Pizza Express in Watford

Exactly what you would expect from a pizza express. Nice fluffy fresh dough balls and solid pizza. Service was fine, pizza came out quick. Interior is probably one of the nicest restaurants in Watford. Will come back!

Was a bit apprehensive about coming here after reading the reviews, but Pizza Express was a pleasant surprise! Piping hot, fresh food. Excellent service and a lovely ambience. Our waitress Nomusa was so lovely and is a big reason as to why we will be returning!

No friendly greeting at entrance, pizza took 45 mins and had to remind them twice. Food tasted decent, but the service and friendliness were just pathetic!

Great lunch with my family. Even better that the kids ate free. Thanks.

The pizza was great I just didn't enjoy the service. Also I believe the condiments should be on all the tables or at the very least offered when the pizza is brought to the table. I should not have to request it.

First time at Pizza Express at Watford high street we had an excellent service and delicious Food. Barbara our server was great , very friendly and attentive. Great service. Really recommend this place. I think she should be promoted straight away to be the Manager of this branch. She advised us few great ways to try to different pizza in one pizza. Ordered 2 adult pizzas, one children’s pizza and a salad, to be delivered Spent over £100 (which is ridiculous in itself) and waited almost two hours - and they did not even bothered to send enough butter for dough balls and no salad dressing for the Caesar salad, which is rather useless What I don’t understand is how much money will they save by not giving dressing , £0.25 ? Are the staff afraid of packaging dressing because it comes out of their wages?

Ordered at 21:00 for a 22:05 deluvery. Delivery time changed from 10 minutes to 14 minutes at least 20 times withing the hour. Pizza got here at 23:10 cold. Delivery guy said restaurant is busy but why was the pizza ice cold? Want full refund

Avoid ordering from this place, by far the worst pizza express in the uk, each and every time up to 4 Hours worth of waiting for a takeaway, i ordered 5pm is 7.30pm and no signs of it, still preparing, every single time the same situation i hope someone high in this restaurant chain will actually read the reviews and gets this place closed or sorted out.

I was actually surprised, the pizza was quite good for a big commercial chain. The taste was nice overall. The staff was also kind and made amazing drinks. There are some offers to pay less, like 2 cocktails for 1. For a pizza evening it is a good deal.

I love that I can order from the children's menu without being made to feel bad. I can only eat very small sized meals as I've had an operation on my stomach. I always have the Garlic Dough Balls followed by a Margarita Pizza and I'm never disappointed!

Food very good. Service was ok. We did have interact with 5 different servers, which was odd. When going to the restrooms, I noticed roughly 8 employees, around the side of the entrance, eating, talking and joking. While there were multiple tables with empty plates. The manager/host seems nice enough. But it almost feels like the business is run by the employees….rather than the management. Coming from a Branch Manager of retail, this is how it portrays the establishment. Overall experience = Ok. But obvious some people are not here to do a good job. Just get paid to do as little as possible 🤷🏻‍♂️

It was hard to get the servers attention. There never seemed to be right server (one who could take an order) available. The atmosphere is lovely as is the decor.

Staff are rude and make tables wait for service. In asking for help they aren't clear and don't know the menu. Visited on a very quiet lunchtime so no excuse for bad service .

A lot of negative stuff about PizzaExpress prices going round... but at the end of the day, the food is banging, staff are generally always top notch! I'm a full on meat eater and I demolished one of their veg Buddha bowls with zero regrets after for ordering it. I'm stuffed! Doughs balls had nothing... lol

”A Complete Disappointment” Unfortunately, our visit to this pizzeria was far from enjoyable. Right from the start, we were assigned a table upstairs, where a children’s birthday party was taking place. I completely understand that birthdays are special occasions, and of course, the kids are not to blame for being energetic and playful. However, the staff should have at least asked if we were okay with being seated in the middle of such an event. Customers should have a choice, and it was entirely the responsibility of the staff—especially the waiter in charge of seating at the time—to ensure that guests were comfortable. Instead, we were placed in a chaotic environment with children constantly running back and forth, making it impossible to enjoy our meal in peace. Adding to the frustration, our tables felt like they were crammed into a narrow passageway, squeezed too close together, leaving little space or privacy. Meanwhile, new customers were seated in equally inconvenient locations, and when some asked to change tables, they were told that reservations needed to be checked—despite the fact that two tables remained empty the entire time we were there. One of them was left dirty, covered in leftover food and dishes, and shockingly, it remained in that state even after we had finished eating and paid our bill. This lack of cleanliness and organization was unacceptable. Speaking of the bill, getting the staff’s attention was another struggle. The service was completely inattentive, disorganized, and uninterested in the customers. We had to wait 15 minutes just to pay, and it seemed like we were being ignored until we finally started leaving—only then did they suddenly notice us. This kind of service is simply not acceptable. To sum up, we came here expecting to enjoy a good pizza and a pleasant dining experience, but instead, we found ourselves in the middle of a noisy, chaotic situation with terrible organization. It’s a shame because the pizza itself might have been good, but the overall experience ruined any chance of us coming back. I do not recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-managed dining experience with professional service.

Waited absolutely ages for our food. When we mentioned we were fobbed off with an excuse about large parties. We had a special order because of a lactose allergy and were told the pasta isn't cooked fresh. It comes frozen and is warmed in the sauce. My pizza came with rocket and which was not very fresh. The leaves were a little limp but it was edible. The pizza was . The table opposite left and the table was not cleaned and we were in the restaurant for another hour. A really disappointing experience overall.

over 1.5 hours late. ridiculous service

Not a great first impression when I walk in at 11.32 am (2 minutes after opening time) and I'm met with an angry ladie doing a no motion with her fingers and more hand motions saying 2 more minutes. With continuous stares through the window as she mopped the floor. No one came to say we could come in after 5 mins longer waiting so I went in. Floor wet. Ushered upstairs. Went to use the bathroom (again - this was the beginning of their business day so everything should be clean and ready) the entrance to the bathroom had cleaning chemicals on the floor. The bathroom was dirty, floor covered in toilet paper etc. The man serving us was lovely but was massively overworked with the amount of people that he was in charge of. Families were soon being told it was a 50 minute wait for their food. I won't be going back in a rush!

Excellent pizzas by the chef Florin and also brilliant service by Oli who advised my wife on all the glutton and dairy options.

We visited Pizza Express today as part of a school trip to learn about the history of pizza and how to make pizza. The head chef looked after us extremely well. He was very patient with our special needs learners, giving them time to process the information and answer questions. As the weather was very bad, we were accommodated to stay at the restaurant and eat the pizzas we had made rather than try to carry them back to college in the pouring rain. The pizzas were delicious and enjoyed by all, thank you.

Delivery was on time but arrived cold.

Food to a good standard but collection was poor due to the friendliness of staff member that served me ( just handed the food didnt even look at me or say thankyou as if i was a burden) also made me wait an extra 10 minutes for the wrong food to be given to me to then find out my food was there the whole time :(

Entered a mildly busy evening. No welcome but told by who we think was the manager that if we don't have a booking, we can't have a table. We could see literally see empty tables all around but he stood firm with his "policy". So we booked a table online, infront of him and then he accepted. Its really like they don't want you to eat there. Pizzas are good but we certainly won't be going back to this rude, unwelcoming branch again.

Health and safety hazard! Waiter using purple D10 disinfectant solution in a marked bottle and spraying directly on and inside drinking glasses and then serving drinks in them. I saw him also spray it on a paper servillete and clean the inside of 3 water glasses and put them on the shelf. There is no sink for rinsing in that area of the restaurant and it must be inconvenient, see on the picture the bottles of mention product at the end of the bar. Use of that solution is clearly stated that it must be rinsed thoroughly after spraying on food contact surfaces. We chose to not drink with our meal after noticing. This is not acceptable.

We were advised to arrive at 19:25 and the website indicated that it was ready at that exact time. However when we got there, it wasn’t. Instead we had to wait ONE HOUR at the restaurant. I had to get food from somewhere else. I demand full refund!

Ordered and was told 45 mins then it kept going up and up when the time was getting closer, said the courier was at the restaurant for 40 minutes! food turned up freezing cold and rock hard, if its not ready to be delivered then it shouldn’t be Made!

Visited last year for world pizza day the staff are racist and rude and purposely served everyone before me. I will definitely not be returning.

Complete mess up since taking our order. Tables next to us both sides who came after us managed to get their or should I say our starts and then their I mean our pizzas before us as the server messed up the table numbers so we missed the starts only had the mains which where average just pure mess just after lunch time wasn’t too busy either. Gutted as pizza express is normally my go-to. Only decent thing was their manager who apologised.

Didn't have the pizzas we wanted or the drinks we wanted, but only told us that 15 minutes after we had ordered, so we had to go through the menu again. Food arrived nearly an hour after we arrived. Could have gone to a proper restaurant for the price we were charged. Service was pleasant enough. the food that we did eventually get was unremarkable.

Recently visited and ordered a pizza and two pasta dishes, pasta dishes arrived, no pizza, by the time the pizza had arrived the two others had nearly finished there pasta dishes. Paid the bill, no refund offered off drinks or starters to make up for the error, was told not policy. Restaurant error so should be more obliging, I didn't leave a tip, which I'd normally do, I would of expected better of a major chain.

Food spot on as any other pizza express , delicious and tasty. However looking at the more recent reviews I can see that my experience today was felt by other customers as well , service is incredibly slow , walked in manager on shift seemed bothered rather than happy to have more and more customers during a rush hour. We were greeted in a very serious manner and told to wait for a table despite seeing plenty of free ones from the back of the restaurant to the front. The wait on starters and mains was slow , planned on getting desserts but it would’ve taken too long , many customers around us seemed annoyed by the slow service and even forgotten about when asking for a drink. Tables took a while to get cleaned , staff mainly chatting amongst themselves and any other staff members apart from the manager on shift would ignore everyone standing at the front waiting. The location and atmosphere has so much potential and Id love to come back again but service really matters to make the dining experience better , regardless of a managerial position or not if you’re not happy to work in hospitality then don’t.

We had table booked for 7 people including 3 children. We arrived and it took 45 minutes for anybody to come over and speak to us to take any drinks orders despite requesting twice for waitress to come over. Once food was finally ordered it took another 55 minutes for food to arrive, with one main meal missing - almost 2 hours after we had arrived.

Poor food, asked for exclusions but pizza came with it anyway, couldn't get hold of a team member until finished, even after then we could not get the attention of staff and paid via app and left. Very expensive, poor food and service.

The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was relaxed for a Friday evening, sadly, we weren’t greeted by anyone, the woman who served us, had absolutely no desire to be at Pizza Express in Watford. She made zero eye contact and did the bare minimum. She made our evening mildly unpleasant, as a result, we didn’t leave a tip - there was no thank you or bye, hence this comment. It was an awkward exit. When asked where the toilets were, two female staff were talking snot their night out, and looked annoyed, as I had interrupted them. They told me “upstairs”, and carried on talking. I had to ask where is the upstairs, as it was my first visit! We ordered mint teas, the leaves weren’t the best - see photos. The pizzas were delicious.

The food was very tasty. We had the dough balls Al fresco, a sloppy Giuseppe pizza and the ultimate chocolate fudge cake. The service wasn't bad, but it wasn't very quick either.

I never received my order I have rang pizza express and they still have my food !!!!! But app states delivered I want my money back !!

Poor service, pizza not baked properly. Staff made themselves look busy but actually doing not alot while we sat 30 mins just to be acknowledged. No stars. Wouldn't go back.

Ordered at 21:41, original estimated delivery time was 22:05. My order arrived at 22:46, during this time there was a lack of updates from the restaurant and they did not pick up the phone when I tried to call multiple times. The food arrived cold and was unenjoyable.

Had a great time at Pizza Express. Decided to go for romana pizza-american hot. It came out really quick, hot and tasty. Staff very attentive, restaurant clean.

Family of 4 went in today 7/12/24 around 5pm we were seated then waited for 30 mins nobody came over and even asked if we wanted a drink let alone order food. Services was terrible no wonder pizza express is struggling. We only had 2 hours before had to be somewhere else, so I thought at this rate we would never make it so we decided to just leave before ordering anything and had a takeaway on the way back.

Order was supposed to take 25-40 minutes to be delivered. An hour after placing the order, it finally left the restaurant and arrived at 8.10pm instead of 7.30. I tried calling the restaurant several times whilst I was waiting, but nobody answered the phone. Dreadful service and I will not be ordering from Pizza Express again. The courier clearly was waiting around for 30 minutes or more at the restaurant, poor guy.

Waited 40 minutes, when asked about the ETA received a rude response from the lady with glasses standing at the front of the house, no proper management, received wrong pizza even after waiting for 40 minutes and got charged extra. Ordered one pizza and got charged £18.30 for that.

Saturday 24th November: The moody middle aged bald guy at the front of the house needs to sort his attitude out. As the front of the house you should be greeting customers with a smile, yet he was the complete opposite. We walked in at 5pm and it was almost empty, to be told “can you not see the sign outside we are fully booked so its online reservations only” and in a rude way of saying it too. Funnily enough we went online and booked on the website just under 30mins later with loads of availability? Why couldnt he have booked us in there and then or reserved us a table for 30mins time? Attitude problems thats why. Poor .

Take away delivery order was wrong when it arrived upon attempting to contact the restaurant was hung up on and to make matters worse after paying for delivery the customer services team member thought it would be prudent to ask to go and collect from the restaurant and they advised that they would not redelivery even thought it their mistake. Attempted multiple times to contact the restaurant to no avail. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from this staff member not only within the restaurant but also from the customer service rep. Highly dissatisfied and have been left with no option to order food elsewhere where leaving my children hungry..

Placed a delivery order with this branch and was delivered the wrong order. Attempted to contact the restaurant and advised that the wrong order has been sent out was then hung up upon. After attempting to contact customer services was then advised to go and collect the order from the store which is remarkably stupid as delivery had already been paid. Highly disappointed and will be taking this further!

I recently had a disappointing experience at Pizza Express that I feel compelled to share. My visit started off on the wrong foot when I ordered a small portion of dough balls and waited over 40 minutes for them to arrive. Like, was Nara Smith cooking it or something?! It was hard to believe that such a simple item could take so long, especially when the restaurant wasn’t even busy. When I finally received my order, the waiter seemed extremely dismissive and rude, which only added to my frustration. Not only were we starving, but also very impatient and ignored. It felt as though my presence was an inconvenience rather than a reason for her to provide good service. I was aired multiple times, feeling ignored and belittled. As for the food itself, it was quite simply inedible. The dough balls were gross and, disturbingly, undercooked. They had a raw texture that made them unappetizing. The chocolate dessert I ordered was equally disappointing; instead of being melted and gooey, it was solid and unappealing. To make matters worse, the other dessert was terrible.

Cold pizza dry pizza awful pizza on this occasion I didn’t enjoy it!
