Sadly i felt this pub has gone off the boil a bit since our last visit and the change of management. A complaint about one of our party's food to the bar staff was met with indifference, she told the kitchen and the "chef" said he hadn't prepared that dish. No apology, no discount on the bill, no manager overseeing. I might not go back

Ordered Lamb Rogan Josh on the evening of Wednesday 28 May. I was rather disappointed with the meal as it had approximately 20 cardamom seeds (a meal cooked for six people would have far less than this). I ate the food after picking out the cardamoms as it was otherwise palatable. I showed the plate to the bar staff who spoke to someone in the kitchen. Apparently it was cooked by someone else and nothing to do with them. So basically it was tough luck with no hint of an apology and a disdainful indifferent attitude.

We waited half an hour for our starters to arrive and then another half an hour after our starters for our mains. There wasn't really an excuse as it was very quiet in the pub. We went to cancel our order after waiting an hour for mains but Paul (staff member) helped us and brought our food out right away. There were plenty of staff on but only he seemed to be doing that much. This use to be my favourite place to go fo food but tonight's experience has put a massive downer on it. Unless service improves we won't be returning anytime soon. Food was nice but not worth an hours wait. Before the new owners took over we would be in and done with 2 or 3 courses in around an hour.

Three of us dined at the Plume at 8pm on Friday 10th May. We had to wait over half an hour for our main courses which although I enquired about them after 25 minutes of waiting, I received no information as to the reason for the delay or when the food might arrive. Earlier in the evening I had a long wait at the bar twice to order food and drink. Many members of your staff walked past me without acknowledgement, offer to help or offer to serve. On asking one member of staff for some service she muttered something and disappeared. Later another member of staff tried to remove the plates of those that had finished their meal while the third diner had not finished - staff training? We have dined often at the Plume over the past 20 years, but unless things improve we shall not be visiting again. I would be interested to hear your response.

Well this place has gone downhill rapidly. I went there last night with a friend. We waited 10 minutes at the bar to buy drinks. There were 5 bar staff (1 female, 4 male) all chatting among themselves. One person was getting served. We waited until we decided to just leave. And the gents toilet near to the entrance was disguising. The bowl was filled to the top with toilet roll and the flusher was hanging out. We’ve loved this pub for years and gone there regularly. Really sad to see it go this way.

It's with great regret that I have to write this but I really really want everyone who reads this to take my advise and stay away to avoid getting over charged and more so to be left feeling very disappointed. For the past 2 weeks The plume of feathers is now under new management and id already heard of a few stories from regulars saying that they had bad experiences and will not be returning again and have found other pubs and restaurants to use regularly. I decided to give the newly managed pub a fair try and give the pub a chance as I used to visit regularly before it was taken over and always had a pleasant experience. I decided to take my daughter to meet my mum and dad there for breakfast this morning and as I walked to the bar area I already saw unhappy customers complaining about wrong orders, poor waiting times, and cleanliness. I cued up at the bar for 20 mins waiting to be served, once I got served I was told that there was no food for breakfast as they stopped the breakfast menu for the foreseeable future, so I asked for a coffee, coke and 2 slices of cake. The barman who served me was completely useless and clearly needed assistance with the till so another member of staff tried to help him and was completely useless too, they struggled for 10 minutes to process my order and I saw people getting fed up of waiting and they started to leave, with all of the messing around with the till I got over charged and I paid £17:00 for 2 slices of cake and a coffee and coke. My coffee never got made and I asked where it was, the bar man said it will be with you in a moment and thank you for your patience, at this point there was a cue formed all the way to the main entrance of people wanting drinks with only 1 person working on the bar while 3 members of staff were laughing and joking around the back. I waited for at least another 10 minutes and then decided enough was enough so went back to the bar to cancel my coffee and get a refund for it, I got a 4 pound refund and not a single explanation or apology. So basically paid 13 pound for 2 slices of cake and a half of coke. The manager clearly isn't cut out for the job and the pub is in need of a real good shake up. We could all hear the 3 staff around the back talking about how rough they felt from drinking the night before so basically hung over and not fit for work. It spoilt my family's morning meeting and we ended up going to BOD the titanic pub on tretham road to have our breakfast and drinks there in a much better environment. I wouldn't ever want anyone to experience what I did this morning and strongly recommend to anyone to stay away from the plume of feathers,if the management of the plume want to question me about this then ill gladly point out everything to them but this is something that they should already know how to rectify it's not rocket science

My wife and I visited the Plume in mid February, booking in at 7.30. The food was very good as was the service and overall we had a most enjoyable evening. The night was marred however when the dessert menus arrived about 9.10. Whereas the other three members of our party have a sweet tooth I prefer to finish my meal off with an americano and perhaps a liquor. However, when I requested a coffee I was told that this was unavailable due to the coffee machine being turned off! Bearing in mind that there were several other tables still eating I find this a little strange to say the least. I have emailed The Plume twice for an explanation but am still waiting for a response. Surely the machine should be left on until the last guest leaves or volunteer to make an instant coffee to keep your customer happy. The lack of response from The Plume is most disappointing.

Went to the Plume for a family meal and while our order was being taken, we mentioned my partner had an oat allergy. The fine print on the menu said to look at our allergen chart for more details but we were never provided one. The waitress instead dashed to the kitchen to ask if my partners starter was free of oats/contamination. Her main was never checked for the same allergy. However as we stated the allergy before hand, we believed the food would come out allergy free. As my partner was half way through her main, she began to have a reaction! Luckily we had antihistamines with us but my partner remained uncomfortable nonetheless. We were also missing a scotch egg with our starter and our beer was flat. As this was a birthday meal, nobody wanted to make a scene and put a downer on the night. However I felt very disappointed after our visit to the plume.

Beautiful pub with great food. I had the Cypriot halloumi fries (3 thick slices) to start which tasted delicious, even the salad did too which it came with. For the main, I had the oak smoked chicken & cider braised ham hock pie - one of the best pies I have ever eaten. The pastry was perfect and light. The pie was so full with filling it was definitely worth the money! The smoked cheddar mash was on top of the pie and the cabbage with the chicken velouté tasted lovely too. For dessert, I had the crème brûlée - this was delicious and a generous portion. The shortcake biscuit on the side was a nice accompaniment. I have only scored 4 stars for service as I had to wait for my dessert for a while whilst the rest of the table had theirs with no explanation. I had to ask a waitress (who I hadn't seen before) who looked clueless and then proceeded to carry on in & out of the kitchen without acknowledging what I had asked and then seemed to remember when she saw me looking at her. I heard her mention at the bar something about "was it put through on the till?" with still no one updating me with what had happened. This did seem quite unprofessional as I just felt ignored but my dessert did eventually come out. A member of my family was also charged £3 extra for katsu curry sauce that never came out with their meal but this was took off the bill when we mentioned it. Apart from this, the lady who took our orders at the table was lovely and friendly. The men who took us to our table, set it up and got us a child seat were also lovely and friendly. Overall, the food quality was amazing and I would definitely come back again to try some of the other dishes. There are toilet facilities which were clean. Car parking was free with plenty of spaces available. There is also an accessibility ramp to the main entrance.

We were served by Alfie and he always continued to make sure our drinks were full and had impeccable customer service skills, however he did look like the only person doing something as the rest of the staff were standing around chatting. We then spoke to a manager in a white t shirt because we complained about the noise coming from the bar area, once again he was extremely apologetic and very kind to us. I was a bit disappointed with the food as I was told they had ran out of the seafood linguine and the creme brûlée, but the standard of the food was nothing to complain about, big portions and very tasty! We were really looking forward to our visit having read reviews. We should have stayed at home. Positive large quantities. Negatives - arrived at 7 pm having booked a table for four. We all had starters, duck wrapped in oatcake and scotch egg, gave it 7/10. I ordered the seafood linguine special however was told they had sold out at 7pm? I opted for Katsu chicken as an alternative, daughter veg katsu. Both ok nothing special. Husband and son in law had steak awarded it 8/10. It seems only one person could take the drink orders and we had to ask repeatedly to order drinks as they kept forgetting to come back to take the order. Desert - three of us ordered crème brûlée however at 830 pm they only had one left? Pub is looking a bit tired could do with redecorating. The waiting staff were pleasant but all very young and were unable to expand with details of the drinks menu for example didn’t know what larger or cider they sold. Meal and drinks came just short of £200, sorry but we won’t be returning.

Food was very good but portions too big for us. Made good take-home parcels though! 6 of us seated in a nice cosy intimate space. We had to ask to be served as we had waited a good while and no one had come to us. The one big complaint was the attitude of the staff who served us, one at the bar and 2 at the table. They were quite sullen and not one of them was smiling or welcoming. One came and just pushed between us saying "I'll just remove your starters cutlery" as we weren't using it. She could have said an 'excuse me' or 'do you mind' . The young lad who brought food out from the kitchen was fine but then the plates were just whisked away without a smile or any "chat" such as "I hope you all enjoyed your meal". I would have mentioned these points to the manager but it was the manager who served us!!!!!

Honestly one of the worst meals out I have ever had. Should’ve left immediately when the restaurant manager (green dress and blonde hair) completely ignored and refused to address us when another member of staff asked her if there was a table available. We ended up sitting in the bar area, which was still very nice. All the staff were so miserable and it genuinely made me feel uncomfortable eating there. The menu sounds amazing, but we found the meals to be extremely overpriced. My boyfriend had the duck leg burrito and you couldn’t taste any duck in there, I had seafood linguine and all it came with was prawns. The triple cooked chips most definitely are not triple cooked 🤣. At no point did any member of staff come and check on us and even when our plates were collected with some meals barely touched- no effort was made to check what was wrong. I recommended this place for a family meal because of all the great reviews. We spent a lot of money on average food and absolutely awful customer service.

Food is always delicious here and good portions. The food is cooked fresh and to order, so there is sometimes a wait for the food, but better this way than bought-in, precooked meals. Good menu choice and the option for smaller plates, although these are always generous.

I had heard so much about this pub but found it a bit disappointing. One of the steaks we ordered was so over cooked, we had to ask for another one, which fortunately came back as ordered. My own meal was nothing special

A truly magnificent experience not even the gods in their vast pantheons could ever conceive. A sublime symphony of decadent cuisine and aristocratic esque customer service. Food arrives at speeds faster than Hermes could ever attain. Eyes water at the divine presence of such lovingly crafted food, and the nasal caverns erupt with excitement at the captivating aroma of fresh coffee. Customer service is an understatement. Even the most distinguished butlers whom are polished at their trade, serving the hollow hearts of our monarchy would fall to their knees in desperation of the magnitude and proficiency at which the staff nay, the elite beings reduced humbly to such a title, bring happiness and pure, unbridled joy to us peasants. A magnum opus of the restaurant/ coffee shop trade.

Garden and wildlife center - great. People with prams not made to feel welcome in the cafe by some of the staff.

Visited this place on a trip back to the UK to see family and one family member recommended it and booked a table. The first disappointment came when we were not given the table she had asked for and a move to something more acceptable only came after a fair amount of insistence and very grudgingly, on the part of the waitress. Drinks were slow in coming and when they did arrive, one of our group was given tap water when she'd very clearly ordered soda water. There had been a short conversation with the gentleman who appeared to be 'head waiter' about my vegetarian Thai curry and yet I was brought a prawn curry. Obviously that was taken away and the rest of the party began their meals while they were hot. After five minutes, I went to the kitchen to request something simpler to prepare, so that by the time my dish was brought, I wouldn't be eating alone, but was assured that my curry would be with me in minutes. When I returned to the table, the rest of the party were already complaining about the overcooked battered fish....the one dish that had been the reason for recommending we eat there in the first place! This wasn't a weekend visit and not really over-busy, but we obviously chose a bad night. We certainly won't be going again, but what is even more important is that our family member, who recommended it and is local, probably won't be either.

Waited an incredibly long time - no apology. Food was awful. We couldn’t wait to get out. Avoid at all cost!! A real shame as the location is good. We won’t return.
