Pizza Express in Watford

Very rude old purple hair lady, kept saying different times the food would be ready for collection obviously didn't want me there, food was bad too, awful pizza. Edit: Next time you reply to a review you should delete the part that says [add personalisation here] to atleast give the illusion you are and did not copy past a pre-written message. Also I have still not heard anything back from you but that was expected given the level of service at the watford branch.

TBF Pizza Expresses are normally pretty good and consistent but this one shines a bit brighter because of the warm welcome from Paul and the team - it’s also a lovely building. A star taken off for the P Ex eye watering prices and lack of offers nowadays but enjoyed our visit.

Normally avoid pizza express, but everything they produced here at this location on the day we went was great. UPDATE, although the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the food is very average

Lovely food, I thoroughly enjoyed the new La Cubana pizza. The main part of the restaurant, located at the back of the premises, is quite dark and lacks atmosphere, would be nice for the evening but it's a bit dreary for the middle of the day. Some extra lighting could help here

Great place with great ambiance. Not too crowded good service. Just the pizza had a really thin crust, but was tasty. Been here before students will have a discount and if you are a premium member you'll get a 50% off on your pizza.

By far the worst Pizza Express we have been too. We had a 12:30 booking but arrived early, around 12:15, by 13:30 and an hour of chasing we were told the food would be a couple of minutes, which was not true, we checked with the kitchen and they hadn't even started it. We had three six year olds that were very patient but in the end got so hungry we had to go to another restaurant for lunch. Not only was the service terrible the restaurant was not very clean with left over food on the menus and dirty knives and forks. I would suggest staying away from this restaurant.

It was a really lovely meal and place

This was the last straw for me with this place. If you're desperate enough to end up on the toilet like we did after ordering here, do so! Our pizzas tasted like they were 2 days old and reheated. My chewy cardboard pizza was even colder than my husbands. Within 5 hours we started to get unwell. Ordered through deliveroo. Bad review for service as well os because we've been to the restaurant before and the staff would ignore our presence and walk past us several times. Note the restaurant was empty and we ordered 2good2go 2 hours ahead before closing time , only to pick up. Not eat inside. Very dismissive behaviour as we tried to eat here once on a busy day, being told that we need to book a table ahead before coming here.

Arrived a little late but was quickly seated and had our drinks and orders taken. Great service from Macy and team! Will be returning for another party next year.

Popped in for a late lunch. Fairly quiet. The food was nice and the waitress pleasant. Only issue was that the chef had to keep ringing the bell for service and the waitresses not responding resulting in food going cold. The worst cappuccino I've ever had. Watery with no taste and no froth. Toilets also need a good bleaching!

Much better than previous visit both food quality and service improved. But no toilet paper in the loo! Not what you would expect from the sort of venue they try to be.

Every time we visit we get brilliant service, Lucy was particularly helpful today, very happy.

First time we've visited this branch but decided to have lunch here before the football. Usual P. Ex. high standard of food but really liked the quirky building. We had a seat in a quieter area on the first floor. Special mention for our waitress, Macy, who was friendly, speedy and v efficient. Should our football team have the misfortune of playing football at Watford again next season, this is definitely where we will come to eat before the game.

Lovely food as always but the service was slow and the staff inattentive. Not up to the standards we get when we go to the Hemel Hempstead and Harpenden branches.

Staff unwelcoming and inattentive. I ordered olives, dough balls, a margherita and a nastro azzurro. They forgot the olives, dough balls were good, pizza uncooked, beer was flat although it was bottled. The floor under the table was dirty with splashed drinks. 5 tables included mine and very little care from the waiting staff

Great food and service as always. The young man at front of house was very attentive... even funny ! Made the experience even more enjoyable.

The staff were slow and awkward. We had a party of 10 children and when we asked staff for the late food or to clear the table they kept telling us that their shift had ended and basically it's not their problem anymore!

Service was ok but the food was sad with no love and very lacking in actual toppings. So if you love bread and minimum toppings you're in the right place. Otherwise book in at L'artista up the road, that's actual Italian food!

Havent been to PE for a while so stopped off before going to theatre. Very pleasantly surprised, the service was excellent - thank you Gosia. The food very good and the ambiance of the restaurant very pleasant, we were seated to the rear where it is relatively quiet. We will visit again when next in the area !

I honestly don't see what the fuss is about . Overpriced food, pizza is nothing special, small portions and generally just paying for a name. The atmosphere was OK tables bit close together , not value for money. Edit generic response from pizza express , back up the poor customer service

Brilliant restaurant, good atmosphere and the staff we’re organising polite and friendly. The food was good in keeping with other Pizza express’s weve been too The lack of stars comes from the plus 1 hour wait for our mains. My wife was pregnant and famished. We had to ask for our food, which was then immediately brought out. It wouldn’t have been an issue if they were very busy, but they were not. Most of the diners had already been served when we arrived.

Whilst the serving staff were all lovely, the bald maître d’ was rude and unhelpful, we had to go and get our own high chair for our baby and he acted as though he was doing is a real favour by allowing us to come in and eat. Luckily as soon as we dealt with someone else the rest of the meal was nice

Waited over 45 min and no sign of our food. When I asked I was told it would be at least another 10-15 min. We left hungry!

Pizzas - particularly the classic bases - were underwhelming. Slightly undercooked, and thus no "bite" when biting in. In addition, one was served without the Cajun spice mix listed in the description, and we had to ask for it to be added. The dough balls were as good as ever, and the drinks also. Service was a plus, too.

I went here today and the service was amazing I liked the restaurant so much, in my opinion, TJ was a reasonable waiter, kind and helpful, He should also get a raise.

Had dough balls and Pesto pasta which both tasted ok, but hygiene standards here leave a lot to be desired, cutlery not clean and picture is of the jug of water, disgusting.

The most yummy pizza we have ever eaten, was expensive but worth the money

We had vegan dough balls for two with dipping sauces, and a vegan pizza. It was all delicious. The service was fast and friendly, everything was clean and tidy, and the food was excellent. Loved it. If you're vegan, be sure to ask for the vegan menu; there are a lot of vegan options on it that aren't on the regular menu, from what I could see. Highly recommended!

Had an early lunch reservation at 11.30am. They were not really ready, the service was slow, not very friendly and it is really expensive now.

Will never visit Watford pizza express. Highly disappointed by lady who is rude and irrogant . Not interested to serve me or just simply racist without saying. Waited more then one hour just for one pizza while resurant is half empty. Many time asked about water or order she never come back to me with answer. Highly unprofessional and rude. Wasted my Friday evening

Had lunch today around 14:30 with my son, very impressed with this branch! Manager showed us a table and then we had very friendly service from Gosia. We had very tasty two pizza Fiorentina and a bottle of water! Short and pleasant lunch! Well done guys, keep smiling, we need this kind of service in every restaurant!

Visited for a work event where we did an adult pizza making party. The staff were so attentive and it was brilliant value for money. We laughed the whole 2 hours and had a great time. Special thanks to Gosha, Plamen, Florin and Macy for making it a great evening!

We had a team night out at Pizza Express in Watford on Tuesday and did their Pizza Making Party for Adults. From start to finish the staff were brilliant, attentive and really made the evening so much fun. It was one of the best nights out we've had as a team. We all loved making our own pizza and it combined a team activity with a meal! A big thankyou to Gosha, Plamen, Florin & Macy who made our night extra special - I highly recommend this event, and the pizza was incredible too - even if I do say so myself, thankyou so much to you all!

Ordered 3 pizzas via Deliveroo. All excellent but one had a strand of black hair on it, which is extremely unhygienic. Reported it to Deliveroo and somehow this is now acceptable. Disappointed by both on this occasion.

I used this place for my daughter's birthday party and Paul and his colleagues helped me a lot to make her party special. I really appreciate it. Lovely restaurant, lovely service. Strongly recommend!

Food was just ok, takes forever to make a meal, we waited around 35 mins. Pricing was high. Manager was rude, as soon as we stepped in she startled us saying the table we chose was reserved while there was no sign of it being so. Mark's service was exceptional, he was polite professional & thoughtful.

Generous seating area, sometimes it can get busy and you may need to wait a little longer to order, receive the food/drinks and pay the bill. The pizza is good and comes in decent sizes. Medium-range prices. A place to go if you want to have a pizza but you are not in a big rush.

When in for a quick, quiet bite to eat. Fulfilled all my needs, as was in and out within 30mins.

Never falters. Staff are always super friendly, mood is always really relaxed and free flowing. Food is always top quality; can’t complain. You know what you’re getting when you come here, reliability and great grub :)

Absloute joke when it came to serving size,

Very dirty restaurant. Glasses that drinks were served in were absolutely disgusting. The waiter started to pour drinks into the glasses in such a rush. Most went on the table he had a look and just walked off

Nice food and lovely venue. Always have a pleasant time here however most recent visit was for a large table (12 people) we are understanding a large table takes a long time to serve so no concerns about this. However our waitress seemed either new or untrained as it took 48 minutes to receive our initial drinks order (2 bottles of wine, 2 beers and a mixer) and a member of our party had to go over and point to which glasses we wanted for Prosecco. We had another few awkward issues when ordering things but overall it was good. I just felt bad that either a new or untrained waitress had been given such a large table. Possibly a miss by management. Regardless a lovely experience overall.

We had pre booked this place as we had not been for a very long time. Busy being a Saturday evening. Shown to a table upstairs, we had Hope who was brilliant. Ordered the gluten free vegan gardiena and the other half a meat pizza. Drinks were fine, Meal arrived lovely and hot. Throughout the meal Hope kept just checking we were fine with our meal and if we needed anything else.

Good food, excellent attention. The fabric of this PH is looking a little tired now.

Arrived for our booking at 7:45 and didn’t receive our starters until 8:40 and mains until 9:10 which is a super long wait time. All the other tables got their starters before us and one table even finished their mains, desserts and coffee in that time. I’ve machine was broken so we both had lukewarm drinks that costed £3.75. When the doughballs arrived with the calamari they were cold but we had waited so long we couldn’t be fussed to send them back; I imagine the doughballs were ready first and they were waiting for the calamari? I’m not sure. Forgot the sauce for our polenta chips starter so we reminded them. Overall spent around £55-£60 for poor service and wait time and to be honest pretty average food:/ waiters were friendly and it was a nice enough restaurant but really hot-didn’t help not having ice.

Used Tesco vouchers with absolutely no issue! Always nice :) But service was quite strange. Waiter seemed overwhelmed and slightly on edge, we had to repeat our order a couple of times for him to get it down & understand. All the food was delicious, but it did take 45 mins for the starter to arrive and then the main arrived way to soon after! Dessert was 10/10. I think as it was a Friday night, even though the restaurant wasn’t packed they had a lot of deliveries in which were overwhelming staff. Do still go if you want a good meal with great portions - but give yourself way more time then you’ll think it’ll take!!

Worst place to eat… came with my husband for lunch today and ordered 2 pizzas. After a while my husband got his pizza but I’ve been told that my pizza will come shortly.I was wanting for about one hour for my pizza and when I asked the waitress how long is gonna take she said they are to busy and still need to wait. Very unprofessional and unwell trained staff I ever seen as well as the manager that give the staff so many tasks to do and they end up mixing orders and keep people waiting. I wouldn’t recommend this place. If I would have an opinion I will probably rate this place not even 1 star.

Always great service and food. And the atmosphere is lively. Recommend booking. Still, and will always, love dining at Pizza Express. Best dine-in pizza chain in UK as far I am concerned. May they succeed for a long time.

Have not been to a Pizza Express since my local one closed, so thought it a good place to meet a friend for lunch. The restaurant is attractive with plenty of space. However the service and the food were both very poor. I wanted a light meal, so asked for the much advertised NEW lunch menu, but was told it was not available. So next chose chicken from the Starters menu, but again no, not available. Eventually we both opted for a salad, one Nicoise and one chicken Caesar, and they were poor quality. A mound of dark, tough lettuce leaves and rocket, with minimal amounts of the extra ingredients. They were nowhere near the standard of salads I have enjoyed at a different Pizza Express in the past, and at £13.95 not worth the money. Although the place was not terribly busy the service was slow, and the staff appeared offhand and not really interested in making you feel welcome. Will not be going there for lunch again.

We're regulars at this Pizzaexpress and it never fails to disappoint.:) Zafir is our usual server and he's always kind and has a smile on his face. We'll definitely be coming back again. 🫶

Decent place to visit for food. When it is busy, you would have no choice than to wait for more than 30 minutes but when it is less busy, you can expect food in 10-15 minutes!

Rude for no reason would expect better from a manger only guessing because you wasn’t in uniform. Rude when we came in for no reason said it’s just us 2 then he goes only got this table over here doesn’t look around the back somehow knew it was the only table as he was standing by the door the whole time don’t know how he knew as you can’t see through walls but anyway get told that’s the only table (right by the stairs in the way of people walking past) then said if you don’t like it you can leave and then when I said it’s okay he said go and sit down then I’ll bring then menus over. We didn’t make a fuss or anything we literally had just come in through the door it’s like there was a problem with us because we was young I’m still trying to figure out if we done something wrong or if it was because we are young but don’t know what it was but felt very awkward wish we had walked out. No matter what restaurant or how busy or wherever the table is you always get showed to the table and given your menus so I don’t know if you was having a bad day we all have them. Second manger I’m guessing as not in uniform who was taking our orders was a bit better kind of just left us several times though wondering what was going on only 1 person was helpful who could see that we’d been left to make sure we was alright wasn’t happy but just said yeah plus the both pizzas had been burnt slightly felt like we had poor service everyone around us seemed happy but we wasn’t ruined our evening thank you to the one lady that checked in with us so we wasn’t left waiting any longer for the bill when we just wanted to go

Not enough staff!!! 40 mins wait to receive the food after order. Is the restaurant prioritising the delivery orders over restaurant customers? I saw a few of these orders going out but all in restaurant customers were waiting over 40 mins. The table staff were apologetic, but not able to do anything. With this level of waiting time, I am reluctant to go to another Pizza express. Feed back says contact manager - I did and there was no reply. Wasted my time sending email to manager!!

I went today with my wife and her sister, they are vegetarian so the pizza and salad and starters were sorted, I had American hot, made it hot like I wanted, please try the Sticky toffee it was great….Robert served my family and he needs promotion, will go back as I live in Chichester

First we order cesar salad and 2 times pasta+extra dresing They forgot the dresing . The spagheti was not very good,no taste, i order with mushroms and there was only 3 small slices .... At the end they forgot also the cesar deep on the salad,also the chichen was very very dry. The lady ask us do we want the sos but we already finish with the food ,without the salad. Sorry but cesar salad with no cesar sos for +12£ no thanks,with 2 drinks we pay 55£ sorry but this place is overprices. I recommended FRIDAY than pizza express. In the more restaurants they give u another food for free.

I always enjoy eating in at pizza express watford. staff are usually all very friendly and the food really comes out good everytime. Great little venue.

The manager (the man with the bold head as I did not know how many managers worked there) was so rude and arrogant: acted like he owned the place and the food was free. Surely, he needed to learn how to talk to customers. We were taken straight away to upstairs when down stairs had many places and offer a table near two families with kids making loud noises ( I do understand when you have a big family obviously they make louder noise). I went with my two grown daughters to have peaceful dinner. There were plenty places available down stairs which he didn’t offer. When I asked to go down he was not happy and rudely asked ‘ why do I need to go?’. I explained to him saying here it was too noisy. His response was, “ Down satires would be more noisier”. I said that it didn’t matter, I rather go to down stairs. He took us showing his unhappiness.The rest of the staff were very friendly and the service was good. The food was average .

Food came late, we were sitting at front of restaurant and all seemed chaotic due to them prioritising deliveries. Family next to us with 2 young kids were waiting before and us and our food came before there’s, Wife’s gluten free pizza was uncooked and didn’t even get an apology from the people manager. Go elsewhere and save your money. All about profits with these big chains!
