A bit expensive, for what you get, a portion of chicken & chips for £7, a chicken the size of a robin & 8 chips

SO pleased having recently moved to the area that we have an amazing Chinese takeaway nearby. The hour wait in peak time and queue out the door and around the corner are an indicator everything is cooked fresh and to a high standard. The portion sizes are exceptional and such good value for money. Would suggest ordering via their website or phone and collecting at the given time. Highly recommend and we will be back. Thank you

The dishes were of a good size and really fresh and tasty, it was expensive but as a treat and the quality of the food I can't really downmark it.

Used to be lovely and we always used them for takeaway. Food now is poor /average at best. Portions are much smaller. Had some fried rice which was very overcooked and dark in appearance. Tasted horrible. Have recently had a Chinese meal in the town I work in which was far superior so will use them in the future. In a village like hook there's no competition unfortunately so people don't have a choice.

Absolutely shocking! Everything and I mean everything went in the bin. Total waste of money. Didn't know it had changed hands. What a shame as it used to be one of the best. Another one bites the dust!!! You have been warned.

Tasteless and bland! Meat chewy and fatty. No Chinese style flavours at all. Had to throw pancake roll away as it was inedible. Wasted most of the rest of the meal. So disappointing!!

Our first visit. We enjoyed our meal. Sweet & sour chicken balls (9 huge ones) and beef chow mein. The lady was helpful.

Always gotten food from here and so has my friends and family, food is really good and tasty never once had any issues with the food or the services

Shocking was freezing cold crispy chilli beef had no sauce just dry stale beef rice hard only good thing was chips and found 3 long hairs inside

Hit and miss, sometimes it's lovely, nice and hot and good portion sizes. Sometimes however the meat is stone cold or uncooked (chicken balls for example)

In the pased very good has changed hands and now awful like a frozen ready meal wast of money hope it changes hands again!!

Best place ever!! I come here every Fridays. Even though it is probably the busiest day, always get my food on time. Sometimes even gove you free drinks!!

Chicken tasted awful, very bad customer service , rude lady, take cash only but didn’t give information about how to get cash out just sat there and stared at us like we was idiots, over expensive for what you get. Went to loo this morning was not surprised at what I saw by the way I felt all night. Do not recommend the chicken balls. NOT REAL CHICKEN

Curly kale seaweed in a bed of sugar to maybe hide the taste of stale oil, a massive load of obvious sugar?! Shredded crispy beef with chilli, a mass of sticky ,soggy stuff stuck together and not the slightest hint of beef. Still, dogs didn't mind the sesame, prawn Toast. Overpriced and and gross .

A few years ago we lived in Hook and the Po Wah was consistently excellent, we moved away but not too far and maybe every few weeks we will be passing through and decide to get a curry or kung po meal. Usually the quality is up to standard but on the odd mid-week visit they seem to have had a different chef and the food leaves you feeling disappointed. Last Friday we called in and the two different curries were back on top form...when they are good it is worth taking the slight risk next time...

Well as the title states, the family & I fancied a Chinese for a change & as we hadn't been to the Po Wah for a while we thought we'd give it a go again. It really is a treat to buy a Chinese for the family these days as it isn't the cheapest thing to do, however it was my birthday so we thought, why not. To be honest I wish we hadn't bothered. The egg fried rice was tasteless, the shredded chilli beef didn't taste like it had any beef in it at all, just chillied battered bits, the prawn crackers just tasted oily & the honey ribs are sweetened with golden syrup. Admittedly the pork chow mein & beef with mushrooms was delicious, but you want & expect ghe whole meal for £40 to be at least palatable & it just wasn't. We had been warned by a few people to avoid this take away & I wish we had listened to their advise. Very disappointing!!

Finding a good Chinese in this area is hard! But I am happy to report the food was good and very tasty. Unlike a curry, Chinese takeaways are always so hit and miss and dishes can be inconsistent. I had 3 main dishes: Beef And Broccoli (9/10) Prawn And Cashew (9/10) Roast Pork Chinese style (2/10) When it comes to Chinese 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. Plus, it was great value! But you had to pay cash… Very suspicious.

I used to come here a lot prior to covid and always enjoyed the food. Just had a take away. Never has a part raw chicken food young before. Other food ok. Won't be back!!!

In 2019 the food was lovely and tasted like Chinese food with fresh ingredients used, now 2021 the food has no flavour and the quality of the food has gone downhill, especially the chicken which I'm sure is not chicken !! The only good quality is the online ordering which is easy and simple to use.

Takes hours and I mean hours for your food to get prepared as they are the only half decent place around everyone goes here need to be quicker with the food!!!

Just returned from collecting sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. Absolutely revolting, inedible. Chicken like rubber (reheated) and the rice just a lump of stodge and hard to break up, again a reheat. Do not give this place your money.

I think it is hit and miss with Po Wah. We had the best food this evening. Everything was crispt, tasty and fresh. It was not oily and eveything was fresh. Based on today, I would go back.

This place has improved so much since we last visited pre-COVID. The food was absolutely delicious and was not greasy at all. Loved it, can’t wait to have another take away soon!

My wife and I thought we would give Po Wah another chance tonight as Po Lee in Hartley Wintney was closed, absolutely terrible! Way over priced for the quality of food you receive. We will never be returning, even as a last resort. The absolute worse Chinese meal we have ever had.

Mushrooms are now even tinned, curry sauce tastes cheap and the chicken balls are just pure grease. Was coming here for years and never a bad meal until it was taken over, I haven't seen a Chinese person cooking the food for a long time, oh yeah and CASH only so they probably don't even declare much to the tax man and contribute to the country. Its a shame they have even gone substandard on the food products they sell. We will not be back until its taken over and better food is sold. Old Basing is great and not greasy at all and guess what a Chinese family own and run that !!!

Over the last year or so, following a change in ownership, Po Wah has steadily improved in the quality of its food. Always a favourite place of my wife's, I never shared her enthusiasm for the meals. However, this has now changed. Food is of very good quality and tasteful and choice is wide. We now go there more regularly and the introduction of online ordering and payment so much better than the "cash only" era prior to Covid. Keep up the good work.

This New Years eve we emailed an order for a take away at Po Wah at 6.30pm. We were told to pick up at 8pm. When arriving to pick up many customers were waiting and complaining that they had been waiting for ages, after waiting 30 mins we were told to go away and order will be ready in another 30 mins and they would call us. Meanwhile they were still taking order after order, despite the back log. At 9.15pm we were eventually called and told to collect our order 2hrs45mins after original order. By this time it was too late, there was no offer of recompense or anything else, despite highlighting that we would feed back on Trip Advisor. We live local and although the prices are high, we have eaten there before, however after this display of indifference and greed, we would advise people to seek an alternative.

Cannot understand all these bad reviews. We returned to Po Wah after 10 months because we stayed away due to Covid after always having had excellent food. We weren't disappointed. Service was brilliant and the quality of the food was great. Will definitely return.

Used the online ordering as they only accept cash and who wants to touch a cash machine in Covid 2020! Given a time to collect, we were prompt to arrive, too many people waiting inside so social distancing was being ignored. Food was 25 minutes later than the time we were told to collect. After chasing twice, food eventually was ready. No apology for leaving us standing outside in the cold for so long, zero f's given by counter staff. Food was average at best and a bit overpriced. The hunt continues to find a Chinese take away that is great tasting at a reasonable price and where customer service actually exists!

Decent food, awful service. We order from here regularly, at least every fortnight. We always order duck and pancakes for 2 people but they never give us enough sauce. We asked for more sauce, for which they wanted to charge £2.60 and as I ordered online, I didn’t have cash with me. Of course, they only take cash in store... The order was due to be ready for 19:55 and when it was finally good to go at 20:20, they even went to the effort of taking the extra pot of sauce out of the bag! They are so rude and ungrateful for anybody’s business, we will certainly make the effort to drive further next time for a more friendly experience.

Tried chicken curry (awful) Tried special fried rice (stodgy and bland) Tried noodles (cannot write anything good)I am amazed this chinese take away has kept going, since the original owners left it has absolutley crashed, the portions have got smalller, the prices have risen, nobody would mind paying a bit extra if the quality had remained the same or gone up! unfortunatley this chinese 'outlet' continue to subject the good people of Hook to awful Chinese food, OK if you want a filler after a good few pints, but if you actually want to taste the food 'some' maybe disappointed, the staff however are always happy, polite and smiling!

I can't believe this place has so many bad reviews- we love this takeaway! Always great quality chinese food. My Mother-in-Law always requests a chinese when she visits because the restaurants round her way don't match this one. We usually get the staples: aromatic crispy duck, sweet and sour chicken hong Kong style, crispy chilli beef, noodles, cashew chicken, etc and every time they are tasty.

My husband has been going to this Chinese regularly. I've never liked it but last time he went even he couldn't eat the food as it tasted 'funny'.He got Chicken Fu Yung and said the chicken had a weird texture and tasted funny. I've always thought food from here tasted awful so maybe his taste buds have finally woken up.Meals are total slop, full of grease, the chow main is a revolting pile of gloopy, greasy, slimy noodles. Makes me shudder to think of it.

Oh dear.. been coming her for years, went this week, and ordered very simply two chow meins, curry sauce and Egg fried rice. The chowmeins were basically gloopy soggy noodles, 1 or two soggy beansprouts and maybe 3 or 4 sliced onions. Most definitely cooked fresh, and was bland, tasteless, and well, a gloopy mass of soggy noodles. YUCK. the Curry sauce as again orangey gloop with no taste and a very odd texture. the rice had been cooked to mush and reheated several times. We binned most of it.Considering the price, we're no longer customers till they get sold on to people who give a cr4p about quality and customers.

Not great food to be honest, extremely bland for Western Chinese food. The biggest issue is the price to be honest, massively overpriced. If you want better food for almost half the cost then travel to Basingstoke.

Been going to Po Wah for years and it has always been fantastic quality. This is my first visit with the new owners and the food is awful - soggy, greasy with off flavours. Most of it ended up in the bin.

Really good food. I really enjoyed it. Friendly professional staff. Reasonable price. Was actually £16 cheaper than other Chinese I tried. A good alrounder I would recommend.

Well, we fancied a Chinese and thought we'd give our local takeaway another try and that really will be the last time. Service was ok but the food was just edible but only because we couldn't be bothered returning it. The chicken balls are HUGE which is great but they were so full of grease we had to cut them open and let them drain before eating. There was that much oil I could have refilled their deep fryer. Anyway, rice and prawn crackers were ok but that was it. Oh and I swear I saw one of the cooks with a big bushy black beard with NO net covering it so look out for "hairy balls"!!!!!!

haven't been here for ages, but today got a crispy chilli beef, chicken chow mein and chicken satay starter. the food was hot, was prepared quickly and the staff were really friendly. the actual food was good, some thigh meat in the chow mein which was a change. the chilli beef could be crispier, maybe with more sauce too, however its not a tiny portion. all in all, id say middle of the road. not somewhere id rave about, but no reason to not go there again either. cheers.

Well it just had to happen didn't it. My local Chinese has been taken over again and now they don't know how to cook. We had a Chinese chicken curry and wow, talk about YELLOW!!! We don't know what was being used but it looked awful and I reckon if I had switched the light out It would have been glowing. Tried again a week or 2 later. Chicken in Black Bean sauce,. Been having that from here for a while and it "WAS" really nice. NOT ANYMORE!!!!Why are they now adding chillis which is NOT great when I can't stand hot spicy food!!!!Message to ALL. Please double check your meals and what's being added to them. Ruined my meal completely.

My wife has never liked the Po Wah, but I was willing to give it another try - it's been several months since we last had a carry out from there. So, I convinced my daughter into trying some Chinese food for a treat. We asked for Duck in Orange and Lemon Chicken. When we opened them at home, we found that both dishes came on a quite large bed of pineapple chunks! We should have taken them back, but it was past our dinnertime, and we didn't want to have to go back again and either wait for the correct dishes to be cooked or go somewhere else. Won't be back to the Po Wah though.

Had a meal last night, it was terrible even though we’ve had food from here before. The sauce was too thick, the rice looked brown, the prawn toast was soggy and the pork was not crispy. We wasted £30 on this meal and we both only had a few mouthfuls. Had a bad night with our stomachs and all day today and still this evening. Really disappointed, will not be going back here again! Hook and Hartley Wintney now both have rubbish Chinese takeaways! We do we go now? These places need to buck their ideas up especially after all the new houses have been sold!

Spring rolls..large ones..excellent.. Curry sauce nice taste and texture.. Chicken chow mein..nice..but only 4 slivers of a chicken breast..sorry that's your down fall.. Had a Singapore chow mien from here a few weeks ago and it was the best I’ve ever eaten. A bit more pricey thank your average Chinese Takeaway but worth it on this experience.

Good Chinese overall, never had issues with them food is always hot and tasty. They only take cash for payment, and could do with expanding their starters/appertiser section on the menu, would recommend.

I wish I'd read these a couple of hours ago. Like many others, we've been using Po Wah for years. After tonight, we won't be going back. Food has really gone downhill. Wondered why it wasn't very busy on a Friday ... now we know. Yuk.

Being using take away for 30 years new owners have not a clue got some squid last night had to throw in the bin.. Will not be returning.

Good quick Chinese, good tasty and not expensive

We have been using th Po Wha on a very regular basis for many years and it's always been excellent. However It has recently changed ownership and the food hasn't so much gone down hill as fallen off a cliff! Its now bland tasteless slop! The ingredients are the cheapest nastiest rubbish it's possible to serve. We will not be going back until (please come back) the previous incumbents return and restore it to its previous excellent standards. I would strongly advise you to do th same!

What's happened - change of ownership? The standard of food is nowhere near what it used to be though the prices have increased. This business will only survive because Hook is growing. We need a new Chinese in the area - and soon!

Had not been for a little while and last time was not quite up to usual standard. This time much improved and back to its old self. Good portions, well cooked and tasty. Telephone service and given an accurate time to collect. Faultless

Nice food but well overpriced. Used to live in Central London and these guys are basically charging China Town prices... but at Hook's business rates! Owner must be laughing all the way to the bank!

The food is good and staff are friendly. Food is always prepared quickly and tastes freshly cooked. I am a happy customer so is my hubby :-)

Visit about six times a year. Usually very adequate. On this occasion did not measure up. Food watery and lacking in flavour. A busy Saturday night and this may have been a contribution. Last visit just after Christmas, when the quality was excellent. Been visiting here for nearly 40 years and am sure it was a one off. Will certainly use again.
