Pizza Express in Cardiff

My partner and I had a lovely, cosy late afternoon dinner at Pizza Express on Cardiff High Street on 20/04/2025. From the moment we arrived, the experience was warm and welcoming. The host was very smiley and polite, and our waiter — an Italian lady, whose name was something like Laura or Lawra — was absolutely fantastic. She was incredibly attentive, professional, and had a calm, friendly manner. Her knowledge of the menu stood out as she explained the dishes with such detail and patience. It’s clear she’s a real asset to the team. She even complimented my girlfriend, which genuinely made her day — and, of course, mine too. The food was another highlight. Everything was clearly made from scratch, including the chicken goujons and the tomato sauce — which tasted fresh and rich. The pizza was flawless: perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and generously topped, the dessert being generous in portion and also incredibly delicious. Can’t recommend this place enough. Great service, delicious food, and a warm atmosphere. Five stars all round.

I ordered two drinks and pizza at a fixed price. Then I ordered another one of the same priceEven I didn't wanted drink for the third one because it wasn't necessary. Despite that, they added extra money to the last pizza I ordered even though everything was the same. I tried to explain it to the waitress, but she didn't know much English so I didn't want to argue and paid the money and left.

Family of 4 arrived at this restaurant at 8:40pm, hoping to dine in, a few tables were occupied, but plenty were free, waiter told us we could have take away only as they don't allow dining in after 9pm. Advertised closing was 10pm. Poor service and obvious lazy staff that couldn't be bothered to bring some food to a table. Went across the street to pizza pilgrim, busy place but given a table no problem, lovely food and good atmosphere would recommend 👌

Brilliant service from Ivo who was friendly and helpful and genuinely made us feel very welcome, including offering to take a group photo on seeing that we were trying to do a selfie.

The lady with the red tights and glasses was so unbelievably lovely. If I visit Cardiff again I will 100% be coming back

Visited here during a busy Saturday lunch period. The young lady that served us was an absolute pleasure. Unfortunately there was a problem with the ovens and one of our pizzas arrived very burnt around the edges and after having tried it, it was clear that it was too burnt to be eaten. We’d already received notification that there was a problem with the ovens and when we confirmed that it was inedible, our server and another lady that worked there couldn’t have been more helpful in arranging another pizza. Both pizzas we had were delicious and we’d definitely return. The atmosphere was really nice and relaxed in the restaurant as a customer, but it was clear the staff were under a lot of pressure with the oven situation and being fully booked. They were really professional though and handled everything really well.

3 hours after order the food was apparently attempted to be delivered. we had to go to bed before it arrived. An absolute joke and will be demanding a full refund and compo...we had to go to bed withoueating in the end.

Ordered on deliveroo. Several rides have gone to collect my order but nothing. The time keeps being pushed back. There's been an extra 50 mins added to the 30 min estimated wait time. Nobody answers the phone at the restaurant. I left a voicemail but no reply. It's a Wednesday! Absolutely horrific customer service. Have you forgotten you take deliveroo orders? Perhaps the rides who keep showing up at your door is a good reminder?

Food was cold by the time it arrived and slightly squashed. Would not order again.

Very nice evening, lovely food and great service - even in our native Polish! Will definitely be back and thanks to the whole staff for making it a great evening!

Me vine a almorzar hoy. El personal era complaciente en cuanto a dónde quería sentarme. Eran profesionales y amables y la comida era increíble. La gerente Erika vino a hablar con nosotros sobre la aplicación, pero terminamos charlando y es una defensora masiva de Pizza Express que habló tan apasionadamente sobre la comida, su personal y la empresa. Pizza Express tiene la suerte de tener un empleado tan leal. Nuestro servidor todavía estaba en entrenamiento, pero no es que usted sepa que ella era profesional y conocedor y gracias Morgan por cuidar de nosotros estamos seguros de que usted será un gran activo para Pizza Express en Monmouth.

Muy decepcionante ir a Pizzaexpress y ser rechazado porque no habíamos reservado. El restaurante estaba vacío y podíamos reservar una mesa de pie fuera, pero se negó porque el personal era muy desagradable.

Was served by multiple waiters, Stuart who was very pleasant, made us feel very comfortable (up the palace) the music was great and the food was delicious and delivered at a perfect time, great experience, would recommend if you want high quality pizza and tasty cocktails

Another Pizza Express spot that did not disappoint! Absolutely lovely staff on a busy Friday evening got me and my friend a nice table for some food and drinks. They do some great offers and had some free dough balls and halloumi bites from their app rewards. Pizzas did not disappoint either. We each had a drink as well which was quite tasty!

Food has no taste , pizza undercooked, cheep ingredients, poor quality for the price . Food arrived quickly but, service was ok but no one bother to ask if you need anything or if food was ok .

Ella creó un ambiente muy divertido para los niños (9-10 años) mientras hacían sus pizzas y se aseguró de que tuvieran suficiente comida y bebida durante la tarde. Les encantó la "pizza hechos" y los juegos también y fue agradable tener nuestra propia zona del restaurante. Definitivamente recomendaría una fiesta de Pizza Express y por favor transmita mi agradecimiento a Lucy y al equipo de High Street por hacer del cumpleaños de mi hija uno especial.

Went there to celebrate an anniversary, and the food and atmosphere were brill. The service was quite good for the meal itself, but for some reason, it took half an hour for us to get our bill. I could understand if it was busy, but there were three other tables of four people or fewer, one of which was seated whilst we were waiting for the bill. Even after I got the hostess's attention, we still had to wait 10-15 minutes for it to be brought to us. I wouldn't go as far as to say it ruined our night, but it was frustrating, and put something of a dampener on what was otherwise a great experience.

Great Pizza Express branch - feel it’s one of few that has maintained a high standard in the Pizzas over the years.

Great eatery if you have kids. Menu selection is good and staff are always polite and helpful.

I haven’t been to Pizza Express for probably 10 years. Wow, how things have changed…. My memory was of pizzas with ample toppings and a decent base - a meal in itself. I ordered an ‘American’ and was looking forward to it. When it came it was a struggle to find the cheese, with what could only be described as a “dusting”. The pepperoni was the small type which whilst tasted nice, was just too small. As for the thickness of the base, it took ‘thin and crispy’ to a whole new level. Basically I could have inhaled it if I’d tried hard enough. At nearly £60 for two pizzas, a kids set meal and a few soft drinks I felt like I’d been robbed.

A donde quiera que fuimos estaba tan ocupado, así que nos conformamos con este Pizza Express. nos advirtieron que había una espera de 30 minutos para tomar nuestro pedido, pero conseguimos una mesa inmediatamente y porque nuestros pies estaban matando decidimos que la espera estaría bien! El lugar parecía muy corto de personal - había una camarera italiana (creo) que estaba zumbando alrededor , llevando un montón de platos a la vez, equilibrándolos en las muñecas y siendo bastante dramática en todo lo que hacía - pero aparte de ella no vimos mucho personal. El restaurante era muy caliente también, a pesar de que era bastante fresco fuera. Estábamos sentados en una mesa circular que se sentía un poco en el camino de todos y todo. Seguí teniendo que mover mi silla para que alguien pudiera pasar y me preocupaba más de una vez que el balanceador de platos me golpeara la cabeza con un plato! Nos sirvieron bebidas en unos quince minutos y nuestra orden fue tomada inmediatamente después, pero la espera para la comida era mucho más de una hora. Teníamos algunos entrantes y pizza. Todo estaba caliente, muy sabroso y bien presentado. Muy agradable y vale la pena el dinero. No hay quejas y disfruté bastante de nuestra visita.

Standard of food is shocking. Pizza is cold and dry. Wedges undercooked and cold. Potentially the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten

Great way to celebrate son's 21st with a load of his Uni friends. Staff really good...food spot on too...

Food was good but they ran out of salad for the starters we had to select a different option. Only issue was we were over changed for the meal, we had the special menu and they changed alacart.

Situated at the castle end of the High st there is a bit of a view of the castle wall from the window seats at the front of the restaurant. Staff are very friendly and at least 2 of the staff at the time were Italian which adds to the atmosphere. The few times we visited we were able just to walk off the street and get a table. The food is nice and if you download the app you can pay at the table and earn 'pizza slices' which will eventually give you bronze, silver and gold rewards which mean you can take advantage of a few freebies

On a recent trip to Cardiff my wife and I ate at the PizzaExpress on High Street. The food was great and the service was even better. The manager Jakub was very friendly and recommended several things to do in and around Cardiff. We would highly recommend this restaurant to all travelers.

It's good food and staff are more supportive, thay suggest me dish and which food is good for us. I really enjoy my dinner there. I recommended to you for veg pizza.

We visited on a Friday lunch time with our two year old daughter. Excepting the fact that the food was great as always, the service from Lucy and her colleague was exceptional, making our daughter feel really important and just simply being great. We hope we're served by her again next time we visit.

Visited on a Sunday and it was reasonably quiet. The pizza was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't bother with the garlic bread though.

We booked a pizza making party for a work event and had a great time! It was so fun, all the staff were really friendly and fun. We all loved it and will be back

Food is nice enough. Sat in the front window but it felt a bit run down, the rear of the restaurant was much nicer and had more of an atmosphere.

Booked a table for 6 this evening. The restaurant was busy so glad we booked but food was good and service was fantastic! Our waitress ( I believe her name was Amelka) went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible! Will definitely be returning

Great service and atmosphere but not at all value for money - bought a mozzarella ‘garlic’ bread for £7 and was disappointed with the size and lack of flavour Friend’s pizza did look and taste good though

A nice ambiance with dull lighting comfortable spacing. Good pizzas and pastas and drinks. Most of all, very good friendly and professional service from all the staff we encountered but especially Ivo. It’s so nice to have service from someone who cares about your dining experience.

Possibly the worst pizza I’ve eaten in years. A Classic Sloppy Giuseppe, its base was so thin it was translucent and, amazingly for something so thin, was undercooked. It was actually difficult to eat as the topping, which was fine, was too heavy for the base and just fell onto the plate. I’ve seen flatbread around supermarket wraps that were thicker than this base. And because it was undercooked it was doughy. Not a good experience. The waitress was friendly, and later apologetic, but good staff don’t make up for bad food. I’ll be avoiding in future.

I came to this restaurant on Saturday at around 6:30, the server with a low brown ponytail was excellent, was seated and took my order rather quickly considering the restaurant was quite busy, such a polite girl and made sure we were happy with everything. Looking forward to coming back again x

Came to Pizza Express high street for a quick date night meal, we were served by Ivo and Stuart, service was carried out promptly and with a smile! Food came super quickly and was delicious will definitely be visiting again. Thank you both for a great night!

Visited with my daughter and granddaughter for a quick bite before a show. All I can say is, it must have been our servers first day in a job that involves technology and working with people. She asked us what we wanted. I said the first 2 things and she stopped me, as she slowly added ‘dough balls’ (is this just a tick on the reader or does she have to manually type in the whole word?) that took a while then she said ok, next, and we spent some time saying what we wanted, and waited as she added one item, slowly, at a time. To clarify because we were pushed for time we were only ordering, a child’s meal, 1 pizza and polenta fries. That took forever for her to add. I don’t know what happens on this machine but when we then asked if we can add jalapeños to the pizza she sighed and said wait a minute, and wait we did. Food came out and was very nice, I’ve never been to pizza express and enjoyed the taste of the pizza. Time to leave, asked for the bill, bill came and the ‘free child meal’ (summer deal at the restaurant) was on the bill so I asked if we weren’t eligible for some reason? She said oh I didn’t offer it in case you had a voucher of some sort?? I’ve no idea what that means. There’s a big sign outside, free child meal until September 2nd (this is with a paying adult) she left and amended the bill. We realised after leaving she hadn’t offered or brought my granddaughter’s dessert (an ice lolly) but we had also forgotten to ask in our haste to leave. I would return as the food was nice but that visit was hard work!!

I'm sure the food is great as it usually is at pizza express put the service is terrible. We were refused service outside by a manager because they can't be bothered to bring food out on a perfectly nice day (we couldn't sit in as we had dogs). I'd suggest if you're considering eating here switch it up and go to 'Pizza Pilgrims' just on the opposite side of the street; same location, great food, great service and staff that can manage walking an extra yard or 2.

I went to this pizzaexpress about 7pm. It's very slow to serve pizza probably because of delivery such as deliveroo. After 45 mins, I've got a fiorentina pizza without an egg on it.

Placed an order for collection, which included mainly gluten free items. One item included in the order was not gluten free, so the restaurant (specifically Ivo) contacted me by phone to check I was aware of this because he had noticed my order was mainly gluten free. I cannot thank Ivo enough for doing this, and when I arrived at the restaurant to collect my order, Ivo explained the lengths he had gone to to check this before calling me. Thank you Ivo, it really does make a difference for people who require these dietary options for medical reasons to feel like it is being taken seriously and checked. Also helps that the food was great as well! Will definitely go here again the next time we are in Cardiff!

Called in early evening Saturday 10/8.Group of four. Enjoyed dough balls with various dips...Scrumptious... The Americsn hot pizza was delicious.The other guests had equally enjoyable meals..Great location..Good service.. Recommended

Good pizzas, nice waitress but the express side wasn't there... even though the restaurant wasn't full, a little disappointed! Table games for children provided and adapted menus

My friends and I visited this establishment for a nice lunch out. As a fellow pizza express employee I expected the service and food to be similar to the restaurant I work at. Once seated at out table we found a hard piece of gum stuck to the table, lipstick stains on our water glasses and stains on the “clean cutlery and napkin” we asked for clean glasses and for water from the manager he pointed to our dirty ones and eventually got us clean ones. Food came out on time and tasted delicious until I was about half way through my pizza and found what looked to be like a bug of some sort. Disgusting. As we had no check in from the waitress I was unable to complain to her and she took our plates away before I had a chance to show her. All around a nice place but attentiveness was not its best.

Been here twice. The food was what I craved for so I enjoyed it very much.

Great service, one of the best teams I have seen, staff were always smiling, happy, professional, the some parts of the place appear like it needs an update due to wear and tear.

We came the evening on the 28.06.24. We had been looking forward to it as the one in Swansea shut down, and we loved it. It's been a few years since we went, but remember it being of a high standard. We walked through the door, and it was clear they were terribly understaffed, 4 tables were empty but not cleared, a server said she would be with us in one minute and rushed passed. Another lady came to see to us and told us she could not seat us for 15 minutes......We couldn't go to the bar or even get a drink on one of the many empty tables that we know are in the back. We would need to leave and go back........This was early evening......It was hectic and not particularly friendly. We decided we didn't want to ear in that atmosphere. We won't be back.

Food was excellent however we waited a very long time. It was far from a express pizza. We arrived at 12 when it was quiet, however our pizza arrived at 12.55 when it was very busy. Very disappointed with the long wait. My granddaughter couldn't have the dessert as part of the childrens meal as we had to go and catch our train .

Food and service by Ivo and staff was the best

I ordered pizza and dough balls for myself to collect as I’m currently working in the city, when I walked in I was greeted by the lovelies gentleman he was very enthusiastic and chatty and made me feel so welcome. He asked if he said my name right and he did and had the happiest smile on his face when I said yes! Next time I will eat in even if I’m on my own if this is this is service as I was made to feel so comfortable. Unfortunately I didn’t get the gentleman’s name who got my order for me but it was at 8:40pm on 15/5/24 if you find out who it was please pass on my thanks.. his happiness made me happy!

The pizza hadn't been kept flat so it was squashed with toppings smeared against the box.

Had a fantastic meal, staff were excellent and welcoming. The manager reckoned I'd be ringing him up for desert but luckily he'd done too good a job with the starter and main course. Great location and loads of good seats to watch the Cardiff world go by.

The customer service was terrific! The front-of-the-house staff had a contagious energy, and the food was served without much waiting, even though the place was busy. Their passion fruit still lemonade is a must-try refreshing drink!

Prawn Pizza had 5 prawns and was cold. It was missing the extra mushrooms requested and paid for. Padana pizza was cold. Pesto dough balls were not hot. They were tepid. There were only 4 arancini. They were also tepid

The service was good the food and the options of this chain are getting worse every time I visit.
