Poppins Café Restaurant in West Dorset

Food was terrible. Straight from Iceland to the fryer. Waitress was very rude making comments about my son. Manager didn't want to know. Absolutely fuming about the whole experience. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Called in before getting train had toasted tea cake this was very nice and very reasonably priced. Place was clean and staff friendly would call again if in the area.

I had a bite to eat and a drink in Poppins today while I waited for my bus. I was greeted by a proper hand sanitiser station that actually had sanitiser available (so many are empty these days) and a really friendly waitress. Throughout, the restaurant was spotlessly clean and there were good covid protocols in place. As each diner left, one of the waitresses would properly clean the tables. I'm a cleaner myself and, in this restaurant, even the corners on the floor were absolutely spotless - how it should be. I had a cheese burger and chips with a fizzy drink, which was good and it was also excellent value for money. Will be going there again when I am next in Dorchester.

Popped in for a light lunch for two, dessert and coffees. Expected to have cheese on toast, but the comprehensive menu tempted us with cheese omelette and chips, coffees followed by apple tart with custard, All food prepared quickly and arrived on the table hot, surroundings clean, light airy and spacious. I personally find it bizarre that many restaurants do not offer simple cheese on toast (they do here) and although not offered or supplied when I return I was offered that if I supply Worcestershire sauce or danish blue they will be happy to add to cheese on toast. We were very impressed by everything, food quality, service and cleanliness… including toilets. I am registered blind and found the access to table and chairs particularly easy and it had very good lighting including natural light. Very highly recommended, I hope this establishment goes from strength to strength.

Not Vegan friendly but told yes by server. Only has 2 fryers Sausages are fried in one Which fryer has fish🤔 So fries and hash browns are cooked in what ??🤔 allergy to fish or sausage but only order chips how will the customer be aware? Blow torch used on eggs 🤔 You can see as you pass cooking station on way to toilets. They need a sign saying not Vegan friendly and server never asked if any allergies. Are staff trained to be able to answer questions in relation to Vegan, Seagans and Pescetarians for example. Obviously not. Food very bland. Sausages poor quality No fresh cakes to have with coffee or tea which is a disappointment Lovely clean cafe/restaurant but my opinion it lacks of vision. Half empty but could be buzzing. Is it a cafe or a restaurant as it feels a bit of both rather than one identity.

Visited this place recently (November 2021) with a friend who lives locally Great menu Pleasant staff Plenty of seating Reasonable prices Orders taken at the table and food bought to you Pay on the way out Clean A great day and the all day breakfast (included a drink) with chips kept me filled up all day Will be hopefully going back on my next visit there - I am not local BUT it is well recommended after my first visit

Good friendly service from new waitress then had to wait 15 minutes for basic breakfast of egg, 1 poor quality sausage, 1 bacon, half tomato, beans and 1 round of toast plus pot of tea. Asked for another 2 rounds of toast and served 4 slices! When I went to counter and paid £10.40, yes that is correct! I was told one round of toast was 2 slices in there by an offish female. I would not visit again and know there are plenty of eateries around offering better service and much better food.

One bit of the meal was missing but they did not want to know which was not nice. Has put us off of going again

Lovely little restaurant, perfect for breakfast - especially with the family. Service is brilliant too. My daughter loves the pancakes.

We arrived at Dorchester wanting to get a few bits for our camping trip, we decided to have breakfast, we walked through the high street and came across Poppins, we looked at the window menu and then through the window it was spotless, we went and sat in the seats that are like an American diner, very comfy. I ordered the vegetarian and hubby had mega breakfast, it was all cooked fresh on the open kitchen, i had a veggie Pattie with my breakfast which was delicious, hubby’s looked fantastic, he was very happy and stuffed!! Would definitely recommend this restaurant 😊

We stopped off here for lunch, service was ok, alas the food was very bland and not very tasty, we could not recommend this place. Shame really.

I dont know what the quick bite review was complaining about as it is clear fish is fried and with chips as stated on menu. I had the fish and it was lovely and not dried out. Food was very hot, peas good quality. Service brilliant and prices good. Restaurant is decorated well and very clean. Will highly recommended to others.

Very clean and quick friendly service. Good value light lunch and generous pots of tea were just what we needed. You get the price of your car park ticket back too as a bonus.

It's always clean the food is always hot and tasty it has become mine and my kids favourite place to eat when popping in to Dorchester all staff are polite and happy what more could you ask for

Decided to treat myself to lunch whilst waiting for an appointment time. Very comprehensive menu. Friendly staff, hot freshly cooked food, very clean and tidy. Lovely little place.

This restaurant is new and staff amazing.. the food is fresh and hot. Quality brilliant. I think other review might of went to a different restaurant as fish great quality, certainly not Iceland's rubbish. Restaurant is immaculate. Will return.

Popped in here last wee for a quick midday lunch. Would not really recommend. It was clean and staff were pleasant but the food was pretty dire. I hade the fish and chips. Fish was a cheap Iceland type frozen thing deep fried - Yuk...
