Pizza Express in Colchester

My family came here last week and had a fabulous experience from start to finish. The food and drinks were good and Liam was a fantastic server who was so knowledgeable about everything on the menu. He was attentive, kind and fun and made the experience fab for my family, who were visiting from abroad. Thank you guys!

We went to Pizza Express for a catch up and dinner before the cinema and had a great experience, we both really enjoyed our meal here. The service was fairly good, the waitress was accommodating on our arrival to seat us at a different table from the one initially offered. At the end of our meal the manager was friendly and really helpful in applying my £10 e-gift card. To drink we ordered a Two for £10 Aperol Spritz, it was really good that this offer was available. We were charged the full price on the initial receipt that was printed, however this was quickly amended to the offer price at our request. To eat we ordered Calamari and Dough Balls ‘PizzaExpress’ to start and a pizza for our main courses. My friend ordered an American Classic Pizza and myself a La Reine Large Classic Pizza with an added Burrata. The Calamari was nice and came with a Caesar dressing and lemon though not the parsley mentioned on the menu. The calamari rings had breadcrumbs around them and would have been more enjoyable with a lighter, tempura batter. The La Reine Large Classic Pizza with an added Burrata was delicious and exceeded the expectations I had before we arrived, largely due to the size upgrade as the standard Classic seems a little small. This was even nicer with garlic oil, I was also offered chilli oil by our waitress. The burrata really enhanced the pizza as well. The only improvement would have been to have more olives and a slightly larger plate to fit the pizza. The only slight downside was the price of my pizza, this totalled £24.20 as the initial price was £15.75 with an additional £4.95 to upgrade to large and an extra £3.50 for the added burrata. The décor in the restaurant was nice, green leafy decorations had been added to the light fittings overhead which gave a really nice feel. The bathroom was suitably clean and serviced when I used it at the start of the meal. We really enjoyed our visit here and I plan to return to try more of their menu.

Excellent pizza party for our 9 year old. Such great value and so much fun. Cannot recommend this enough All of the staff were lovely, patient and very accommodating. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to Emma for her excellent hospitality and hosting of our daughter’s pizza making party. Our daughter and her friend’s had lots of fun making their pizzas and it felt calm and organised. Emma was quick to answer questions and make sure the kids had everything they needed. Highly recommend.

Such a great dining experience. We had such fun with the lovely Lisa serving us. She was super efficient and her lovely personality made it the nicest time we’d had there.

Delivered right on time and everything there. Food was good and also at a good temperature - we’ve had issues with Pizza Express orders being cold before but this was perfect. Also really love being able to buy the extra garlic butter as my daughter loves it so that makes it a nice treat.

Excellent as always from Pizza Express. The service was lightning fast and the servers were all very friendly. The food was all hot and delicious. The tables were a little cramped-together which made it difficult to get in and out or move around.

Delivery time was changed numerous times and I was going to cancel the order and pizza was cold when it eventually arrived

I like Pizza Express - Calzone is great. Family meal relaxed and staff friendly and helpful. I enjoy it and actually had another one for lunch last week on my own when in town! I will go back!

Pizza was stone cold on arrival

Lovely restaurant and food 1 poor moment spoiled our meal when my partner tried to treat us to cocktails she was told no the cocktails had to be ordered with food even though we had starters and were enjoying the mains which I was paying for. My wife just wanted to pay for a couple of cocktails as an extra it was an uncomfortable moment when she was no she could not buy us a drink. In all my years of eating out I have never heard of this very poor! What if we had ordered cocktails first drank them them looked at the menu and decided to eat else where?

We had an amazing waitress named Lisa who made mine and my wife’s experience amazing. From the start of our meal to the end providing us with top end services we will definitely be back for more. This was my first time coming to pizza express and they definitely left an excellent lasting impression.

Usual great food as you’d generally expect at Pizza Express, but a particular mention to Lisa, who’s served us a few times before. Was on a long shift and still took the time to be amazing, brought out food on time and still had a lovely smile to show for it. Well done!

We had my 7 year old daughter’s birthday party at Pizza express and it was so much fun. Nick was so patient, fun and engaging with the children. It’s was a great option for a winter bday party and everyone left happy and with a full tummy.

absolute joke ordered over 2.5 hours ago and food still hasn't arrived. Phoned the restaurant over an hour ago and was told the driver was 1 minute away from picking it up and food was ready for them to collect. Have tried calling back several times

The pizza and dough balls were both cold on arrival and had to be re-heated. Something I wouldn’t expect from a takeaway from a big brand like Pizza Express.

Went to Colchester branch, excellent service, wonderful meal. Team were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Was served by Yasmin this visit and she was excellent; knowledgeable, friendly and super helpful. Highly recommend.

Walked in to hear the staff moaning to each other about how they haven’t had a break and they was fed up, made us feel awkward and an inconvenience.. one member of staff looked like she was about to have a melt Down as she stormed into the back. Only 2 staff members serving food, taking orders, etc severely understaffed. Lovely food but very awkward as staff were clearly stressed. Also paying £7.45 for 4 doughballs with some bacon wrapped, bit of a joke.

I thought that Pizza Express pizzas would be a treat, how the pizzas wrong I was. Toppings portions were very small. The pizzas were cold. For what was received they were very over priced. I'll stick to The Perfect Chef in future.

This has happened multiple time’s whenever I have ordered from this restaurant. Every time the delivery time gets pushed further and further back. You try calling the restaurant and get no answer shocking all round really. Food is usually cold when it arrives.

The food was great and the service was excellent. Staff were very friendly and actually interacted with my 5 year old grandson. This was amazing that they didn’t overlook him but asked him what he would like.

Lisa & Emma are a force to be reckoned with. They both provide amazing customer service when the restaurant is already fully booked!! Went for a meal with my other half as we watched ninja turtles movie so needed a pizza. Service was great and food very tasty. Will defo go again soon for some tasty pizza.

After a conversation of "where shall we eat" I decided its been a while since I visited Pizza Express and in all honestly i'm glad I did, the food, the service was top notch, not a very long wait either. I'd highly recommend and also a big thank you to Emma who spared some time to answer a question. Will definitely not wait as long to go again.

Ordered at 1pm, food wasn’t delivered until 3:45pm, food was cold, it’s evident that it was made when I first ordered and then left for hours…

Took over an hour to deliver even though delivery time was estimated to be much less than that. When it did get here both the pizza and doughballs were stone cold. I’d have gone to the supermarket if I wanted to buy food I needed to heat up 🤦🏼‍♀️

As much as it is nice to have choices, there seems to be far too many restaurants in the High Street than other types of shops. Which is why I prefer this place, which is tucked away with a lovely quiet atmosphere Plus you receive a very warm friendly welcome and exceptional service from Lisa and her colleagues. This appears to be quite a rarity these days especially in the big known brand restaurants Thank you :)

Pizza Express can be hit and miss with service, but tonight I have to say that TJ and Deborah were excellent! If you ever head to Pizza Express in Colchester, they will treat you like the kings and queens that you are.

We've been coming here since 1997 when we had our first ever date here and it's our favorite Pizza Express. With our children who are now teenagers the vibe and food always good. The staff have been attentive and personable over the years. Currently we are always treated well by the lovely red lipped Lisa so a shout out to her.

Lisa Burke was so helpful, friendly and accommodating. An absolute gem of a member of staff.

That is the worst Macaroni cheese. It tastes like just milk, cheap mild cheese & mushrooms. And over priced.

i think the recipe has changed. it was so oily and the pasta was undercooked. i was very disappointed as this is my favourite dish usually

Me and my partner came in for a date Monday evening, and we were so happy with the service we had! The meal was delicious and I loved the new romano meatball pizza! We'll definitely be back again soon, thank you Yasmin for the service, you were lovely and took care of us!

So poor! Adults £16 pasta dish was the size of my 3 year olds toddler food bowl!!! £30 on food that was not even big enough feed 2 children.

Not the best meal I’ve had in the Colchester restaurant. Very short staffed. The member of staff taking our order was not familiar with the menu. It was just very hit and miss. Menu was not explained. Self checkout does not discount menu items if you are a Pizza Hut app owner. Food not particularly hot. Will not be rushing back anytime soon.

Garlic bread and cheese was nice bit expensive for the size you got. We were first people in, they gave my friend the completely wrong meal and when we said it was yellow so didn't look like pesto we were asked if we eat here often which yes, then told the pasta had changed. We asked for more pesto to be added and the team chose to redo the meal but not inform my friend so waited a while. Proving the wrong meal had been given. Luckily they took this off the bill. My calzone isn't something I'd ever eat again white sauce and chicken it didn't taste great. If I ever go back it won't be in a hurry. They struggled to serve us while empty then got more difficult as it became busy.

ordered 17:36 (as per PayPal transaction time, you don't seem to record / display it anywhere in app), at the time app said 18:10 to 18:30 delivery time. at 18:10 it then said 18:15 to 18:45, at 18:15 it said 18:30 to 18:55 and so on until it said 19:10 to 19:35, it did state that the courier was at the restaurant. then the doorbell rang and delivered about 19:15. Once we ate, the app then alerted me to say it was out for delivery and asked for this review. Your system does not work.

Lovely service from Lisa - Very sweet, congratulated my son on his GCSE results (passed everything, very proud of him) and gave us extra-strong cocktails when we said we had a taxi to take us home. Very nice woman :)

Always enjoy PE colchester, always a nice feel to the place. Foid was prompt and as expected. Consistent as always.
