Ego at The Old Ashfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield in Ashfield

I’ve been to Ego three times and have enjoyed to food, however on this occasion I was slightly disappointed, it took 40 minutes to even get starters only after me after where they were. When we reviewed them {cream garlic mushrooms) they were just Luke warm. The rest of the food was ok. The service I did find to be a little slow, I felt like you had to go up and find someone if you wanted another drink or even to pay the bill.

Food was fabulous. Server was brilliant, we waited a bit for food but it was tea time on a Saturday night on valentine's weekend so we expect a bit of a wait. We had a 7 year old, 2 year old and a baby with us and the staff were really good with the kids.

Perfect service from Liam and the team, checking to see if we were okay enough but not too much; and the food was great! Will definitely be back.

Liam served us today, he was such a lovely man who was polite, friendly and attentive. We also had two ladies I'm unsure on their names which were incredible too. We had our 7 month old daughter with us and all three of them couldn't have been more welcoming. This is our third time coming to Egos and we love it each time! Thank you

Chloe was great food was nice although interesting mushy peas very fresh flavour not at all what we expected but still lovely could have done with a few more chips with the fish. Had a great time would come back again

Staff and Beers on tap are wonderful, I was on Estrella lovely clean notes and well kept lines, staff extremely attentive and very hospitable - I tend to travel up to Mansfield quite a bit for work, and so far, this is the nicest restaurant I've found local to my hotel. It's my second visit to the Ego - I ordered the Ribeye cooked MR 280g £28.50 on a relatively busy Thursday evening, it took over 30 minutes to arrive. It was cooked well, lovely temperature and nice charring. But I felt for the price - the quality of the steak didn't match up. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing, but the fat wasn't rendered and the steak was still tough. I'll be back but I wanted to leave an honest review, thanks 👍

A lovely meal with lots of choice for lunch. Great setting and easy to park. Chloe our server was lovely- really pleasant, happy to engage and knowledgeable when we asked about items in the menu.. A credit to your restaurant!

Only certain seating for having rea or coffee. Although there were only a handful of people I wasn't able to purchase a pot of tea for one as informed there were no teapots available. My tea was served in a glass latte cup. !!!! I detest glass cups 😬 We felt unwelcome at this venue due to only ordering a drink.

Came for the second time when travelling through to my mother-in-law’s and what a wonderful experience we were served by Gemma which acquired all of our needs and attended to any drinks as soon as they needed refilling the food was absolutely outstanding and Gemma was absolutely amazing with all requests highly recommend 10 out of 10

Great venue, spotlessly clean and the staff were brilliant and attentive. The food was some of the best I've had out in ages and was enjoyed by all. I had the Duo of Pork and it was divine 😋

Always found this place really nice to dine in. However I'm finding that it's cleanliness is going down hill, dirty menus, condiments on tables, candles on tables etc. This seems to be getting worse the last few times I have been.

Had to wait over an hour and a half for food for a 40th birthday. Most of the food ended up being cold and som had to be returned. When questioned the wait we told 5 mins to be another 30 minutes. An offer of a discount offered however wouldn't return

Absolutely fantastic experience! Chloe one of the members of staff here was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming – they truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The food was simply outstanding! Every dish was fresh, flavourful, and authentic. Chloe also recommended us her personal favourites which certainly did not disappoint!! Highly recommend this place if you’re craving great Mediterranean food with exceptional service. They also offer an amazing 3 courses for 2 people for just £40!! Will certainly be back again!

First time visiting today for my birthday and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our meals were lovely, the service was excellent, all staff were very friendly and Chloe made us feel very welcome :) Will definitely visit again!

Great tasting food nice atmosphere - not sure about the dress code of some of the clientelle but the price is right for the quality of food and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Well worth a visit!

Family occasion to celebrate a birthday. Excellent food and and service.

Food is a bit pricey here but lovely, thankfully they have a 50% off for ego members for the next few weeks so took advantage. Only criticism on this occasion was food took a long time to come out but thankfully was meeting a friend that I hadn't seen for a while so we were chatting while we waited.

Lovely place with very friendly, engaging staff. The food was well cooked and very tasty and our waiter James was attentive but not intrusive. My friend and I had a lovely time.

James was a lovely young man and looked after us well. He was very helpful and polite ,it was a great experience all round Thankyou. This is not a complaint but the music was a little loud and we were struggling to have a conversation at times, it’s probably because we’re getting old though 🫢❤️

They refused to ,acknowledge the free meal for a birthday celebration despite it not being a Sunday. This is the second time this has happened in 2024

When visiting today, the food was beautiful and the staff was kind and very helpful. The atmosphere was Normal for a restaurant/Pub.

Sometimes, you just need a night out that hits all the right notes. And that’s exactly what we experienced recently - a truly lovely meal shared with friends in an atmosphere that was just right. But beyond the food and drinks, what truly elevated the evening was the service. We were incredibly lucky to have Evie as our waitress. From the moment we sat down, she was attentive, friendly, and genuinely seemed invested in ensuring we had a great time. We never had to flag her down, she was always one step ahead, keeping our drinks topped up and checking in to see if we needed anything. Her excellent service really made a difference and turned a good night into a truly memorable one. Thank you, Evie! Overall, this was just the type of relaxed and enjoyable meal we were hoping for. It was a combination of great company, a welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and cocktails that didn't break the bank. And with service as fantastic as Evie provided.

Fabulous choice of menus, festive and normal. Food was very good and tasty. Our waitress Chloe was lovely, really informative about the menu and drinks. Super friendly service; will return soon!

Being a regular visitor here for the Sunday 3 course meal priced at 24.95 I decided too bring a group off my friends here for the festive 3 course meal we arrived at 5.40 and didn't leave till 7.45 as waiting so long for each course too be brought out the portions was tiny and priced more than the Sunday dinner 3 course meal we have .only too be told by the very rude manager that the 3 hour duration off the meal was normal I find this ridiculous to be honest the service was so slow nd the food was just prepacked stuff nothing home cooked about it in my opinion absolutely disgusting very disappointed will not be returning

Went to ego for kids Christmas party previously attend past 2 years , disorganised, food poor , dirty toilets , my sister sent her food back , complained about the toilets , very small portion sizes , kids had chicken which was burnt and dry , drunk loud people in the restaurant at 5pm not really suitable for children , serving staff were good polite and considerate only good thing about the place.

Came for a Christmas works do, served by Chloe S who was very attentive and proved a fast, professional service. Would definitely recommend, the food was delightful, Thankyou Chloe :)

Excellent restaurant. Great choice on the menus. Brilliant friendly staff who actually look like they are enjoying their job. The only thing lacking is a decent real ale on the bar, just like down the road at the Toby, another one in Mitchell and Butlers empire.

Came at 6pm on a Friday, the restaurant and bar was super busy but the customer service was utter perfection. Greeted immediately at the door with smiles. Service was quick, we wasn't left waiting. Our server Chloe was polite and quick to greet us and take drinks and food orders. Food served by Mattia, I have a dairy allergy and it was handled at the upmost importance. Brought out seperately to other food on the table. Cannot praise our visit enough. Will definitely be back this year!

Oh dear. Six of us went for lunch yesterday. We have been a number of times before but yesterday must have been the worst. There was only ONE waiter and his manager. We waited 30mins for our drinks to arrive and then one and half hours for our meal. The two staff were running around as if they were on fire and we felt quite sorry for the waiter taking orders, serving and clearing tables. His manager was mixing and serving drinks. Who ever owns Ego needs to get a grip before this business disappears. We would have booked again before Christmas but not now.
