Richmond Bridge Club hosted a Cafe Bridge in June 2024. We asked ten restaurants in Richmond to participate. Pizza Express kindly offered their services. They did so last year as well. They were very kind in helping us set up the event and to accommodate all the players that went through the restaurant during the day - from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The participants, 24 people, who had lunch at P.E. were very complimentary. Excellent. We will ask them next year too!

I took my father who was visiting from Ireland to Pizza Express to kick off his 70th Birthday weekend. The service was fantastic, we were looked after by a really cool Italian waiter, who kindly recommended the best beer for my father, Italian of course! There was a live singer and accompaniment which really added to the atmosphere. We had a great view and nice seats. I did request if the singer could oblige on this occasion and sing Happy Birthday , the waiter asked her but said it was up to her. Unfortunately, she did not sing Happy Birthday. However the amazing Italian waiter and another waitress came to the table with some cake and sang! It really was so nice of them to sing and it really topped the evening off. Plus, the pizza and wine were amazing. What a great evening!

A very good place to meet for a three generation family gathering. We much enjoyed our early supper - recommend the starters of larger dough ball plates with dips and lemony thyme chicken wings and buffalo mozzarella salad. Main course salad portions generous and everyone enjoyed their various pizzas. Rosa our waitress was excellent and coped with a smile and patient good humour with the confusion of 9 different family members trying to order together. It is a spacious restaurant so that we could chat without disturbing other diners.

We ended up here because there was a 2 hours wait at Franco Manca and we were a large group of families with kids. This "pizza" restaurant needs to seriously reconsider their claims of serving "pizza". I suggest the bosses at this company go to some Italian restaurants and see/taste a real pizza. Go across the road and that would be a good start; study your competition. Takeaway pizza is much better than theirs, waaaay better. The dough is hilariously tasteless and thin. Their ingredients combination have nothing to do with pizza. And their prices are seriously eye watering. Then once you've finished, they have the cheek to add a service charge of over 10% to the bill. A pizza and a drink each, average £25, and that includes kids. So out of a £300 bill we unknowingly left over £40 service charge and also gave a cash tip. We only realised we had been charged this fee after we left. Very bad business practice. Next time I'll invite everyone around mine and get some takeaway pizza for a fraction of the price. The only positive note was the young man who served us who was polite and efficient. I hope that at least the "service charge" went into his pocket and not that of the stakeholders.

Reliable Pizza Express food and good value with Tesco vouchers. It's a large restaurant and it was pretty busy when we visited late on a Sunday afternoon. Sadly the service throughout was very indifferent from when we were first shown to a table to when we left. Went into this Pizza express on a Saturday evening. Having previously been here and received excellent service we were hopeful of getting the same this time. However, this was sadly not to be. We were shown to a table and duly ordered food and drinks . I also asked for a jug of water. The drinks came but no water. I noted that they were busy so decided to give them time. The starters arrived quickly and were fine. There were four of us and three mains arrived together. We then had a wait for the fourth. After a short while this arrived. We noticed that the polenta chips we had ordered had not arrived. We queried this and were told that it would be chased. A while went past and we asked again. This time the waitress said that she would query this. She came back and said that she was sorry but the chefs had forgotten them and they were cooking them now. Another long wait occurred and we asked again! This time she apologised and went to chase them again. Finally, just as we had nearly all finished our meals the elusive polenta chips arrived! Sadly although having asked for a jug of water multiple times, after several excuses it never materialised . For the prices they now charge, I expected better Pizza Express.

We often go to Pizza Express, especially in Wimbledon Village, but this was the first visit for a long time to Pizza Express Richmond Red Lion St - and the last. We had a really awful experience. It was late on Sunday evening - not many diners, but even fewer waiting staff. It took a while to take our order, the shared starter and drinks arrived ok. Then began the long long wait ! Eventually we noticed some pizzas on the service counter in the distance and I said jokingly to my partner, they can't be ours ! No waiters or waitresses in sight ! After another 10 minutes or so, by which time we had been at our table for nearly 45 minutes, I found a waitress and asked when our pizzas would arrive - to my astonishment, she went to the service counter and brought the two pizzas which had been sitting there and of course, they were stone cold and curling at the edges. At which point we gave up, asked for the bill for starter and drinks and walked out. The manager then magically appeared out of nowhere and offered to redo the pizzas for free but by this time it was just too late and anyway where was he when he was really needed to wait at the tables ? Don't ever go there !

There are some branches of this chain I hate because they're huge places with no soft furnishings, and it doesn't take many people talking for the noise to be unbearable. This place seems to have conquered that, (I suspect sorcery, although it might have something to do with the decor, which I think has noise dampening super powers). The service was quick and friendly, the food was standard pizza express fare, I'm a particular fan of their Bosco salad, which is just delicious, and the kind of salad which is a proper, satisfying meal, and doesn't leave you feeling jealous of your pizza-eating friends (and may even inspire some envy in your direction).

I'm sure most people have visited a pizza express at some point or another and got to expect a usual standard if service, especially being a chain restaurant that I am sure has guidelines on customer service/food etc which is why I was surprised and disappointed at my experience in the richmond branch. We were left waiting a long time in the door way even thought there wasn't a queue. A waitress made eye contact with us three times but didn't even ask us to hold on apologise for the wait. The bad service continued from there with long waits for our orders to be taken and the food arriving even though it wasn't busy in the restaurant and there were plenty of staff on hand. My side didn't arrive so I chased this up, was nodded at with no verbal response from a surly waitress and clearly ignored as the side never came. The food was mediocre and service slow and 'slap-dash'.To top this off, I emailed pizza express head office in January, had a generic reply come through 11 days later saying I would be responded to in 28 days (bit of a long wait, must have a lot of complaint emails to deal with!) and heard nothing more. I chased this up after the 28 day period and still have heard nothing. I have now been waiting upwards of 50 days to get a simple acknowledgement or apology from a human being. If you can't get good service in the restaurant nor from the head office, it is clear they don't value their customers. I am left severely unimpressed with the whole situation and wont be returning.

Went here using the tesco vouchers on a deal, and must admit I was pleasantly surprised. It's a big restaurant and in a modern style which could make it look a bits less attractive to couples. We were a 5 and had kids in the party so it fitted us fine. I'm not a great pizza person in the main but the food was excellent, the dough balls were brilliant and the various pizzas we had were great, very thin base. The puddings were huge, and the service was good. All in all a great place to go, just don't expect a traditional old world pizza place it's not that but still good.

We called in here after a few drinks & post Xmas-shopping trip . It was a freezing cold night and we were not in the mood to wander far.Firstly its on the large side and surely one of the bigger chain Italian places in town. The décor is modern and we were seated at a booth style table. A touch I liked was the showing [ silently ] of old Black and White Italian movies - maybe its in context with the Art deco style of the building itself. Our food was good - I had a Risotto starter and we both had Pizza's. However my wife ordered a Gluten free version and top marks to Pizza Express for catering to this particular requirement. The service was friendly and OK-ish. Mark off though for the waitress taking the chili oil off our table when I wasn't finished with it . The salt police rule here clearly and you have to ask for it [ or we did anyhow ] but noticed that there appeared to be none on other tables. Finally I do agree with the suggestion from a previous reviewer if there might be an Adults/couple area - its certainly big enough - and that would keep everyone happy.

Have been to many Pizza Express Restaurants around the area and thought it would be worth a try to visit Richmond's for some lunch with friends. It is a massive restaurant, maybe 4 times the size of what I am used to, but staff were still very attentive and focused meanwhile welcoming. The food is consistently mouth-watering and I am considering putting a whole day aside where I can just binge out on heaps of calzone, cheesy garlic bread and cheesecake from Pizza Express to fix my ongoing cravings since visiting last week.I see there are some very harsh reviews but I really believe it depends on where you go and what you expect. Pizza Express is not trying to be fine dining so don't go expecting fillet steaks and dauphinoise potatoes. But if you order something with cheese I guarantee it will be melted and stringy :) The dough that they use is so morish!! Also happy for a good choice of wine on the menu, thank you.

Really appalling quality food, certainly not up to the usual standards of Pizza Express.Even for a cheap-eat, this place is somewhere to avoid. My calzone resembled a cornish-pasty than a "Neopolitan delight". Meanwhile, my girlfriends pizza was so thin and so undercooked that it had holes in it! The food was also sitting on the counter for 10 minutes before being served. An absolute disgrace. They offered to re-make the dishes, by that point the prospect of Sainsbury's Local appealed more, and we walked.Another annoyance is the screaming children across the whole restaurant. They could easily set up a children-free area for those who want to eat in peace!

We visited Pizza Express in Richmond on Sunday 30th June, our first visit to this restaurant and we were very disappointed. There was a large party of adults and children, the parents were allowing the children to run around the restaurant, tearing between the tables and jumping up on to the banquettes and running across them. At one point three children ran into a table and wine glasses smashed over floor so that the staff had to clear up the broken glass. Other children ran in front of staff carrying heavy plates and were causing significant stress. The waiting staff spoke to the parents many times whilst we were there but the parents did nothing to stop their children. The staff tried to stop the children themselves but as the parents has ignored the staff the children did too. We were told that this was quite normal behaviour in this specific restaurant so we won't be visiting the Richmond branch again, it's disappointing but the Kew branch is not far away and children seem to have better behaved parents there!

Whilst this location I'd different and interesting...we had to return the coleslaw as it tasted and smelt as if it had left uncovered/unprotected from other cohabitants in the fridge where it had been stored. Whilst his was handled well by the service staff, the chef in the open plan kitchen area stood and glared at us throughout the rest of our meal... needless to say we did not accept the offer of an alternative! We accept that things can occasionally go wrong, however we do not expect to feel intimidated for daring to pointout a fault! ...not a good experience.

Pizza express is a good place to eat with kids as there is always something they like on the menu, the food was okay. The building was quite nice but not as nice as other pizza express restraints. service was less than average!!!!

First of al II'd like to point out that the Pizza Express on Hill Street closed several years ago & it's now at Red Lion House, Red Lion Street, just around the corner. I ate regularly at the Hill Street restaurant for many, many years but now I hardly ever go to the new one. It's very large & noisy & the service isn't good. I used to go for family birthdays because with young children it's more suitable than a smarter restaurant. We all agreed that it wasn't as good as the previous, much smaller restaurant. About three years ago it had a revamp which is so unattractive that I've not been since, until recently when I took a friend there at his request,The food was good as it always is but the service was bad & my friend was no more impressed than I was & hated the decoration too. I certainly won't go again. I've reviewed Pizza Express in Canterbury & Leamington Spa & given them both five stars.I'm disappointed that my favourite pizza was discontinued some years ago, pizza noci - gorgonzola & walnut.

You do not have to go to an expensive Italian restaurant for your pizza after going to the cinema. Pizza Express is just by the cinema and you can have amazingly cooked, brilliantly bonkers food for a price you can afford !

I frequently eat at a number of different Pizza Express Restraunts with the grandchildren and always order the Calabrese Pizza for me. Every Pizza Express makes the Calabrese slightly differenty...more of this less of that...but this pizza was down-right skimpy. Unfortunately it was a take-away and I didn't see how skimpy it was until I got home. Only 2 bits of sausage on the entire pizza a and pretty thin layer of rocket. In their defense, I returned a week later and explained about my meager pizza with only 2 pieces of sausage and they gave me a complimentary Calabrese. Took it home again...this time there was more sausage (4 pieces) but the layer of rocket was still pretty meager. There are a lot of Pizza Expresses in the area, in the future I'll eat at at PE that I know makes the Calabrese more to my liking.

Called in at a busy time on Sunday. There were 9 in our party and we were led immediately to our table.Quick service. Excellent pizzas and children's menu was sufficient. Grown ups had a good choice of desserts. Not the cheapest but good value. Would recommend.

would not go for the price, because of the taste (or lack thereof) and the volume. there are better pizzas everywhere, but somehow, this chain is everywhere. avoid at all cost.

I went here recently as I had a Taste Card. The service was good and the food was ok but the new layout of the restaurant just doesn't appeal. It felt quite sterile and a haphazard mix of different themes that didn't quite work. I wouldn't be in a rush to go back.

Called here on a Sunday evening and the place was busy. The restaurant is of modern appearance and has obviously been fitted-out in a 'contemporary' style, somewhat different to the usual modern but classic look of these outlets. This may well appeal to some but to me it looked a bit too bright and 'cheap'.The service was acceptable throughout although I was left waiting on a couple occasions. The staff were, however, polite and friendly and the food didn't take long to arrive. The quality was fine. The relevance of the black and white films projected onto the back walls of the restaurant was not immediately apparent but I was told that they are provided by head office ... presumable to add atmosphere.Although not an exciting experience I had no major complaints. Might try one of the independent Italian restaurants next time though.

Nice pizza express branch. I eat there at least twice a month for lunch: service is always efficient, and food is consistently ok.

The revamped Pizza Express is good fun, the servers are on the ball, and the pizzas are always very well prepared, crust thin and crisp, sauces or toppings fresh, and it is reliable and cheap- particularly with vouchers.

I booked at Richmond Pizza Express shortly after a refit in 2010 for a suprise dinner for my mum's birthday. The food was great (I nearly always have the Padana pizza - delicious!) but what made it even better is that they have these new booths around the outside of the restaurant where you can plug in your ipod and play your own music. I have never seen this anywhere - I thought it was great! The service was really good, and as with all pizza express restaurants, it wasn't too pricy either (especially for Richmond). Great evening out!

I was a fan of Pizza Express in the old days, but felt that they went off the boil as the portions got smaller and the prices increased. But I must say that I was impressed with my Pizza Diavolo with traditional base in Richmond. It was really pretty good for a British pizza. Hot and spicy with plenty of topping and a good base. My wife's Marguerita with 'extra' mushroom was a little disappointing as the topping was less than generous. Our coleslaw salad was fresh and pretty good. My gripe is that the atmosphere at Hill Street is very café-like: it's noisy and we were packed in like sardines. Has Pizza Express gone downmarket I wonder?

I am a regular visitor to this restaurant and I am always guaranteed a warm welcome. The restaurant decor is quite funky with old Italian movies being projected onto the walls. As at most Pizza Express restaurants you can see your food being prepared as the cooking area is inside the restaurant.I had Bruschetta con Funghi as a starter, which has become my new favourite and is delicious, and a Four Seasons pizza on a Romana (thiner and larger) base which was also excellent.I like that they serve their large glasses of wine in a small 25cl jug so that you can top your glass up yourself. The service is always great here - they have plenty of waiting staff and delivery of drinks and food is always prompt.

I was promptly seated at 715 on a Sunday night prior to my movie across the street.I was greeted with a menu and a drink. By 735 my food was ordered. Lasagne was ordered due to time I thought, and by 8 the food was not here, only a server listing "it's on it's way".Needless to say, I left hungry and disappointed and settled for popcorn at the theater for dinner.I won't be back.

Popped into our local pizza express in Richmond to try their new leggera pizza, This is the lighter pizza with salad in the middle. It was really nice, there was a choice of toppings and it was surprisingly filling. Hubby enjoyed one of their classic pizza's which are always tasty.I do though get frustrated by the new design with booths. I had booked a booth with an iphone dock so we could pop in for a bite to eat after work on a friday and listen to some music. Early evening the place is packed with kids (not a problem) but it's nice to get a booth with music facility and listen to your own noise. However, on the past 2 occasions including this one, the dock didnt work, We were told by a waitress that kids play around with the iphone docks and that none of the docks were currently working. Is this true or does pizza express need to sort out this system??? It took us a while to get used to the new funkier style pizza exp. Now I've got my head round the new concept, i wish we could go in, grab a booth, put our music on and enjoy our food.

Richmond Pizza Express have a new layout which is very much geared towards kids. There is a section for kids to play on computers and draw and read etc.... I would not recommend coming here on a Saturday evening for a romantic dinner - this place is full of kids and we loved it but would be gutted if we were out for a special meal for 2.

A group of us went this Sunday afternoon and this place was choc-full of very young screaming children and indeed it seems this restaurant is marketed as such so has balloons, child portions, high chairs etc. It was particularly busy for our visit and the service suffered. IT may well be a completely different experience after kiddies' bed time.If you're child averse this is about the last place on the planet you would want to visit but then again you can work this out for yourself at the doorway. I thought it was terrible and will not return.

We visited this Pizza Express, as were we going to the cinema, opposite, later. We had left ourselves 45 minutes for the meal. We were seated immediately, and our waiter promptly arrived. Order was placed, and promptly delivered. The food was excellent, as usual, and the service was really good (ensuring our wine glasses were topped up) better than I had experienced in the past. We left the restaurant pleased with food and service, and were in time for the start of the film!!

I went to PIzza Express at 7:30 p.m. earlier this week with a friend, with the intention of talking about a work opportunity.I know that Pizza Express is child-friendly, however, in the evening, I think it would be appropriate to shift the focus away from small children and over to an older crowd. The night we were there, a group of 4-7 year olds were merrily (and very noisily) wreaking havoc in the corner where the toys are and neither their parents or the staff were doing anything about it. To be fair to the staff, they were very busy and it isn't really their responsibility to look after their customers' children. My other comment is about the food itself, the pizzas were soggy and the salad was rather limp. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient though. All in all, 6 out of 10.

Disappointing on portion sizes - we left the restaurant wondering if in fact we were still hungry. I hadn't eaten at a Pizza Express for at least a decade and convinced my husband we should give it a whirl. I used to enjoy it and wanted to try it again - this was an itch I needed to scratch. I ordered what I thought was a Buddha Bowl. This dish has found its way onto many menus now and is usually a nourishing, satisfying and filling collection of nuts, pulses, grains and colourful veg. Sadly, I got what felt like a half portion buddha bowl. There was plenty of mindful chewing going on to make sure I was aware of every morsel! On more careful reading the menu does have the Buddha Bowl in the Salad section with a calorie estimate beside it so perhaps I should have expected it to be light on substance. On the other hand, salads can be satisfying, nourishing, delicious and filling - choosing to eat salad ought not to leave one hungry. My husband's pizza was lightly cooked, which I accept some people prefer, but when a lightly cooked pizza is served onto a cold ceramic plate it starts to cool very quickly. The pizza did not feel hot when it arrived at our table. There is no mention of pizza size on the menu - or none we could see. Had we known the standard pizza size was so small we would have ordered a larger size. As I said up top we left the restaurant wondering if we were still hungry and discussing what we had at home to fill the gap. A disappointing experience - but that itch has been well and truly scratched!

We were squeezed in despite it being packed just before an international game at the Twickenham rugby stadium. Reasonably priced compared to some others nearby.
