Pizza Express in Wealden

Staff are great as is the atmosphere..They were missing two drinks we wanted which was a shame, especially as not so many options for soft drinks otherwise would have given 5 stars

Just moved to Uckfield and made an order for delivery via the app and went a bit wrong and collected. All staff was great as we had a food intolerance that we couldn't select on the app. Thank you all... and see you again very soon.

Waiting staff were welcoming, our table was ready and the service good. We ordered two classic pizzas that came quickly, too quickly, as the dough had not cooked for long enough. The pizzas needed a few minutes more in the oven. We sent one back and on the top it was better but really the base was still not right. We did add a tip, but only as the waiters did a good job. Chef needs more training. It'll be some time before we go back. They are plenty of places to eat.

Thank you to Dan & his team for a fabulous pizza party for my daughter & her friends. Nothing was too much trouble & everyone had a super time.

Recent visit this week was fab! Waitress Sarah is certainly a credit to the team, gave guidance on menu items, and even though I had to return a pizza due to wrong toppings being a kitchen error, Sarah was super apologetic and attentive in making sure the kitchen my order correct. Experience was great and a thank you to her, will be back :)

Great food, great service. Bit pricey.

Earlier this evening, I visited Uckfield pizza express with my sister and a friend, i would like to say that the lovely lady that served us named Sarah was very kind and accommodating to our requests. The food there was lovely too. Thank you to all the members of staff there that served us. Was a lovely experience. The lighting however was a bit too dark, but this didn’t affect the taste of our food!. I highly recommend the ultimate chocolate fudge cake too!!!

After several enjoyable visits last night's experience was a real disappointment. Staff didn't seem to know the menu and were disinterested and not engaging at all. When my son's pizza arrived it looked like it had been dropped, overloaded with sauce and base was soggy. We ordered a grand caesar salad which we have had several times before but portion size seemed more like a starter.

Made to order pizzas - great choice and many variations. Plus pasta dishes and healthy options. Relaxed with attractive interior plus great lighting and atmosphere.

Lovely service and pleasant outdoor space. We chose because dogs are allowed in patio area. Extremely friendly and amiable server who helped with ordering on the app and getting relevant rewards. Tasty pizzas and good selection of drinks.

Whoever was greeting and serving at the door on the 15th of June was incredibly friendly and helpful, we accidentally ordered a normal pizza instead of a vegan pizza and he sorted the issue fast and was very kind and apologetic even though it was entirely our fault. He made our experience and is the reason for this review.

Kid's party was loud but amazing. The children were given a masterclass in pizza making. Each got to create their own pizza which was cooked for them. They had a started of crudites, doughballs and garlic butter. Then the amazing pizzas arrived. Desert was a chocolate brownie. Great time had by all.

Excellent food. Friendly staff, good service. Really nice restaraunt. It was a shame the weather was not nice enough to sit in their outdoor dining area.

Had a lovely meal last night, pizzas were delicious and were the side orders. I saved room for a dessert you have the option of a smaller dessert with a hot drink, genius idea it was lovely. Staff very helpful ,atmosphere was good and fairly busy for a Monday evening. Service was quick and efficient.

Pizza Express Uckfield went above and beyond for my little sister’s birthday. She is wheelchair bound and profoundly disabled. We had no idea that our waitress, Mauricia, asked whose birthday it was and how old she was turning for a specific reason! Mauricia - you made our evening.

My friend and I were visiting a local motorbike shop and wanted the best that Uckfield could offer, so we headed into the Free car park behind the high street and parked up before cutting through the short cut to the Pizza Express. We were greeted and seated with ease and choose our starters and mains from the menu. The dough balls and calamari were perfect, and set the tone for a magnificent main course of Giuseppe pizza and my friend had a different pizza but didn't like onions or tomatoes so the server recommended we swap those two toppings with chicken and ham, which he was very happy with. We had perfect deserts of brownie and millionaires sundae followed up with a real cappuccino. The restaurant was clean and tidy, and the tables were spotless which is exactly what we expected from our visit. The server was brilliant and assisted with our needs and checked on us to make sure everything was up to standard. All in all a perfect meal in contemporary styled setting. If only all dining experiences were this good. 😉

Pretty poor now, it's like a crèche the food is now quite expensive with portions pathetic, staff are average at best, it used to be reasonably nice, now I'd look elsewhere. Over £10 for a glass of wine that tasted like the bottle was about £4

Not very busy with good food and a quick service.

Very quick service was very impressed although busy are food was ordered and delivered to our table super quick. Our waitress kayleigh was great, very kind while serving. Very happy with our meal.

Had a lovely evening, the service was good and the food was perfect.... amazing pizza...only downside was at the end of the evening all the staff seemed to have disappeared and we had to wait ages to pay our bill ..

I wanted to treat my daughter to a meal out. We arrived and were seated. The restaurant was half full. We ordered drinks, and olives, a starter to share and pizza to share. The starter came before the drinks and olives. I had to remind the waitress to bring the olives and drinks. No plates were brought with the starter either. After finishing the starter we waited for the pizza. After around 40 mins I asked if it was nearly ready. We were told it was in the oven. Still the starters were not cleared. Again we waited. It took too long and as we had another commitment , we got up and said we could not wait any longer, it seemed like there was enough staff but that the service was just not very well managed. The ‘manager’ came over after preparing a takeout meal, so again, we had to wait. We were charged for what we had. No apology was made. So we left after nearly an hour and a half after having a drink, some olives and a starter. Obviously a very disappointing experience on many fronts. I don’t think I have ever had to walk out of a restaurant due to an experience such as this. It was an embarrassment to the industry tonight.

The Pizza bases were burnt, the topping dried out and so little of it that it was almost tasteless. The Pasta dishes were better although the pasta was drowned by the sauce. The coffee served with the desserts was lukewarm. The service was slow despite the restaurant being only half full. We have been regular PE customers over the years but will certainly not be any longer. So disappointing and definitely not value for money.

The food was good. Friendly staff. Good selection of gluten free and always served on a black board so there's no mix ups. I'm going back there soon.

Really gutted with our visit to this Pizza Express. Ordered a starter for myself and 2 main meals for my kids. 1 a pizza and 1 a salad. We waited for over 30 mins for our food, though my starter had come out within 5 mins, without the accompanying sauce. When I mentioned to waitress she began to snidely lecture me about how they wait for the starters to be finished first, as though I’d never dined out before. I told her it was clear that I hadn’t ordered a main meal so why would they wait? Pizza was served lukewarm and soggy and was small, though it was an adult portion? Salad was more the size of a side salad - super small and with no bread as is usually on the side. Atmosphere wise: we were sat near the back and waitresses kept throwing empty wine bottles into the bin super loud, making one of my kids jump every time. When I went to pay and she told me the total, I didn’t say anything but I guess from my expression she guessed my shock and replied - again with a snide attitude - “do you want to see the receipt?” I paid and walked out. £41.95 hard earned ££ for being treated disgracefully and served less than desirable food.

Better than most Pizza Express establishments. Pizza cooked to perfection, wonderful crispy base without being burnt. No soggy bottoms here!

We have been coming here every time in Uckfield. We enjoy coming here because it has great services, great food, and a great atmosphere every time. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

Was here a few days ago now with my two kids, the waitress was so nice from start to finish. Very nice & welcoming. I’ve forgotten her name. But my son wrote her a little thank you on a napkin. The food was delicious. Wish I lived local. Thank you for your service

I have recently had to start a new, strict, diet. Adam and Luke made me feel very understood and catered for!! They answered all of my questions relating to what I could and couldn’t eat. I couldn’t recommend them more! Such lovely young men!!

Brilliant on the ball staff, great service and yummy food.

The food was cooked beautifully and my wife said her pizza was one of the best she'd had. I love Calzone, but why can't you have one without all the chillies? I was told the ingredients come ready mixed, so they're not prepared on site. The staff are excellent, but the room is very noisy and we couldn't eat outside on a warm evening as it was out of use! Disappointing!

Place is terrible dawg I walked in and they spilt cold water down me then shot me 8 times in the leg 😭😭😭😭‼️

Gutted we chose here for my daughters birthday. Food was average, service and atmosphere poor. Waitress had no clue what she was doing. Ordered 6 items she forgot 1. Asked for a jug of water and got a thimble sized glass. Poured my beer to leave a pint of froth. Served our desserts and walked off without providing cultery. The prices are way too high for the standard of food. And those portion sizes, thought I'd ordered a childs pizza! Never again.

Gluten free, dairy free and veg attains options available. Not all allergens marked on generic menu but gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options highlighted. There was more choice once asked too- some things were not on menu which were advertised in the restaurant. Good food, something for everyone but flavour wise just average.

The atmosphere is nice, some of the waiters are lovely, pizza is a little bland, it’s been great before but more often than not, they aren’t the best pizza express pizzas.

Came in for lunch with my family and had amazing service and food! Emily (our waitress) was extremely accommodating to our needs and was very welcoming. She guided us through the menu and recommended dishes. She was very attentive as well, and made sure that we had everything we needed. The food was also amazing and couldn't fault it! Thank you for such an amazing lunch and we can't wait to return!

I've eaten at many of their restaurants and if I order the baked Pollo pesto, mine was a bowl of under cooked pasta, goey sauce , crunchy red onion, half cooked mushrooms, and a little bit of melted cheese I don't call that baked , if I had more time I would have complained, very disappointing

Nice food and staff mainly apart form the branch manager who I thought looked extremely unpresentable. He was not wearing uniform and looked extremely unclean. When i spoke to him he was very informal and he smelled strongly of cigarettes. This 100% put me off my meal and going back here agin.

Really disappointing visit, nice waitress, but restaurant seemed to be very under staffed. Totally rude, unkept manager who swore at us at a reasonable request, despite having children at the table and walked off mumbling to himself. Dreadful customer service. Should have walked out and put our money elsewhere for someone more appreciative of our business. Felt sorry for the young waitress who was lovely having to working in such an atmosphere.

Easy going atmosphere, very accommodating with young children. The staff work incredibly hard and occasionally you have to wait at busy times, could really do with just 1 more staff member, but always enjoy ourselves none the less.

Honestly I had always thought of pizza express as a cheap pizza hut..... how wrong I was. The lunch me and my wife had far exceeded our expectations and will definitely try to get back. Carbonara was absolutely fantastic. Drink was a little pricey paying 6.60 for just ove a pint but in these times who can complain. Thank you to the staff who were very cheerful and very quick.

We used the online booking form to book a pizza making party for my daughter as her first party with friends since COVID restrictions ended. I went in to the restaurant during the week before the party to confirmed prices, and was told everything was fine for Sunday. When we arrived on Sunday, we were told that the party was not marked as a pizza making party, and the service could not be offered. The result of this was a birthday girl in tears, and a group of upset 5/6 year olds. The manager on the day was the same person I spoke to in-person to confirm the prices. Rather than show any kind of empathy (or even apologise), he repeatedly blamed his manager as if it absolved himself of any blame in any way. We ended up staying as it was far too short notice to do anything else, and were offered a discount - but the complete lack of and humanity from the manager at the time was outright disgusting - and a terrible representation. The only reason that this is a two star review and not a one star review is our server, Sarah. She was absolutely amazing - and did everything she possibly could to try and salvage our visit. Sarah did everything I would have expected the manager to be doing - and she did it with a smile on her face the whole time. Sarah gets 5 stars! I've worked in management in the service industry, and I appreciate that it's a difficult and thankless job a lot of the time. However, to handle an issue resulting in the derailing of a child's birthday party and spending your time blaming other people is terribly bad optics, and downright appalling customer relations.

Amazing pizza, service with a smile and location

Such a shame, the meal was very nice but a number of children were competing to make the most noise. They were having fun for sure but it's surely unreasonable to allow one group, children or otherwise to spoil other people's enjoyment. The manager told us that they had a policy of none interference.

Service was slow for our table of 8, taking nearly an hour to get all the pizzas to finally reach the table. Unfortunately, my pizza arrived 10 minutes after everyone else. So I wasn't happy.

Usually very good, but had to wait over an hour for our pizza. It seems that takeaway orders are the priority here, rather than the customers in the restaurant.

I went with friends pre cinema. I’d looked up the menu on line. I follow the Slimming World diet. I ordered a pasta dish with some prawns as an extra. It arrived ,with a tiny amount of pasta and sauce, and with about three small prawns for an extra charge. I did complain to a member of staff. Very poor value indeed, and I will never go there again.

We arrived at 7:10 as booked table for 7:15pm was ignored for 45 mins then order taken then nothing till we complained, I understand staff were thin on the ground but being served after others had been way before us and arrived after was extremely bad management! The new manager needs to up his/hers game otherwise you will loose alot of customer.

This is the third time I have recently eaten here. The service was very long and we were waiting for very long time. The staff where overwhelmed and there were only two chefs on duty bearing in mind it was a busy Saturday evening. I will not be eating here again. Very disappointed with the food and service.

Tonight was a comedy of errors. I felt for the poor people who were waiting on tables as the service was shocking from the kitchen. I have never seen so many people in a restaurant complaining. The chef should remember that his behaviour is visible to diners and what he says can be heard. Our pizzas arrived before starters…and they weren’t even ours and they didn’t know whose they were! One lady received burnt pasta, others waited over an hour to be served. The chef was putting things on the pass ages before ready and then just touching them to see if they were still warm and telling the staff to just send them out anyway! Pizza Express need to look at the management of the kitchen, not over commit to too many tables and get a chef who cares about the level of complaints his food is receiving.

Worst meal and service we have ever had, from the moment of turning up no structure, no one to seat us, tables left with dirty food plates on all around us thought the whole meal service, disinfectant spray left on table by young children, 7 staff members all standing together laughing, one customer overheard the staff slatting all the customers! Pasta came out black hard burnt (how do you burn pasta!) when mentioned staff very unhelpful and rude and start laughing, walked out, we were not alone we were the 5th table to make a complaint in the short time we were there, I recommend staying away from here if you’d like to enjoy your meal with your hard earn’t money!

We have eaten before in this restaurant, but now i cant tell i can see big improvements. We like to come over with the kids and family,and always enjoy your nice food. Service is getting better, food comes out quick and we feel more welcome. Keep up the good work, we really love your pizza 😍

I couldn't be happier. A lot of improvement has been made since my last visit. Staff looked happier and all atmosphere was pleasant. Definitely one of my favourite pizza places.
