Excellent for an over night stay, comfortable beds, clean facilities and friendly staff. Only comment for us was the time we had to wait for breakfast to be cooked. 45 mins from sitting down to getting food from kitchen. This could probably be quicker with a bit of thought and planning.

We had an evening meal here and it was absolutely fantastic. Beautiful food, and the service was great! Only thing was that the steak didn’t come with any sauce like peppercorn etc, but it did come with mushroom ketchup which was lovely - but that’s not a big thing for us! We’ll definitely come back if we’re ever in the area☺️

We arrived at 1.45 and there was a private party occupying the entire pub. We asked if we were able to check in and were told in no uncertain terms check in was three pm. The manager was extremely rude. We purchased a drink and found a corner to sit in, there was no WiFi or phone signal. After overhearing one of the party guests saying “we’re leaving soon as this will get messy later” we decided to forgo our stay.

Together with a few friends we thought we’d take the plunge and try The Hopton Crown’s Burn night celebration. A three course meal with a whiskey. I have to admit that the haggis , neaps and tatties aren’t my usual go to food. But wow what a meal. ( I ordered the veggie option) it was stunning. Soup was creamy and delicious. The main course was rich and very very tasty. The dessert was perfect sweet and a little tart with the fruit. Everyone who ate thoroughly enjoyed their meal and in fact some three days later still talking about it. The whiskey connoisseurs would probably have frowned at the tipple served. Whiskey and Cointreau. As most of us weren’t huge whiskey drinkers this suited us well. And it was surprisingly delicious and quaffable. But I’m sure the single malts they have at The Crown would have been great accompaniment for those whiskey connoisseurs. The staff were , as always , attentive with great service the food piping hot. I hope they they celebrate Burns night again next year. I will definitely be going again. Photos of veggie Haggis ( I started to eat it then realised I’d not taken a photo ) and dessert.

Dreadful breakfast experience. Slow to serve and we only asked for tea and American pancakes. Took ages to even get the tea and the pancakes eventually arrived but they were dry and rubbery like from a packet. Had to request maple syrup to go with them. No orange juice and the toast/cereals table was empty and clearly not being replenished for 9.00am breakfast guests. Poor service. Left to get a proper breakfast on our travels. Room was fine however.

We had a lovely relaxing stay. My Mother especially liked staying in the cottage room, although she could have done with a step to reach the wardrobe hanger! Breakfast was delicious. One of the best we have had. Love the coffee!!! Staff were lovely, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Drinks in the bar were great with a good choice. The beds were very comfortable. plenty of parking. We will hopefully be returning in the future. It is also handy for a number of places, i.e. Ludlow, Leominster, Kidderminster etc.

We are currently staying here as mature couple with our young flatcoated retriever for three nights . The room is outstanding , the breakfast is of great quality , and we knew the Crown was on,y offering a limited menu as waiting for a new chef , but we enjoyed our fresh cooked fish and chips , minted crushed peas and home made tartare sauce on our first evening . Great news that a new chef is now engaged . We will return .

We went Sunday 2nd July for a roast dinner. We were taking my mother out for lunch. Our meals arrived and my husband and I immediately sent them back as they were cold and the potatoes were rotten. My mum said hers was fine as she didn’t want to complain but I could see that hers was cold too and the potatoes were covered with black spots, she was being polite as it was our treat. When ours returned, it seemed the exact same meal, still cold and still with rotten potatoes. I was told they’d run out of Yorkshire puddings but 5 minutes later a table opposite had Yorkshire puddings ! I could not eat mine, I complained to the manager and she tried to defend that there was nothing wrong with the potatoes (I will upload a photo if possible) Honestly it was disgusting. The waitress let slip that the chef had walked out! There was also an event going on. We paid but felt aggrieved and complained via email but did not get any response. We would still like our money back! At 18 pound for a main, I feel it was dealt with very badly. We spent 40 pound on drinks so all would have not been lost if they’d refunded our food. We all went home to eat. Awful!

The food arrived cold and the potatoes were off, we complained and they took it away and it looked like they brought back the same food and it was still cold. I complained that the potatoes were off (we have a picture of a disgusting one) but the manager proceeded to argue with me that they were fine. It was awful.

Met for a family lunch, pre booked for 12. Sadly the food was shocking. The starters were poor, overcooked and very small portions. Those that had the ciabatta’s were in for further disappointment. Only 2 of our party had proper ciabatta the rest had only what could be described as stodgy bread rolls, the fillings were below standard. The chips were definitely oven chips and served lukewarm. We were reluctant to complain as some of our party were staying overnight. However I did mention to the waiter that the meal was very poor. He thanked me for bringing it to his attention. I then ordered tea and coffee and thought that at the very least this would be complimentary, sadly this never happened and the bill arrived with no deductions. If it had been under different circumstances I would have complained further. I would say the servers were polite and that is the reason I’ve given the review 1 star. I will not be returning.

We stayed for two nights to explore Ludlow and the surrounding area. We had our dog with us which meant we had to eat our meals in the bar area (which we were more than happy to do). However the locals who were also able to use the bar seemed incapable of forming a sentence without using the ‘f’ word about six times in each sentence!! Such a shame as the staff were lovely and the service was good. It’s the only pub for miles so it will probably always be popular with locals but if you’re looking for a nice, quiet getaway this is probably not it (unless the management sort out their clientele!!)

We arrived around 3-4pm. We decided to eat in the lounge not the restaurant. I saw a waitesess bringing out fish and chips which look lovely, so that's what I ordered. My partner wanted the a belly pork roast. My partner requested crunchy crackling, which the waitress said we would get. Mine arrived and was great, crunchy batter and a large piece of fish. If I had to be critical for the price I would of expected real chips, but otherwise everything was fine. My partners arrived absolutely no crackling it had been cut off. The gravy had already been poured over the meal. On the plate there was 2 strips of parsnips, which my partner really dislikes. The waitress asked if we needed any sauces, and I requested salt and vinger, surprisingly neither was on the table. I also requested some tomato sauce. In my opinion we waited a considerable time and I probably ate around a third of my meal. Overall the fish and chips were very nice. I would suggest going forward for the roast lunch customers are asked what vegetables are required to avoid food and also that customer don't have items on their plate that they don't like. Regarding the crackling, If it wasn't available the waitress should have come back and stated it wasn't available and give the option of something else. The fish and chips were very nice. The roast dinner was average and a number of simple improvements could you been made to the meal and the service.

Lovely dining room and staff. The Sunday lunch food however was sooo disappointing. Firstly, ithe menu was not representative of the menu advertised on the website. I had decided beforehand that roast turkey would be lovely, as I don’t eat red meat, however it wasn’t available on the day so I ended up with just roast veg. The piccalilli served with the starter was so heavy on the mustard it was practically inedible. The main course veg were all undercooked and lukewarm, and the beef was so tough my husband tried various knives and gave up. On the plus side the yorkshire pudding was great. Decided not to bother with dessert and left. Apparently chef had left and the kitchen was in the hands of very inexperienced cover. Will not be back.

The dining room is rather sparse and unwelcoming although the staff were very pleasant and the service was good. The food was extremely tasty and well presented but the portions were mean, and expensive for what we were served. The starter we both had was scallops and smoked mackerel which consisted of two small scallops, a tiny piece of smoked mackerel which had been cooked and a tiny blob of sauce. It was tasty and well presented and cost £9.50 per portion! My main course was duck breast which was perfectly cooked but very small, a portion of potato the size of a fifty pence piece, two pieces of stem broccoli and half a carrot. My husbands fish was excellent and reasonable size but the rest of his meal was again small. I had creme brûlée which was perfectly cooked but served in the tinniest ramekin dish which was then only half full, three spoonfuls at most. It was served with a huge thick dry shortbread biscuit, perhaps trying to compensate for the lack of volume elsewhere. It’s such a shame that excellent food is served in this penny pinching way. I do not expect mountains of food and obviously prefer quality to quantity, but this was just mean. We had two starters and main courses as described, one dessert and two coffees, a glass of house wine and two pints of Guinness and the bill was £88.90 For this type of meal that is what we would expect to pay , anything up to £100 but for that we would expect a reasonable sized portion, these sizes were tasting menu sizes and because of this it was very poor value. I did mention to our waiter when we left that the food was vey good but all of the portions were too small. I doubt if we will return.

That didn’t stop it being one of the most delicious pub lunches we’ve ever had! The lunch menu is excellent. We selected the beef and pork belly and both were perfectly cooked and tasted exquisite. The desserts were equally as good. The pub has clearly worked hard to keep tables distanced whilst maintaining a cosy and welcoming feel. booked a table for myself and a small group of friends for a Saturday night. We were staying in Cleobury Mortimer for the weekend and this looked like a really nice pub to go to for dinner. It turned out to be a really odd experience. Nobody seemed to be particularly interested in the customers and we had to work really hard at every point of our meal to get noticed and get some service. We were not greeted upon arrival, and we were left hanging around not really sure where we should be. Once we were seated, we were left for over 20 minutes before anyone even came to take a drinks order. It was a reasonable amount of time for the food to come out, but we had issues with two of the meals, yet nobody came back to ask us if everything was okay (as I would say is standard restaurant practice) and even though we tried to attract attention, it was like we were invisible. The staff did a really good job of never looking in our direction or walking around really fast and looking busy with other things. Once we'd finished eating, we were left sat with our empty plates in front of us for nearly half an hour. The staff were either somewhere else entirely, and when they did pop up they made a big show of being incredibly busy getting the other tables ready for their breakfast service whilst keeping their heads down and just simply not looking anywhere near us or acknowledging our presence. It was so bizarre. There were only 4 tables, including us, in that night and one of them left not long after we arrived. So they weren't rushed off their feet - they just didn't seem to want to talk to us. Once they finally came to collect the plates the two people who'd had issues with their meals decided not to comment as we were just totally fed up by this point. Not that it mattered, because the waitress didn't ask how our meals were anyway. Some of us decided to have dessert, and again, we were just left alone once finished. We needed to pay and leave as we had a taxi booked, but there was no one to speak to. Then, the bar man came through and rather gruffly said "Last orders, ladies", (at 10:15pm but nevermind). It just felt like we were an inconvenience and they wanted to get everything shut down. So we asked for the bill, but we were overcharged so we had to sort that out before we could leave. We got in the taxi and related our experience to the driver, and he said it wasn't the first time he'd heard bad things about this place. So overall it wasn't a great experience. There aren't many options in this area, so if you do go here, make sure you leave plenty of time for sitting around being ignored, and hide your own bottle of wine in your bag so you can have more than one drink all evening.

Waitresses were very lethargic and aside from bringing our drinks and plonking down the food we had no service. No one to feedback to, no one asked how the meal was. The waitresses seemed to be in another room or chatting focussing on set up for breakfast! No warmth in the small amount of service we did have. Just after 10pm a guy from the bar with no cheer told us 'last orders at the bar'and just walked off! There was only us in this area of the restaurant. When our bill arrived that was wrongThe food was OK but aside from a great play list there was zero atmosphere. Superb modern decor & clean but that's nothing without good staff right? To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Pub looks very good, the refurbishment is very good. Menu at Christmas time time looked really good so we went with friends. Menu has gone from restaurant food to pud food. Not that I mind that, if it's good pub food. But you don't charge restaurant price for small, less than average pub food.Started were ok, although ladies said the sauce was missing with bon bons. Mains.... Well this is where the let down began for me. Fish & chips, well more like a mini fish, 9 chips and a thimble full of mushy peas. Not worth the price. Now to the pie, well a stew with puff bit of pasty on the top of it. To me it's not a pie. It was ok but presentation was poor.Saving grace was the lemon sole, looked nice and was very good. Puddings were average but it's a shame none of them were homemade. Now the really good bits, the 2 girls waiting on were friendly and helpful. We will try it again but not till something is changed. Manager said new chef was starting soon so let's see how that goes. The bar side is cosy and good selection of drinks.

came here for my mothers birthday. All ordered our starters, all of them came out bar my dads, 10 minutes later, the waitress came back to ask if he had ordered a starter to which we said yes, after nearly all of us finishing our starters, my dads starter eventually arrived. Most of us were going to order steaks, asked what sauces they had available, to which we were told none, not sure what sort of restaurant doesn't have sauces for steaks, to which a few of us said no then we didn't want them as would be very dry. I had the chicken and bacon pie, which was lovely but the sauce was very peppery, to the extent i couldn't finish the pie as all i could taste was pepper, the peas that came with it were so overdone they looked grey, and all our chips seemed to be already salted. Really let down by this meal as had such a lovely meal at the baiting house.

Having lived locally for nearly 20 years we often go out for a meal during the week. On this occasion we decided to try the Hopton Crown following its recent refurbishment. We have had many enjoyable meals at local pubs in and around Cleobury Mortimer, all of which have offered excellent value for money. The menu here is very expensive - this is not an issue if the food/experience matches. My wife ordered a ribeye steak at £24.95. When she asked for a sauce, she was told there was red or brown, as the only options!I asked about the pie of the day ( which required the waitress to go and find out what it was). When I asked for some gravy to accompany it, she said this would be a supplement but there was none available. The young service staff were polite and keen but clearly not trained to a level to support the prices charged. The food was actually very nice but to me the steak should have been £15.00.There was little ambience inside and we were rushed to order. The meal arrived very quickly afterwards. The entire experience lasted less than 30 minutes, from entering the building to leaving (one drink and main course each). The bill was just short of £50.00.To summarise, decent food at top restaurant prices with a McDonald’s experience. We left feeling a little ‘cheated’.

Typical Sunday roast of beef or turkey for most of us but I was hoping for something without meat. Very quiet at lunchtime....inevitable after the Xmas/New Year binge. A limited menu, but the steak and fish'n chips were both excellent. There is current trend for tarting up bread and butter pudding ....my old Mum would turn in her grave, but the end product was good enough however the crust was very 'firm'. Decent selection of wines by the glass. The regular chef was on a no doubt well earned leave, but his stand in did a good job. This place is fairly local to us and we'll be back to sample the evening service.

Lovely country inn between Kidderminster and Ludlow. The food is plentiful and excellent and the service attentive without being overbearing. The early bird menu is quite extensive and offers wonderful value for money.

We visited the crown for the first time for lunch. Was greeted by a very friendly and helpful Claire. We had cream of mushroom soup to start and my husband said it was one of the best he's tasted. The pork and apple pie was delicious, though next time I will ask for the gravy separately because I don't like too much. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked to go back and stay B&B so I can enjoy breakfast too. A very pleasant and helpful Shaun saw to our booking. We're looking forward to our next visit. Well done Shaun and claire.

The range and quality of the Food was very good, Staff -helpfulness, Local Beer and especially the Value for Money were 5 star! We tried the Soup of the Day several times, various main courses (fish & Chips, Steak Medallions, Rolled Pork Belly Sunday roasts) were excellent. We were full most nights, but the night we had a dessert (Apple pie & custard) was very good.

This is a lovely country pub restaurant that serves good food in a warm a friendly atmosphere. Their is warm welcome on arrival in the small bar area which is warmed by a roaring log fire. Drinks are reasonably prices as is the food, especially if you take the lunch time or early bird (6-7:30) special menus.

As part of a wowcher deal we had a beautiful 3 course meal at this lovely restaurant. The chef uses locally sourced game and meat and expertly works these local delicacies into scrummy meals. My husband had the beef pie and the meat was so tender that it melted in his mouth. With a rich gravy and lovely fresh veg it was lovely.I had the lasagne, which again was obviously home cooked and very tasty. The chips that accompanies this were nice and chunky. We both had the sticky toffee desert and were not let down, as again, another very tasty home cooked treat.Would very highly recommend!

Went this evening with my family, the service was very slow, we had to wait nearly half hour in between starter and main and it wasn't even that busy! When the mains did arrive we had gone past the hungry stage, we had to send my daughters meal back as it had lots of stuff in it which was not mentioned in the menu, had it been we would not of ordered it for her. The staff we nice and friendly but very slow and didn't see them around much, very disappointed with our visit and will not be returning.

We called here after walking Clee Hill on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was busy and had a nice vibe. We chose two of the specials, the Duck and the Sea Bass both were superb and followed by excellent value sweets of Tiramisu Gateaux and Pecan Pie.Service was superb from the young and very friendly and professional staff. Well done and we will definitely be back!

The a la carte menu is fairly expensive but the early bird menu offers a reasonable £12.95 2-course alternative with a reasonable subset from the full menu.We ate for three successive days whilst staying at the Crown without needing to repeat ourselves. The Pie of the day did not change during our stay (steak and ale) which was a minor pity!

Something that rarely happens, my wife and I chose the same food. The menu was a fixed 3 course with a reasonable selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. For starter we had the advocado with smoked salmon which was served as a roulade. This was perfectly blended accompanied with a small salad. The main course was fillet steak with a delicious brandy and pepper sauce, well cooked fresh vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes.Desert was pears poached in red wine with a drizzle of chocolate sauce.A well thought out menu, excellently cooked and served by a very friendly young lady. Our only regret is we did not order a bottle of red wine to accompany, but we were drinking fine ale and cider and did not wish to mix drinks.

Arrived for a Groupon stay, as I beleive so was everyone else! Simon (front of house) was very enthusiastice and informative. We had to upgrade to the poachers restaurant for our eveing meal as the alternative was early bird up until 7.45pm, which was a tad earlier so we paid the upgrade suppliment of £10 each. There was not much choice on the Table D'hote menu but the food was not bad at all.The room was very basic but we managed, that said breakfast was dissapointing the bacon was anaemic, the chipolatas were tiny, and the mushrooms boiled, the most flavour from this breakfast was the salt and pepper. The waiting staff were more interested in other things like chatting at the bar and during evening service the young lady with the long brown cardigan played with a couple of dogs that a local couple had with them, then went off to serve guests with washing her hands, Nice! In the morning both the young ladies wore either long sleev cardigans or fleeces during service which is a contravention of hygiene regulations. So overall either Simon needs to get a grip of training his staff properly or move on to somewhere where his enthusiam can make a real impact and be appreciated..The place was tired so we wont be returning any time soon.

Stopped at this pub for lunch at 3.30 ish on a Sunday afternoon. I think the lunchtime (Valentines day) rush had gone as we were the only people eating. Although there were people drinking in the bar area which gave a bit of background atmosphere, the eating area was obviously a bit lifeless, and I think the decor and furniture could do with a bit of a spruce up. The food was ok, I had the beef & ale pie special, quite nice but a bit too salty, the meat was good quality and there was a good selection of veg and portion size was generous. My hubby had the roast which he liked. Kids had sausages which although were cooked all the way through were a bit pink on the outside which always puts me off a bit. Service was very friendly and attentive. I would say this pub is ok for a normal Sunday lunch, but not quite good enough if it was for a special occasion.

What a lovely warm welcome and a truly country pub. The food was fantastic and we were really delighted to have found this spot. We arrived with a voucher ( our way of discovering new places) and found the prices very fair and the quality of food very very good. Service was friendly, witty and attentive. It is quite out of the way but well worth a visit. We would love to try an overnight stay in the future.

We both had 1/4 chicken and chips to eat in and it was excellent. Everything was hot, the chips were not hard and there was plenty of meat on the chicken portion. Great value too!

Food is good, but becoming not worth the price. They seem to have a price increase monthly. £3.50 for a small chips is ridiculous & £8.50 for a kebab or fish wow! Portion size is also very hit and miss depending on who serves you. I think as they know the town doesn’t have much choice in to pay these prices they can get away with it. Also cash only can be abit of a ball ache as we often don’t carry cash. It’s a shame all this is putting me off from going there.

Great tasting great value still. Large fish and chips and curry sauce to share. I think it was £11.50.

Had the sharing platter and it was Devine, very generous portions for three of us! The service was ok. And we watched the food being prepared in front of us.
