I visited today and couldn't recommend you more highly. My builder was absolutely thrilled with his pizza (he actually said it was the best one he had ever had!) and I genuinely left your restaurant feeling like my faith in humanity had been restored! Thank you ever so much once again, can’t wait to return when I have more time!

So poor! Adults £16 pasta dish was the size of my 3 year olds toddler food bowl!!! £30 on food that was not even big enough feed 2 children.

Not the best meal I’ve had in the Colchester restaurant. Very short staffed. The member of staff taking our order was not familiar with the menu. It was just very hit and miss. Menu was not explained. Self checkout does not discount menu items if you are a Pizza Hut app owner. Food not particularly hot. Will not be rushing back anytime soon.

Garlic bread and cheese was nice bit expensive for the size you got. We were first people in, they gave my friend the completely wrong meal and when we said it was yellow so didn't look like pesto we were asked if we eat here often which yes, then told the pasta had changed. We asked for more pesto to be added and the team chose to redo the meal but not inform my friend so waited a while. Proving the wrong meal had been given. Luckily they took this off the bill. My calzone isn't something I'd ever eat again white sauce and chicken it didn't taste great. If I ever go back it won't be in a hurry. They struggled to serve us while empty then got more difficult as it became busy.

ordered 17:36 (as per PayPal transaction time, you don't seem to record / display it anywhere in app), at the time app said 18:10 to 18:30 delivery time. at 18:10 it then said 18:15 to 18:45, at 18:15 it said 18:30 to 18:55 and so on until it said 19:10 to 19:35, it did state that the courier was at the restaurant. then the doorbell rang and delivered about 19:15. Once we ate, the app then alerted me to say it was out for delivery and asked for this review. Your system does not work.

Lovely service from Lisa - Very sweet, congratulated my son on his GCSE results (passed everything, very proud of him) and gave us extra-strong cocktails when we said we had a taxi to take us home. Very nice woman :)

Much improved service, mainly due to the waitress checking around the tables and being ready with menus, to take orders and bill requests, although she thought her service was slow as she was on her own this was significantly quicker than usual

Our family have been eating out at Pizza Express St Runwald Street in Colchester for the past 20 years and we can never fault the food or the atmosphere and especially the service,. So today, we had booked lunch for 1pm. Walked down earlier to see if we could get an earlier sitting but it was very busy and it wasn’t possible. We came back just before 1pm. The manager, Emma Jane was so apologetic that we MAY have to wait a few minutes for our table, as they were packed and waiting for a table to leave. In the end we were…2 mins late for our table!! 😂 Emma went over and above. Made such a fuss of us and made sure our first round of drinks were on her. So appreciated but not necessary, just a kind gesture that made us smile and realise we hadn’t been treated so nice by a restaurant in so long! Then, as usual we had the normal lovely service we have come to expect from the Colchester gang. Lovely food and once more, the fabulous Lisa looked after us. Honestly, if every restaurant had a Lisa, they would be lucky. She has looked after us before and she’s just the sweetest, attentive, professional and just plain loveliest waitress ever. She’s a MAJOR asset to your team. Thanks for a lovely post theatre lunch Colchester team, just sorry about the spilt apple juice 😂😂 Xx

Driver unable to follow instructions when lost or couldn’t find our house. Had to walk down to meet him roadside. This meant food was Luke warm so not the best experience of all time

Pizzas were bland the best thing about them were the thin crust. So poor. The starters were fine, but the mushroom arancini was terrible; almost no taste to it. Service was okay just seemed very ingenuine.

Food left outside door, no one knocked or rang the doorbell, tried to phone restaurant and the call wad answered and then the phone put down. Tried again, no answer. All the food is cold - terrible service all round

The food was delicious, the waitress was very helpful. Had to wait for drinks and dessert as there was only one staff serving the whole restaurant . So not a good place if you don’t have a lot of time. Given the circumstances, the waitress was a credit to your company.

Great food, not so sure about the waitress though who was probably approaching pension age🤔. Appeared rather rude and abrupt, whipping away plates even before you had finishined. Wasn't sure of the table no. and when serving, she exclaimed, 'is this yours'. There was no 'thankyou' either, when my daughter settled the bill and said, 'keep the change'.

Ordered at 7pm delivered after 10pm. Pizzas were obviously stone cold congealed & inedible. I have spoken with Pizza Express & they referred me to you. Very poor service. Have given 1 star as I cannot submit complaint without !

The order was over an hour late, cold and covered in black pepper which was too spicy for my child too eat. Would not recommend or use again.

Love everything about Pizza Express, especially the loyalty program, which makes the food almost embarrassingly cheap. Food quality always high, regularly updates to menu and new things to try. Especially good for kids. The kids meals are particularly brilliant. Also love the wide selection of drinks.

The delivery was late and when it arrived the box was cold. The pizza and dough balls were cold. Our young children were very hungry waiting for the food and sadly did not enjoy it when it arrived.

The food was delicious. I loved the thin crust. The tomato sauce that came with our sides was very garlicky, and I love garlic. So I did have bad garlic breath, lol.

Just love the pizza express in Colchester. Always a warm welcome and consistently fab food. If we’re lucky, Lisa will be working - she’s always so welcoming and friendly, exceptionally good at her job, so the food and drinks arrive swiftly. Emma was chef on our last visit and she made the most amazing food, best we’ve ever had there ! Many Vegetarian and vegan options, in fact a separate vegan menu, including desserts which is fabulous :0)

Completely Cold. And it wasn't the driver, she arrived 5 minutes after given the food by Pizza Express so it's been sat for ages in their kitchen then given to her. it tasted ok, but would have been even nicer if actually hot, or even just warm. For the price, never again. If you can't cope hire more staff don't give me cold food.

Restaurant was cold hardly any other customers and the starter were cold and the thin and crispy pizza was floppy and had to be sent back to be crisped up

The Pollo pizza was inedible as the dough was so undercooked- it was disgusting. It was spongey and wet.

We've just had a lovely meal at pizza express Colchester. The food was fabulous but our waitress Lisa was just amazing. So friendly, attentive, cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. Her Mum and the other staff were also very good. Will definitely go back.

The delivery person came to our location, sat outside then drove off without knocking and stole the food!! Just eat we’re useless and couldn’t offer any help or contact the driver. However I would like to say that pizza express were absolutely brilliant , really apologetic and cooked it again for us and we collected it. Apparently it happens a lot. Sad that just eat have this track record. But the food was amazing when we finally got it.

I always love Pizza Express. It's not just the food, but the welcoming staff and the broad range of ages of folk enjoying a meal out. The Colchester one's in a great central spot too

UPDATE: Visited Pizza Express again for their Valentine's Day Dough Ball Lovers Set Menu. (2 Coures £17.95 / 3 Courses £21.95) Although previously provided 5* (Inc 4* for food) we were extremely disappointed on this occasion. Having arrived and been seated, we appeared to had been forgotten about, for about 20-30 minutes. There were only a handful of tables and appeared sufficient staff. For starters; the 'Pollo Milanese', Buttermilk Chicken Goujons were lovely, hot and tasty. The Classic Dough balls on the other hand were over done and dry, however the garlic butter was great. The Mains; the 'New' Smokey BBQ Chicken Pizza and a BBQ Burnt Ends Pizza, both on Romana. Being fussy as I unfortunately am, I asked for no Roasted Peppers or Red Onions, but Mushrooms instead. Unfortunately when the Pizzas arrived the BBQ Burnt Ends came out with toppings missing (when had no amendments) and both pizzas were just not up to the previous experiences of Pizza Express quality. All in all we were left feeling very underwhelmed, especially with the quality of the food. This has put us off returning to this particular restaurant. - - - - - PREVIOUS REVIEW: 5mths ago Popped in for lunch last week, it was a quite Thursday afternoon. We were the only seated table during our visit, however there appeared to be numerous takeaways being picked up for delivery. A little disappointed that they had no Halloumi Bites (but means we shall have to return again to try these) As with previously review from over a year ago, restaurant clean, staff friendly and food good. (The Romana pizza base seemed different, the underside did not seem as crispy as per our previous visit, hence 4 stars not 5 for food). We would still recommend.. I noticed they advertised childrens party's, whereby the children get to make, master and then enjoy their pizza, sounded a really good concept. ....... Previous Review: Fabulous.. located just off the High Street, away from the hustle and bustle.. a real hidden gem. Having entered we were swiftly welcomed inside and shown to a table. The staff all appeared happy, they were polite and friendly. The restaurant had a lovely warm feeling and the decor was that of the typical Pizza Express chain. The toilets were located up a couple of stairs, (albeit I think there is a seperate entrance to avoid stairs) the the one used was tiled floor to ceiling and clean. The restaurant was clean and tidy, the staff were all attentive. The food was amazing. All in all.. well worth a visit.. We will certainly be returning, Great food & Great service.

Ordered from just eat at about 9:30 on Sunday and they accepted my order. I then got a phone call at 10:10pm saying that they closed 10 minutes ago and that I would have to call Just eat for a refund. Just eat never answer the phone so how am I supposed to get my refund and why accept my order if you know that you close soon and it takes 20 minutes for the oven to heat up. I ordered 40 minutes before they close so wasn't very happy!

My wife and I had lunch today in the Colchester restaurant . We both thought the pizza's we ordered were very good and the waitress 'Lisa' was great. however, the coffee I had with my meal was awful and expensive for the quality of the drink.

I wrote down the names of the maître d' and head chef, then promptly lost the note. They were experiencing low staff numbers, of which we were informed upon arrival, but the mâitre d' was a methodical whirlwind who, single handedly, conducted the restaurant with unfaltering efficiency and grace. She is an assett to the company. We thoroughly enjoyed our family meal and will return again upon our next visit to Colchester.

Taste was good but food was so cold that the cheese on the pizza had gone hard 😢 and the other pizza had so much bbq sauce on it that the toppings slipped off whenever a slice was picked up.

We came in for a bite to eat mid week lunch time. There were a few tables already sat when we arrived. Lisa who served us was amazing. Very friendly, males the experience feel special by treating everyone like they are the only thing that matters. She gets to know you and engages really well. She clearly loves her job and she is amazing at it. The food was great and the menu caters for lots of allergens. Myoartner has a dairy allergy and there is plenty of choice for her. We had spicy honey dough balls amd vegan mozzerella garlic bread. We then had a pizza each, one being vegan. All the food was delicious and no complaints from us. Service was excellent and timings of food perfect. Venue is tucked down the side of town hall of high street so quieter than other places. It's a smart venue and very light and airy. If you like this sort of food then highly reccomend this as a place to eat

Pretty good. Nice toppings generally. I wanted thin base for a healthier option and we got that. Pizzas were mostly warm, not hot. Garlic butter pots for dough balls did not survive the journey (and didn’t seem like they were packed with a journey in mind either.) The “40% favourites” are not very big, if you’re sharing better you upgrade to the bigger size. Cheese wasn’t remarkable. :/

It’s been a while. I think the last time we visited PE was a couple of years ago now and we were really glad we did … the restaurant itself has had a really nice facelift and their food game has really been upped with special Mention to the spicy hot ndjula dough balls , the burnt ends brisket romana and ndjula calzone which were all excellent . However the real reason for the decision to write a review is down to the fantastic service we receive d from the team both EJ the manager and Liam looked after us all so well , really engaging sincere in their desire to give us the best experience they could, really can’t rate them highly enough, best service we have had anywhere in a very longtime . Thank you .

Not sure what happened to this place, we’ve been coming here on and off since 2000 and never had a bad meal or service until tonight. Tonight (NYE) we booked a table around 7ish, several things unavailable on the menu which we were not told about until we ordered as they’d assumed we saw the notices on the door (which was held open by happy diners leaving). The service felt rushed despite the restaurant being half empty at this time, I get it was NYE and staff probably had plans but assumed an early table would be a good choice. The starters were lovely lots of chicken on the wings and the butterfly prawns although smaller than I’d assumed they’d be were plentiful and well seasoned. The mains less successful when offered seasoning, chilli oil etc the waitress walked off before we’d finished responding and 2 of the 3 pizzas were undercooked. I would’ve asked for mine to be put back in the oven as it was so doughy but, no one came back to see how food was and it was hard to attract their attention so ended up not eating the middle of my pizza. Deserts ok but the snowball doughballs just weren't right, only the top ones had flavour the rest were dry. possibly a bad choice on my part. The lemon roulade and brownie were lovely but they no longer do a chocolate ice cream. I really hope this was a one off as like I say we have never had a bad experience here before and it’s always been our trusted place for a good pizza.

With an anticipated delivery time of 30-45 minutes we actually received it 80 minutes after ordering. The food was stone cold upon its arrival. Will not be ordering from here again!

Went inside the pizzeria even though they are not officially open. Staff was accommodating. Did change my order and they were alright with it.

Me and a friend visited on 30/11-23, we had the most amazing meal after being out in the cold weather and our waitress Lisa was incredible, she was so warm and welcoming and she was just lovely. She had a laugh with us and just is the waitress you want to be serving you when you come here! So attentive too! Thank you Lisa for making mine and my friends evening after a long day!

We went to Pizza Express Colchester for a "make your own pizza" where my daughter was shown how to stretch her pizza dough, spread the tomato sauce, add thr cheese and basil to make her own Margherita pizza. It was then cooked in their oven and we ate it. It was nicely crispy! Daughter loved the experience, she leaned a few facts about pizzas and restaurants, and was very proud of her own pizza. She was told that it was very well made and they could have served one like that to their clients! Thank you Emma and Oxana for giving our children this opportunity!

My partner and I had a lovely experience dining here, Lisa who served us went the extra mile for us and made it such a pleasant experience. Chatty, thoughtful and kind throughout. I’ve always had a good experience at this particular restaurant but she really stood out. The food, as always, was excellent. 10/10.

2nd order was a take away , calermari was burnt,last time my cheese garlic bread was burnt , someone needs to tell these guys to stop this 😑
