Poppins in East Hampshire

My Aunt and I have visited the Poppin regularly over the last 10 years. The staff are very friendly and the food is good. They are always accepting of whoever comes to their cafe. The cost is reasonable and the food is simple and freshly cooked.

Went with my wife for a coffee and tea. Manager / owner was not at all friendly or welcoming just stared at me. I used there toilet whilst my wife ordered our drinks but unfortunately they did not have the tea she wanted and as we started to leave the owner / manager started becoming very aggressive and shouting at me which everyone could hear in his native language as he was not English, which was totally uncalled for saying toilet. Avoid this place at all cost. Owner / manager needs to learn how to go on a customer experience course.

I witnessed this! Went absolutely mad, shouting furiously. Came out of nowhere, horrible to witness. I shan't be returning. And the toilet might have been clean but the loo brush...eugh. Shame as the female staff lovely and the food fine.

First time in Peters field yesterday we popped in for coffee and a bite to eat. I said l would order coffees while Hubby went to use the toilet. While l was deciding what to order this older man in a white shirt, perhaps the owner of the restaurant serving behind the counter had a streaming cold. He had a small tea towel which he was using to blow his nose & wipe his hands. He then took the same tea towel and starter wiping the counter and the glass cabinet in front of him! He asked me what l wanted to order. I was so disgusted I just want to leave. My Hubby returned l said they didn’t have what l wanted and we promptly left. As we were walking out the man got aggressive and started shouting abuse at us in a foreign language. All l could understand was toilet. He thought we had only come in to use the toilet. On the plus my hubby said the toilet was clean.

Called in for a light lunch. So glad we did. Very friendly staff, very quick service,very clean toilets,very hot coffee,very reasonable prices. Food was lovely. Really enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend.

My wife & I called in for lunch. I ordered the chicken curry and she the all inclusive breakfast. When the food came, hers was fine but my curry was completely and utterly tasteless. I guessed it was just a can of the cheapest rubbish they could lay their hands on from the local cash & carry. Honestly even a Tesco can would have been a massive upgrade. I wasn't going to complain as I am too meek & mile, but my wife insisted. I thought, well if nobody tells them they won't know. So I told the young waiter and he was very apologetic & invited me to choose something else from the menu and stated very clearly that I would not be charged for the curry. So I ordered cod & chips. Well it was just about passable but again the fish was really just a bit of mush in some cheap batter.Anyway, when I came to pay the owner (the young waiter's father I guess) the bill came to £21.45! I pointed out to the owner that I wasn't supposed to be paying for the curry. He immediately became quite angry and just kept shouting it was in date. Eventually he stopped shouting enough to let me explain the waiter told me I wouldn't be charged for the curry. The owner then became very angry and abusive to the waiter, but still insisted I pay the full bill. I refused point blank & by now was getting a bit angry myself. He sold me to Shhh! (Which didn't help!) Anyway in the end he gave in and didn't charge me for the pathetic curry and was moaning "don't ever bring your custom here". I explained that I would rather starve then visit his shoddy cafe again. The owner then stormed of and then the waiter apologised profusely saying it was all his fault. I felt really sorry for him as it was the cheating psychopathic owner that has the problem.

Went there for the last day of Eat Out To Help Out and before we sat down at our table asked if they were still doing the offer and was told yes. Sat down and ordered our food which in my case was so called medium rare Sirloin Steak and my partner ordered Cod and chips, when it arrived it was one thing the cod being all batter and no fish but as pictured with this review the Steak was definitely not medium rare, was just a thin slice of steak and you couldn’t even cut into it, when I brought this to the attention of the chef she said that is how medium rare is supposed to be! Then at the end it was time to pay and when I asked where my 50% discount was he informed me they were no longer doing the offer, refused to discuss it and charged me the full amount, this is my first and last visit to a Poppins, avoid at all costs!

We popped in to town, not knowing where would be open, and we were glad we did. We both had the individual breakfast, my son had juice,I had coffee. He rated it 15/10! Clean, tidy, tasty food delivered swiftly. What more could you want?

Whilst I like Poppins usually, I felt a little let down by the Petersfield branch. I order weed a burger and milkshake and what I was charged seemed a little high. It was only once I’d sat down I realised I’d been billed for chips also - I hadn’t mentioned them and they weren’t offered to me - essentially he just added them on to my bill. I was going to comment but I thought rather than make a fuss I’d take the chips.Sadly to add insult to injury the chips were overcooked and most were thrown away. There was no offer of salt and vinegar or sauce. The burger was however very nice.The milkshake was tasty too but in honesty was a tiny portion and not worth the price paid.The staff were polite and the restaurant clean, it’s a real shame about the sneaky addition of the chips which they then overcooked. It’s put me off of going back if I’m honest.

Walking around Petersfield on a rainy day I just wanted something simple and nice to eat.Most of the restaurants seemed to be trying too hard with combinations of ingredients.Just a mushroom omelette with chips and a latte-both piping hot and tasty.Staff polite -restaurant spotless -all round excellent.

Visiting Petersfield, had a wander round then fancied something to eat. Never been to a Poppins before and were pleasantly surprised. Nice friendly welcome as we walked in. We had 2 main meals which were very good value and a good size. Left feeling full. Worth a visit if in the area.

The was a very nice establishment. Menu varied, mainly with chips etc. It you usual quick café, inexpensive, large portions, which are cooked quickly for you whilst you drink your coffee.Having said that the food was excellent value, the staff very efficient, helpful and friendly.Not rushing you to eat and leave, you are left to have a leisurely lunch, sometimes not found in other places.

Myself , my mum and nan went here today for lunch as my nan is a big fan of poppins restaurants but hey so am I. Greeted by a gentleman work when entering the restaurant and found a nice table for us 3. We looked through the menu and decided to go with Jacket potato with bacon and beans and a side salad which was yummy. A late breakfast with added beans and sausage. Few drinks and a bacon egg and chips. We all enjoyed and finished our meals very tasty and friendly staff . Very clean restaurant and toilets were clean. Recommend to anyone . All freshly cooked to order

I've been here a few times for lunch on a Friday. The staff are very efficient and friendly. Normal your food is on the table within 5 minutes or so and is always nice.

Come to Petersfield and us 3 had to stop for a nice lunch . Always greeted when we walk in and got a nice table near the window . We ordered drinks and a lovely children’s cowboy meal and 2 brunches with beans . Well cooked and satisfied. Thanks guys always a pleasure

Took my nan out for a bite to eat and her decision was to go here . I had been in a while ago and it’s always been nice . Greeted as soon as you walk in and the service is fabulous in here . We ordered our drinks and food. We had a large diet coke and a green tea and for food we got cheese burger with bacon and salad with chips , my nan got egg bacon and chips . Portions of chips here are great so always get them. Great restaurant and always and has been spotless.

We pop in about once a month,soon ever you walk in they are there to greet you with a lovely Hello !! Brilliant service and very polite

I eat here at weekends throughout the year and the food quality, friendly service and cleanliness is always absolutely excellent. Highly recommended.

Very attentive staff. Typical cafe with a little bit extra. Very good prices, good size portions and always come out full. The coffee is great too. Shame tucked away off main high street and having to compete with the dreaded high street chains. We need to support places like this

Fast food on a plate, good prices, and what you get on the plate really looks like the photos in the menu.

De passage à peterfield ce restaurant est parfait fait pour différents menus pas très chers et de qualité. A 6 nous sommes obligés de prendre 2 tables, celle ci sont soudées, les enfants ont bien aimé les fish and chips et les parents les salades.

When in peterfield i used a few times do lovely food cooked very quickly lots to pick on the menu people who run it very helpful and friendly

Cheap and very cheerful. Good stop for a quick bite and cup of tea. Not upmarket but classier than a greasy spoon!

This is a regular cafe offering the usual breakfast and lunch menu but the service is really good. Food is always cooked to order and fresh and they always remeber your face, and favourite foods, if you go there regularly!

Tan pronto como el asiento hacia abajo, un camarero cálida bienvenida le espera todo está impecable y limpia, incluyendo las habitaciones de descanso. Mi amigo tenía un desayuno inglés completo, no me puedo quejar, tuve de patata y ensalada fresca todo chaqueta, ambas comidas presentado y atractivo. Té y café bien. Volvería de nuevo una buena relación calidad-precio y excelente serviçe.

Hemos estado allí 3-4 veces durante nuestra semana en Petersfield. Un lugar agradable para un turista que desea probar algunos de los platos que son normalmente vistos en libros sobre Inglaterra.

Excellent service very good breakfast and very spotless. Would recommend anyone to visit for a meal.

First time we have used this group of restaurants, a very warm welcome, waiter service was excellent, food was hot and well presented prices were good too, its a simple menu from good fry -up to jacket potatoes & salads with a good selection of drinks ,coffee good !! Staff very smart, kitchen staff uniforms very clean& tidy (nice to see ) the place itself was spotless, will use them again when we are next in the town ( visited on the 28/8 /16 )

We've used a few of this places in this group but Petersfield is most local and most visited.Always good service, very clean, typical "diner"-style menu. Pretty good value.

Arrived on day trip to Petersfield around 1pm today Friday 1st July. Walked from the car park and immediately spotted this restaurant displaying boards offering various breakfasts. Husband is always up for a good fry -up so ordered the the £4.50 one which had 2 rashers of bacon, 1 fried egg, 1 sausage, mushrooms, fried bread and tomato. A veritable feast arrived piping hot.- perfect. I only ordered chips and a HUGE plate of them arrived again piping hot.. Husband got half the chips in exchange for a rasher of bacon a few mushrooms and half a slice of fried bread.! Coffee was lovely .,they had newspapers available and in the time we were there the restaurant filled up - obviously this,restaurant is well known for good food. Get in there - and enjoy!

We have visited here on many occasions and felt the time is right to review, the place is always spotless, the staff are always pleasant, and the food is always good, I have been to a few poppins in the area as I have kids and I must say this one has got to be the best as the food is always well cooked.

This has to be the most depressing place i've had the misfortune to drop into for a simple cuppa!The waiter just scowled at me throughout & made no effort to help me sign on to the free wifi - he stood over me as i made multiple failed attempts to enter the password; i think he thought i was going to steal the card with the password on it!I was the only person in the restaurant & there were several staff who stood around as if they were waiting for the coffin to arrive at a funeral. I did get another waiter to sign me on wifi & he was very pleasant. Tea & tea cake were perfectly fine & the place was spotlessly clean but the service ruined it.

Just popped in on the off chance while waiting for my bike to have its MOT.Pleasantly surprised. Really clean, bright and friendly environment. Staff very welcoming and efficient.Served at my table and my cod and chips appeared cooked to order and tasted lovely. Well presented and great value. Will definitely visit again.

This establishment serves good cafe style food quickly and cheaply. The staff are friendly and look after your every need.

Been here a few times when we have visited Petersfield Staff are very friendly and service was very very quick has a toasted tea cake and a pot of tea this little cafe was also extreamly clean .

There's plenty to choose from and the place is always squeaky clean. The staff always say hello and goodbye. In my experience they are always on the ball and the inclusive breakfast, served all day, is filling and tasty. The only thing I can fault is the sausages... I would happily pay an extra 50p for better quality sausages and bacon to be put on the plate.I've tried most of the places for breakfasts in petersfield and I keep going back here. I've never waited longer than 10 minutes for my food and go at least once a fortnight.

Simple food cooked to order, clean surroundings, clean toilets and friendly efficient staff.Very popular with locals .There is an extensive menu of basic British food at very reasonable prices.The breakfast menu also includes vegetarian options.We will be back.

The cleanliness and attention to detail at this Poppins is fabulous.The food is great and the service exemplary. This is 'caf' food at it's best and a real eye-opener that such professionalism can exist at a value pricepoint.

A great cafe for a quick bite to eat. Its not cordon bleu but it is tasty and well cooked. Staff are always friendly and attentive.

OK, its a Wimpey like' cafe but the team are great and I always get great service when I eat there with or without the family. Just like the others its a standard British Cafe menu but all cooked fresh!

This is the place I go to without fail in Petersfield when I'm looking for simple fare well done and at a great price. It's a regular Sunday morning stop for a late breakfast - the staff are always very welcoming, you're served in a flash, and everything is always piping hot, which is lovely - all for very reasonable costs. Just remember to bring cash along as they don't take cards, not that you'll need to spend much for a meal. :)I will be honest and say before I ever went in I judged it unreasonably - thought it would be a subpar 'greasy spoon' - but having eaten there regularly for months I'm ashamed I ever judged it by the somewhat utilitarian looking outside! It's always spotless inside and I've never once had a bad meal there. Sometimes all you want is something simple. Poppins does the basics so well.

This is a lovely cafe the staff are always really friendly the food is always cooked to perfection you never have to wait long to order perfect place for breakfast or lunch

Poppins is very friendly it is not that expensive they are extremely polite to everyone they do change stuff on the menu if u dont like something and dont charge which is better but it is a little bit more expensive the wetherspoons but you get quality of food at poppins and more politeness but please not the one in Petersfield is Cash only if you are going to pop in .

This is the place to have fish and chips in the town. The milkshakes are wonderful and the deserts are just too tempting! Very quick service too!

Cleanest cafe you could ever wish to visit. Efficiency must be the managers middle name. Far superior than your average cafe.

I reluctantly went in here because our Aussie visitor wanted to try out an english greasy spoon...well...couldn't fault the place! From start to finish these guys greeted us warmly when we came in, brought menus straight over, took our order in a timely fashion and food arrived shortly after, hot, exactly what we ordered...and tasted great too. Well done Poppins.

quick and clean the staff very friendly. if you like the wimpy's your love the poppins try an omelette very nice it's not all burger's . Then wonder round the town of Petersfield

Good food, reasonable prices, friendly cheerful staff, timely service, clean environment - what more could you want.Excellent range of breakfasts (the rest of the menu isn't bad either, but I usually go for the breakfast so have less experience of the rest).

Looking for a reasonably-priced eatery in Petersfield we chose Poppins after looking at the menu outside. Initially only wanting a toastie or snack we were enticed by the photos so chose the gammon special and cheese omelette. Both were very tasty and reasonably priced. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient, promptly clearing tables after departing customers. Good customer service I noticed also included the waitress opening the door for two young mums leaving with pushchairs.

We visited once for breakfast, and we won't be back. It was just a cheap breakfast, the sort you would get abroad. Not very nice at all but probably good for a hangover.

If you want good food served fast and at a reasonable price then Poppins could be the place for you. The staff are great, very friendly and always pleasant too.

The staff are surly, the food poor and the prices high even for a cheap & cheerful fast food outlet. I don't know why the staff are so miserable. Maybe they have to eat there, too.

This is where reviewing a restaurant is so difficult...its like trying to compare different music tracks in different genres! For an out-an-out cheap but good lunchtime meal, this is CONSISTENTLY (and I've been here >10 times now) one of - if not THE best - in Hampshire. Service is BRILLIANT - attentive, instant, friendly. Wide range of simple menus (its a franchise..but Petersfield def better than Waterlooville!).Plentiful servings, always fresh & hot & very tasty. Cappuccino excellent. VERY good value (£7-40 for huge jacket, extra topping, salad trimmings & lge cappuccino). Can't fault it.

we have used this restaurant several times on our way to the coast and every time the food and service was faultless. good choice of grub on the menu, staff on the ball, everywhere clean and tidy.

I have walked past this restaurant many times and been fascinated by how busy it gets despite the unflattering facade. I arranged to meet a friend for lunch and she chose Poppins ad it was close to her workplace. We were both so impressed at the service and cleanliness of the place and the food was very reasonably priced and tasty. The second time we went I asked for my bacon to be really crispy and it arrived on my sandwich exactly how I wanted it. The staff are so polite and attentive and I have never seen a dirty table or any rubbish on the floor. I would recommend Poppins for a fast reasonably priced super clean restaurant any day. I frequently visit Poppins with my two children and husband. The service is always totally fantastic, the manager especially is always so accommodating and will do everything he can do cater to us. The food is standard cafe food at a reasonable price and the atmosphere is always welcoming. Especially at Christmas!

Low quality fare, overpriced. How does a mixed grill include a beef patty ? I really don't like your menu, decor or service.

I first encountered the Poppins chain some 27 years ago in Bath so was pleased when they opened one in Petersfield - interestingly the menu, particularly the kids menu, doesn't appear to have changed that much over the years!Restaurant appears to be family run and the service is fine.Food is fairly standard cafe fayre with various breakfasts and other greasy spoon type meals on offer. The deserts are good though. Something that has always niggled me about this chain is that they price everything in pence eg rather than say £3.65 they show it as 365p - odd!If you are after a quick snack or light lunch then it's not a bad choice but don't expect anything remotely classy!
