Stunning food, don't understand why it was empty

Just love pizza express. Pizzas are always delicious. 😊

Friday evening and busy in there but our order arrived super quick and the staff are friendly and helpful. Nice venue too. The pizzas were spot on and Pizza Express remains my favourite pizza chain.

I do not ordinarily review chain restaurants on TripAdviser, but due to the excellent service and top-quality food, this venue is an exception. The staff were excellent, prompt and courteous to my family and I. The food was served hot and was clearly prepared with attention to detail. Although a relatively expensive venue, I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for and I have no problem in paying for a venue that offers excellent food like this.

We ended up there last night which was valentines, we were booked into the Italian but left as there was only a set menu which we hadnt been informed of. We were welcomed by a lovely lady I think she was the manager, she asked if we had a booking but then said they could fit us in as had a cancellation. She said a few had walked in from the Italian. The food was fantastic, service even better, every staff member had a smile and were very polite. The mix up from the Italian definitely worked in our favour. Thank you for fitting us in and welcoming us when we’d not booked with you. We will definitely be back when in the area

They saved the day, we went elsewhere but the menu was not good, squeezed us in without a booking. Thanks.

I’m basing this review off of the multiple times I have eaten here. The service seems to have gotten better over recent months, one visit a year or so ago was atrocious, but as I say, has got better. Food wise, you tend to know what you’re getting, decent pizza and starters, but rarely is it perfect. One particular time I ordered calamari, it came out looking a bit burnt, only to find the chefs had tried to hide just how burnt it was by putting each piece down with the lesser burnt side up. You’re not exactly spoilt for choice in Monmouth, Pizza Express is always a safe bet, but it won’t be winning any Michelin stars any time soon.

Amazing food and friendly staff!

I just done an Electrical test in this shop and I have to say the staff were amazing there very polite! The manager Lauren was really kind and welcoming and so was the chef today. They were very helpful with things while I was working here today. They made things easier as they knew the shop well. Very kind staff and helpful, a nice to place to visit to do a job if I'm being honest.

Lacking atmosphere, restaurant felt like a canteen. Food was good. Staff weren't sure what was included in offers.

Food and service very good but the price of the food ( Wow)

Booked for 6pm on a Sunday evening - it was fairly quiet but a really enjoyable experience with my two sons. They loved their pizzas and sides, I had the sloppy guiseppe which tasted great - it was their first visit to a pizza express and they really enjoyed it.

Nive staff, food was good, but we had to ask for the free kids meals, they were happy to charge us for them ( school holiday deal).

The manager on duty (Lauren) was so incredibly helpful and flexible. We really appreciated the personal touch as we passed through Monmouth. Great service and food. Thank you. The Keen family.

Lovely pizza, great service good atmosphere

Always very good but this time the classic pizzas were perfectly cooked by the lady chef who was working on her own in the kitchen on thursday. Service good and not too busy.

Got ripped off here a few days ago. They are affiliated with "TooGood To Go" who are a foodsaving business that connects businesses with customers with the aim of stopping food going to waste. This pizza express, maybe the others do it too, are taking advantage of this system by ripping people off. Disgusting.

Myself and my partner visited Monmouth Pizza Express on a Tuesday evening after a bank holiday. It was very quiet and we needn’t have booked. A number of items were unavailable because of how busy it was. It appeared well staffed but tables were left uncleared for a while. My drink arrived in a warm glass. The starters were terrible… we ordered king prawns and received no more than 4 edible, tiny prawns that had not been deveined, and were gritty, cold and unpleasant. Initially we thought it was someone else’s starter as the tiny prawns were buried under a mound of chopped up old tomato. Wretched. My pizza was delicious, however my partners pasta was undercooked. Al dente is one thing, but this was clearly undercooked and also cold. We left the starter, disgusted, but the waiter omitted to take it away, and we left the pasta too. The restaurant is large and ordinarily pleasant but the service is not desirable. The price is also outrageous considering other nearby Italian restaurants. Lastly, the chef is comfortable with leaving his tobacco products on his work station. I don’t doubt this is common practice behind closed doors, but in an open kitchen, is unprofessional.

Went for dinner this evening at Pizza Express but ended up having to get takeaway instead as children were too tired. Disappointed to find when we got home we'd been charged for two 3 course kids meals when we hadn't been given any desserts and also that the middle of the garlic bread was raw dough (properly raw and stringy). High prices given missing items and improperly cooked food.

I had a mixed kebab and chips, The staff are nice and friendly the place was clean and I would definitely call back.

Nice enough branch of pizza express. The staff were friendly and helpful and polite. The food was good. One thing I have a problem with is the price! Used vouchers to get part of the meal but I feel the prices have gone up considerably and the portion sizes have gone down for the starters especially. Disappointed with the price structure for the meals. Don’t feel it’s worth the money anymore to come to pizza express. The drinks are expensive too.

Happy, faultless experience - people say you know what you are getting with a chain, but that's no reason to fault it -the staff here were very pleasant and kind and the food was tasty. You can rely on a nice meal and pleasant experience, especially if you have the app and can get free stuff for your trouble.

Has a takeout meal from here a few weeks ago and it was burnt. Ate in last week and the pizza was burnt so had to return it. Yesterday had pasta for collection and no sauce on the pasta and chicken only luke warm. Dough balls tasted only half cooked too

Maddy was an excellent and friendly waitress. We called into Pizza Express after having had an awful experience in the Happy Panda Chinese Restaurant nearby. We were tight on time but Maddy was great. She was friendly and very helpful. She ensured our food arrived promptly and was more than happy to help me out with the Pizza Express app. She even put a candle on my pudding, as it was my birthday.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat as they were advertising a £7.95 offer in the window. Lovely friendly staff great quick service staff were knowledgeable about the menu and food was great. Visit was 9/10/23 around 5pm.

One of the few restaurants open on a Monday, this was the perfect end to our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food good, as you would expect from this well-known chain.

Not a bad meal but tiny portion sizes and expensive. Obviously as a chain there is an expectation of bland expensive food and this was completely that. Very expensive for what it is.

We have ordered two pizza there, because they have gluten-free pizzas. The pizza are so expensive but they are so small and there is so little topping on it. Definitely not good value for the money. Will not go there again.

One of the better Pizza Expresses out there but it's a nice little place, pizza was good and worth the price. A very nice dessert too.

Large restaurant with lots of seating, was mostly empty when we went in at lunch time, which made the experience more enjoyable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Many vegetarian and vegan options

I went to your restaurant in Monmouth Thursday 13th July At 7pm with a friend I had the American hot Legero, it was not not very warm and burnt around the edges, the knife was blunt I could hardly cut it. I was not offered the hot chilli sauce or anything. My friend and I wanted the small dessert and coffee we were told that the coffee machine was broken so we passed on the dessert. Paid our bill and left. I had travelled up from Newport as the Newport branch ha closed down. What a waste of time and petrol to drive up to Monmouth to a very disappointing visit. I will not be returning. The whole evening was an absolute shambles from start to finish.

Always a good place for a pizza, the best in Monmouth.

Really disappointed. We usually get a fantastic service and a lovely time at this restaurant. But this time not so much. I have coeliac and also dairy intolerance. The waitress processed the order through exactly how I asked for it, but the kitchen staff messed up. They gave me normal dough balls, which I started to consume until realising it wasn’t gluten free. I very quickly became ill!! To top it all off, we waited a good 20mins for our table to be cleared and able to order my children’s ice cream. The lad serving us, was less than happy to be there to say the least. He didn’t crack a smile once. On a positive. The lady who originally served us was clearly new, but did a fantastic job. The gentleman who was working/ supporting her was also amazing, but when the staff switched. Service and atmosphere drastically deteriorated.

Meager toppings, not piping hot, starter not great, sweet - small portion, surroundings shabby, torn upholstery, price v.expensive.

Completely Over priced for what you get! Paying £80 for 4 pizzas and 2 sides, and then getting about 3 pieces of each topping is an absolute joke! Prawn pizza is about £18, three prawns, disgusting… Total rip off, not at all happy!

Good food, great service, nice atmosphere, always clean and tidy when I have visited.

I brought a class of year 4 children here for a workshop in pizza making. It was absolutely brilliant! The staff were friendly, engaging and well-organised. We learnt loads and they had a lovely time. It was also free, which really is amazing. Many thanks to you all for a memorable morning of learning!

When handed a food stained menu, ripped and creased you start to think things won't be that good. The glasses were straight from the school canteen and all utensils needed cleaning. We should have walked after that! What has happened to the Monmouth Pizza Ezpress??? It was a little more sophisticated than this, cleaner and a cut above. Cut backs? Yes. Closing around the country? Yes. However, the insane prices now being charged have put me off returning. Simply can't afford to pay this much money for mediocre food. Milking the Covid situation. The service was fine but the decour was a shame. Tired and flaking now.

Best pizza express I’ve had. Even better than the previous best in Spain! I’ve had a lot. I’m sure there are more exciting options out there, but for a quick meal on a Tuesday evening it was hot, tasty and served by nice people. An enjoyable experience for a quick solo meal. Interesting to see the history of the building with Morgan cars - I have a cheap replica!

I have no problem in sharing my laziness. Middle aged. Boring. With little in my life that says 'excitement' one might even start to feel sorry for me. But above the modern day funny milks, endless dietary requirement questions or perhaps the realisation that I will never fulfill my life ambitions, despite funny quirks of getting old and not understanding, I am more than willing to give second chances. It is with this in mind that I returned to PE in Monmouth, to play another game of what will they forget bingo. Both visits were later in the evening and although there were a few stragglers, the place was almost empty. No too dissimilar to a particular Bill Murray film from the early 90s, I witnessed the repetition of the chef trudging off at about 8.50pm, only to return with a box of Fosters larger - i know, who the hell sells that stuff anymore?! Besides the shock of seeing him repeat the feat on both visits, the waiting staff were only too pleased to uphold their end of the bargain, and behave in the motionless, forgetful but also charming fashion. This included: Taking an age to take our order Forgetting various bits of the order Serving the wrong meal and different people at different times Taking an age to arrive with the bill Running out of certain ingredients like chicken - shameful It's not as if they were inundated with thousands of people. It also wasn't as if our group was troubling (2 on one occasion, 3 the next) and without starters or any dietary requirements. Pleasant and moderately convivial, the serving staff were like a tyre with a slow puncture you can't be bothered to fix - effective for the most part, but just didn't have the stamina. I know there is a great deal of pressure to save planetary resources, but i would have thought Wales, of all places, could have spared a jug or two of water for the table. We had politely requested it, in fact, twice on one occasion, but there was no give. That slowly deflating tyre had all but bottomed out. The redeeming feature of the place is that once the food arrived, it was as expected (save for the cold lasagna that was returned to the grill and cremated to the point of resembling a blistered crow - if only I have water to sooth my boiling mouth). The pizza, I am told, was very nice. The salads nice and wholesome, the drinks wet and mostly cold. In conclusion. We skipped desert owing to our ever expanding waistline, and instead opted for the bill. It's never a shock to see the prices, and actually, if it weren't for the general cocks ups that clearly need training or managing out, the food was perfectly acceptable. I bear no grudge to the founder who introduced London to the birth of PE, or to the Chinese private equity group who now allow it proliferate our high streets...no. I am happy to spend this or even a little more for tasty treats that allow me to forget my age. But when doing so leads to me wasting the time I have left in waiting for orders to be taken or resolved, I am less happy. I'll see you again PE Monmouth. I am not sure when, but it will be one day. Soon.

Good tasting pizza ...had the romano base. It's just one of meals you can't stop eating. Good value though the drinks are expensive but thats probably keeping the food costs down.

Had a great meal. The chef was being trained and did a great job. Excellent pizza. My usual caramel cheesecake wasnt on the menu any more which was disappointing but i had the new sticky toffee cake which was stunning. Hope you keep this one... please?

Reliable, friendly service and tasty food. Kids pizzas were undercooked but staff were efficient and apologetic and took them away for further cooking. Look forward to returning.

Nice service, child-friendly, delicious food

Quite a disappointing meal. I used to find Pizza Express reliable - you knew you would get a decent meal wherever you were. But this was pretty lame - eg I ordered a negroni that was really badly made, and although it cost ~£8 they didn’t even bother put a slice of orange in. Broccoli side dish was cold and over cooked. The staff were friendly but they never came to check with us whether everything was ok with the meal. Not worth the money - felt like it was run by people who just don’t know or care about food, but know they’ll get customers because there’s not much else locally.

Standard Pizza Express experience and none the worse for it! Good food, nice service and the Monmouth restaurant is particularly pleasant with plenty of space and nice decor. Recommended

The food was pretty decent, I'm giving this 5* based on the service though. We were served by Jack who was so pleasant and welcoming that he made our pass through visit such a great experience :) What a lovely gent. Thank you Jack!

Great experience. The restaurant is efficiently run and the staff are friendly and efficient. Our food came quickly and was of a high standard. We had two children in our party and there was a really good 3-course menu for them.

I've not been to Pizza Express for decades but felt Monmouth had run out of good options. So I gave PE a try. There was an irritating family initially, but luckily, they left after I'd ordered. Peace was restored. The temperature of the restaurant was suitable (air conditioning was installed). The staff were polite and very efficient, and the food was fresh and tasty, so I had three courses. I would undoubtedly return to Pizza Express again.

Food was delicious but service was slow, even though the restaurant was fairly empty. Took my kids and had a good time here though, they provided crayons & kids menus (with games & places to draw on it) which was good.

We love an occasional trip to pizza express, they are very welcoming to young families. However their gluten-free pizza base is very poor by comparison with the Ask GF pizza base.

Staff were extremely helpful, polite, courteous and professional. Our meals were served in great time and were very enjoyable.

Great service and very pleasant staff food good

Once again a brilliant meal in Monmouth , so very different from our last experience in Cribbs Causeway. Perfect pizza ( vegan giadinera which is on the seperate menu, not on the main one) . Wonderful caramel cheesecake, and good service. Cannot fault!
