Plaice on the Green in Fareham

Would have been five stars but no curry sauce, otherwise excellent, best fish and chips in area by a good margin.

First time visiting here as heard great things, they didn't disappoint! Arrived with lots of people waiting so thought I'd be waiting ages, ordered chips & a battered Sausage and straight away they gave it to me! Food was hot and great price for what you get, perfect for just one person, super yummy. Curry sauce is delicious too. Will be coming back!

Bought haddock & chips Saturday night 5th July, not cheap at £12, chips were disgusting, not a full chip amongs't the lot, all bits & un eatable as they were like schrapnel, whatch your fillings. I reckon these were chips left over from lunchtime & were bone dry. Not the first time this has happened & I will definately not be going back !

Generally good fish and chips, but occasionally the chips will be a bit pale or the fish greasy. Very popular in the area compared to other such businesses.

Had chips only. Cold by time I got home. Lots of black chips, due to temperature they were all stuck together. Not nice at all.

Very disappointed. Paid nearly £5 for some chips and when I got home and opened them I t was all the bits and Remember these were given away as a kid won't be going back thats for sure

Staff were rude and didn't take my order correctly. Food was probably the worse I've had in years. Chicken and mushroom pie was so dry it had probably been in their hot counter for a few days. The fish cakes were bland and had no taste what so ever and the chips were all stuck together and not cooked properly. I'll never ever go here again .

The fish & chips are cooked to perfection with very pleasant service. They are without doubt the best in the area. Easy free parking right outside.

Walked in 8.40 pm asked for Cod & Chips, The nipper behind the counter turned and shouted at someone else, ARE WE STILL FRYING? I looked at my watch, well its 20 minutes till you close, why wouldn't you be? anyway begrudgingly they started to cook my fish, and looked like they re fried the chips. a gentleman walked in a few minutes later asking for Fish, only to get we've stopped frying........ its now 15 minutes till close. so he was offered what was in the warming tray, then another gent came in..... same thing... so when i was on my way out I felt the need to say something, Look if your closing times is 9 pm then you should be cooking fresh food up till 9 pm. Its a closing time not the time you should be home and in bed. the skidmark of a kid behind the counter lust looked at me blankly. anyway appalling food even worse service... won't be using that place again.

Just parked outside chip shop and saw one of the young male servers spend 30 seconds picking his nose. Luckily the shop was empty. A couple of minutes later he did it again. As a result I didn't bother going in. Also older female server over the fat fryer had long grey hair not even covered. Have been going to this chip shop for years. Some things are better unseen. Yuk PS just a thought, check your mushy peas.

Great place to go for a great fish and chips

Popped in to get portion of chips & fish cake, reasonably priced. Chips & the fish cake were hot & tasted good aswell, friendly staff behind the counter also

Fish is always great as it’s cooked to order but the chips are always terrible, dried up scrappy little crispy chips. Which appear to have been cooked several times. Such a shame

This was recommended by a fellow boater on the Hamble. So glad he did. Excellent. Small queue outside but thats always a good sign. I will definately be a regular customer.

The Best fish and chips anywhere.

This is the first place that comes to mind when we can’t be asked to cook. Always great food, always friendly service! I couldn’t fault them.

Yet again, never fail to disappoint. The chips at this place are scraps of potatoes reheated from the lunch time opening. The operators really need to stop this practice. Fish was OK though.

Best fried fish in the area, I tried them for the first time today and I am already in love. I had the haddock twice, slightly battered!! My go to place from now. Great customer service.

Called at the chippy on way back from being dragged round Fareham, my wife and I had chips fish and pea fritter, could not fault the taste, superb, keep up the good work !!!!

A word of warning, if you like your chips refried then this is the chippy of choice. Get there early enough on the evening opening and you will be served chips that weren't sold during the previous lunchtime session, refried and double chewy.....just a word of caution. Even the guy that owns the chippy in Park gate said the same to me a few weeks back......my advice is to wait until 7pm, then you'll get the fresh chips.

Staple of the community for 20+ years and always fantastic!

Definitely the best chippie l have ever been to, and that hight standard has been maintained throughout my time in Park Gate, some 13 years. The chips are always excellent, crisp on the outside and well cooked inside and the haddock is a winner. The serving staff are young, efficient and friendly and the experienced "Friers" keep a watchful eye of proceedings whilst continually producing great fish and chips. We don't go that often these days, but it is definitely our "Go To" chippy, I'd even travel miles to use them.

I bought jumbo sausage and chips on a Tuesday, for the price I would have expected a lot better. The chips were small and bitty not at all like chips more like the dregs of left overs. The sausage was overdone as if left in the warmer all day. Very very poor quality

Sorry but were disappointed with our visit. Food wasn't hot and lunch time chips probably reheated? .. that were tepid at best. Batter was thin and patchy on battered sausages.

£15 best spent elsewhere over cooked fish too dry and hard and inedible bits of chips not a decent chip in the whole portion sorry 2 portions won't be going there again had to leave e one star to leave a review but its a -7from me and my wife

Really nice take away cod and chips at lunch time. We took them to Swanwick Shore to enjoy them by the Hamble river. Chips here were the best we've had in the area.

The second poor Saturday dinner. Last weekend - cod over cooked and dry. Massive portions of chips, half of which were inedible- too small, dry and hard as nails. This evening, chips the same and mince and onion pie dry. Really gone off the boil. Come on guys. Time to try elsewhere.

Just had the worst fish and chips ever. Left almost all of it. Fish was as thin as a credit card. The chicken and mushroom pie was cold and the chips left a lot to be desired. We wont be back

This review relates to experiences some months ago. We had returned from a birdwatching experience at Warsash and were famished, arriving at this place just as it was about to close. Unable to cook what we wanted, we made do with the leftovers in the hot cabinet which included pea fritter, sausage in batter etc. Having asked about fish and told we were too late, the staff team must have felt sorry for us and said they would cook some if we wanted (despite being prepared to close). I declined as this generosity required a good grace response. First star. My family raved about its quality and freshness of the fritter (star) and sausage (star) and fish cake (star) and although I only had chips, these were fat and fluffy with a crispy outside. Final star. Thanks POTG.

Probably the best fish and chips we have had, awesome fish, chips and battered sausage. The oil used is very nice.

This is local to us. It's the second time we have been here in the last 2 months to find the chips are just crispy scraps. We had a large chips and the two of us struggled to get a decent meal out of them. The large cod was good. Double cheese burger at £2.40, not good, it consisted of a piece of plastic cheese, served with 2 very dry, skinny burgers. We won't be back, we will go to the Fish and Chip Shop at Park Gate.

Excellent 5 stars all round. Ordered by phone and food was ready. It was the most fantastic fish and chips we have had for years.

Fare absolutely disgusting chips cooked about 5 days ago , fish supposed to be cod not from this planet this chip shop is on a slippery downward spiral , you are fleecing your patrons , i will never frequent in the future . Friday 10th September 2021 .

My wife and I just returned home with haddock,cod and chips. Absolutely delicious. We both said ' best we've had in ages'. Quick service and really well cooked. Crispy batter and top chips👍 Will be back soon

Very friendly service but the chips let them down terribly. Very dry, crispy, overcooked and hard. Not helpful for pensioners when we ordered the seniors fish and chips. The batter was also overcooked on the fish. Very disappointed!

We keep our boat in the marina down the hill and the Plaice on the Green was recommended to us by another boat owner. We use them regularly now and have never been disappointed. The quality has always been good and the portions are large - very good value for money. My wife is very fussy about fish and this is one of the few chippies that she has never criticised.

Nice food but portion sizes stingy, I remember when they actually used scales to weigh out chip portions like they were dealing with gold not potato! Today the gentleman took a scoop and kept shaking the chips off with an overly worried expression that he may end up giving away to many.

First visit to this chip shop. Staff were friendly. Prices are good. Reason for 3 stars was because we had 4 portions of chips and they all contained alot of scraps. The actual chips we did find amongst them were really nice just a pity there wasn't more of them

Excellent fish and chips - well prepared and always tastes really fresh - not like some chippies where it tastes like the oil is a week old. Portions are enormous - we often can't finish them. We keep our boat in the marina just down the hill and everyone here goes to The Plaice on the Green for supper, so this is not just my opinion.

Very good quality chips and very good quality battered fish. This place is consistently good and is owned by the same people since it started.

Just the best quality around. Beware of the large chips, and give serious thought to getting small chips - you have been warned!

Fish is properly cooked, chips are obviously cut and peeled here and everything is fresh and tasty. The cooking oil is the best... obviously you don't get that quality of flavour and such a good result without a lot of experience and effort. Great place for fish and chips *****

Haven't tried the other chip shops in the area I can honestly say this is the best. You won't be disappointed.

Ordered in advance to speed up the process and was given a pick up time but when I got to the shop I was told to join the turn up and order shop queue which went half way down the street and would have taken me an hour just to get back in to collect what should have been ready an hour ago. I drove away and left it, sorry, but I don't want to stand in a queue watching my order get cold.

Use to be the best chippy in the area BUT, over the past year or so thay have become the most expensive, they weigh out your chips using scales and those chips have been undercooked and soggy with fat. Unless they improve on price, quantity and quality, we will not be using them again!

The fish is always tasty, batter crispy and golden brown, just as it should be. Chips are hot And portion size is good. Staff very friendly. Premises clean and tidy.

Fish and chips were delicious but the haloumi fries were burnt to a crisp and the fishcake was heading that way. Shame as they're normally superb all round.
