Plum in Exeter

We've been coming to the plum cafe for years and absolutely love it. Great chat, fantastic cakes and the best bacon sarnies around.

The best takeaway in Topsham served by friendly helpful owners. Homemade cakes are to die for and the bacon, brie and cranberry baps just fabulous.

Visited a few times now for some lunch in between work , fabulous food and a delicious iced late with caramel 🥰 !! owners are lovely to talk too whilst you wait for your food - and also amazing banter , 💯/ 💯. I would go purely just for the entertainment 😆. ps. I didn’t spill any egg on myself 😆. super proud of my accomplishment for today 🤣🤣. See you again soon 😊

We come back to Topsham year on year purely to get lunch here, the owners are lovely people, have cracking humour and make incredible food!

If you want some banter with your butties, this is the place to come! We had some lighthearted, friendly chat with the owners whilst waiting for our paninis to be prepared and toasted. :) I chose the Mediterranean one. It was served in a foil lined paper bag, which it made it easy to eat. It was delicious and very filling. Definitely recommended for a lunchtime takeaway.

Have stopped here for my work liken a few times over the last few months. The owners are a friendly couple with dry humour and witty banter to keep you entertained whilst waiting for your freshly prepared food. Very good panini’s. Recommend the chicken tikka

I approached the window and merely asked if they sold a particular type of cake and the reply I got was a rude NO. Not “no I’m very sorry how about you try here” …. I have worked in hospitality for many years and that is not how you speak to potential custom. I won’t be returning and spending my money here in the future.

Really good selection of tasty cakes at a reasonable price. The gluten free options are also good. The lady behind the counter was very helpful.

I was stood behind a lady and child in the queue waiting to be serviced and was appalled at the way the man spoke to this lady when she asked about flavours of ice cream, the women serving I presume his wife thought it funny the way this potential customer was abused, bad language was used in front of the child, needless to say we left and would not return

This guy was pretty obnoxious and downright rude to my daughter. Will definitely not be going back - bizarre that someone who relies on passing trade and goodwill behaves in this manner.

I have to say I enjoyed one of the nicest ice creams I have ever tasted from here today. Service was great to... keep up the good work!

Had a great lunch from Plum whilst out with my two boys. Pulled pork panini and bacon baps were awesome. As were the rocky road variations too. Friendly, welcoming and a laugh too. Great independent cafe to visit.

Enticed in by the smell of bacon, then submitted to the lure of the Bury Black Pudding. Hot food, snacks or drinks, Plum serves up a treat every time. Excellent service, sometimes whilst balancing on one leg(!). Homemade and local, a visit to Plum will always delight

I have just moved to Topsham, and this is my go to lunch stop. They are such lovely hosts, always up for a laugh and the food is beautiful. 10/10.

What a feed we had for lunch!!! My husband had a cheesy, beef, onion and horse radish bap and I had a bacon, Brie and cranberry ciabatta- lashings of bacon I might add!! Keep it up to the lovely couple at Plum! Definitely be back !!!

My friends all commissioned to buy their Bakewell tarts if shopping in Topsham and visiting me. They are as deep as a muffin, have heavenly biscuity pastry cup filled with luscious raspberry jam, almond cake studded with two glacé cherries (not the usual sugary kind). They sell from street window.

Only takeaway via front window available at present, v cheerful and personable owner, wide selection of cakes (ours were good), excellent coffees. Would revisit and try their bacon sandwiches

Visitamos hoy con 3 niños, miramos por la ventana y vimos que el café estaba vacío, así que pensamos en probarlo.Cuando pedimos nuestros batidos, pastel y una taza de té, la señora nos dijo que haría unos más pequeños que serían más adecuados para los niños. . luego ocurrió que nos cobraron el precio completo.Un poco más tarde, mi hijo de 2 años derramó un poco de su batido, que se sirvió en tazas de plata menos un asa. Un amigo pidió servilletas para que pudiéramos limpiar la mesa. El caballero propietario apareció y nos dio una mirada de disgusto, lo que hizo que tanto mi amigo como yo nos sintiéramos muy incómodos. Continuamos limpiando la mesa y algunas que se habían partido en el piso.Cuando salimos del café, me disculpé por cualquier ruido, al que la propietaria ignoró.Es seguro decir que ni mi amigo ni yo volveremos a visitar.

Initially went here for coffee which was hot, not the all too usual warm, and found a very friendly atmosphere from both staaf and customers. We returned later for lunch. I need gluten free and here it is no problem. it was a cold day and we chose croque monsieur, which was just about a meal in itself not just a snack, all very hot and very tatsty. Lots of locals use the Plum which is always a good sign. If you are looking for The Ritz this isnt it but if you like good local cafes then this is a great example.

Been here a couple of times and will definitely be coming back. Service is great they’re friendly and make you feel very welcome. The bacon sandwich is amazing!! Definitely have the cheese and chilli jam you won’t be disappointed!

The best bacon sandwich I’ve had in a very long time. I indulged with cheese and chilli jam - amazing! Cooked however you like and with friendly service. Love this place :) will be back.

We called in having coffee and toast and will definitely return. The owners are passionate about their business and nothing is too much trouble. We would recommend everyone pop in and we will be returning

Lovely coffee and delicious homemade soup. The other half had a beef filled baguette which he loved. Very friendly owners and good value. Will defo return ❤️

Having trudged up and down Topsham in the rain it was a relief to see a sign saying "dogs Welcome" so , in we went . In this small cafe we had 2 delicious bowls of homemade soup and followed it by 2 glorious homemade cakes and a nice cuppa. The couple who run the place are both extremely welcoming and I could have happily sat discussing dogs all day . This little place goes immediately on my list of places to take visitors to and we will be back soon to try more of the menu and obviously, more cakes .

We were visiting Topsham for a few days and had breakfast here twice! Would definitely recommend the sausage sandwich with onion marmalade! The owners were lovely. A real little gem.

Volvería de nuevo y recomendaría a los turistas que visiten la ciudad en lugar de detenerse en el primer pub del estuario.

Have been visiting Jackie and Warren's cafes,first in Sidmouth and now in Topsham for many years when on holiday in Devon- always a warm welcome,excellent homemade food and cakes and fabulous service-always a laugh and a joke with Warren and Jackie a lovely,warm,friendly lady with a ready welcome.

Received a very warm welcome today for my family and my dog. We enjoyed delicious bacon sandwiches, and were given the choice of how we liked it cooked. Generous portions too. Great menu on offer, including creamy Devonshire ice creams. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous crab sandwich and friendly service. The cakes looked amazing too. Would definitely recommend.

Dropped in this Saturday for a quick coffee. This place over the years has changed owners but not service and ambiance. The coffee turned into an added crab sandwich was was marvellous. Cheerful couple running the place and nothing seemed a problem. In Topsham give it a try, great coffee, friendly service and great snacks.

If you've been walking and just need to refresh this is a good place to stop.Sensible price for a pot of tea and a cake. Nice people.

We ordered a scone and we asked for it not to be warmed up, they didn't like it and said it was too late as it was under the grill (could hear the chap grumbling out the back and said he would have to put it in the bin) whatever next! Nowhere near as good as it was when it was the Avocet, needless to say we won't be going back.

Un pequeño café encantador. Tenía un BLT, la ensalada era fresca, el pan era suave y delicioso y el tocino era muy sabroso. Los pasteles parecían increíbles, así que también tuvimos un brownie de caramelo salado, muy recomendable! ! ! . Todo fue tan delicioso que definitivamente volveré cuando vuelva a Topsham. Los dos empleados eran super encantadores y muy atentos. Un ambiente relajado y encantador y solo vi platos vacíos de todos los que estaban allí. No puedo decir nada negativo, gracias por un delicioso almuerzo.

Llamado durante mi visita con mi familia (somos habitantes de Exeter) No hay mucha bienvenida y los helados eran demasiado caros para una cucharada pequeña 2. . . . Un perro que corre por la cocina no es mi idea de higiene. ! No hay uno al que volver.

Went in Plum Cafe for lunch with my Mother, food good along with the service, will not go back there due to the male owner being rude and obnoxious to my Mother - shame good place but not recommended.

Nunca antes me han preguntado qué tan bien me gustaría que se cocinen mis huevos revueltos. Fueron cocinados a la perfección, amable, acogedor y eficiente. El servicio era insuperable. La zanahoria, el jengibre y la sopa de eneldo de mi esposo (?) Deliciosamente fragantes y sabrosos. Los pasteles parecían realmente deliciosos, pero lamentablemente estábamos demasiado llenos. ¡Gracias!

We were looking for somewhere to take a coffee break and decided to try out this one as we hadn’t been in there before. Glad we went in, friendly place, cakes homemade, and dog friendly. We will certainly return.

Reasonably priced beautiful food , owners can’t do enough for you friendly & great sense of humour , can’t recommend enough & must place to visit if you are in the area

Three of us visited with our dog, nice friendly welcome and good food. Service was very quick even though the cafe was busy. We all enjoyed toasted sandwiches of Stilton, walnut and fig chutney. Served with a generous and equally tasty salad. Menu and specials board was very impressive. We will return!

This is a lovely, friendly place to come. Interesting cafe menu and good quality home cooked food. Very welcoming and family friendly without being adult-repellent, nice balance. The ice creams are good too!!

We eat breakfast in this cafe 2 years ago and couldn’t wait to go back and it didn’t disappoint. A great friendly welcome, followed by good quality and a fantastic breakfast meant that we eat there twice and would have gone back for a third time if it was open on Sundays. High quality ingredients, cooked to perfection, accompanied by great coffee all at a reasonable price will mean we will be back when we are next down in this part of the country. You should give it a go as it’s the best cafe in Topsham in our view.

Popped in here for a light lunch. Had a fantastic Brie, bacon and cranberry toastie with a tasty side salad.

Lots of choice but we went for a brie & bacon toastie and a stilton, fig & walnut toastie. Both were generous portions with a side salad and we really enjoyed them. First time at this cafe and the people running it were lovely and friendly. The cakes looked great too but we didn't try on this occasion. Recommended.

Called in for a cuppa after getting of the bus and before doing the town(!). After a tea/coffee and cake we decided it was so good that we'd return for lunch, which we did. Yep, eat here, simple stuff and it's really good.

We visited Topsham the other day and on a recommendation popped into Plum,the service and food was really really good can't say any more than that I had the spicy Tuna and Prawn melt that melted in my mouth and my wife had the Stilton and Walnut

Visited Topsham for the afternoon and popped in here, had an amazing tuna and cheese melt open toastie, cakes and drinks.

If you want to know what a superb bacon sandwich tastes like, then this is the place to be. Only trouble is, my own bacon sarnies at home seem very disappointing in comparison! ;)

I visited this cafe several times during our week stay in Topsham. The service is wonderful and it is great for little ones as they have high chairs and toys. It is a small space but I was able to get a table there each time without booking. There is regular traffic for take away option. The best part is their coffee!

Had a snack for lunch here and it was lovely! Fresh food, interesting combination of flavours.....nice to be offered something other than baguette, sandwich or baked potato - not that there's anything wrong with that but it was nice to be offered more imaginative options.We will return.

We have been to Plum twice now on visits to Topsham and have had snacks and tea and coffee. Everything is tasty and well presented. Nice atmosphere about the place.

Mi primera visita con un amigo hace unas semanas para café y tartas era excelente. Pero la semana pasada, me habla muy groseramente por un hombre (el dueño? Cuando pregunté acerca de reservar una mesa. Compré dos tortas para llevar y hacer una observación acerca de la comida, cortesía y me dijeron sin rodeos que "muy no hay en él tratando de suave jabón, ya que no cambiar de opinión". Yo ni siquiera estaba tratando de cambiar de opinión! Me di cuenta de que otros visitantes han comentado su humor seco, pero que necesita cuidar como me sentí impactada por ser hablado en este camino y no regresaré.

Yo vengo aquí casi todos los miércoles durante el semestre para el café con mis amigos. Tenemos un gran Santo Tomé y el personal es muy amable.

Fui hoy con mi pareja y su niño. Tan pronto como entramos en el personal hizo un escándalo de nuestro pequeño, así como el ofrecimiento de cojines para apoyar él en su silla alta. Había un par de niños en la cafetería comiendo sola y el personal era haciendo un esfuerzo para charlar con ellos. Fue un ambiente muy agradable con cada mesa charlando con el otro.

Its a basic small cafe with limited choices. Staff are helpful enough and made me a sandwich off menu but pricey for what it is and my tea cup smelt of bleach, ruining the taste of my tea.

Our first visit with a new puppy of 13 weeks after a first train ride. We couldn't have been made more welcome by the owners and our dog too.We were a little nervous of our first trip inside a cafe but this is definitely the place to go no matter how old your dog is. Great hot chocolate and a varied menu, we didn't eat on this occasion but we will be back for sure.If you love welcoming, friendly and cozy this is the place!!!!!

Immediately greeted with a smile. Friendly banter followed as we placed our order. The server was very helpful with one of our group who had some dietary requirements. She even brought a sample of the soup to try. Personal service, great food. Recommended.

Small but functional! Good menu serving hot food until 2.30. Great selection of ice cream. The lady behind the counter very friendly and helpful with where to go in Topsham, nothing seemed to be a bother. Comfortable seating and reasonable prices. We enjoyed the sausage sandwich!

Lovely family lunch again with a warm welcome as usual. Great food. I recommend the crab salad. Even with two small children and two dogs we were very well looked after. Thoroughly advise a visit here if you are in Topsham . My visits to Exeter are not complete without a visit to Plums.

Popped into this lovely little place to have breakfast. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a reLatively small but lovely menu. I ordered the bacon sandwich and wasabi send whether I wanted smoked bacon or not and how I wanted it cooked as well as a choice of bread. My partner ordered scrambled eggs on today and at.ain't was asked how he wanted his eggs cooked and again a choice of bread. The service was freindly and eve around with a. Nice bit of cheeky banter, the food was cooked perfectly, exactly how we asked for it with a very generous helping of eggs and a plentiful am oh t of bacon in the thickly sliced granary bread, a lovely breakfast experience, delicious food and very reasonably priced. Definitely. Worth a it's and I am sure we will be back before we end our shirt holiday in Topsham.

Visiting Topsham for the first time, thought the cafe looked nice from the outside so read the menu on the wall and both decided what food and drink we would like before entering. Once inside the door the female behind the counter shouted to us that unless we were going to order food, she would not serve us as it was coming up to lunch time and didn't want us taking up valuable space, I informed her that we did intend on purchasing food and drink. We ate our very average food as quickly as possible and left in under 20 minutes feeling very unwelcomed. A treat turned quickly into an unpleasant experience, and we certainly would not return again.

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat after swimming n Topsham pool! Ordered a BLT on granary bread which was delicious and fabulous value for money, served by owner? Who was very friendly, a fantastic little find!

This was our second visit to Plum and once again it was excellent. The open sandwiches are really tasty and there is a nice, friendly atmosphere, promoted by the owners. There is also a good choice of cakes and soft drinks. All in all a really nice lunch stop.

My wife and I first visited Plum some 15 months ago whilst visiting the area. We were very pleased with the food but also the friendliness of the owners was very evident. Our recent visit re enforced my above comments , lunch was superb , chosen from a more than sufficient menu and served looking very appetising and we were not disappointed . Followed by home made scones a lovely pot of tea what more can you ask for .

Great little coffee shop on the Main Street. Simply gorgeous friand (almond tart served with morello cherries, kirsch syrup and creme freche). Friendly service.

If you are in Topsham and you fancy a bite to eat I thoroughly recommend the Plum Cafe. Lovely service, excellent food and plenty of it. Their Bacon Sandwich with West Country Cheese won't do my waste line any good but is probably the nicest thing i have eaten on this trip

It's an after school treat for us all. Try the blackberry ripple. It's fab. The children love the zany server!

Had a lovely lunch in Plum. Plenty of delicious sandwiches and toasties with interesting flavours served with delicious salads.

This gem of a cafe always offers a warm welcome to all. I regularly visit, nearly always with my dog, a labradoodle. We are always greeted with Warren and Jackie's good humour and friendly banter. Although we have our favourite cakes, I love the cheese scones, my son the millionaires shortbread, it is always difficult to choose as the selection of freshly baked goods is wonderful. Whether I sit in or grab a takeaway the coffee is delicious. I highly recommend this cafe to anyone, especially dog owners looking for tasty food, delicious coffee and a warm welcome.

Homemade, unusual and some of the best cakes I've ever had - look out for the raspberry bakewells! The vegetarian soups are always utterly delicious, Warren is a wizard with subtle spice in gems such as spicy chickpea and onion, and manages to make an ordinary sweet pepper and tomato combination something tasty and out of this word! The other open sandwich staples such as fresh crab are always fantastic and generously proportioned! I've never seen anyone given anything but the warmest welcome, with the lovely Warren and Jackie doing their utmost to accommodate everyone as much as possible in this cosy little cafe. Not sure what my lunch times would be like without Plum!

I was visitng Topsham briefly, with my well trained medium sized dog. After a walk I was looking for a pleasant café to have a drink and cake in the company of my well behaved older dog. I opened the door to Plum and immediately saw a jack Russell type dog, so thought ah lovely. Went to go in and a smartly dressed lady said no....my dog was too big....he is slightly smaller than a Labrador. I was mystified. My dog curls up into a ball under the table at my feet and no one would know he was there. She said her café wasn't big enough. I was saddened. Saw a table and two chairs outside and said could I have coffee out there with him. Yes she said I will bring it out to you. My coffee came, I gave her my money.....the discussion came up again, I was calm and explained I didn't really understand her argument. She gave me my money back and said go somewhere else, she would hate to think I was unhappy. What can I say? I have never been treated so poorly anywhere before with my well trained dog. I found another café further down that truly welcomes people and dogs. Had my coffee. On the way back to the car park, I popped into the café to let the woman know the other café was lovely. Noticed there was a black Labrador assist dog in there.....curled up under the table with the owner, not in anyones way or any trouble. I felt very saddened at the lack of welcome. Maybe she didn't like the look o my dog. Would not recommend this place to anyone. There is a marvellous café with lovely looking food and cakes just 20 yards down the road. No stars for the welcome. Or lack of clear direction about dogs....maybe she should have a size chart at the door! what a poor welcome for a visitor to Topsham!

we called in to The Plum for breakfast before leaving for home from Topsham. It is a lovely friendly cafe which serves excellent food which is good value for money and the hosts were both really friendly and attentive.

This little oasis opposite the Fire Station is a gem. very friendly and efficient personal service from the proprietors. Popped in for lunch today with my wife. I ordered the scrambled eggs on granary toast with mackerel. When you are asked how you want your scrambled eggs cooked (I like mine moist) you know you are onto a winner. It was absolutely delicious. My wife ordered the crab open sandwich and declared it the best crab sandwich she had ever had. Very generous portions and well presented. We have suffered throughout the west country with poor quality crab sandwiches where you literally have to search for the crab, but not here. Good coffee too. Well done 'Plum'. We will return.

We had an awesome lunch here- most impressed!! Really enjoyed the gluten free orange & almond cake, too!! Impressive selection of drinks. They do gluten free sandwiches too- really enjoyed them also!! Would recommend this place to everyone !!

Having discovered Plum earlier in the year we visited again for lunch and were not disappointed. It is small, but cosy with a friendly welcome and quality home made food. We had a rarebit and an open sandwich with feta, onion marmalade and almonds. Both were very tasty and we were just disappointed we didn't have room to sample some of the cakes. Definitely a regular visit for us when we are in Topsham.

Plum is a super place for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. The coffee is "great " and the scones yum. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, and friendly attentive service. We always look forward to calling in!!

On a rainy day in Topsham when all you need is top quality comfort food, Plum is definitely the place to go. We bypassed other rather twee looking cafés in the hunt for something savoury for brunch. The rarebit was exceptional, the coffee great and the welcome top class. The only disappointment was that we didn't get to sample more on the menu. Highly recommended.

Luckily I live within walking distance of Topsham and my treat of the week (or every few days) is a coffee and/or cake in Plum. Jackie and Warren are so friendly and make everyone feel welcome whether you're a regular or a visitor. The coffee is excellent, the home made cakes and scones are delicious and the home made soup is always substantial and full of flavour. It's just a lovely little place to spend some time.
