Pizza Express in Watford

Ordered and was told 45 mins then it kept going up and up when the time was getting closer, said the courier was at the restaurant for 40 minutes! food turned up freezing cold and rock hard, if its not ready to be delivered then it shouldn’t be Made!

Excellent service - so friendly & helpful. Really enjoyed our tasty pizza. Dough balls as good as ever. Think he was the Manager in white shirt - he was excellent.

Didn't have the pizzas we wanted or the drinks we wanted, but only told us that 15 minutes after we had ordered, so we had to go through the menu again. Food arrived nearly an hour after we arrived. Could have gone to a proper restaurant for the price we were charged. Service was pleasant enough. the food that we did eventually get was unremarkable.

Recently visited and ordered a pizza and two pasta dishes, pasta dishes arrived, no pizza, by the time the pizza had arrived the two others had nearly finished there pasta dishes. Paid the bill, no refund offered off drinks or starters to make up for the error, was told not policy. Restaurant error so should be more obliging, I didn't leave a tip, which I'd normally do, I would of expected better of a major chain.

Food spot on as any other pizza express , delicious and tasty. However looking at the more recent reviews I can see that my experience today was felt by other customers as well , service is incredibly slow , walked in manager on shift seemed bothered rather than happy to have more and more customers during a rush hour. We were greeted in a very serious manner and told to wait for a table despite seeing plenty of free ones from the back of the restaurant to the front. The wait on starters and mains was slow , planned on getting desserts but it would’ve taken too long , many customers around us seemed annoyed by the slow service and even forgotten about when asking for a drink. Tables took a while to get cleaned , staff mainly chatting amongst themselves and any other staff members apart from the manager on shift would ignore everyone standing at the front waiting. The location and atmosphere has so much potential and Id love to come back again but service really matters to make the dining experience better , regardless of a managerial position or not if you’re not happy to work in hospitality then don’t.

We had table booked for 7 people including 3 children. We arrived and it took 45 minutes for anybody to come over and speak to us to take any drinks orders despite requesting twice for waitress to come over. Once food was finally ordered it took another 55 minutes for food to arrive, with one main meal missing - almost 2 hours after we had arrived.

Poor food, asked for exclusions but pizza came with it anyway, couldn't get hold of a team member until finished, even after then we could not get the attention of staff and paid via app and left. Very expensive, poor food and service.

The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was relaxed for a Friday evening, sadly, we weren’t greeted by anyone, the woman who served us, had absolutely no desire to be at Pizza Express in Watford. She made zero eye contact and did the bare minimum. She made our evening mildly unpleasant, as a result, we didn’t leave a tip - there was no thank you or bye, hence this comment. It was an awkward exit. When asked where the toilets were, two female staff were talking snot their night out, and looked annoyed, as I had interrupted them. They told me “upstairs”, and carried on talking. I had to ask where is the upstairs, as it was my first visit! We ordered mint teas, the leaves weren’t the best - see photos. The pizzas were delicious.

The food was very tasty. We had the dough balls Al fresco, a sloppy Giuseppe pizza and the ultimate chocolate fudge cake. The service wasn't bad, but it wasn't very quick either.

I never received my order I have rang pizza express and they still have my food !!!!! But app states delivered I want my money back !!

Poor service, pizza not baked properly. Staff made themselves look busy but actually doing not alot while we sat 30 mins just to be acknowledged. No stars. Wouldn't go back.

Ordered at 21:41, original estimated delivery time was 22:05. My order arrived at 22:46, during this time there was a lack of updates from the restaurant and they did not pick up the phone when I tried to call multiple times. The food arrived cold and was unenjoyable.

Had a great time at Pizza Express. Decided to go for romana pizza-american hot. It came out really quick, hot and tasty. Staff very attentive, restaurant clean.

Family of 4 went in today 7/12/24 around 5pm we were seated then waited for 30 mins nobody came over and even asked if we wanted a drink let alone order food. Services was terrible no wonder pizza express is struggling. We only had 2 hours before had to be somewhere else, so I thought at this rate we would never make it so we decided to just leave before ordering anything and had a takeaway on the way back.

Order was supposed to take 25-40 minutes to be delivered. An hour after placing the order, it finally left the restaurant and arrived at 8.10pm instead of 7.30. I tried calling the restaurant several times whilst I was waiting, but nobody answered the phone. Dreadful service and I will not be ordering from Pizza Express again. The courier clearly was waiting around for 30 minutes or more at the restaurant, poor guy.

Waited 40 minutes, when asked about the ETA received a rude response from the lady with glasses standing at the front of the house, no proper management, received wrong pizza even after waiting for 40 minutes and got charged extra. Ordered one pizza and got charged £18.30 for that.

Saturday 24th November: The moody middle aged bald guy at the front of the house needs to sort his attitude out. As the front of the house you should be greeting customers with a smile, yet he was the complete opposite. We walked in at 5pm and it was almost empty, to be told “can you not see the sign outside we are fully booked so its online reservations only” and in a rude way of saying it too. Funnily enough we went online and booked on the website just under 30mins later with loads of availability? Why couldnt he have booked us in there and then or reserved us a table for 30mins time? Attitude problems thats why. Poor .

Take away delivery order was wrong when it arrived upon attempting to contact the restaurant was hung up on and to make matters worse after paying for delivery the customer services team member thought it would be prudent to ask to go and collect from the restaurant and they advised that they would not redelivery even thought it their mistake. Attempted multiple times to contact the restaurant to no avail. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from this staff member not only within the restaurant but also from the customer service rep. Highly dissatisfied and have been left with no option to order food elsewhere where leaving my children hungry..

Placed a delivery order with this branch and was delivered the wrong order. Attempted to contact the restaurant and advised that the wrong order has been sent out was then hung up upon. After attempting to contact customer services was then advised to go and collect the order from the store which is remarkably stupid as delivery had already been paid. Highly disappointed and will be taking this further!

I recently had a disappointing experience at Pizza Express that I feel compelled to share. My visit started off on the wrong foot when I ordered a small portion of dough balls and waited over 40 minutes for them to arrive. Like, was Nara Smith cooking it or something?! It was hard to believe that such a simple item could take so long, especially when the restaurant wasn’t even busy. When I finally received my order, the waiter seemed extremely dismissive and rude, which only added to my frustration. Not only were we starving, but also very impatient and ignored. It felt as though my presence was an inconvenience rather than a reason for her to provide good service. I was aired multiple times, feeling ignored and belittled. As for the food itself, it was quite simply inedible. The dough balls were gross and, disturbingly, undercooked. They had a raw texture that made them unappetizing. The chocolate dessert I ordered was equally disappointing; instead of being melted and gooey, it was solid and unappealing. To make matters worse, the other dessert was terrible.

Very disappointed with the Watford Pizza Express. I didn't say anything to the waitress she looked embarrassed enough. I didn't ask for my money back. The customer should expect to get a level of quality of food for the over priced menu. 14.95 for a ceaser salad, 2 tiny bits of anchovy, 4/5 tiny bits of cold chicken, limited sauce, and probably the worst dark green (fresh out the rabbits cage) lettuce leaves. No croutons and they now charge nearly £3 for the dough sticks. 6.99 for the smallest, barely cooked garlic flatbread. Well, plenty other restaurants in town so won't be back here! Gutted because I used to like Pizza Express. And the restaurant was filthy.

Good Pizza express very kid friendly. Good offer with kids eat free. There only appeared to be 1 toilet, which meant that we had to queue.

I recently tried the Classic Padana pizza, and unfortunately, it was the worst vegetarian pizza I’ve ever had. The toppings were bland, and the combination just didn’t work. The goat cheese, which should have been a highlight, was overpowering and tasted off. The onions were undercooked, and the base lacked the crispness and flavor that you’d expect from a good pizza. Overall, the pizza felt greasy and unappetizing. I was really disappointed, especially since I was expecting something fresh and flavorful from a vegetarian option. Definitely not worth the price or the hype.

Despite arriving at what looked like an incredibly busy Saturday Lunch. We were a a family of 5. Paul and his team found us a table within minutes of our arrival. Gulsen our waitress provided menus and took a drinks so efficiently & professionally. Our food order was promptly taken, Gulsen was very knowledgeable, regarding dish ingredients. On a personal note. Marco the chef and his team produced the best thin based Pizza’s, different toppings, amazing flavours. My Granddaughter had Mac & cheese, lovely and creamy. A huge thanks to the team at Watford. High Street.

This branch of Pizza Express is in a listed building and has a lovely ambience. Staff were welcoming and friendly. The menu was good value for money.

Initial estimate to arrive between 18.50 to 19.10. Arrived at 20.49 with app telling me at one point it had been already delivered. It hadn't. When it arrived it was luke warm and tasted like it was made at 18.30 (as kitchen ticket said) - inedible

Very slow service and the staff very noisy, from waiters being shouting to behind bar plates dropping. Don't expect a quiet and swift service there. Pizza was good.

Service was very poor. We were greeted with Hi, there’s a 30 minute wait. Almost like they didn’t want us to come in. Service took so long but food was decent. Atmosphere okay but the background music so quiet almost felt awkward.

Good Pizza only the one concern is there is no sign warning people of the step , which nearly caught me out by the restroom sign , before going up the stairs to the toilet

Pizza Stone cold. Not Just-Eat's fault by the looks of it, as the order was in "preparing" for a long time. Not the first time. Wouldn't order from here but the cardboard pizza is the only thing my daughter will have, so here we are.

Such an awful experience. I did my son’s bday party at Pizza Express. I called in advance to ask if I should pre-order as there were 13 kids. The manager said no need to pre order they can quickly serve when we arrive. The food took such a long time to arrive with so many gaps in between. Obviously the kids were getting impatient and all they could do was chit chat among themselves. The staff was making faces every time we ask for something and kept complaining directly to the kids to keep the noise down. The noise wasn’t anything unreasonable. When asked for extra cups, they said we ran out of cups. They made the whole experience so unpleasant for us which was awful esp considering we went there to celebrate a very special occasion. I think this Pizza Express should advertise themselves as Adult only restaurant as they are totally incapable of serving kids.

We were looking for somewhere to have late lunch having travelled into Watford for an appointment. My husband and I had our three year old and newborn with us this afternoon so decided that a pizza express would be a good choice as my son loves our local one in Gerrads cross. On arrival only one of the doors was open so my husband entered with our older son and I had to wait outside with the pram until someone could assist. A few people entering the restaurant asked if I would like help and offered to open the door, however I explained that my husband had gone inside to ask for assistance. He spoke to a waiter who asked if it was okay if we could leave our pram outside (in the middle of a high street!?) A very rude man (looked like the managed/ waiter) came to the door banged a chair down on the floor and unlocked the second door so we could enter. On thanking the man, he responded with a huff and shrugged his shoulders. A waitress showed us to a table at the very back of the restaurant in a corner when there were plenty of unoccupied tables available at the front of the restaurant to the sides (it felt like they they were deliberately being difficult) Whilst watching my husband try to manoeuvre our three year old into a seat I saw the waiter muttering to the waitress and pointed over at the pram. This restaurant seems itself as family friendly, wheelchair and buggy friendly yet I see absolutely no evidence of that! Having seen how the pizza express was run in this town which looked filthy and overcrowded with tables all over the place we are glad that we left of our own accord and shall stick to our usual one where we returned later that day to the best service and wonderful smiles on the waiters/waitresses faces (who were fabulous with our children!) Anyone with young families or very little children STAY CLEAR! Everyone else stay clear if you would like a free smile with your meal.

If you like swarms of fruit flies hovering around you and your food, this is the place to go. When I mentioned it to our server, she said management were aware of the problem, but the flies were hard to get rid of.

On Wednesday evening at 930 pm we entered as a family of 3 to be told abruptly we close at 10!! We sat down and looked through the menu and no one came to the table to take our order , not even a drink , we looked to see if we could grab someone’s attention , no one interested , not happy we walked out -thanks for nothing and poor customer service - we will not be using pizza express again that’s for sure

We didn't have a booking but on a friday afternoon and in a busy Pizza Express we managed to be squeezed in with no hassle! We were served from start to finish by Macy. Macy was super happy, smiley and helpful! She engaged well with all of us including my twin boys who can be big characters - she handled us all really well and nothing was too much trouble! Great customer service and attention to not just our table but others in the section she was serving. We had a really positive experience here today! Thank you

Not at all impressed and felt sorry we chose to lunch here. Met a long lost friend and decided to meet here for lunch but the experience left us hungry and disgusted. The place is unclean, the tables are placed anywhere and anyhow. The table for two just about accommodates a Pizza and there's hardly any room for glasses, drinks and plates. In fact, when the pizza arrived, we had to move around these items to let the pizza sit on the table. The not so friendly waitress thrust the plates in my hands and walked away. The coke I ordered was served at room temperature. ( I did say no ice but I expected it to be served chilled) . The Mixed Salad consisted of a few rocket and spinach leaves with just 3 small pieces of cucumber. The Pizza was served cold and was extremely stiff . It took some effort to knife it. There was absolutely no taste to the Pizza, it was bland, tasteless and very disappointing. No one returned to our table to ask if all was ok. Overall the restaurant lacks ambiance, courtesy, quality of service and quality of food. Hygiene and care is non existent. Seating is not efficient. Sad to see that the Pizza Express brand standards were so badly compromised.

Went to your Watford branch July 30th "The food here is absolutely delicious! Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection". Peter was super welcoming & the service was very good. Would definitely recommend the Watford chain.

We were very pleased with the service and our grandchildren always choose Pizza Express when we have them to stay.

Unfortunately we were sitting by the glass recycling bin so we heard a loud clank! Every few minutes -not very pleasant. Can this not be relocated away from the dining area? Very unpleasant. It was a very busy day but that doesn't excuse the timings - we had 2 kids meals and the food took forever! I didn't care about myself but our 2 kids were waiting far too long for their food. It was also a very hot day and we had to wait ages to get a server just to get some water on the table. Our food eventually arrived and quality was fine nothing bad to comment on it - just could have come a bit sooner, i was so hungry I could have eaten anything by the time the food came. Some servers were OK and some clearly need a change of career because every time we asked for anything we were met with a huff or eye rolling which made us feel like we were a nuisance. You try dining on a hot day with 2 kids who are fighting over colouring pencils and let me know what you think. Water in a small glass jug for 5 people needs to be topped up. Rant over.

I was absolutely disgusted with the way I was treated in Pizza Express this evening. Not only was my pasta under cooked and I politely asked for it to be replaced but to be rudely told to "go and sit down" twice by Barbara the manager when I was seeking assistance to pay my bill. I hadn't even said anything and I was rudely instructed to sit down. Is this what paying customers should expect at Pizza Express nowadays?

Service is atrocious…..warm beer served and i literally had to flag the waitress down to be told “someone else is looking after your table”’, clearly not. Worst PE I’ve had the displeasure of eating in, should have gone to the Stanmore location, where the service is impeccable! I know for next time…..

Sadly disappointed. The manager seemed agitated when we arrived and left us at table which was right by the bins so crashing bottles throughout. Very slow service, waited for at least 15 minutes before anyone asked about a drink. Food was lovely. However the white wine was warm! Had to ask for ice but was really not okay. Not planning to return. 😞

What a hovel. There is zero pride at this restaurant outside of a single employee—our server who was amazing (and the only reason this wasn’t 1 star overall). The food was standard pizza express fare, thus 4 stars. The bathroom was positively disgusting and needs work (see pictures). The rest of the space wasn’t much better. Food was, as stated, fine, however took more than 45 minutes to arrive during a Monday lunch where the restaurant wasn’t more than a third full. Overall, I’m surprised corporate or even the council hasn’t shut this place down for various reasons. I’d highly suggest going anywhere else in town.

Fantastic time here. Came here for some late lunch. Kids had fun. We bought a cake to cut for my daughters birthday. They discounted a dish we also eat there. And we asked if they can make it and the chef did

Best pizza express I’ve been too and all because of the staff, they were simply fantastic! Food was great, but generally always is at a pizza express so nothing unusual there. All staff were friendly & as I was sat next to the kitchen I could see how hard the chefs were working (not sure how they manage that intensity for a 9hr shift!) But particular mention must go to our waitress Georgiana she was super lovey, more than just taking our order she advised on what we might like, continually checked in to make sure we were ok & just generally gave the impression she really cared about our time whilst there. She is a credit to the company :)

Ordered pizza at 7.14pm, pick up was 7.31pm with Jus Eat, but it came only at 8.06pm. It was cold.

Restaurant building is a lovely style. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the pizzas are always lovely.

Took the family to Pizza Express in Watford after the kids pestered us to go. Unfortunately after waiting 10mins to be seated we left. Staff walked passed us several times, and the chefs could see us clearly waiting, whislt the front of the restaurant was half empty. Extremely disappointed at the lack of service.
