Pizza Express in Wealden

Waited 40 minutes for starter, waited another 35-40 for mains. Staff look busy but service is poor compared to other pizza express' around the country. They didn't clear away starter before the mains came (35 minutes). The manager looked to be more interested in her phone than running the restaurant. Staff look under trained and unhappy to be there. What happened to service with a smile? I couldn't believe this was a pizza express I was at. Wouldn't go again to this particular restaurant. Many better value places in Uckfield!

It is always lovely eating at Pizza Express. The staff were really friendly here, the food was delicious like all branches, and we had a great time here. Great ambiance.

Perfectly clean, perfectly pleasant staff and a very nice meal! Convenient and will definitely visit again!

we took our young grandchildren out for tea. We sat in the garden and the tasty food was served quickly. One of the children dropped pieces of his food on the floor, and the waitress was kind and patient and cleared it up without any fuss.

Impromptu last minute booking for a quick meal out. When we arrived, the chap who welcomed us had worked out who we were and welcomed us by name.... nice touch. Waitress super helpful and friendly too. Difficult time for all with masks and distancing but they managed it perfectly. Food was good too. Far better than other Pizza Express restaurants we have eaten at.

This resturant has fantastic staff like Chantelle. Welcoming, accommodating and service with a smile. Good food supported by a fantastic waitress. I will return purely for the service. Great experience!

food was excellent and reasonably quick, the waitresses and waiters were all lovely but we waited over half an hour for the bill even though it wasn’t very busy. can not complain about anything except slow service.

Me and my partner decided to come and eat here for a meal on Sunday Evening, (9th Feb 2020). We mainly did it because if anybody else knows it was actually National pizza day this day!! And we both haven’t had a pizza in a long time so thought why not?! Whenever we go out to eat we have always booked because we know a lot of places get busy. So I booked a table for us at 7pm here on Sunday. When we arrived the restaurant wasn’t packed out a few people. We were greeted by a lovely girl who I was guessing she was the manager of the place, I did say I booked she said it’s good to book but as you can see not very busy so we were able to choose where we would liked to sit, we chose at the end by the window. We got handed some menus and asked for our drinks order. We was given a moment to browse through the Menus and decided what we would like to eat. We both had a 3 course meal here. Starters- I ordered the ‘pizza express’ dough balls which I have always had served as 6-8 balls with melted garlic butter but this was 8 dough balls served on a plate with a plastic dish in the middle which just a knob of butter that wasn’t melting very quick! The dough balls tasted lovely though. My partner ordered the garlic bread with mozzarella which he enjoyed and was a good size. Not to heavy. We had a bit of time to enjoy before our mains came out. It was lovely atmosphere, nice music a few other people started to arrive too so it made it feel like we weren’t the only ones there. Where we was sat we had a view out onto the high street one side and the other you could have a view of the chefs preparing and making the food. We noticed there were 2 chefs here that night so working very hard with all the orders. There was a couple of people coming in to collect pizzas to takeaway too. We then had our main meals we both chose the American Pizza which we both very much enjoyed I had the classic crust and my partner had the other one so he’s was slightly bigger in size. We got offered some garlic and chilli oil from the waitress, we asked for a glass of water too and was left to eat our meal. We didn’t want to really eat with our fingers but we ended up having to in the end as it was a bit tricky cutting up the pizza with the knife and fork. Anyway we both finished ours. When the waitress came back to clear out plates away we got asked if we would like a pudding but we wanted to wait for our food to go down a bit. So that’s what we did. The staff were lovely we had a young girl as our waitress for the evening, when we did arrive there was a large party of parents with their children there, it was quite nice when they left so we were both able to get on enjoy our meal without having young kids staring at us eating and the noise! When we was both ready we asked for a menu for the puddings had a look and picked what we liked. I had the chocolate fudge cake with cream. The other choices you could have it served with mascarpone cream or ice cream. My partner chose the 2 scoop gelato ice cream with a vanilla flavour and salted caramel flavour. We did question the waitress on whether we could have 3 scoops of ice cream but she strictly told us only 2 scoops are allowed. It was just the 2 scoops weren’t quite enough and we saw her dish it up and she was getting it out of a ice cream tub so I couldn’t see why she couldn’t do 3, then my partner could of enjoyed one extra flavour! Anyway never mind we enjoyed it. Shortly after our puddings we relaxed before deciding to get our bill and go home. I had a 25% off voucher to use so it helped us with the payment of our bill. We paid and left when we were ready. So we had a good evening and we will return to this pizza express again.

Waited ages to be seated. Ordered the Pollo salad. Took a while coming. Turned up missing bread sticks.. which they said they would bring. Then I noticed it had no chicken .. rather then take it back and dress it properly.. brought me a bowl of chicken but there was no dressing on it. Called back the waitress.. waited for a further 5mins to the point I got so bored of waiting went up to the kitchen myself. Told my dressing was sitting on the counter. It would have been quicker to walk to Waitrose and make the salad myself. This has to be the most incompetent Pizza Express in the UK..

This is one of the better Pizza Express restaurants. Not as good as the one off Old Compton Street in SoHo, which was excellent, but the food is better than the Lewes branch, which was highly average. The location is great, just down the road from the Picturehouse cinema, which is the reason we were there (to see Star Wars). Our waitress began very well with a very friendly welcome and helpful with orders. However, when the first orders arrived there was a small mix up, followed by my wife’s meal having fish instead of chicken. When returning this dish to the waitress I pointed out that we were pressed for time as had film tickets. We then ordered more drinks which were forgotten about. These things can happen from time to time, but it’s pretty poor having been told that we didn’t have a lot of time. There was then a further overly long wait for another drink. The drinks were removed from the bill - a good move - but waiting too long for drinks, trying to get staff’s attention, having to get up and get help are all things that can seriously dampen a visit.

Having not visited a Pizza Express in years, i was truly surprised to see the menu had more choice than just basically Pizza or Salad Nicoise.We had the most helpful member of staff. Credit to all the staff, they were accommodating and hard working.Food was beautifully presented and delious

Service here was very poor, the guys preparing and cooking spent more time messing round and throwing food at each other than getting the food out correctly. The pizzas were mediocre at best with sparse toppings (the egg on mine was like a hard boiled egg!) The dessert was average and immensely overpriced for what it was. The evening was spent watching orders being returned for various reasons, totally disorganised and sloppy. We won't be going back!

Popped in after the cinema - moderately busy. Good, friendly, helpful service. Food arrived as ordered a mixture of pizzas and other dishes - All good quality standard Pizza Express fare. Sweets were good , although who has cold Brownies? Wine good. Overall a good late evening meal.

The restaurant was virtually empty and yet they still managed to get the order wrong and it was obvious they did not want to replace and wanted us to accept the incorrect order. Will definitely not be returning.

Service was very slow. I loved the art work on the walls; old black and white photos with colourful flowers added. The food was the usual tasty Pizza Express food. High chairs available.

Having left this place once before because of very slow service, we decided to give it another go last week.

Could not get a table on a Saturday night without booking due to a popular film on nearby cinema.; Got table on a Sunday. Nice ambiance . Did not have to wait too long. Had prawns in tomato sauce, although a bit runny and not strong flavour but still nice. Pollo Pesto was also very tasty and hot. Had polenta chips with rosemary. All very nice. Would go again

Having taken my family (two adults two children age 5&7) to this place on a Friday night in June 2019. I was frankly appalled at the standard of the pizza's and the rest of the food, the service was also bad. One pizza was so over cooked it was like eating a chess biscuit. Why it was so full one can only put down to not having much competition. My advise is to steer well clear.

We went to pizza express in Uckfield for an early dinner with the children. Mostly the staff were friendly and helpful but there was one very odd waitress who printed off another table’s bill for us and then said that Katy would explain as she rushed away from us. I appreciate that she was likely confused but her attitude was poor. The bill was for nearly one hundred pounds which would require a great deal of effort for two ladies and a one and a three year old.

Good pizzas and service. This particular Pizza Express is better than some we've eaten in. The pizzas always seem to be above average. When wanting pizza, we always drive to this particular restaurant. We live 15/20 mins away and there is one in our town!

A lack of staff meant things ran a little slower but the food was of it's usual high standard and the staff did their best. Very tasty calamari and nice new raspberry ripple cheesecake.

Having not been to pizza express for a few years I visited with my girlfriend's family as it's in our local town, expected okay food and to be fair it was actually really good , only downside is it's pricey for what it is but I think that's the way all chains are now .. none the less I wouldn't mind coming back

Ate here in feb 2019. My last review of here wasn’t great but this was very enjoyable.

We were going to view a cattery for our cats next holiday[!] when the rain started to pour down. We decided that we should have some lunch before going to the cattery. After being turned away by two local pubs [sorry, we are booked up til three] we felt like poor travellers in the depths of nowhere. We decided to try Uckfield as the nearest town of any size and selected this Pizza place as it looked clean and people seemed to be tucking in.

Pre film pizza and salad with a bottle of wine. Read the reviews and nearly went somewhere else but we do love those pizzas so gave it a chance. Really surprised at the excellent service. Sarah was attentive, efficient, timely and friendly. The food was, as it always is, excellent.

Well chosen and varied menu which has frequent additions while retaining old established favourites. The service can become overloaded at busy times, such as school holidays. Price is as expected for the chain.

We booked a table for 14 at Pizza Express in Uckfield at 5.30pm on a Friday evening. Our party included 7 children ranging from age 1-8, one of whom has coeliac disease, and I called ahead to check that they could provide a guaranteed gluten free meal. I spoke to the manager who explained that she herself was coeliac, and that they could provide gluten free pizzas that were prepared without risk of cross contamination, which was very reassuring.

Always hope that it would be much improved from previous visits. Never happens. Food is always mediocre and not well cooked. The staff are Cooks and not Chefs and it shows in the quality of the food. Other towns have really good Pizza Expresses why not Uckfield.

Uckfield is not generally blessed with very good restaurants so I thought I would try Pizza Express as a standard commercial quality place. I have eaten there in Doha but not in England. I ordered Bolognese Penne which was not cheap at 12.50 pounds. What came was a fairly small portion of penne in meat sauce. There was nothing to enhance the presentation - no bread, no garnishes just a plain bowl. That was fine except the dish itself did not taste like Bolognese but like canned spagetti and the penne itself was over cooked. A can of Chef Boyardee would have more actual flavour. I told the waitress I didn't like it and assuming I was American (I'm Canadian) she said well you know our English portions. I had to wait until she came back to explain that I was not American and it was not the portion size (although it was small) but the pasta itself that was the problem. I said to get something so mediocre at a quite high price was very disappointing. She said she would pass it on to her main office which of course means filed under forgotten. Until the British stop paying high prices for bad food it will never improve. Getting served at the outset was challenging too.

Been several times before and always happy but lunch visit we asked for normal pizza and she gave us larger one which cost us more but we said we asked for normal and she said it was

Went in the door this evening Thursday 19th July @ about 7-40 pm and after standing there on my own and being ignored for 5 min's I walked out again.

We won a prize at my Grandaughters school fair. A family meal for four. We decided to go with my son, daughter in law and Grandaughter. We said we were willing to pay the extra.

This has had a little refurb and it’s helped the over look and feel of the restaurant.

The worst pizza express meal I’ve ever had, the service was awkward and the food was not enjoyable. The starter was the Worst calamari I’ve ever had as it was not crispy and was slightly undercooked. The main course was not piping hot and came out just warm. It was a meal that was definitely not worth the price.

Don't normally eat out Sunday night but went after watching a film at the cinema. Been several times here and enjoyed food but this time it was not good. My husband said his pizza was good hence an average review score but my pasta bolognese was not good, lots of mince with burnt crispy pasta and despite trying to get attention no offer of Parmesan for it. I hardly ate it and when taken away no comment and no chance to!

Waited at the door on a Saturday afternoon for 10 minutes before being seated. Once at our table the waitress was lovely and the food also. When it came to paying, this is where it all went down hill. we had a Restaurant Choice Voucher given to us for Christmas which they couldn't work out how to use. A male waiter cam over to try and process the gift card. He was so very incredibly rude. He asked my girlfriend the balance which she replied she was unsure can you do a balance check, which he then said in the most sarcastic tone imaginable "that's helpful". He couldn't work out how to use the card he then said we should use real money as this card is a hindrance. Dont advertise you accept the Restaurant choice card (the only restaurant on the website in Uckfield that does) and then make people feel terrible for using it because you cant work how to use the PDQ machine. Having worked in restaurants for 12 years, i know how easy gift cards, tesco vouchers and eagle-eye are to process and check the balance.

You think all Pizza Expresses are the same? Think again! This on on Uckfield High Street, next door to the Picture House, is one of the very best. My wife had the Leggiero Padana, generously piled high with a mouth-watering arrangement of tiny vegetables. I had the American Hot with Jalapeños, perfect for an icy evening. Best of all was our outstandingly helpful waitress Adele, who guided us patiently through the options and wine list.

Fancied a quick pizza but it more difficult now I’m trying to be vegan. Top marks to Pizza Express for coming up with a Vegan Gardenia. It was very nice. My mother tucked away all her lasagne so it must have been up to scratch. Unfortunately there was no real vegan desert so we opted out at that point. Good start though.

Service was quick and efficient. The food was good. We enjoy the fact that we can have a relaxed meal here.

We went to Uckfield pizza express for our 7 year olds birthday and booked a pizza making party for 10 kids

Lacklustre service, poor food for the price which is high. Extortionate drink prices, out of most soft drinks. Noisy even when not that busy.

The food was lovely as was Martar our waitress but the tables were grubby the prosecco was given with no ice bucket and when we asked for one the tin (ice bucket) had some sort of food stuck onto it the cutlery was dirty the whole place is just unclean and could do with a good wipe down. Other than that it was lovely food just let down by the levels of cleanliness.

Tried ordering online and website payment didn't work with 2 accounts 2 computers and three payment methods. ( apparently the staff can switch off the ability to make online orders if busy which might have been the reason). So tried to phone but got no answer. So drove to order in person. When I got there staff were helpful and got the pizzas in good time and tasted pretty good as usual.

Went to the restaurant for a friends birthday, we did an offer and had a set menu (which excluded very little off the menu for mains, but starters were limited). The staff were polite and friendly.The atmosphere is good and it's not too loud, you can have a private conversation and not here what any table near you is saying. I had the fiorentina pizza which is amazing and obviously the dough balls to start which are still good and are a timeless classic. Quick service and crispy nice pizza. Is a little expensive, but the quality makes it worth it.

Stopped here for a quick dinner prior to a cinema visit just up the road. Service was extremely friendly, and very efficient. Food was delicious and our unorthodox order arrived without error. All in all another great experience at Uckfield Pizza Express.

My husband and I went here for dinner today his food was burnt so we sent it back that wait staff were very nice and helpful when the second dish came he was hungry so ate it but it was also burnt the waitress kept apologising which was nice but had to keep going to the manager as the gift card we had would not register the poor girl was left we two unhappy customers us and no manager in sight I expected him /her to have made an appearance as there were so many issues but no she was left to repeat what she had been told which is very unfair. We won't be returning to Pizza express.

Regrettably we will not be returning to Uckfield's Pizza Express. It was our fault not looking at the price of various dishes but the total still came as a shock.The service was cheerful but very slow. When the children's dough balls arrived they had the burnt remnants of previous food on the base. The pizzas were difficult to cut even though the children's pizzas had been partly cut through. The dessert order was taken by staff memorising the order so when it was ready, it was wrong. We had to wait again for the correct order to be ready.The gents cubicle was out of order. The ladies cloakroom was superficially clean but long-standing pink scum was evident at the top of hand basins and round the base of the taps. No excuse for inadequate cleaning and raises doubt about the standard of checking.

Good menu, excellent pizzas Peroni bottled beer, reasonable prices for food and drink, often helped by online offers. service first class.

The pizzas were delicious but there was only one chef and short waiting staff missing so we had to wait over 45 minutes to get the pizzas. We would have had pudding and coffee but since it took so long for food I told the children it would be better to raid the freezer at home for a lollipop.

We ate here on a girls night out and instantly had a warm welcome on a Friday evening, even though we hadn't booked a table.To be honest, our waiter and waitresses were fantastic throughout the whole evening, attentive without being overbearing.I chose the seafood Rigatoni and I have to say that sadly it wasn't very flavoursome at all, not worth a complaint as it is obviously just the recipe but I was disappointed none the less.One of my friends chose the Pianta pizza, which she said was nice; it has spinach, mushroom on it and is finished with rocket too. Another had Chicken Caesar salad which she said was happy with too.Perhaps I just made a poor menu choice?!! I then finished my meal off with chocolate brownie which was delicious but absolutely tiny!! I have to say I found my visit rather disappointing, the drinks are way over priced and the food is (in my opinion) not worth the money.I know lots of folks rate this chain of restaurants, but I won't be returning.

I've always had lovely hot, fresh food from this Pizza Express. There are normally vouchers that you can download before you go to make the experience an even cheaper one! Sometimes the service is a little slow (hence the 4 rather than 5 stars).

Having Pre-booked table of 5, Surprised to find no table ready and that staff pushed two tables together after we arrived. Tables were filthy and we had to ask for cutlery. Pepper mill was thick with grime and flaky paint. Menu had old food stuck on it. Glass arrived with chipped edge. Staff were monosyllabic. Food arrived on time and was probably the high point. Restaurant was dirty. Tables, floors and window sills. Quite frankly in my opinion management should be ashamed of opening such an unhygienic establishment. Will be going back to Lewes branch in future.

I visited with 2 friends for a catch up yestersay and we were served drinks straight away which was good. Then I noticed that we had been sat on a table with no cutlery or water glasses. We put our order in then were chatting away. After quite some time (55 minutes) I noticed that the restaurant had a couple of new tables that had received their food and we were still waiting for our mains (we didn't order starters). I approached the waitress to ask about our food and after 5 minutes she cam back to explain that our meals had been entered into the computer but not sent to the kitchen.The manager had taken our food order and he was helping out in the kitchen as there was only one chef (during Easter holidays!) The manager avoided us for the rest of the time and only sent other staff members to talk to us.When the food eventually came out, mine came out when my 2 friends were already half way through their meals!I also have to ask for water and cutlery 3 times! They did discount our bill however as we had all previously worked as waiters it definitely was not the service we were expecting- especially from a manager.We will not be returning.

I may be wrong but the menu seems very reduced on what it used to be, several options no longer available, bruschetta con fungi, chicken arrabbiata and the broccoli side. The waitress was friendly, but the whole experience overall is really lacking and the food is certainly not that of the standard of the one in Brighton. The pollo pesto was really bland and the wait between starter was excessive when there were 3 tables in the whole restaurant. I'd give the Brighton one a go again but wouldn't come here, it's good if you want "OK" food on the cheap with an online voucher or cheap set menu. But full price is not worth it.

We went to pizza express in Oxted a few weeks ago and rated it as a five, unfortunately this was a two, the food was ok but service made us feel like we were in the way and had to ask for everything including cutlery. As a chain you know what you will get with your food what makes the difference is the service. Needs a good clean too!

I travelled from Reading to Uckfield to meet my family for lunch on my birthday yesterday, we met there as it was the most central place between 3 locations. Each family member travelled 45 mins so we could spend my birthday lunch together! I had been looking forward to it for ages. The first issue: My mother tried to book the table a week or two in advance, she eventually managed to book despite it being impossible to book. Pizza Express did not answer the phone/did not call back for days my brother had to leave a voicemail which finally got the restaurants attention.Second issue: Despite the booking being made in advance (for a mid February Saturday lunchtime - i.e. a very quiet time), when my parents and grandma arrived before the rest of us did, the table was not set up and tables in the restaurant were pushed up against windows etc it was all messy and like it was closed. The table was only for 7 of us and a baby. My mother was upset as she had bought presents/cards/cake etc and wanted it to be organised and give the table a birthday feel for when I arrived after a 2 hour train journey. My 80 year old grandmother was there too, who had to wait on another table whilst ours was laid up. My father has been very unwell recently too and it was the first time he had been out for lunch in months so this was not a great start. It is safe to say - yesterday was meant to be special and Pizza Express barely managed adequate. Third issue: The table was eventually set up, but no high chair given, despite my mother stating one was needed for my niece when she booked the table. It's a shame the table my mother had booked was not set up for arrival and we were not treated with a good level of service which paying customers deserve, i.e. welcoming, warm, friendly etc. It felt like we were a nuisance for being in the restaurant. We eventually all sat down and took our time chatting and ordering food. There was one pleasant waitress who tried her best, a man who occasionally popped in and out and didn't really know what was going on, and a lady who appeared once or twice but it was all random and disorganised. It should be that there is one or two people who work your table so it stays consistent. Apparently the restaurant was understaffed - the strange thing is there was about 4 tables being occupied in the whole restaurant - it was very quiet and the staff couldn't cope with 4 tables. Luckily the food was nice but it always is at Pizza Express. The main reason we all felt disappointed is due to the unfriendly welcome, the fact we were forgotten about (despite booking the table in advance) which is not what you expect especially for a birthday gathering, the mess ups with food orders - but that was not a huge issue - but as a whole we all felt frustrated as it isn't that hard to get it right. We also spotted a few customers come in wait by the door and were not seen to so they just walked out. One family came in and waited and eventually my parents shouted over to just go and sit down because no one would come!Luckily my family are great and we had a really lovely time because we chatted and weren't in a rush, but we expected better service and organisation and a more pleasant atmosphere than the experience we had. The restaurant was messy, disorganised, possibly understaffed or maybe undertrained, slow and just really bad at giving customers a good experience! The only thing that was good was that they put the cake my grandma had bought on a nice board with strawberries and chocolate writing which read Happy Birthday! I just hope you improve your staffing issues, train your staff in giving better customer service and take bookings seriously so people feel wanted and welcome in your restaurant not like they're a burden or nuisance! I will return and hopefully experience these changes! Thank you.

Visited last night at 20:15 after the cinema. Was shown to our table in a few minutes by a hurried member of staff. Sat down to a filthy table top menu had grease of some description on it. Another waiter a helpful chap noticed and moved us to next table. Our original table was not touched. There were wrappers and. Arduous other waste items all over the floor. Ordered drinks starters and mains all at once drinks took about ten minutes no problem a shared Calamari arrived after about 30mins staff shortage we were told 2 minutes later so did the mains arrived. Ate it and asked for the bill could not wait to get out of there. We was asked if we had a voucher my wife had one on her phone for a starter and pizza at half price. Was told the Calamari was NOT a starter. My wife spoke to the NEW manageress who explained five members of staff were no shows!!! It was half full!!! In the end drinks and starters were removed from the bill. Pizza Express support your manageress. Train the staff to be observant and clear tables as they walk past empty handed. PS ladies WC was filthy and no toilet paper. Pull your socks up.

Slow to be seated, 25 minutes to get a drink and 40 minutes to get food......come on Pizza Express pull your finger out! We arrived in plenty of time to get food before going to the cinema next door but you spoiled our evening with your sloppy service.....wakey, wakey! You weren't even busy

About the only place in Uckfield where you can eat late. We arrived about 9.30pm and had a good welcome and very good Pizzas. We were the last people in the restaurant but they didn't hurry us at all. Very pleasant service.

Helpful and charming staff but pity there was not a pizza to be seen. Booked an hour and a quarter before the film in the cinema next door thinking that would be ample for three 11 year olds to demolish one pizza each. No such luck. Paid over £10 for the three drinks before running for the cinema - hungry. And, btw, did tell them we were on a timetable.

We only EVER go to Pizza Express if we want pizza! Here in Uckfield we were NOT disappointed and had a very enjoyable meal in comfortable surroundings, friendly staff and terrific value. Enjoy!

We took our daughter in law and her mother here to celebrate her birthday. When we arrived there was only one section of the restaurant with filled tables. It wasn't too busy considering it was just after 1 o'clock and in the lead up to Christmas. Our waitress who was excellent came over to us and took our order for starters and mains.Our starters arrived in a reasonable time. This is where it fell apart. In the meantime the whole restaurant was filling up. I should point out that apart from our waitress there were two other members of staff, the manager and the "chef". We noticed that people who had arrived long after us were getting their food and we were still waiting. After 30 minutes the waitress came over and apologised and said that our food was being cooked now. Imagine our disappointment when we watched that food being delivered to another table.Once again we were assured that our order was being cooked - and it wasn't. We asked to speak to the manager. He came over huffing ang puffing. He said the words " I apologise" but his voice said that he couldn't care less. Our order had for some reason been put to the bottom of the pile twice. We told him that we were time limited because we had got to pick up our grandchildren. By this time we had been waiting 45 minutes for our mains and we would only have 10 minutes to eat it.We asked the manager what he could he do for us and he came back with what did we want him to do. My husband said give us our food. The manager said that if WE let him get back to the kitchen that is what we would do. Our food did arrive very quickly after that but my order was WRONG and had to go back. We didn't have time to eat all our pizzas so we had to take it away.We asked for the bill. The manager brought us over a standard letter of apology which offered us four free mains when we come back!! As if we wanted to. He waived the cost of the food we had had. The manager still didn't show any remorse and seemed quite rude. My daughter in law was most upset with his attitude. I don't think we will be going back any time soon.

I popped into Pizza Express for a quick bite late on Sunday afternoon. It's very close to the cinema, and I just wanted a quick one course meal before watching a movie.I ordered one of the less than 600 calorie pizzas. It was served quickly, was very tasty, and just what I wanted. The cost with a Diet Coke was £13.50.

We ordered a meal and sides for four of us for collection. We got an email as we arrived at the restaurant informing us that the entire order had been cancelled because an item Pizza Express included in their collection menu wasn't in fact suitable for collection. No attempt was made to contact us by phone, and we had to wait 30 minutes while they cooked the order, which rather defeats the idea of a takeaway menu. We could have had a meal in half the time (and for a third of the price) at Dominos or McDonalds. Never again!

Met up with a friend for an easy tea with lovely food and prossecco wine. The choice of starter was good, freshly prepared and presented well, main course, a pizza what else, cooked well and tasted good. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good value for money.

Meal was nice, slightly loud atmosphere, probably due to Christmas party meals with large groups of people.

Me and my girlfriend fancied a bite to eat and wanted to go out of our hometown for the evening, we had a 30% off voucher for pizza express so though we would try uckfield. I'm not a big fan of pizza express but my girlfriend likes it so I agreed, the food is fine nothing fancy but okay and the service is generally quite good (In Lewes anyway). On arrival we were greeted by what looked like a 12 year old boy which turned out was the manager........ He had no idea what he was doing rushing round like the restaurant was bustling when in fact it was nearly empty. It was the least relaxing meal I have ever had period as this child like manager was sprinting round everywhere seemingly doing nothing and skidding along the floor like 4 year olds do on the dance floor of a family wedding! Anyway the food was very dissapointing even for pizza ex got the starters completely wrong and tasteless when they did arrive, my main course was a calzone with no cheese in it and maybe two slices of salami and very little tomato sauce it was basically bread, my girlfriends pollo penne was capered to death and the drinks order was a disgrace (dirty glasses, beer not delivered) I must say it was my worst dining experience to date and just hope pizza express train there staff better in customer service and get rid of the manager who ruined our evening by skidding past us every two minutes what a chippy oik!

Like many folks, we visit pizza express restaurants in a number of towns. Recently i have been so disappointed at falling food standards, but most of all at some of the shabby upkeep/lack of cleaning (Brighton Marina Pizza Express I am talking to YOU!) ***BUT! This is a GREAT pizza express! The staff were warm, welcoming and attentive. The loos were sparkly clean. Our pizzas were fresh and tasty. We had a great, affordable, relaxing meal. Perfect. Thank you.

This is another one of those relatively rare reviews whereby I can say that everything was excellent - seems to be a theme going here!We just walked in on a Thursday night (admittedly 5pm) & were seated straight away on a table for two & selected against their main menu - we did have a 25% off voucher which made the choice of restaurant easy as we were going to the cinema afterwards - this made the meal brilliant value.The starters of calimari & garlic bread were wonderful as were the nicoise (seafood) pizza & lasagne for main course. The sizes were big & we didn't have room for dessert!Great service, great food & great value for money..Going back for sure & the regular money off codes are invaluable

We have been here a few times.. and i must say it is always a fantastic experience. Staff always very helpful and happy and nothing is ever too much. Food is brilliant and always arrives within a reasonable amount of time. I would highly recommend Pizza express for anyone wanting to eat out in Uckfield. You will not be disappointed!

We had an absolutely incredible lunch time at pizza express in uckfield. We sat outside, the food was delicious but most importantly the service we received was out of this world. So so attentive and went above and beyond! Pizza express, we visited on Thursday 15th sept, I didn't get her name but she deserves credit. Well done and thank you x

Had a quick dinner here and was impressed. Food was very good and my salad was fresh and tasty. Very clean, staff were helpful and attentive. Cost was reasonable too.

We have problems finding restaurants that cater for our vegan daughter, Pizza Express can and here my daughter said was the best cheese free pizza she had had. No small thing when she has eaten Pizza Express at least once a month for the past 2 yrs. The furnishing was ok but did not absorb sound so was quite loud and my mother suffered using her hearing aids. Something that all eateries should consider. On the whole though just right for our family visit

I love Pizza Express anywhere if I'm being quite honest, but it has to be said that some are a great deal nicer than others. This particular one is fab though, the staff are very friendly and helpful and I feel that it is in an excellent location. I have been to this one twice now, both times after a trip to The Picture House, and it was a very enjoyable experience on both occasions. I like the design inside too, very light and breezy. Thanks a lot, I will continue to enjoy good pizza and dough balls here :)

We usually make a booking for dinner after having been to the early evening film at the Uckfield Picture House. They always have offers online, which we download before we go. I don't eat pizzas, but they have excellent alternatives and my husband, who does eat pizzas, says they are very good. Staff are always very friendly and helpful, although usually very busy, and we enjoy our meals there.

We don't often go out for a meal as there 5 of us and the kids eat a lot these days. Pizza Express normally is a treat for us but sorry we did feel disappointed. Waiter was ok but not great, he seemed not quite there and very tired and was not smiley or particularly friendly at all. The food and drink took ages, we asked twice for air conditioning to be turned off or down, it was freezing in there and it was a cool evening outside so no need for air con, the door to the terrace was wide open as well, got the feeling that the air conditioning was on for the benefit of the staff not the customers. Asking twice is not on, the waiter muttered back unapologetically that he had asked the manager. They did turn it off/down but then cheekily turned it back on again later. Freezing draught down our backs. When we arrived waiter said he had no table for 5 so he added a chair to a table for 4 which was not a problem, the restaurant remained half empty so the point is he did not need to greet us with the negative 'no we do not have a table for 5'. Had to ask for pizza cutter, youngest son struggled for ages cutting it, really should just arrive on table with pizza. One pizza was undercooked, the lasagne had virtually no meat in it at all, all tomato paste and very fine mince which you could not taste. Asked for chilli oil, normally you get a bottle, he presented us with a minuscule pot of it which you could not easily add to the pizza. He did not check if we were enjoying meal and we had to wait quite a while each time we needed to catch his attention and restaurant was not that busy. He became marginally more cheery and helpful at the end of our meal which we took to mean he expected a tip. Our bill was 91 pounds for 5 which included 30% off, drinks really make the bill add up. The side salad is not nearly as nice as it used to be, chunks of cucumber and boring lettuce. Garlic mozzarella bread was too doughy and a bit tasteless. The 6 pound dessert sounded divine on menu, profiteroles but arrived as obviously defrosted hard little balls with a bit of cream and half a tatty,unripe strawberry plonked in the bowl. All in all, we will choose to go somewhere else next time. Nothing really bad but it should have been better than this for the money. Raspberry sorbet was delicious on a positive note and lots of parma ham on one of the pizzas.

Pizza Express has always been one of my favourite 'fancier' restaurants (as a teenager, I view it as fairly classy) and my recent experience in Uckfield has made it even better. Service is so great, food is always perfect (taste, temperature and presentation are always spot-on) and it isn't overpriced for the quality of the food. Will forever be going back!!

The food was as usual but waiter was quite disinterested ,didn't ask if we enjoyed meal.Decore was better before the recent refurb. They played noisy inappropriate music,quite loud. The whole restaurant was very noisy. We had old hard chairs.Service was indifferent. Not as nice as it used to be.

Pizza express food tends to be fairly uniform wherever you eat it but not on this occasion in Uckfield. The mushroom starter had about 4 thin slices of mushroom, equivalent to about half a mushroom and was full of red onion. Gave the waiter feedback and his only response was we have a trainee chef on and I will give him feedback. The extra red pepper added as a topping and costing £1.70 amounted to 4 very thin slices probably about a twentieth of a pepper. Such a shame as the refurbished restaurant looks good and Pizza Express food is usually simple and reliable.

Decide to pay another visit to check out the refurbishment and also to take advantage of a 30% off food deal, since we had a little reason for a mid week treat. The refurbishment was really nice, was hoping, however, it would be a little quieter with a wooden instead of a tiled floor but didn't really notice a change there. It was a Wednesday night and the place was very busy, luckily we had booked online before we arrived. Food was really great and waitress very pleasant. We had to wait longer than usual for our food; presumably because they were so busy and noticed that the guy in charge for the evening rolled up his sleeves and started helping in the kitchen, but it was all delicious, and cooked to perfection so no complaints there! I do feel that the prices are a little expensive if you visit without a voucher code. Will definitely return again.

Recently had a family meal in the newly refurbished restaurant. It looks good. Waitress was super friendly and great with the kids. I still think it's overpriced for pizza so only visit if we have vouchers.

Booked table prior to going to cinema nearby . Have been here many times and have never had any problems until last night . Service was awful , worst pizza we have ever had and served warm Procecco !!! The second glass we asked for replacements . Surely you put it in the fridge .They were obviously rushed off their feet and need more staff . The staff were all rushing around which was off putting as you're trying to have a relaxing meal . They did remove the pizza from our bill and 2 glasses of Procecco. We had a 40% off voucher and even that they got wrong !! So we left and doubt we will ever go back !!!

This is a perfect venue for a quick, (or longer) dinner after going to The Picture House at Uckfield. We were seated quickly, drinks order taken at once, and the delightful staff very helpful with our meal order. A very nice bottle of wine as well.

I must say I lost interest in Pizza Express over the years due to poor service and a lack of atmosphere in many other branches, but this is the first one for a long time that really is worth a visit. This was our second visit after a refurb of the restaurant, we called in on a Tuesday night and they were packed, in fact we just about got a table but others had to wait. This is a good sign and something you don't see very often in restaurants today and considering how busy they were the staff coped very well. We were greeted by young staff and nothing was too much trouble, we were warned of a wait for food but its seems the kitchen was on the ball and our food still came out in good time piping hot.Pizza's were great as i remember them being, service very good and we will be returning again. My favourite is the Fiorentina pizza classic base, simply the best for me.

It was good to visit after the building had a total refit. Same excellent service, good food, reasonable prices, plenty to choose from. A nice pleasant meal with some friendly staff..

I recently went to Pizza express Uckfield since its much needed make over & it is now such a lovely and sophisticated space. We received excellent service from our waitress Marta who was efficient and a ray of sunshine on a miserable June evening! Marta is a credit to pizza express & we return again soon! Highly recommend.

We went to this Pizza Express recently just hubby and I. As it was a wet Tuesday evening I decided not to book a table, do I wish I had. When we arrived we had to wait just a few minutes for a table, but that wasn't the problem. We placed our complete order including starters at 19:30 our drinks arrived quickly, starters arrived after 17 minutes, plates cleared quickly, we then had to wait 45 minutes for our mains to arrive, no apology was given, we were just informed that my husbands main was just going into the oven(he was having a Calzone) and would be another ten minutes. There were a lot of people complaining about the wait! What the problem was we never found out. We would return in the future especially if the company decide to sell draught lager as well as expensive bottled lager. We do find that this company are expensive not only for drinks but their food.

Good food and service. Looooved my pizza! And my friends enjoyed theirs too. Only down-side was that we went before 6pm- which was a time very popular with children. Best to go later to avoid the noise.

The food is exactly what you would expect from Pizza Express, the service is friendly, a bit slow sometimes but not too bad. The ambience is great, the hard surfaces amplify all the conversations so you get a constant vibrant buzz of conversation. I like this, although not everybody will. The noise levels mean kids' noise doesn't become intrusive, it just gets drowned out, perhaps this is why lots of families go here. So good food, good atmosphere and good value....why not check it out and make your own mind up? Wherever you go, keep supporting Uckfield's pubs and restaurants - we don't want to lose them!

Booked yesterday for Noon-as half term.In the end arrived touch earlier and thank goodness as within half an hour could not hear oneself speak due to children shouting and acoustics were pathetic.Tables are in urgent need of being replaced overnight-so well worn and amazed dragging their heels.1st impression is so important and touch of apathy-shame on management.Food itself was very good and well presented.All staff were attentive and happy.Dread to think when place is full as no doubt it is as to noise factor-need ear plugs issued.
