Pizza Express in Cardiff

We had a reservation. When we turned up half the restaurant was empty even though it was a Saturday. We were seated right in the middle of the restaurant in the way. We asked if we could sit at one of the many tables free to the side. Anyone would have thought I'd asked the staff member to donate a kidney! We then sat for over 15 minutes and without any staff member coming over to us or taking so much as a drink order. We left and went across the road to another venue. I'd hate to see how the service is when it's full. Avoid if possible!

Went in on a very busy Saturday night - day before the Wales v France match so full of excited French supporters. Erika the manager very kindly kept a table for me and Lucy took our orders - she was lovely and efficient. The pizzas were simply excellent, perfectly cooked and very tasty. A very successful meal thanks to the two ladies mentioned.

Absolutely favourite pizza express in Cardiff High street. Food was superb cooked by Head Chef-Marcin, who has worked there for so many years. Food was incredible and arrived quickly even restaurant was so busy. Our server Ivo was so friendly and made some great recommendations. Can't wait to come back soon!

Very friendly staff and prompt service. However, the small pizzas arrived barely warm with minimal topping on, which we’d paid extra for. The back of the restaurant was cold and people were sat at the tables with coats on.

Dough ball, Polla Astra Pizza, and dry white wine were all delicious, and the service was great.

Exceptional service ,food and friendliness

Food was great, I do wish the pizzas were bigger and thicker, but still very nice! Kids menu was great - all very similar to other Pizza Express. What I would say about this venue is the staff! I have no idea if they are one big family or all just get on so well! The manager is constantly present, and the staff are just the most amazing people! So attentive and friendly! Not so much with your food, but with you! Hard to describe really! My boy had is 11th birthday meal there, and they entire front staff sung to him! Manager included. They were literally the sweetest people I’d ever met, and so genuine! Trust me when I say you can tell! Definitely coming back - and very soon!

Booked as a group and were welcomed when we arrived. The waitress looking after us was very good. However the food is not great. It served a purpose and got everyone fed but we should have gone somewhere else.

Booked to eat after a rugby game at the Principality. Restaurant could not have been more helpful and accommodating (let me leave the buggy there whilst we went to the game). Food was delicious. Kids were happy and occupied. The service was quick and super friendly. Baby changing was clean and lovely with a mobile to keep baby entertained. Such a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Been here twice, first time had an excellent experience, the second time, the pizza was cold and there was hardly any cheese. Im not usually very picky as well, but I have to say I didn’t enjoy eating the pizza at all and to pay for it was a bit criminal. They also didn’t offer any salt and pepper or oils. Pretty sure I was being served by a manger as well. Also to mention, it was practically empty in the restaurant, I would be more understanding if they were swamped but that was not the case. I would then say this location is pretty hit or miss.

1st November 2023 as pizza hut now only take orders from your phone walked out so came here big mistake this pizza ham mushroom about 1 slice ham 2 mushroom £14.45 drink 3.30 ml sprite £3.55 please look at the bill I think pizza should of gone in the bin and walked out never to return

We had my daughters 7th birthday Pizza making party here and I have to say it was a great experience the staff were very attentive to the kids taught them about pizza and great fun making the pizzas , would highly recommend thankyou

Good food. My wife and I stopped in before touring Cardiff Castle. I had the dough balls. They were very good. My wife had a salad. It was big and she enjoyed it. Bonus: it's right across the street from the castle.

Cold dough balls and pizzas, complained and manager put his fist on pizza and took the plates away, no interaction, new pizzas arrived later. Male toilets urinals all taped up, just one cubicle available, toilet smelt musty and of stale urine.

We had a group reservation for 12 people and were asked to pre-order, which we did. On arrival we sat in the fairly pleasant restaurant which had a good Saturday buzz. Very quickly it was obvious the staff were fairly stretched with our server working hard to take and serve orders from many tables. One of the guests decided to add dough balls to their order when the server took drinks orders. About 15 mins later the balls arrived however no sign of the pre-ordered starters. Food arrived about 10 mins after. 90 minutes after sitting down our mains were served and it was clear both from watching the serving counter and what server told us that the restaurant had received many delivery orders which essentially took priority over those guests in the restaurant. Pizza Express - please consider your customers that come to your stores as important as those sat in their front room, consider having a second kitchen for deliveries or just cook based on order food received! I had a similar issue at the branch in Marlow. Food was good but let down by the very long waiting time. Unlikely to return because of this.

Came at the weekend after trying a few places and failing. Very glad I ended up there. Both the manager on shift and Ivo were brilliant!

Very disappointed I'm staff of pizza express myself and I will never refuse a costumer who asks to sit on the terase outside with the family, to have a nice dinner, we walk in around 20:45 we wanted to sit on the terase as we were with puppy and one of the staff members came and told us that he cannot serve us because the terase it's not open, no options offered either, very disappointed, i hope the Management it will do something about this ...

I've used this Pizza express several times and it's pretty consistent, The food and service is always what you'd expect, a good option for a retively quick meal, even on a match day!

Arrived at the time of booking ,the table we were down for was taken , so had to wait.. Not very organised. Both pasta dishes were served warm and The pizzas were crispy on edge and soggy in the middle, so collapsed when picked up ... Not a lot of flavour to any of it, just tasteless and a lot of money for what it was. Not good when you expect a good meal when visiting family in Cardiff , used my tesco vouchers, wish I hadn't bothered exchanging them

We had a pizza making party at Pizza Express & couldn’t recommend it more. Our host was so much fun it really added to our experience, Prosecco, nibbles & starters then making our own pizza with our choice of toppings. Thank you to team @Pizza Express making the TikTok was hilarious!

Used to come here a lot pre covid and the food was great! But the last two times I have come here have been extremely disappointing, the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. The pizza with the middle cut out with salad used to have a small hole filled with delicious pulses and greens and today the whole was almost bigger than the pizza its self! It was soggy and it only had rocket on, the starter was very flavourless. I wouldn’t come back again, but I will say the honeycomb cheese cake saved the meal and was delicious! (All be it was a small slice for almost £9!!)

I went to pizza express with my family (5 of us). We were sitting and deciding what to eat, it's an open kitchen and I could see the cook scratching his face, neck, coughing and playing on his phone. He was leaning on the counter and wasn't wearing his hat properly either. There was no hand washing at all. This made me feel uncomfortable and I didn't want to stay with my family to eat there so we left. I didn't want to let the waitress know as she shouldn't have to deal with that sort of complaint so I just left.

Another visit to this establishment with excellent food. The three of us had a pizza each with various starters all cooked to a high standard as usual. Since the weather was nice, we decided to sit outside on the busy High Street to eat. All the staff were very attentive including the assistant manager Giacomo. All in all, a great experience and will definitely recommend it to anyone looking to eat in Cardiff city centre

Great family meal. Lots of choices for a range of tastes, good choices for children's meals too. Ivo our server was friendly and attentive and he even spoke a little Welsh to us which was very much appreciated. Will be visiting again and very much recommend.

Had a really lovely lunch as always Pizza Express. It made it more special being served by Jakub and Ivo who could not have been more helpful. We will be back when next visiting Cardiff. More restaurants needs staff like them.

We were looking forward to this as it has been a long time since we had the chance to eat in a Pizza Express. They have stopped selling my favourite pizza a Venetziana. However I was happy to have a Fionrentina but there were no eggs! Would I like a substitute? Yes, artichokes, oops none. Got some capers instead. Service was slow as they were understaffed the guy was doing his best. Not the cleanest cutlery or glasses either. A shame, we used to eat in this chain once a week for years pre Covid.

absolutley loved it, had a table in the corner and you can watch the cooks as they make the pizza! the staff couldn't stop smiling and the atmosphere was amazing and so welcoming.The outside seating area is beautiful and perfect for a sunny day.The food was beyond amazing and the desert was to die for!!!!

Had a wonderful impromptu visit, didn’t have a booking but they were able to squeeze us in on a bank holiday. Food was lovely, wine was gorgeous and the service was quick and friendly Lucy was our standout for the entire experience, couldn’t have asked for a better server, she was so helpful with the menu, gave us recommendations and was always available whenever needed anything, a complete dream. Also, her powerpuff earrings were the moment. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon!

Fantastic friendly staff, especially with our 5 year old daughter. My husband and I took her for pizza and I was showing her how they make pizza…. Then the chef let her make her very own pizza and take it home! It was an absolute brilliant fun experience for her, and topped off her first ever train ride and trip to museum! Totally recommend this place for a kid friendly experience 😊

My girlfriend and I ate here yesterday. It was our first time at pizza express. Our server Stuart was absolutely amazing. He made us aware of the free dough balls should we sign up to the app and had an overall very friendly attitude. My partner had the lasagne and I had an American pizza. Everything was absolutely perfect, best pizza I’ve ever had. We’ll definitely come back here should we visit cardiff again. Stuart definitely needs some recognition too, credit to the company.

We came in on a whim to get out of the rain on a trip to the city - and we were truly impressed! The food was delicious and it came out very quick and piping hot. My boyfriend had a classic american pizza, which he loved, and I had the lasagne that was fabulous! We both shared the dough balls to start, and the lovely waiter, Stephen, advised us to download the app to get money off - he is a credit to this place and a prime example of brilliant hospitality. We will definitely be back next time we’re in the area :)

We often eat at Pizza Express when going to the theatre as they are quick and efficient. The man who greeted us at the door was really nice and very funny. He made us laugh before we had even sat down! The service was excellent, as was the food. I can highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely eat there again when we are next in Cardiff.

Went in for a evening meal, the vibes were immaculate the staff were lovely, logging wasn't too dark or too bright, the music was amazing and all the flavours and scents floating from the kitchen was making my stomach grumble. Will be returning with family again.

When we arrived here we were greeted in a friendly and polite manner. We hadn't booked but this wasn't a problem and were shown to a table and asked if this was OK(it was). Our waiter Ivo was so lovely he helped make our time in the restaurant a good one. Ivo was really friendly, polite and helpful and also attentive without being over the top. Myself, husband and daughter all had 3 courses and everything was lovely. I have to say all the staff we had contact with were lovely and on way out we were thanked and told to have a good rest of the evening. The last time we visited was 4 years ago and was 100% a better experience.

I visited Pizza Express, High Street Cardiff this afternoon with my cousin and her small 4 year old son. Everything was wonderful!! Waited close to 10 mins at host stand with nobody saying hold on a second or I’ll be there now just completely ignored. We then chose to grab a menu and sit down if they were so busy and had a extremely rude European manager in a blue shirt come over and ask if we had a reservation before walking off, despite there being many empty tables. After this extremely strange 15 mins we left without eating or drinking as nobody came to serve us I love pizza express and frequently eat here but will not be going to this store again!

Always lovely food in fairness. Not ever had a bad meal there. Had to send 2 glasses back due to poor washing (lipstick, etc). Otherwise, It would probably have been 5* all round. Service is always pleasant and fairly prompt. St Mary Srteet end could do with a bit more atmosphere. Would I go back?. Absolutely.

Called in for a quick pizza with the other half and little one. We were left standing waiting for a seat for about 5/10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us, but when they did we were sat quickly and before we knew it had drinks at our table. Order for food was taken shortly after, Girlfriend had a pasta that was overcooked in parts and me and the boy had pizza that well was nice but oddly not cut how you'd expect pizza to be cut?? It was lovely and the staff were all friendly and helpful, but there were 3 dirty glasses left on our table for the entire meal??? Spoilt the whole experience there really.

Great gluten free and vegan options! Most vegan pizzas are available on a gluten free base 🙂 gluten free dough balls are also available which makes me feel so happy, I missed being able to eat dough balls 🤓

What can I say about PizzaExpress in the high street? I am gluten free so I am very cautious about where I eat, however PizzaExpress is excellent for me and has so much choice. I’ve visited this restaurant almost on a weekly basis and they have not once got my order wrong. This restaurant is not just good for gluten free: the atmosphere is great and the food is very quick — I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than 10 minutes from ordering to eating. I would like to thank the whole team there. Although there is a lot of choice, I would particularly recommend the BBQ Burnt Ends pizza!
