An impromptu choice to visit Plato's today and what a brilliant decision and choice. We had a really superb meal and were made to feel very welcome by Ronnie, who looked after us! We had the fish finger sourdough sandwich and the chicken and paprika mayo sandwich...accompanied by parmesan and truffle chips 🍟 😋 absolutely delicious. All washed down with a delightful glass of rose wine. We will definitely be returning. It was such a great culinary treat.

Love to go in Plato’s but decided to give a miss lately as price for drink are to high compared to neighbouring pubs .come Plato’s put some offers for locals it would help .

Wow!!! Quite simply the Spiced Rubbed Monkfish was one of the best meals I’ve ever had! In the description it says “muscle cream sauce” which is completely inaccurate. What they actually mean is that the meal comes with like a dozen wonderful muscles! Sourdough bread, olives & oils was an excellent starter for the table to share. For informal you can sit in the bar area. If you want a less hectic scene the restaurant is perfect. I’d recommend a table facing the kitchen as it was just amazing watching how they all worked so well together. If you visit KL I’d highly recommend you have a meal here.

Excellent food, wine list and service. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, my scallops & tuna steak were wonderful & so was the Chablis from the extensive wine list! Highly recommended.

Had a fabulous dinner at Platos as always. The standard of food is incredible, my husband had The Burger and I The Seabass which I commented to the lovely young lady who served us, that was the best Seabass dinner have ever had… HIGHLY RECOMMEND

We just visited, two f us with our Dog and tried the recent Tapas Menu. Got to say very impressed. We ordered five plates plus fries and was ample for us. Food and service was first rate and a very fair price for Kirkby. Definitely recommended and we’ll do it again soon

Me, my partner and our dog came for dinner at Plato's and it was lovely. Our steak was cooked to medium rare as requested, and the atmosphere was great.

Plato’s is one of the best places to eat and drink in Kirkby Lonsdale. It also has fantastic rooms. I have been coming here for years and Plato’s never fails to impress. The service from the bar, the personality of the owners (Jess and Tony) and the food is second to none! The menu is constantly updated and is extremely high quality and great value. I would highly recommend Plato’s to anyone who visits KL. Love the place!

We've been here many time before, usually the food is good to excellent . On this occasion the food was poor... , we did mentioned that the quality was not as expected to the waitress who seemed too busy and distracted to have the time to listen.

Booked into Plato’s to take the pressure off my sister whilst up for the weekend. Disappointed with the room (3) the bathroom needs a lot of attention . Cracked toilet, black mildew all around the shower and needs a deep clean. Marks on the quilt cover. Noisy room due to band playing and people walking around their room above all night. The lady at breakfast was lovely. We all had cooked breakfasts because we didn’t see any cereals. Down stairs did look amazing and the lady said the new owners are working incredibly hard to update everything, but that didn’t help our stay. I will be coming up on a regular basic but not stopping here sadly. :(

Visited here for drinks. Place was busy but the staff despite being rushed were polite and friendly. Cocktails were lovely and well presented by the very nice barmaid. Worth a visit.

Arranged a trip to stay at Plato's for the sixth time. We were greeted by a staff member who was almost as cold as the bar. We were then informed that our package which included dinner would only be pizza and tapas!!! Our 'superior' room left much to be desired, and when we left the next day they wouldn't open the front door so we had to squeeze past the bins 🤷🤷

Came here for a Mother’s Day set menu , 3 courses for around £27.99 food was lovely and my aunty and I were given a little gift packet containing some bath salts and a bracelet and some other bits which was a lovely touch for Mother’s Day , staff were friendly and attentive would recommend this place if visiting Kirby Lonsdale

Recently stayed and mixed review. Greeted with ‘oh is it that time already’, rather than any form of welcome. Shown upstairs to room on second floor(no lift) and initially almost guided into service area, then upstairs into room where our ‘host’ walked into bathroom area, stood and looked bemused and said nothing. We walked into bedroom where our host offered no information regarding breakfast time etc and simply said, if you need us we’re downstairs and then left. The bathroom radiator was not working, but quickly resolved on request. We later found shower to be luke warm at best, but again quickly sorted after making staff aware. Tiles on bathroom floor were poorly cut and chipped, also broken pane in window and worn paintwork in bathroom. Bed was very comfortable and room quiet, but reading lamp had no bulb. Good hospitality tray. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent(compliments to kitchen team). Some bulbs in emergency lighting in stairs were flickering and need replacement(health & safety). Staff friendly but the place appeared slightly neglected and minor things add up. Definitely not 5*, perhaps 3*+.

I’m originally from Kirkby Lonsdale, and I’ve eaten here many times and the food has always been fantastic. I’m gutted because I booked it for my wife and I, two friends and my brother. I had butternut squash risotto with additional £7.50 for king prawns added. Small portion, only warm, absolutely flavourless. My wife and brother had a trio of prawn medley The langoustine were mushy as well as the prawns. We asked if they were fresh The waiter replied, yes I think so sir. We then complained about them Fair play they brought some more back. Unfortunately they were exactly the same We asked the same waiter again if they were fresh, he replied I don’t know sir !! The shell fish was frozen But they charging fresh fish prices! In short the food was very poor. The staff were very nice and obliging. They did remove one portion of trio medley off the bill, which was a kind gesture We then found out after it was under new management. Sorry peoples we won’t be back

We booked to have lunch there yesterday. We hadn’t been since it had been under new ownership. Had a very bad meal there previously but wanted to see if it had changed. When we arrived, there was only one other customer as it was at start of service. A staff member was crouched down behind the till on the phone. Despite our presence standing awkwardly in front of the door, there was zero acknowledgment. Here’s what should’ve happened- put hand over phone and say to your customers- ‘please take a seat and I’ll be right with you’. We stood awkwardly for nearly 10 minutes and during that time discovered the loos were also out of order. We then left and took our money elsewhere.

I purchased a gift voucher for my daughter and her partner because I always loved staying here and using the Restaurant to dine in …. Today, they tried to use the voucher to be told it won’t be accepted because of the change in ownership…. I feel this is very unfair so won’t be dining here again .

Absolutely delicious food - really glad we visited for a meal during our stay in Kirkby Lonsdale. I had the chicken risotto and it was the best meal I had throughout our many meals out.

We combined a weekend stay finishing on the last night with a wedding anniversary celebratory meal with a group of friends. Tony, Jessica and Kay pulled all the stops out to make the evening an experience for us all to remember. We started with a pre-dinner reception which they set up for us in their wine cellar followed by a wonderful meal in the restaurant. The service throughout was spot on, very friendly and efficient along with very well presented excellently cooked food. We and all our friends enjoyed the whole experience and we would recommend Plato's to anyone looking to arrange something similar or simply to just enjoy a lovely friendly venue to stay in with wonderful food. We will definately be back.

Absolutely loved my dining experience here! From the moment you enter you are met with a warm, inviting cosy atmosphere where you instantly want to stay and experience whst they have to offer. It has been a while since I have eaten out and had good food as well as good service. Platos delivers both in abundance Front of house staff are friendly, knowledgeable and well trained and happy.......something you find hard to come across these days in hospitality. It shows it must be a great place to work as well as to visit. Now the food..........exceptional! Menu choice...inviting, and just the right amount of choice and pricing. We shared the whole chicken with sides and it was delicious. Could not fault it at all. I really should have stopped eating after my first plate full but couldn't as it was thst good Hats of to the chef and kitchen team....profession with high standards.....rosette worthy. A really good meal. The Chateaubriand was superb. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cocktails were sublime. Absolutely nothing to complain about & if we were in Kirkby Lonsdale would not hesitate to visit again.

Went for dinner Wednesday night was busy which is a good sign friendly staff bless them rushed off their feet didn’t get my starter but did get a free dessert and never had a pot washer green apron shouting from kitchen asking who asked for their steak cooked medium well then saying might aswell have a burger in future tell kitchen to mind there own business

We ate from the Sunday lunch menu and were more than pleased with the quality of food baked cheese soufflés to perfection roast beef hmmm and lemon tart dessert all beautifully presented and tasted delicious our service was exceptional and attentive our personal waitress Charlotte was effervescent charming and amusing service with a smile Thank you for making our occasion special If there was to be criticism is was the musician who played 2hrs of drudge!! and other diners also seemed unimpressed however this was a small complaint and would most definitely recommend this restaurant Ps we sat in the restaurant area and found this most comfortable too

Not worth going ,I went with my husband for dinner, the menu is limited to say the least ,our waitress was off hand and rather rude . My husband was facing the open kitchen and was able to see the burger I ordered was out of a packet Very disappointing ,It was one of the worst meal I have had in years !

Carrying on the Sunday Lunch menu into the evening is a good idea, especially as we were caught up in a massive M6 jam, and so really appreciated the choice of menu, the pleasant staff and the decor. Would certainly recommend.

Visited on a Thursday evening for my husband’s birthday. The Plato’s staff were isolating due to Covid so staff from The Longlands Hotel were on duty and they did an amazing job. The service was fantastic and the food and wine excellent. Couldn’t fault it!...

What can I say? Excellent from start to finish! Stayed here along with a couple of friends for the New Year's Eve celebrations. Made very welcome by 'mine host' Alex who quickly checked us in and told us what the score was for the evening celebrations. The room (no.4) was beautifully decorated with lots of space - and a welcome fridge to put our drinks in. Bed huge and very comfortable with luxurious bedding. Only one thing to point out-no wardrobe.... a very minor point but if staying longer could be an issue for some. The hotel was closed to the public from 5.30pm to prepare for the evening celebrations - bookings only - for the special dinner and DJ. The evening menu was a very good choice but two of us went for the pork dish which was like a huge tomahawk steak - on the bone -covered in a tasty bourbon glaze, served with a rice, black pudding and potato side. To die for! So tasty.... The other choices and courses were just as nice. Once the meal was over Alex managed to get us a different table nearer the dance floor and we all had a ball until around 2am! The room, the evening, the food the service just couldn't be faulted. Staff fantastic, all very welcoming. Morning breakfast was to the same standard. A few sore heads were eased with a beautifully cooked full English breakfast to finish off. Looks like we'll be rebooking for this year!

We had an excellent private party for @ 20 people downstairs with excellent food, service and ambience. Alex looked after us the best and all the staff were great

When we arrived at Platos we were taken aback at how stunning the bar/restaurant looked with the Christmas decorations- well done Alex! We had a fantastic evening. It was very well organised and the food was amazing. All the staff worked extremely hard to ensure the evening went smoothly. The call my bluff wine tasting was a fun way of introducing new wines and we didn't do to badly guessing the correct wines from the different descriptions. After a very comfortable night's sleep we had the full Cumbrian breakfast which was superb as usual. Many thanks to Alex and the team for a really enjoyable stay.

We had the most wonderful Friday night at Plato’s. The staff were absolutely brilliant and could not have been more attentive. It was the Christmas Fair in Kirkby Lonsdale, so everywhere was extremely busy but we managed to squeeze in for some cocktails. We annoyingly ordered about 5 different types of cocktails but nothing was too much for the staff. We ended up staying all evening. Definitely worth a visit!

We were booked in, raring to go on a Saturday, 6pm. Sadly the menu is extremely limited - only 6 main courses, 33% game; 33% vegetarian; steak or fish - that was it!! So, not willing to pay £28 for a steak, sadly, we had our drinks and left. Very disappointed.

We celebrated one of my dear friends wedding reception at this fantastic venue . stepping through the door myself & husband we’re totally impressed by the beautifully decorated bar with white linen table cloths , freshly arranged flowers & candles it was so tasteful . The little courtyard was so pretty to with lovely lights I’m sure it’s equally as nice in the summer . Staff front of house were very friendly and couldn’t do enough . Food was amazing and can’t wait to go back .

The four of us had two rooms for one night with breakfast. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we cannot find fault. We held our Wedding Celebration here and the event was wonderful, we were delighted with everything. We really couldn't have asked for more. Beautifully decorated with white linen and exquisite fresh flower arrangements, fabulous food (every single guest commented on how great it was) and excellent service. Those who stayed over raved about the rooms and delicious breakfast. All our guests were so well looked after by Alex and his great team. Front of house and behind the scenes, they all did Plato's proud.

I was honoured to be invited to a wedding celebration.. I am local so I know the business ,but how they transformed it for the event was amazing Alex Matty and Jamie not forgetting those in the kitchen you super stars .. then making it back for evening service was inspiring no one felt uncomfortable and those from away loved it x it was unique personal and fun thank you x

Plato's is a great place for a quiet getaway. The rooms are gorgeous with great beds with wonderful decor. The restaurant is also a delight with amazing food and top quality service! All the staff at Plato's are fantastic and really helpful and there's a great cocktail menu too!

Booked platos while staying in a village near by and was blown away , incredible experience with my family sat in a quiet corner , the food was nothing like I’ve had before and best meal I’ve ever had , quality ingredients and worth the money for a special occasion , we went on an Wednesday evening as a mid way trip meal and made extra special , I’m vegan and the option was everything I loved (Harissa cauliflower , freekeh, tenderstem broccoli, tahini and roasted chickpeas)all perfect while my parents got the ribeye , great service and memorable meal at good standard , good portions and well satisfied

We stayed for a week and had a fantastic time. The room was lovely and the powerful hot shower was one of the most delightful experiences after a busy day.The food and cocktails were top notch. You could tell this was the place to be as every night the restaurant and bar were full of guests who weren’t staying.The staff by far were the best thing about this hotel. They were professional and helpful but above all personable which really made us feel at home.Would definitely stay again if we find ourselves up that way!

We visited this restaurant whilst staying in Kirkby Lonsdale as it was only a short walk from our hotel.From the moment that you arrive until the moment that you leave the service from the wonderfully friendly and charming staff is 5*.My partner had the cured Mackerel as a starter which was, she said, delicious.For the main course she had the Halibut which was excellent whilst I had Goosnargh Chicken which was really nice.Both dishes were served with fresh local produce.For the desert we choose to share the cheese board which consists of locally sourced cheeses.Every aspect of the dining experience was " Super"

We are on holiday and looking forward to a nice meal with good service. Unfortunately the restaurant had obviously struggled to get staff, and although each individual were polite and helpful there appeared to be no one managing , so the staff that had experience were overloaded and our waiter, a young man who was on his first shift , tried his best but had obviously been given no training. Although the food was well presented , quality was severely lacking and it was not value for the £96 bill . A very disappointing evening

This lovely old character hotel is stylishly decorated. And staff very friendly and dogs very welcome treats always available. Comfortable homely but professional. Our room was delightful not massive but every thing you need and decorated really lovely. Tea coffee facilities laid expertly and club biscuits were delicious. Bed really comfortable. Bathroom modern with shower over the bath which was large and comfy. We had a great view over the high street which was lovely to see. Our golden retriever loved her stay having treats in a bowl waiting and a dog- rug and blanket. Breakfast fantastic every time. Dinner excellent Amazing time. We will come back.

We really enjoyed our stay here with our dog. We were in the loft room at the top which was comfortable and spacious. You cannot park near the hotel but they do give you a parking permit. Breakfast is to order and there isn’t much choice but it’s nice and well cooked. They make the dog feel welcome and the location is great as there are a number of pubs and shop closeby. What we did find strange is when we arrived we couldn’t get any food and not even a packet of crips so we had to go to the Spa next door. But all in all it’s nice and service is good

We had a 3 night stay at the hotel and booked into the restaurant for the first night. The food was excellent and the service was professional and friendly. We enjoyed it so much we booked again for our last night, and again, could not fault anything. I even commented to my husband the food is like something you would see on Masterchef the professionals! Just wish I lived closer. Will definitely return for a visit.

We were staying one night and booked in for dinner. We both had an excellent meal. My starter was 3 different types of beetroot with goats cheese and pickled walnuts. All courses were delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were great. Despite being really busy the 2 young men who served us were so polite and cheerful. We hadn't eaten here for a while due to the pandemic and went for dinner Friday 6th August '21. We thoroughly enjoyed it.The menu was well chosen and had some very interesting dishes.All three of our meals were delicious and very well presented.The staff were excellent and ensured we were happy with our meals.We enjoyed the friendly buzz in the restaurant and bar and this contributed to a really enjoyable night out.

Excellent customer service. Alex exceptional. Best breakfasts ever. Room very clean and comfortable. Could do with more coat hangers only minute criticism. Would definitely go again.

Excellent hotel in a great location within the beautiful welcoming town of Kirkby Lonsdale.Alex and his team were very welcoming and friendly, we had a cocker spaniel with us called Rolo who was catered for amazingly and spoilt rotten.Had a great relaxed atmosphere and would highly recommend.

firstly if you haven't been to KL do go..it surprised us...really lovely. The food here was very good..perhaps a little expensive for what we got but all good quality ingredients and very tasty ...id go back

Made a completely unscheduled stop at Platos last night having had complete car failure as we turned onto the A65 at Devils bridge and were forced to wait 4 hours for a recovery service.The amazing staff couldn’t have been more helpful, finding us a table, despite not having booked on a Friday night. Great food and drink and let us hang around whilst they cleared up and we were still waiting for news of our recovery. At 10.15 we were told this wasn’t going to happen until this morning and that a taxi would be sent to get us back gone across the Dales. Skeptical about the time it would take the AA to find a local taxi in Kirkby at that time of night, one of the staff genuinely offered to drive us across to Skipton (some 45 minutes away). It’s a times of trouble that you find brings out the best in people and places, and Platos didn’t fail to go above and beyond. That’s how you know that this really is a true 5* venue as it’s built into the businesses DNA.So thanks a million Platos. You made a disaster turn out into a great meal and we all got home by 1am!!! Even better news, the AA moved the car from the bridge at 9am this morning.See you again very soon.

We ordered two mackerel starters for £9 each. We asked for the head and tail to be removed expecting to receive a whole fish. We should not have bothered as what we received was a portion so small it was the size of a finger. The main was OK but fine dining at this price is not fair. We mentioned it to the waiter and all he said was "I will inform the chef"
