturday night so it was busy but comfortable. We were shown to a table by a lovely young lady called Olivia. She offered us a drink straight away while we looked at the menu. We decided against starters as I wanted to eat all of my mains. We both ordered rump Steaks & they were beautiful, cooked to perfection! Delicious food, brilliant service! Olivia was so attentive. We will definitely visit again!

This was a family birthday celebration. My daughter booked a table for 5 by phone during another occasion when we were together and able to hear the conversation. We arrived last night for our meal and were told that only four of us were expected and they hastily added a chair and place setting to the table in front of the kitchen service area, even then, there wasn't enough cutlery on the table for everybody. The waitress took four drinks orders and then turned and walked away - ok, so it can only get better, right? While we were waiting for the drinks, having now ordered one for each of us, another waitress came over to ask under whose name the booking had been made. From the discussions we could see them having behind the bar and pointing to the booking sheet, we deduced there must have been some sort of error, adding to the feeling we had already of not being expected. The cocktails seemed weak and watery, so we switched to branded drinks. The waiting staff were surly and unfriendly, making us feel unwelcome. Toilets were not signed, a vague gesture from a waitress led to another very small dining area, where the customers looked even more crammed in than we were. Food took an hour to arrive, but the restaurant was fairly full and the kitchen seemed small. Portion sizes were good, but for me, the food was mediocre at best. I ordered a ribeye steak, which is my 'go to' if it is on the menu. Unfortunately, it was not tender and juicy, but tough and grisly. In all honesty, I have bought better from Morrisons. The waiting staff had been surly and unfriendly for the whole evening, making us feel unwelcome. Even when we came to pay the bill, the waitress did not speak, thrusting the card machine in front of my son in law, as he was holding a card to pay. We stood to leave, at which point, in most other establishments, staff might thank us for our custom, say goodbye, a small gesture. Not here though. We had not been to this restaurant before and were looking forward to it, but the visit was disappointing and having since seen other reviews, it seems that ours was by no means a unique experience.. There are better places to eat than this and I would recommend trying elsewhere, we certainly won't be making a return visit.

Went for Sunday lunch with family wish I hadn't.. although we like for steaks.. We had Sunday roast and the meal was not that good. Beef wasn't cooked enough and most of dinner was cold..

No nonsense, good food. The steaks are, as you'd hope, excellent. Service was great. The only slight downside is it can be terribly noisy when busy

Been to porterhouse on numerous special occasions with family and friends and always recommend it to everyone including the butchers which my family have used since I can remember. Unfortunately Our recent reservation didn’t live up to expectations. I booked a table over a month ago for 4 people and after arriving 10 minutes early we got placed upstairs in a back room on a table for 2 because there were no other tables available. Luckily our friends hadn’t arrived yet. We must’ve been there 15/20 minutes before we got offered a drink, and that even came warm. We finally got a table for 4 and there were more than 1 item of food/drink they were out of stock on including fillet steak and Heineken 0%. The food was great, tasty and cooked to perfection as always. However there were a lot of waiting around to order drinks, receiving drinks etc which dampened the whole experience. I will however return in future, I just hope the service can get back to where it used to be.

The Service by all the ladies was amazing, especially Alex. The food was just mouth watering good. Porterhouse by Barlows will now be our go to place for steak. Thank you for a great evening ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

First time visiting for my dads birthday as we’d heard great things and it definitely didn’t disappoint! It was on the Wednesday steak night and we all agreed it was the best steak we’d had in ages and for such great value . The staff were also fantastic, really friendly and even presented the cake we’d brought in and sang happy birthday ( we enjoyed ourselves that much we were the last to leave ) and the puddings we took home were just as amazing..cornflake tart is my favourite. Can’t wait to return .

Been numerous times and live local. Staff are excellent. On our recent visit the meat was of poor quality, not the quality as advertised. Rather than make a fuss we were advised to write to the owner. What can I say poor customer relations or...

Went for steak night, have to say it was the usual Barlow's steak, absolutely superb! Had sirloin 10oz , melt in your mouth. Together with a beer or wine for £20 can't fault it! Puds are good too

Visited Porterhouse last night to celebrate my friends birthday. Our meals were all outstanding. Everybody really enjoyed their food. I had the t bone steak with onion rings and peppercorn sauce and it was to die for. Keep up the great work! Can’t wait to visit again.

I promised a steak dinner to those on my team passing a promotion exam. So it was a table for 4 , on what turned out to be the restaurants steak night. On arrival we got a friendly reception and we're shown to our table....

On arrival we where were welcomed and promptly seated, the waitress was very welcoming and took our food and drink orders. The meal was very hit and miss, the positive was the meat as all the meat was delicious on all dinners but thats where...

Anniversary night out the food here was out of this world if you think you had your best steak meal you haven't been to porterhouse by Barlows try it you won't be disappointed

Have avoided this place for over a year as previous experience was rubbish but thought we would give it another go. Saturday night - amazing food but absolutely rubbish service yet again! Left us sat with dirty plates for 40mins until we asked for them...

Usually get a 10 out of 10 steak and chips, but Valentines day they had a set menu, bit too fancy, no steak and chips :( Although the food we did have was very very nice. Waitress’ were lovely, food was perfectly cooked and presented, just nobody knew it was a set menu on this particular day. I think either they should have made it more obvious prior to booking, or at least had some more basic options, everybody wants Steak on Vday! But cant fault Chef and other staff, still delicious.
