We visited Poppies Fish and Chips at Camden as its one of the Fish and Chips locations I was told to visit. The place was good, busy as its a very busy area and this location is just off the main street. Lots of seating as well as a take out counter. The food is good, not the best fish I had in London, but good. Service is also fast as some of the items are already made since the place is busy and food moves quickly. Worth a visit.

Très bonne soirée dans ce resto typique de Camden...très bonnes spécialités fish and ships et autres...on se sent à l'aise, bien accueillis et servis dans un cadre simple et authentique avec en bonus de la bonne musique live!

Really expensive and not that special food. Instead walk 5 minutes more to Camden Market and eat from the many food stalls there.

Now food was ok it wasn’t amazing, but the portion size for the price is small, we also felt rushed, I felt like I needed to hurry to look at the menu before waitress whipped it out of my hands, the staff really hover around you so it didn’t feel relaxed, it was nice but not worth the hype

Delicious. I had the regular cod. All meals come with chips and homemade tartare sauce. There are other options on the menu too but if you come, go for the Fish and Chips as this is what they are known for. Busy even though I went for an early dinner. Clean. Food comes out quickly. Generous portion size and yummy! Love the vibe. Like a US diner place. Would recommend.

Fuimos para probar el típico fish & chips y la verdad que no es algo del otro mundo. Esta bueno pero no para tanto, pedimos 4 platos y para picar calamares. 4 calamares en el plato rebozados y te pegan una caña que no veas. Nos lo advirtió el camarero que eran poquísimos! Noted to be the finest fish and chips in London. It resembles a 1950s diner. Fairly small. Most people were getting to go. One of the reasons the fish and chips are so delicious is they use peanut oil and they fry the fish and the chips separately, and the oil is not cross contaminated with anything other than those ingredients. Crust is thin and quite crunchy. Fish is flavorful and moist. Chips are quite creamy once you bite into them. So good.

Fish and chips molto buono, le porzioni sono proporzionate al prezzo. Mancava sicuramente sale alle patatine ma ogni tavola ha la saliera, quindi non è un grosso problema. Il servizio è decisamente lento, anche solo per poter ordinare abbiamo dovuto aspettare una ventina di minuti.

Called in for lunch while visiting here with my daughter’s new in-laws from America. This was an early visit prior to going shopping and we were the first people in the restaurant. We had told them how good it is here and it didn’t disappoint. Food and service was perfect, as we were talking to the manager we Explained that our daughter only got married last week and we were showing her new family around London. Upon hearing this a plate was brought out with, pickled egg, Gurkin and pickled onion etc for them to try which was so kind. Also our daughter and son in law where also given a poppies baseball cap, mug and coaster plus our grandsons were supplied with a paper chefs hat. Now if that was enough on top of the great fish and chips we had just eaten the manager supplied us with a complementary Lemon cello drink to try. To say that they went above and beyond would be an understatement, the food and service couldn’t be faulted, well worth a visit and we cant wait to go back again.

If you like good food, great atmosphere and incredible service this is the place to go. We loved our fish and chips, but nothing compares to the guys who served us were sooooo nice! Friendly and helpful and makes you feel so welcome. I love oldies music and if you do to, go there. There is constant music on, 40s, 50s, 60s - so much fun. Unfortunately due to current situation the usual live music and dancing is not happening, but we will definitely be going back once this is happening! After a couple of disappointing previous visits - particularly last spring - they have greatly improved the quality and are now serving top-notch Cod & Chips. They fry fish to order and if you are there at the right time, you get super fresh chips. Cod is super fresh but small. Chips are definitely the best in London. They are flavourful, crispy outside and fluffy inside.The service is polite, but the waiting for food to arrive can be unreasonably long. The price keeps going up and with their service charge of 12.5% on top of it, the fish size doesn't offer a good value. I wish the portion is bigger.

Came here after ages. Always deliver. As you can guess from the name fish and chips! They do have a few other options too but come for the fish or seafood and chips! It's what they are known for. Portions are huge. Diner style restaurant. Cool atmosphere, great music. Staff are always really pleasant and friendly. Good service. Food comes out quickly but it's freshly made and piping hot. I love the way they serve the dipping sauces in small jars which is more hygienic. Clean. There is a take away part as well. Very quiet on a Friday evening but it was post-lockdown COVID-19 pandemic, a warm evening so guessing most people were in outside bars. The calamari rings and chips were divine. Loved it. Would recommend.

Have been to Poppies on many occasions. Fish and chips are always cooked fresh and service is superb. Best chip shop I have been to in London. No other compares to it.

We'd intended to visit a 'beef dripping' chippy, but it had poor reviews, so, as we were in Camden, we went to Poppies on the recommendation of my companion. The food was cooked freshly, taking about 10 minutes. Although we chose the small portion, it was pretty big, and certainly enough for us. The quality was excellent, with light batter, nice fish and exquisite chips. It was served on a cardboard container with wooden knife and fork, so zero plastic. The service was warm and polite. I'd definitely go back, and probably in the near future.

Fish was good, had nice big flakes but the chips were terrible, tasteless. Very overpriced. Would not return. More of a tourist trap than a proper fish and chip shop.

Having now been to Poppies in Camden Town a few times I am always amazed at the quality of the Fish which is beautifully fried. The Chips are the best I have had. Realmente no pude superar los precios para ser honesto. La comida no era nada especial, pedí bacalao grande y patatas fritas pero me sirvieron un pequeño eglefino y patatas fritas. Por 20.Piense en ese precio.. El servicio era estándar. Dopo un giro per Camden Town, ci fermiamo a pranzo da Poppies, locale su due piani piccolino ma caratteristico. C’era un po’ di coda per entrare ma non abbiamo aspettato molto, anzi. Le cameriere avevano i pattini a rotelle, ed è subito anni 50’ ! Siamo stati qui perché cercando su internet dicevano fosse il più buono fish & chips di Londra, non ne ho assaggiati altri quindi non posso fare paragoni, posso dire però che ci è piaciuto molto. Il pesce era fritto ma non unto, cosa non scontata. Le patatine buonissime accompagnate da salsine. Le porzioni sono abbondanti. Non potete non assaggiarlo

Ottimo come sempre, prezzo più che onesto. Consiglio di privare sia il piatto a base di haddock che quello a base di cod. Consiglio anche la salsina fatta di casa di salsa tartara da aggiungere per 50 pence. Personale cortese e attento, ottima ambientazione.

La masa del pescado era de color claro y dorado, no espesa y pesada como la que se encuentra en algunos lugares. . . . . simplemente PERFECCIÓN en CAMDEN! ! !Gracias al chef Mehmet y al gerente Halis, quienes brindan la experiencia completa de las amapolas en cada visita; la calidad de la comida es impecable y nunca deja de impresionar.Todo el personal lleva máscaras faciales y los asientos cumplen con las reglas de distanciamiento social.

Lors de notre découverte de Camden Town, nous avons été manger chez Poppies suite à de nombreuses recommandations. Nous sommes arrivés assez tôt et heureusement car le restaurant a vite été rempli. L'ambiance rétro des années 40-50 est extra : musique, décoration, uniforme du personnel, meubles,... C'était magnifique ! La nourriture y est délicieuse. Le plat typique est le Fish & Chips avec sa sauce tartare maison mais il y a d'autres choix : poulet, saucisses, calamars, fruits de mer,... Il y en a donc pour tous les goûts. Il y a une possibilité aussi de prendre à emporter.

We havent been to this fish and chip shop for some time, so thought it would be worth a trip from our home in Buckinghamshire, we have always had good service and meals here in the past and although a little expensive we were happy to visit again, we booked a table as they were always busy whenever we previously visited, they had a live band which was a bonus, although our meal was lovely we were very disappointed with the service or lack of service, we were listening to the band after finishing our meal but surprisingly were not asked if we wanted another drink nor asked if we wanted a desert, all of a sudden our bill was placed in front of us, we just carried on chatting amongst ourselves when a waiter came up to us asking if we were going to pay by cash or card? we were a bit bemused by this and said that we would pay when we were ready to leave, the restaurant was only half full so it wasnt as if they needed our table, half an hour or so passed and we were still not asked if we wanted anything else, (not that we did but that was besides the point,) again we were approached by another waiter asking if we were ready to pay, l explained that we had not been asked if we had wanted our drinks refilled or if we wanted a desert and felt that we were being rushed, he said that it would normally be down to the customer to ask , l said that this wasnt the case as we had seen a waitress ask an adjoining table if they wanted more drinks or deserts, he said that there were new staff and apologised , he asked if he could get us a cup of tea on the house but we had a train to catch so declined the offer, before we left we went to the loo there are only 2 toilets in the ladies loo one of which had the flush missing so could not be flushed, it was full of loo paper and the toilet was also coming away from the floor, it appeared that the floors and loos hadn't been cleand for some time. The fish and chips are so lovely in this restaurant and it would be such a shame to see it going down hill so to speak, l hope that this was just a one off although the place was unusually empty!!. I dont think we will be rushing to go back again.

Nous avons mangé chez Poppies pour essayer leurs fameux fish&chips et nous n’avons pas été déçus. Endroit original avec une décoration rigolote qui va d’armes de guerre à maquettes, tableaux et coupures de presse. Nous avons essayé le cod et le haddock, préférence pour le haddock me concernant qui est plus faim. Les frites moyennes, trop grosses pour moi et peu de sauce (supplément payant). Sinon personnel très accueillant On reviendra car le quartier vaut le détour

Je me rendais dans ce restaurant les yeux fermés au vu des commentaires précédents. Et j'ai été très déçue. Service accueillant et rapide, qualité du poisson plutôt bonne, mais l'huile de cuisson était rance et les plats étaient froids. Les frites et la tarte aux pommes pas assez cuites. J'ai été hyper déçue...

Don't be disappointed when the choice is limited in the evening!Take it for a good sign that the fish is always fresh and look forward to what's left - our cod & haddock were gorgeous.

My second time visiting Poppies in my recurring visits in Camden Town. The place is right in the heart of the booming markets and mix of tourists and locals strolling around the area.What got me back in the first place this time was the atmosphere. Poppies has got a rock solid concept going, showing its face already before entering the restaurant, with a redesigned classic London Taxi, turned into a Poppies commercial parked outside the front. Inside the restaurant, the place is plastered in seaman references from top to bottom, creating a nice, warm vibe, suited for the classic national dish. I had cod, a big beer, and fries. To go with it you get two small glasses with ketchup and tartar sauce, and of course lemon and vinegar. For my taste - there should be more tartar, and ketchup really. The fish itself was fine, - but not great. I've had better several other places in the UK, to be honest. The fries were great though, and the tartar nice and creamy. All in all a satisfying meal, in nice surroundings. I'm not sure I'm going back though. I think there are better fish in the sea in London Town.

Sono stato qui in coppia. Capitati per caso mentre eravamo in giro per Camden town. Ottimo fish&chips; cod(ne hanno due tipi), buono anche calamari rings con le fries. Abbiamo anche mangiato la apple pies che personalmente non è stata entusiasmante. In generale posto tipico, bello, camerieri gentili. Prezzo medio per un ristorante.

Pedimos lo que tienes que pedir en este sitio: Fish and chips de bacalao (tienes la opción de merluza). Hay dos tamaños, normal y grande. Nosotros elegimos los normales porque vimos que ya de por si tenían un tamaño razonable (14£/cada uno). Se puede pedir agua del grifo. En definitiva, está bastante rico y está recomendadísimo.

No dudes en venir aquí para probar este típico plato. Hay dos tamaños y con el pequeño ya tienes suficiente. El precio del Reg y el LRG es poco. También hay otros platos que tenían buena pinta. Aclarar que hay dos tipos de pescado Haddoux es el más fino y el Cod viene siendo bacalao y es más grueso. Estan los dos realmente buenos. Las patatas se notan que no son congeladas y te dan dos potitos con ketchup y mayonesa. La propina ya viene incluida en la cuenta.

Very nice food and quite romantic, it’s just a shame I was with my dad... The staff were a pleasure. It’s a great experience for tourists who want to have a British chippy. However, the only thing that was disappointing was the price. It was quite expensive.

We have eaten here before and loved it last time but we were disappointed this time. We got a seat, but my back was to the door and I got cold, I asked to move but they said they had no other tables which I am sure was not true as they have seating upstairs as well. We ordered a regular cod and chips twice but we were very disappointed with the fish. It was so small and looked more like something you would get from a freezer. It is not cheap in here do you expect to get a good size piece of fish but it never happened this time. I will not go back as I can get fish and chips for half the price in the same high street.

Tourist trap. Chips were chewy like cardboard, obviously not freshly fried. And the batter on the fish was so light nearly tempura. AND DRY. Not proper beer batter. Staff were pleasant and they serve beer is the only positive thing I can say

Looking for a good fish and chip place in London while visiting, I walked into Poppies last June for an early dinner. I ordered the fried cod fish and chips and it was so delicious! The cod was firm, yet tender, moist and flakey white! The breaded coating was golden brown and fried with a nice crisp!...my meal was so fantastic (see pics), that I actually ordered a second serving... I couldn't get enough!! ..and finally, the service from the staff was most excellent!! (they even let me get a group shot with cooks and my server that day). I just landed back into London a few hours ago (Sat. Jan. 11th) for a weekend holiday here, and will surely be making my way to Poppies in Camden Town tomorrow evening, for another repeat incredible Fish & Chips!!

Party of four. 3 cod, chips and mushy peas and one skate and chips. Large portions, perfectly cooked. Restaurant theme is 40/50s diner and I loved that the staff were dressed in retro head scarves, aprons, etc. Seated on the first floor where there is an area for live bands to play. The restaurant has a great vibe and service was excellent but I thought the prices a little bit high but this would not stop me returning! 2 beers, a brandy and a coke accompanied our meal. £105 all in.

I have been here with my girlfriend in December 2019. The location is nice and "British" and the waiters are very kind. The food is very nice (I was positively surprised by the mashed peas) and the portions are huge, we could not finish the chips! We also have been lucky and could enjoy some nice live music while having dinner. Recommended!

I'm glad we booked a table for lunch as the queue was enormous. We got a table fairly quickly and the cod and chips did not disappoint. Service was efficient and customers came and went quickly so the people who stood outside would not have to wait for long. I am sure that Poppies justifies its reputation but it is still not a patch on the Anstruther fish and chippies.

Après avoir testé celui de Spitalfields, nous avons renouvelé l'expérience au Poppies de Camden. Nous avons été très bien accueillis, avons eu la chance d'arriver au bon moment car une table venait de se libérer. Sinon, s'attendre à faire la queue dehors car c'est un endroit très prisé. Nous avons pris la 'Hot Seafood Platter' à partager avec des calamars et un fish cake. Tout le monde y à trouvé son compte. Les portions de Fish & Chips en taille standard sont largement suffisantes et le Daiquiri à la fraise est délicieusement traître ;-) Le choix en desserts est restreint mais offre suffisamment de choix si vous avez encore un petit creux à combler !

Vraiment le restaurant à faire pour notre premier et unique fish and chips, le lieu et authentique, le service de qualité et les prix corrects.

Ci siamo fermati a pranzo durante il nostro soggiorno a Londra, devo dire Ottimo cibo.

Ottimo fish & chips , pesce fresco molto gustoso non unto , molto buoni anche gli anelli di calamaro e salse , personale simpatico veloce e disponibile, location caratteristica.

Suite aux différents nous avons décidé de tester ce fameux fish and chips...la taille regular est largement suffisante...le poisson n’est pas sec du tout et non gras, les frites sont vraiment excellentes! Nous avons quand même patienté 30 minutes pourtant à 15h mais nous ne regrettons pas! L’ambiance est chaleureuse et vintage.

Fish and chips bon mais sans plus, pas le meilleur que j’ai mangé mais pas le pire non plus...service rapide, prix pour 2: 27,90 livres + 3,48 de service soit 31,38 livres (2 grands verres d’eau gratuits). Endroit sympa mais il y a probablement mieux dans le quartier

Nous sommes venu pour suivre la réputation... Pas sûr que nous revenions... le poison était sec, servit sans petit pois... nous avons mangé de meilleurs fish and ships dans Londres... à vous de voir pour l’ambiance...

De passage à Camden un déjeuner en famille dans cet établissement.
