Amazing place. We were blown away with eating here. Staff were so friendly especially Alex. Will definitely be back. The lamb dish which i opted for was incredible. 10 out of 10

Not very authentic, but extremely expensive. In Italy an Arabiatta (one of the simplest dishes known to man) will cost around £5, here it's £13.95 and no homemade pasta here either. Beers and house wines are three times the price of those even in Rome and no draught. Food was ok, but nothing special. I missed the banter/personality too.

The ambiance in this restaurant is very nice and the staff were efficient although very busy as the restaurant was full. The food came out very quickly ; my pizza whilst not the best I have ever had but was tasty and very acceptable. My partner's rissotto however was not - what was served was what appeared to be rather watery ordinary boiled rice, though the prawns with it were good. This dish was not rissotto! It was however edible and just good enough not to be sent back to the kitchen. Finally we decided to have a Macchiato coffee each. What came out were two small very milky coffees.So enough was enough and these were sent back as unacceptable and we did not pay for them. It did make us feel that the two items we tried which are actually italian specialities were not produced very well at all. Are they going through the motions here or were we unlucky?

Holy moly, Gambas followed by beef rib finished off with Tiramisu and a cheeky espresso, lovely food, fresh ingredients. Wine water and limoncello to die for. Seriously order the Tiramisu, bueno 🤌🏽

We visited Monmouth by accident. A lovely little town greatly enhanced by this authentic Italian restaurant. Staff were attentive but not intrusive A very nice atmosphere. The food was very good and certainly cooked for us. The calamari was perfectly cooked. I say this because more often than not it is overcooked and chewy but not at La Piccola. I had medallion of pork, the meat was prepared perfectly with a delicious sauce. Just enough to ensure the meat was not drowned. A great experience. The restaurant was pretty busy for Saturday lunch. Prices were competitive.

Food presented well but lacked flavour ( raw veg on pizza ) maybe could have been chargrilled offer balsamic drizzle or chilli oil An serve everyone’s food at same time so we can eat together

Food was amazing! Omg so delicious! I would think a junior staff or some staff are great too!!! It is a lovely place but unfortunately the staff even though pretend to be nice but they kept gossiping about guests… some staff were taking about us in their own language and even pointing to us… if there was an issue with us we would be more than happy to talk about it.. we are not English and we can tell when people are gossiping about others in their own language… so 5 min made us feel very uncomfortable ish... we would recommend to speak in English around guest to make that there is no such misunderstanding….

Just breaking our journey on our way home from North Yorkshire and went on TripAdvisor for a recommendation. Wow, everything about this restaurant is 5 star and couldn't fault it in any way.

We visited this restaurant with our dog as they welcome dogs. Entering the restaurant it was pretty busy but the service was excellent from the start. Dogs are allowed but only in the upstairs terrace. I imagined eating alfresco under a bar umbrella but no. They have a fully covered terraced area with amazing natural light. It was perfect. Starters were excellent as we're our main meals. It's over an hour drive to get to the restaurant for us but on the way home we were already planning a return visit as it left a lasting impression. Thank you.

Awful. Mushroom starter had changed . Basically it is now a few fried Mushrooms and a tablespoon of cream on top and 3 slices of inedible bread. Mushrooms were soggy and chewy. £8.45......... Main. Lamb chops. 70% inedible fat . The 30% meat was like eating a pair of shoes. £23.95 !!!. No vegetables. A few burnt potatoes underneath but that's it. We feel very stupid because we didn't complain bu we had business contacts with us and it would of been embarrassing. We have had 8 very nice meals here in last 5 months so this is out of the blue. We went here because we needed a safe place to entertain business guests. I'm focusing on my meal but the bill was £200 +. This is dreadful value. We feel really taken by tonight

I had duck breast, and my partner ordered swordfish, they are really bad, sad to say. The meat is cold, the plate is cold, my sauce is too salty, my partner’s swordfish sauce is too plain, and the portion is so small… I was shocked when the food arrived…bad experience.

Went in a couple weeks ago. Nice independent restaurant. Food average, drinks average and service average. Nice decor but all in all lacks that Italian food experience finesse. Menu missing the Italian options you would expect from an independent.

One of the best Italian restaurants I have ever tried. The comfort is very good and the portions are generous. Also at lunch there is a menu of starter + main or main + dessert for £20. Very good quality-price ratio.

Despite going to Monmouth on various occasions, this was our first visit to La Piccola Italia. The place is obviously very popular as we’d booked a table for 5.00pm (as this is when they open) and when we got there at 5 past 5, the place was nearly full. The staff who work tirelessly, are lovely, and the food is very good. My only (very small) gripe, and this seems to be a feature of many restaurants these days, is that customers are often rushed to eat their food. By that I mean that as soon as you’ve finished your starters, the main course is served. We prefer to have a bit of time between courses as we see going out for a meal as a social thing as well as a culinary experience. We did ask that we have a bit of time between courses, and to be fair, they did oblige. All in all, La Piccola Italia is a lovely restaurant in which to spend a couple of hours and we would gladly go back.

This is obviously a popular restaurant, with a wide mix of clientele, extensive menu and mostly good reviews. Our experience, however, was not so good. In a celebratory mood, we started with a couple of classic cocktails, which were poorly prepared and best described as ‘unconventional’. When it came to ordering our food, on asking about possible vegan dishes the head waiter who attended us advised that in addition to the one marked dish (a risotto) they could make us whatever we liked. Without offering any navigation round the menu or actual suggestions, this wasn’t very helpful. The waiter who attended us was generally sullen and unhelpful and we noticed other customers experiencing the same manner. Maybe this relates to other reviews here on Tripadvisor, where diners described some of the male waiting staff as arrogant? We both settled on the risotto, which was tasty enough but nothing special. The disappointing evening was topped off by having to ask several times for the bill and being kept waiting much longer than reasonable to pay.

We visited last Saturday after passing the restaurant numerous times. It was surprising how lovely the decor and atmosphere was and we greeted at the front of house and escorted to our table. The menu is what you would expect, but the presentation was fantastic, with portion sizes just right. The service was excellent and the food was all cooked lovely. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Absolutely love it here! We travelled up from Cornwall just to have our anniversary evening here. The food is divine, the staff are lovely and it was reasonable £'s as well. See you next year 🥰

A very nice and evidently popular, family run restaurant in Monmouth, with a delightful outdoor, covered terrace. Would definitely recommend.

Always great food and service. Staff are good fun and the atmosphere relaxing. Only delay is trying to decide what to eat! Another visit, quality all around! Deal with food allergy really well, thanks for another great night!

Restaurant itself was fine, the service was not up to standard, we had to ask for plates to be removed, waited ages for parmigiano to arrive and again had to ask for it. Pasta was over cooked and most of my muscles were not open ( not a good sign for the sea food 😑. But on a good note the staff were very helpful regarding the children's food. Probably would not go there again.

Perfectly cooked scallops starter for me and husband had gorgeous creamy garlic mushrooms! I had spaghetti carbonara for main and husband had spaghetti bolognese, both delicious! Lovely bottle of blush to wash food down with. Too full for a dessert but did manage a pina colada cocktail and husband had mojito! Drinks, food and the staff were just wonderful! Perfect evening and we can't wait to return 😋

We came for a meal for my partner’s birthday. The starter we had was olives and bread, the bread we received was 1/2 a slice each for £7.50…… The food was nice however my partners pizza arrived with a date label in. I made the waiter aware who apologised and replaced it. However this meant I sat with my half eaten pizza getting cold for 15 min while the other meal was being replaced. After the meal I asked the waiter if the meal would be on the bill, he replied no, but the manager will talk to you shortly. The manager arrived and asked what the problem is, I said the other man told us the meal would not be on the bill. He replied it will be, I replaced it, you ate it. Business is business. This left us feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed as other guests were able to hear what was going on. The other waiters we met were lovely and professional. However this manager came across quite rude and confrontational. I would not return having been embarrassed in front of guests and talked down to by the manager. I personally would have apologised for the confusion and calmly explained however he was rude and confrontational in his manner. This is not how you wish to be treated especially on your birthday.

So nice to go somewhere authenticly Italian. Really excellent menu. And lovely terrace. Highly recommend. Would visit Monmouth again just to visit here!!

This is a delightful family establishment with skilled staff working hard to high standards. With no prior booking and en route home, they found a table early in the service for us and by 630 locals were flooding in. Our food (which came swiftly) and that we could see around was excellent, drawn from a comprehensive menu; prices fair. Steep staircase to the upper floor.

Meh. After a recommendation, we decided to give it a go and were genuinely looking forward to it. Booked a table and arrived on time. First impression was good. The interior is tastefully decorated. Whilst it was a warm day and grateful for the air conditioning, we did not enjoy sitting directly underneath it. The service seemed to want take our order asap before we were given the opportunity to browse the menu properly. Drinks arrived. The cosmopolitan cocktail was very, very sour. Then, the wrong starter came to our table (calamari not scallops - did they not think I would notice) save, we only mentioned afterwards as I did not want to wait for my starter whilst everyone was eating theirs. Sea food risotto OK, but contained minimal seabass. Other meals tasted nice. Service staff not overly attentive. An incorrect (and more expensive) dish was added to our bill. Fortunately, we noticed before leaving. Decent meals but overpriced - we did not find it value for money. Perhaps we caught them on a bad night. We'll be going back to Mokos (Mexican) over La Piccola next time we're in Monmouth I'm afraid.

Regularly come here, excellent food, lovely people and they're fast too. Always fit us in even when we don't reserve a table. I shall be back, again and again. Food is always piping, i usually forget and burn myself, my bad, be warned.

A group of golfers touring the Monmouth area visited La Piccola on our last night evening. We had prebooked our starters and mains to assist the chef and everything ran like a well oiled machine (once we had translated the Italian to English!) The ambience was excellent, the food superb and the staff fantastic. Particular mention must go to Alex who we liaised with before the evening and who looked after us royally throughout the evening.

We went as a large group of 16 and were seated in an upstairs terrace. We had to prebook our meal choices due to the size of the group. The food was fantastic , the wines were excellent and the service was friendly and attentive. Great night out.

We travel through Monmouth often and have taken to booking a table on route. Really enjoy La Picolla Italia and we’re working through the menu slowly. It’s always quite busy (a good clue), with a nice convivial atmosphere, and good service. Last visit must have been our 4th. Food is always fresh and I defiantly feel it’s been cooked from scratch just for us. When it’s really busy service slows a bit, but not a problem, just relax. We have enjoyed seafood, pasta and chicken in a delicious sauce. Would highly recommend a visit, book to be sure though you won’t be alone. Enjoy !

I was surprised with the calzone pizza... one of the best I've ever eaten... very good tiramisu but I've had better ones. Good service, the only point to improve, that the beer was not cold enough…

Excellent Italian restaurant in Monmouth. Really good food, great service, lovely red wine at perfect temperature. Delicious garlic bread with cheese, superb linguine with prawn for me, with salmon for mum, and a great caprese salad for Suzy. A bit mean on the bread and olives plate, very meagre bread would be the only minimal complaint. Superb service from the young man and ladies.

1st time eating here but would definitely visit more. Couldn't ask for anything more. Well done

From the outside it may not be the most attractive on the street, but the magic happens inside. Staff brilliant, atmosphere great, food excellent and good value too. It was busy on a Wednesday evening so booking advised, though they managed to squeeze us in. Loved it.

We made a booking online for 2 people for a Birthday meal. We were a little early, so asked the staff if it was ok for us to come in or if they would rather we returned in 15 minutes. They were very unfriendly, unwelcoming, and just said we will get a table ready for you. There were people seated at only 6 tables, meaning 3/4 of the restaurant was empty. I was surprised they didnt have a few tables made up already, it looks more professional and welcoming when tables are already made up. Having shown us to our table, the lack of friendliness continued, we really felt like we were putting them out by being there! The food was ok, not bad, but nothing special, and we had starters and mains. The "Rose Wine"? was the worst I ever tasted. When I asked the waiter what brand it was, he didnt know, he simply said 'I think its a Spanish wine'. I asked for water to wash it down with. Water glasses were already on the table, so I was surprised water was not offered before having to ask. Our experience left us knowing we would never return here again. A few simple professional changes are all it takes to make a business a success or a failure, in our experience, you failed, and you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Excellent Italian restaurant with service that's attentive but not intrusive. Seafood is particularly good. Ate here twice in a 7 day stay nearby which must count for something.

We love Italian restaurants and always try to find one when we're travelling around. La Piccola might be the best we've ever been to in the UK. Food and service is brilliant; so good that we went back again a couple of days later. A real gem in this small Welsh town. Superb.

This is the third time we have eaten here. We ate here with our adult family. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food was superb, full of flavour and a varied menu. All of the family commented on how good the experience was. Having read reviews and noted the young male waiter was good we endorse the comment as well. Well done.

Have dined here several times and always had a good meal but this time it was sadly disappointing. Service was excellent t it the food let it down. Whitebait starter was tasty but tiny. Tomatoes in the caprese were tasteless. Had duck for the main which was a bit rubbery and sauce was disappointing, plus could have done with some vegetables. My wife’s fish was also lacking in flavour. Tiramisu was lacking in flavour and a bit watery. Really sad as have had really good meals here previously.

The food was very good just as well as the service upstairs was non-existent - we never saw the same waiter twice and had to ask why the long wait 40minutes between starter and mains - blamed on serving a party of 15 - we gave up waiting to be offered the dessert menu or coffee after another 20mins as the dog with guests 2 tables away got more attention than we did

We ate here for a family meal in memory of a relative who died recently. My partner and I have eaten here before and wouldn’t return out of choice, but we went with the majority vote. The male Italian waiting staff are arrogant and unfriendly. The female member of staff and the younger male waiter were polite and helpful. The food is ok, but nothing special. The calamari starter for £8.95 is a very small portion of approximately 6 rings. My linguine with king prawns was average, the crème brûlée was nice. Other mains chosen were calzone, spaghetti carbonara, risotto and pizzas. Next time we’re in Monmouth we’ll eat elsewhere.

Went in without a booking for a pre-theatre meal and they were able to find us a table. The decor is both classic and pretty. Plenty of choice on the menu for a vegetarian. Both of us really enjoyed our pasta and then had a fabulous tiramisu. The staff were attentive and service a good speed. We will definitely be back!

Excellent ambience and great staff who were very friendly. Roberto appeared to be the man in charge during our Valentines Day visit and he was very courteous and helpful throughout our meal, The restaurant was nicely decorated and very cosy. An ideal place for a romantic meal. We look forward to returning in March 2024.

After a long day cycling and walking, we arrived around 5.15pm without a booking and were offered a table and seated straight away. the decor was lovely, the ambience was relaxing and seating comfortable. The waiters were really welcoming, attentive and efficient but not intrusive at all throughout our visit. We ordered lasagne, pizza and arrabbiata and they were all delicious. They were all served together, piping hot and were generous portions. The prices were reasonable for good quality food and service. Would definitely visit again. 😊

Visited La Piccola for lunch today as birthday treat for my wife. Treat is the right term. Excellent in every respect - convenient location, lovely setting, superb food ,nice ambiance and terrific ,pleasant service . My wife’s ravioli was spot on and my hake was exceptional. Having now found such a special place will ensure we become regular customers.
