Poppins Restaurant in Barking and Dagenham

Why has this got a good to excellent overall rating? Because it deserves it. By far the best Cafe around. The front of house guy is amazing, takes the order, brings some out, cleans the tables and takes the money. A lot of establishments could learn a lot from the way this man works. If he brings something out he looks around to take empties back and cleans the table. I have been I to loads of cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants where staff would rather chit chat to one another or be on their mobile. This place is awesome and the food is great for the price, the service is absolutely spot in and a great community atmosphere. Highly recommend above all other eating places in the area.

Each time we have been here we have enjoyed our meals. The owner is very friendly and staff r very efficient. He remembered how we like our coffee too. Food is lovely and served very quickly and well. The cafe is very clean and cosy. Our Granddaughter recommended it to us. Will definitely be regular customers now.

Only place worth a visit in Barking to grab a bite to eat and drink

Bought their cheapest set breakfast for £6.50. It came with fried bread but I was asked if I wanted to swap it for toast so I thought that was good customer service but I declined. Nice big, tasty coffee. Sausage could have been a bit more 'meaty'. Cooked to order.

Came yesterday had a No 4 breakfast absolutely spot on , they actually cooked the tomatoes through. Service was quick and friendly. We returned today. Definitely a place to eat at any time.

Appalling experience. I had my phone stolen from me in the shop whilst the staff watched and did nothing about this. I am a wheelchair user. I am left totally feeling unsafe going into the cafe again

Pretty good value. Food is good. Though the customer is not thought about from a noise perspective. Not great to relax during lunch. Between banging plates, clatering knives and forks - totally oblivious to the impact on the customer. The owner is a good man, bit the noise....

Very busy on a Saturday morning. Nice and clean, I had simple breakfast nice and hot. Not cheapest in the area but good food.

Perfect little breakfast or lunch place, clean, quaint, friendly, fast, and most of all great food and menu! Highly recommended if you are in the area and want to relax in a great little diner!

Truly a hidden gem in the Barking area. Highly recommend the Cherry Pancakes if you like rich sweets. The coffee was great, too. The server was polite and the service was quick. If you're in the barking area or are a tourist like me, go here. Excellent breakfast in a cozy diner style environment. GREAT PRICES AND VERY REWARDING.

A real gem of a family restaurant in the heart of barking shopping area. Great selection of meals for the whole family. Great food at great prices. Friendly staff and efficient service. In the made of eateries in barking is easy to miss this diamond in the rough. The milkshakes are really good and a personal favourite of both mine and my partners. Overall. Don't miss this one...

I hit this place Friday lunchtime and left impressed. At around 25 covers, larger than average. Clean tables, waitress service. Food arrived quickly, well cooked, and decent portions. Toilet onsite, pay by card - you can't ask for much more. Recommended

This cafe is a gem in Barking. Great food in good portions, quick with great customer service and the price is good. If you ever need a good meal you can’t go wrong here.

This is by far the better Poppins I have been too. Such good service alway greeted with such happiness, Food is wonderful and doesn't charge you extra to swap drinks most places do, The manager even let me charge my phone as I was waiting on a urgent call with low battery.

Only had coffee which was quite nice, and the waiters were very happy to help. £5 minimum spend before card can be used so beware if you don't have cash!!

Clean place, staff always on the go. But fry ups were a bit greasy, as was the bacon sarnie I had... Shame really 😕 The only thing that put me off of going there again was the discussing smell from shop next door... Phew wot a pong!!!

We had an amazing breakfast . The waiter was very attentive and friendly (Turkish guy), also offered different options from the menu. My flat white “coffee” was really good . Thanks so much, I would recommend this little gem of Barking .

Great service, good food, however if you are tall or on the bigger side the chairs are bolted to the floor and far too close to the table making eating uncomfortable and awkward.

Clean restaurant and good food at very affordable prices.

Great time out with the family. About 5 other people in the cafe when we, a group of 8, showed up. Waiter took our orders and food showed up soon enough. Portions were large and food cooked through and tasty. We ordered dessert too and that was tasty and came in good time although one order came slightly later. Toilets are upstairs though so not accessible to wheelchair users. Parking can be found around the cafe, we parked up at the local leisure centre which was about 5 mins walk away. Prices at the cafe were fair considering its location and demographics. We visited during Barking Market day (Tuesday, also on Thurs & Sat) so busy outside but inside it was quieter and a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle outside. It's also about 10mins walk from Barking Station so helpful for those families travelling on tube etc. Staff were friendly (not overly familiar or smiley), professional and got down to serving us with aplomb. Nothing too much for them. One of our party spilt a drink and we had to move tables due to the mess, but we weren't made to feel like we were an inconvenience or silly, floor was mopped, table wiped and back to business as usual. Brilliant service! Really helpful people, thank you for having us!!

Fresh food old fashioned service great verity I had a fresh salad with chips so fresh so much on plate presented in a great way . Only thing is disabled there is a toilet but upstairs so go before x This staff were warm friendly and did a great job 👏

Love going here, with it being round the corner from work it's a great place to go for lunch. The staff are great and food is well cooked.

Clean tidy and the food is to die for the staff are so friendly I go in there when ever I go to London from Wales and eat in there all the time always give the 3'children a lolly when you pay if there was more then five stars I would give them 10 100% thank you Poppins

Excellent place to eat! Open plan kitchen, you can see how your food is prepared, chef is super clean and tidy as he works with a lovely attitude. Family run business with a warm environment. By far the best place in Barking, excellent food, excellent service and reasonable price. Recommended - will be back again 👍

Prices high. Food awful. Example. Ordered a sausage sandwich. Must of been 2 sausages max that was sliced minimum 3 times then fried meaning meat was non existent. Then to top it off, they didn't even both buttering the bread.

Food was enjoyable and well done, but what impressed me most about this establishment was the service polite, friendly and efficient. When next in Barking area will use it again.

Staff were reuse and dismissive. My mother ordered a shepherd's pie, which was overheated in the microwave and looked like slop. When my mum pointed this out the manager just said that is how it is. There was no apology or attempt to correct this error. I will not be going back there, it is not worth the money.

I have been coming here frequently for about 5/6 years and always been the same lovely people running it. Amazing food, whether you fancy something hot or cold, and their milkshakes are to die for. Good place to come for brunch with mates or your partner, or for lunch or dinner as a family. The staff are so friendly and always very welcoming. Decent prices and always leave you wanting to come back.

If you want the added ingredient of hair in your food, then this is the place for you. I've been here twice and always found hairs in my food and it always seems to be in the baked beans. No idea what they're getting up to there.

A nice place to go and eat with friendly staff and nice food. The view out the window of some market stalls is not everyone's idea of perfection but you can watch the world go by while talking with the people you are eating with. Been going here a few years now and do not think I have ever had a bad experience due to the restaurant. The food tastes great and comes in good quality but the only small down side I can think of is the tables are a bit small. They do have access for people with less mobility to g6in but the door is not automatic so has to be operated by hand.

I have loved this place since I found it when pregnant with my youngest, my kids love it and family. Great price value and staff are always polite and welcoming. I have taken countless people here and highly recommend them. They are so clean and you feel so comfortable and welcomed when you enter the Cafe. I think everyone should try them great price value.

Excellent all day English breakfasts - very hearty and filling at a great price. In the heart of the town, easy to get to with excellent public transport links. Staff are polite and helpful.

Very rude, charge for baguettes without informing me , spent £16 today , just waste of money .avoid this place , never again !!!!!

Love eating at this cafe, whether it's for a meal out with friends/family or just on a lunch break, good selection of delicious food and drink that caters to most people (vegan, vegetarian, halal) and outstanding service from staff who make you feel comfortable and welcome. Good pricing and you definitely get your money's worth. Both the areas where the food is stored and cooked and where you eat are always cleaned and hygienic, as are the toilet facilities. Can't recommend enough

We went to Poppins for lunch.The male staff member was friendly and very prompt in taking our order.We ordered fish and chips which came out quickly. We were also asked if we wanted any extra sauces. They were good sized portions.The fish was quite bland but the chips tasted nice. Overall a reasonably priced cafe.

Bright diner with all day breakfast. We liked the vegetarian version of the traditional "English Breakfast" that was good and filling. Service was fast and adjusted menu items to fit diet restrictions.
