Don't understand the reviews or the hotel's self description. We had 5 small plates between us: duck leg - very tender,as if slow cooked, but unbelievably salty/inedible; bream - very slightly overdone, which was acceptable, but very small piece & came with kale, also incredibly salty (why was it pre-salted anyway?). Stuffed peppers, greasy & filled with a very unappetising sludge- not sure what was in it. Fourth was a dish of ''deep fried new potatoes with sea salt, truffle oil & parmesan'' - dry to the point of inedible, incredibly salty, & no noticeable truffle taste. Lastly, ''fritto di portabello fungi'', ie. slimy mushrooms, which didn't work well with the taste of tarragon, in a very heavy batter. Waitress (very nice girl) said we weren't the first to complain about the saltiness. And I should add that my partner, recently in Florence & not usually one to complain (she's a ''glass half full person'' apparently), pronounced that there was nothing authentically Italian about this quite poor food. Wine was OK, but overall, for 94 quid, the whole experience was unhealthy & depressing.

Great idea for Italian Style Tapas. Food all tasted very nice. However, very disappointed with portion sizes for the price they are charging. Cheese board & Charcuterie at £12 each were very small & not even any bread or biscuits with the meats. In fact the meat/ham was just 4 small pieces. At £12 we felt really cheated by this. The cheese board wasn’t much better with 3 small pieces of cheese & not enough biscuits. With 2 drinks we paid £45 & left still feeling hungry & disappointed with the poor value. I did give the waitress some feedback on the Charcuterie dish but she just said their prices had recently increased. Unfortunately she didn’t get it, so I just asked her to pass the feedback on to management to either lower prices or increase the amount of food. Wouldn’t return it recommend !

What a gem! Really good service with delicious Italian food. The theme is sharing plates so we ordered six different dishes/breads/salads and loved them all. The freshly made gnocchi stole the show. A really good wine list, cocktails and other drinks too. The bill was very reasonable. They genuinely promote local produce and sustainability, encouraging people to try their vegetarian and vegan options. We will be back soon!

Lovely restaurant in the centre of Sherborne with easy parking nearby. We sat outside in the sheltered courtyard, which had a lovely Mediterranean feel to it. The plants / flowers were in abundance and clearly the owner takes great pride in this. Food is Italian style and comes in smallish tapas style dishes. Staff were all very helpful and seemed familiar with the menu options. The wine seemed to be very reasonably priced and we liked being able to buy a 500 ml carafe of wine rather than a 750 ml standard bottle. The food is 'served when it is ready' so this style of meal may not be to everyones liking. The home made tiramisu desert was 'to die for'. Prices were slightly higher than expected but this probably reflects the difficult, high inflation times that we are currently enduring. We will certainly return in the near future. Nearly a 5* but not quite sure how it would have been for atmosphere, if we had eaten inside

This was my local when I lived in Sherborne and spent many drunken nights here. It couldn't be a better location at the bottom of the high street with views of the Abbey, and has some great history (it was actually used as mortuary by the abbey in the past!) Sherborne has some great pubs, but this was always mu favourite.

Lunch in the open at 14°C has to impress and this so very nearly did. The service was superb, and most of the food was good to. The whole atmosphere makes this an experience to remember but focaccia really doesnt keep well, and this was obviously yesterday's. Picky I know, but when you pay £3.50 for 4 ittle bits of bread it would be nice if they were fresh.

Very nice dining experience with an interesting menu. I particularly liked the sea bass with fennel. My companion enjoyed the summer herb risotto. Good service.

Large, busy pub, opposite the Abbey near the centre of town. Friendly staff, and a good food offering. Worth a visit.

My daughters from California stay here when they visit and love the place. The food is excellent as is the accommodation. The rooms are large and very good value.

We've eaten here several times and it's always been very good, but yesterday was outstanding. We had a vegetarian in our party of 4 so we ordered 80% veggie dishes. Every plate was delicious especially the raw cauliflower dish. The sole was amazing. Sitting outside in the courtyard in glorious sun was the icing on the cake. Totally recommended!

We came with friends as we had all been gifted afternoon tea, and chose to visit this tearoom. We booked just over a week in advance. What a great choice! A great selection of beautifully fresh finger sandwiches, scones, cream and jam. and a selection of small cakes, which were so light. Absolutely scrumptious. We weren't rushed, so we could sit and enjoy our food. The folk working in the tearoom were very welcoming and we had a delightful afternoon. Thank you!

We have been coming to Dorset on holiday for years and have visited Mangerton Mill in the past, so decided to pop in last week for a well awaited scone and cream. I believe it’s now under new owners/management who were all very pleasant and accommodating and welcomed our dogs, but unfortunately my first scone arrived with hair and fluff in it, which the staff were more than happy to change, but then I could hear the microwave going, then dinging in the background and my second scone was served up. Admittedly, it was warm to touch, but once I cut it open, it was hard and frozen inside. I would have thought the scones would be cooked on site or delivered in fresh, but unfortunately they weren’t. Thankfully, I was not charged for the scone on leaving but, have to say, it was not up the standards we have had in the past.
