2 of us came last week and had a small breakfast, medium tea and a latte. Breakfast was really good, tasty. But £25 total. This morning, we have come and had a hot chocolate and small slice of carrot cake, which was nice - and a fruit scone and latte, £17 total, which was ok. I asked for cream tea, but got told the scone didn't come with cream but it could be added, which I did. Not sure how much extra a tiny pot of Rodders is. I wasn't impressed on this visit unfortunately so I won't be back for food again. Maybe a tea/coffee, but not food. Staff are pleasant enough!

The food is absolutely fantastic, hot freshly cooked and served promptly. But, it is so expensive I was charged £28.00 for a sausage sandwich and sausage, egg and double bacon and two coffees. We actually had 4 coffees but the first two were cold but we still got charged. We often go to Waitrose in Swaffham or Arbuckles in Downham Market where the food is just as good but a fraction of the price.

Known as Pickle & Pie. Stopped to have breakfast and can only say positive things. Food excellent with great vegetarian and vegan options. Dog friendly. Staff helpful and accommodating :) we went for the main breakfast and the vegetarian sausage in a roll along with and extra sausage for the dog!

A family member and myself had the steak pie, it was 90% carrot with only 4 small pieces of beef. I had this last year and it was full of beef. It would be better to increase the cost of the meal or rename it carrot and beef pie. My dessert mint aero sundae, had less mint aero in than last year. Disappointing.

Food was very poor, menu was a scrappy dirty bunch of papers. Really wouldn’t bother. Tabnabs, The Acorn Hut or the Goat Shed are much better.

The place is definitely under new owners and is Clean, light and sunny interior. Excellent range of basic lunch or breakfast food plus a small portions menu. The chicken filet burger I had was lovely and Brenda’s beef burger was thick and tasty. Chips were excellent and the onion rings had a crispy batter and real onion interiors. An excellent range of sandwiches and Ploughman’s. Waitress service to the table was great too. The place seems to be associated with some other tourist attraction but it wasn’t clear what. It is obviously popular with families. The Pickle and Pie makes a great alternative stop just off the A47 at Yaxham.

Let me just say that the food was generally OK and the service from Debs was excellent. The thing that ruined it was the response from Mel when my wife explained that the lasagne was so hot in the middle that she burnt her mouth. We weren't looking for a refund or discount, she just wanted a sincere apology and to know that they would try to make sure that this was something that wouldn't happen again. Mel was immediately on the defensive pointing out that the food had to be served piping hot, and only offered a half hearted apology as an after thought. The food does need to be 63 degrees centigrade or more, but not so hot that the customer burns their mouth and is unable to finish their meal. I would suggest that anyone ordering the lasagne or something similar lets it stand for a couple of minutes before eating it just to be sure. Also the garlic bread appeared to have been reheated not fresh as it was very chewy.

After being encouraged to visit poppies ,I was very disappointed with the Sunday Dinner ,the stuffing ball was so hard I had to soak it in the gravy, and the Yorkshire pudding was burnt and dehydrated, I'm sure that other meals might be better

We have been in for light meals a number of times. Even at times, when very busy they find places for the two of us. The staff are very good, the food we ordered was delivered quickly and enjoyable. Although some menu items are time-limited just ask and generally will be provided. Open every day with times for themed meals. Worth a call or check the web site

A family of 4, we arrived without booking, on a sunny weekend lunchtime. It was clear the place was very busy, but we were greeted by the assistant manageress Nicola, who despite being busy, was charming and helpful - finding a table to which she showed us. We waited quite a while and eventually I went to the bar to ask for some service. The waitress who turned up was the opposite of Nicola; treating us as though we were an inconvenience and she had 'drawn the short straw' in having to take our order. This wasn't just my opinion, and was commented upon by my daughter & wife. She really is in the wrong job...... Even allowing for how busy it was, over half an hour later I needed to chase our meals because we had an appointment that afternoon. The waitress had ignored us since taking our order and I went to seek out Nicola. Again, she was friendly & helpful, coming back with an E.T.A. of 3 minutes. And she was spot on. The food was superb. We all thought how excellent is was. I just wish we had time for dessert, but due to the delay that was a pleasure we had to forego. So, if you are a 'foodie' this really is the place for you. If you place service high on your list, you will be taking 'pot luck' as to who you get and may be very disappointed. Such a shame for such a lovely establishment.

Feedback for Room 1 in this hotel. Pros: Quick check-in Big room Comfy bed (even though there was folded cardboard beneath the legs of the bed) Nice view out of window Friendly staff (mostly) Breakfast buffet + cooked breakfast was delicious Cons: Very dated decor in general Mouldy dead wood on the window ledge TV smart features do not work Dodgy key lock Plumbing issues (temperature of shower does not regulate) Damaged pipes in bathroom No window left open for my arrival (scorching hot day) HEATING WAS ON FULL when I arrived No 3 pin sockets beside bed! Not good for people with Sleep Apnoea I really feel like this place rests on its laurels somewhat, given Thetford is the home of Dad's Army, with the Bell (Greene King) hosting the Dad's Army cast in the late 60s and 70s. I think Greene King know this and assume guests won't care - but we do. I liked the Dad's Army touch in and around the pub. However, overall, not great value for money in my opinion.

Lovely, genuine old thatched pub, with lovely staff. The food could not be faulted and the portions were more than generous. Definitely intend to return.

Staff with bad attitude!! Rang up around 5:30pm and were told we didn’t need to book we would be fine as a walk in as we weren't sure exactly what time we would get there. We arrived to be told there is a long wait for food, ordered 4 Pepsi’s which were all flat, we complained and the waitress never returned, she told us that there were 3 food items were unavailable on the menu, 30 minutes had passed so I went to the bar to swap my drink, got given another flat one so asked for a bottle out the fridge. We had waited at the table for over an hour for the waitress to come back to us to finally take our order to tell us that there were only 4 options left and they had ran out of food. We chose to leave, they wanted payment for the 4 flat Pepsi’s (only one got replaced) which we refused as we had waited for over an hour (9:30pm by this point) to be told there was no food, we raised the issue to be given attitude by two ladies behind the bar, they said ‘they need to prioritise bookings first’, surely you take orders in the order people arrive?? even though they told us we could walk in no problem and never thought to tell us the food had ran out during the time we were waiting, we were so hungry from being at the race track all day. The table next to us had half of their order missing and were still sat waiting for the rest of their food when we left. Awful, thank god we’re not locals!
