Fabulous pub. Great staff. Excellent menu. Superb, after we arrived at Bristol airport tired and hungry. Highly recommend a visit. Saw they had a piano but we didn’t stay long enough to play it!

A lovely pub in what was the start of our holiday. Nice beer and wine and the pies were filled to the brim. When they say buttery mash they ain’t kidding! Will definitely return the next time we fly from Bristol. Ignore the miserable reviews and go and try it.

A wet Monday evening was probably not the best time to visit but we were staying locally and read the reviews so we booked a table and arrived around 7.30 to an almost empty pub . Excellent service at the bar and by the waitress . The menu looked good ,not too much choice which I am always pleased about . We ordered and the food arrived promptly and hot but it was just a very average meal . The onion soup was quite gloopy with a small triangle of cheese toast and the field mushrooms on sour dough was a very small sample of mushrooms on a very difficult to cut piece of toast . Neither starter was outstanding. The next course lamb and burger were accompanied by some strange sauces and a pot of gravy that reminded me of the bisto gravy I had at school . The lamb was well cooked and the veg was hot , the burger was okay but nothing special again . The cider was excellent and again the waitress was very efficient and polite. It was our first meal out together for ages and I think I just had high expectations and was disappointed by the lack of atmosphere ( not the pubs fault ) and the average food .

Average was sadly being generous. The service by the staff is spot on. The quality of selection of drinks is again spot on. The mark up on food per portion size not so spot on. Sadly I write this review with wanting to give it a glowing 5* but I can’t. I eat out a lot and sample some good and bad in all areas of the U.K. In a group of six diners ordering a variety of meals Schnitzel, burger, pie etc the food arrived promptly and with a smile, sadly that is where our satisfaction ended seeing the portion sizes per £1. I accept the 65% markup on food and having put over £100 over the bar in ale and wine this place should be knocking out platters of food to keep the drinkers coming back for months to come. But no such look, a tasty burger, was it special, nothing more than I could have made at home, twice the size would have been what I expected , or instead more around the £10 mark per portion than the £15.50 that what was being charged. Come on The Plough, such a good location and market to exploit with good belly busting pub grub. Not the mediocre macdonalds size double cheese burger that was on offer this evening. Sadly for me I need to be just a little bit bowled over when dining out and this evenings outing came nowhere close.

The above title is how I would describe the management of this establishment - inconsistent and fond of favouritism. On our first visit, getting food here - just as simple as chips, Was no issue if sat outside or in the bar area, until one day this changed. Today I was sat outside and saw someone eating a portion of chips, tried to order at the bar but said “after 8:30 you may” I’m not sure what the management has against myself and my partner but why allow others to order food and other not? What the management has against my partner and I is beyond me. But either let people order food or not. It is rare I felt welcome here, after giving this place multiple chances - because it is a wonderful pub with palatable food, and a decent selection of drinks the management lets it down. My partner bought her parents all the way from wales here on multiple occasions and we have had to go elsewhere or forego food entirely - which is not only embarrassing for us but should be embarrassing for this establishment. Develop some consistency, please.

We called in on a Wednesday lunchtime just after their mad rush of Christmas. It was lovely and quiet just the sound of the crackle of logs in the open fire. Dan the landlord was most welcoming and we ordered from the Lunch Club Menu….a good selection of hot and cold dishes plus a drink (beer, wine nonalcoholic) and all for a tenner. The staff we met were cheerful and attentive, the food was beautifully presented and very tasty. We hope to be back later this month with friends after a walk through Goblin Combe. Overpriced and underwhelming Pre-Christmas get together for family of 6 adults Lovely setting, nice and warm and friendly staff, drinks we served promptly including a decent pint of Butcombe Bitter. Food - Vegetarian Wellington itself was tasty, sautéed potatoes turned out to be over cooked roast potatoes that looked like they had come from a packet, seasonal vegetables - turned out to be cabbage (plural). Korean sesame-fried chicken burger, Asian slaw, skin-on chips - Nicley cooked piece of fried chicken in a brioche bun with a slight covering of coleslaw. Very little Korean nor asian about this dish. Pan-fried trout, garlic prawns, buttered greens, sautéed potatoes - one small fillet of trout, roast potatoes (not sautéed) and two and a half small sprigs of broccoli made up the 'butterd greens' with 3 medium prawns on top it finished off this disappointing dish for £18. The pie was tasty but suffered with a lack of vegetables. Desserts were taken but not written down so there was some confusion when too many coffees turned up as main puddings had got confused with the mini-dessert and coffee (Which is an excellent idea) The profiteroles were dry / crunchy and had a lack of cream inside - not good The crumble came out cold and had to be sent back to be heated up The sundae with waffle was a bowl of ice cream with a tin on cherries poured on the top. When we asked where the waffles were - they had run out. Overall the care of the food and execution of service was simply not there for the price of the meals. We left feeling disappointed and would not be in a rush to come back.

Decided to visit the Plough again after a disastrous visit just over a year ago. It used to be one of our favourites. All of our starters were very good, especially my mushrooms. The mains were all good, if a little small. It's worth noting that under the "Pies" section, it says that all pies are served with mash and vegetables. One of us had the shepherd's pie, which obviously had a mashed potato top instead of pastry, but just got the veg with it. His meal was therefore even smaller. Desserts were OK, hubby had the crumble of the day, with custard. As I was fairly full I opted for the hot drink and mini crumble. My husband's crumble was hot, custard cold. Both my crumble and custard were fridge cold, so I asked if they could be heated, at least the custard, so it would add warmth to the crumble. They came back some 10 minutes later, still below room temperature, so I'm not sure what the kitchen had done. Overall service was good, with a few too long waits Would we return? Definitely, but I don't think I would bother with a dessert again

We popped in on for dinner and really enjoyed our time there. We had a few drinks then we're seated to enjoy our meals. One of us was not a meat eater so she had the asparagus and eggs starter which she really enjoyed. Then she had the grilled halloumi salad for the main, again it was beautifully presented and tasted great. I had the calamari starter and steak for the main course, both of which were excellent. The deserts were so nice that I had two of them.😊. The staff were very helpful and attentive, they even went the extra mile to make me an Irish coffee, something I guess they don't get much call for. It was probably the most unusual Irish coffee I have had but it was definitely the best I've ever had. I hope I'm in beautiful Wrington again soon, so I can enjoy another evening in the Plough. A massive thank you to all the staff . 😁

Prices were a little higher than an average pub but when the food came it was obvious why that is. The quality of the food was outstanding and the portions were of good size. I had the roast pork, as did two of our other guests, and my partner had the 3 meat roast. It was a succulent and thick piece of roast pork with a mouth watering and sizable piece of crackling. The roast potatoes and vegetables were beautifully seasoned and cooked and my partner had a healthy sized Yorkshire pudding to go with his beef. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and overall we were left happy and satisfied.

Didn't realise that the sound of hand dryers in the toilets would have been so loud and annoying. The main meal was of a good standard..just a pity that it arrived minus the fries. Did point out the issues and to be fair was given a small discount to compensate.. I would however have preferred a pleasant evening which we have come to expect. Would usualy have enjoyed desert, a few more drinks and coffee, but the experience was below standard and not one I shall be in a hurry to repeat. Appreciate that restrictions and a recent change of staff may have caused issues. I did raise concerns about the table position on arrival based on previous experience to be advised all the others were booked and nothing else available. In hindsight I would have been better off leaving rather than being so disappointed, but stayed to support a local business..my mistake.

Visited fairly recently, food was nice but service was very slow and compared with other restaurants, staff need to be more intentive!

Went there for evening meal with my family. Mid week, soon as we walked in we were made to feel welcome. Staff and service was excellent. I knew it was known for its food but my goodness it was absolutely fantastic. Our waitress was knowledgeable. Food was presented really well.. could not fault the evening and cannot wait to return.

The staff seemed much interested in closing the kitchen by 2.15pm than having our business. We arrived at just after 2pm and felt under great pressure to order fast. They said they we would need to finish by 3pm so we felt very rushed. With hindsight we would have been better to go to somewhere else as they clearly were not keen on having customers after 2 pm. My burger was inedible but no one checked our table to see if the food was ok so I ended up just eating the fries which were soggy but not bad and the smallest pot of coleslaw I have ever seen. Not great value for £12.95. When we tried to order dessert, we were told we were too late. It would have been good if someone had come outside checked on us and asked if we wanted anything else. As didn't eat the burger I was offered a 10% discount but I would have rather had some decent food. I left hungry annoyed and disappointed.

Having been here Valentine’s Day this year and had a good experience we were very disappointed overall...Firstly, with the many months that they could’nt open the outside area looked like a tip and was’nt nice to view from the conservatory where we ate. The grass was’nt cut, furniture was rough, looked like nothing had been done during lockdown. Food...I decided to have a chicken Thai green curry which to my horror they used skin on chicken thighs, this is a cheap way and chicken breast should have been used, not good. I had to drink Fever Tree tonic which was £3, another pub not far away charged last week £2 so who is ripping off who. Shall not visit again.

Four of us ate here recently, and we're glad we did. We'd booked and showed up on time (five minutes early) but the bar staff seemed to ignore us - it wasn't that busy - however, that was the only niggle after we'd been acknowledged. After that table service was warm and friendly, and we had drinks (beer and wine), four main courses off the standard menu and four puds.Everything was fine/good without being stand out great. We paid £100 (which included a tip), reasonable value. It's a pleasant place for an evening out, and we'd be happy to dine there again, but it's not anywhere we'd particularly rush back to in prefenece to other local haunts.

I was staying up the road in an awful hotel. I went to the plough and what a great place. A good menu and excellent selection of beers. The service was really good.

Plough inn is accessed through some narrow country lanes, but is certainly worth the effort. Set-up is pretty typical English gastro-pub with original(ish) cosey public bar area with relatively recent conservatory type restaurant addition at rear (backing onto extensive parking area). Very family orientated with nice sitting room area including board games which helped with the battle of keeping my 13 year old daughter off screens. Food was excellent can highly recommend Venison Chilli and Spiced Chorizo & seafood stew, they are proper spicey though so be wary of any sensitive souls. Small downside... front of house are pretty clueless, we booked a table in the restaurant on arrival and waited 90 minutes until we discovered we'd been "forgotten" , we also established that we could have merrily eaten in the pub area (which was nicer anyway) and only discovered this when we saw wait staff going through to the pub when we were eating, somewhat annoying, however the food is so good you can overlook those shortfalls and as long as you're aware wait staff are lacking a bit of leadership you can manage the situation.

Great service and fabulous food, not to be missed , however if you want atmosphere ask to eat in the bar area , restaurant is very brightly lit and would benefit from some subtle lighting or candles

Our first visit to this pub as we wanted somewhere equidistant from home and where family members were staying. A warm welcome with a good range of beers on tap. Informal dining area with reasonably priced menu. All the usual favourites alongside some Asian inspired dishes. The chicken thigh massaman curry was delicious, well made with a lovely crunchy fresh veg garnish. Will definitely go again

First visit here as found it on the web. Very impressed on entry, nice warm welcome, drinking area looked nice and the dining area was a wow!. We didnt have a booking for lunch but wasn’t a problem. Furnished well & quite quirky. Menu was’nt huge but was quite different to the run of the mill pubs, would have like a bit more choice but was ok. What was a great surprise is that Thatchers launched a 0% Cider which is gorgeous. Food came well presented & a good quantity...the taste was superb. Quite pricey but well worth it.

A lovely pub for a perfect dinner with friends! We had a warm welcome from friendly staff (and a very cute dog called Nova!). The layout and decor is stylish and relaxed. Service was excellent and the food was superb. The fish was cooked perfectly, the celeriac vegan main was delicious, the pudding was everything a pudding should be, and tasty coffee. A really enjoyable evening - hope to visit again soon.
