Pizza Express in Cardiff

Went there to celebrate an anniversary, and the food and atmosphere were brill. The service was quite good for the meal itself, but for some reason, it took half an hour for us to get our bill. I could understand if it was busy, but there were three other tables of four people or fewer, one of which was seated whilst we were waiting for the bill. Even after I got the hostess's attention, we still had to wait 10-15 minutes for it to be brought to us. I wouldn't go as far as to say it ruined our night, but it was frustrating, and put something of a dampener on what was otherwise a great experience.

Great Pizza Express branch - feel it’s one of few that has maintained a high standard in the Pizzas over the years.

Great eatery if you have kids. Menu selection is good and staff are always polite and helpful.

Every time I've been (which is a fair amount of times) Lucy has been lovely! Top notch service, a credit to the team! her infectious enthusiasm is amazing to witness! she deserves recognition for her customer service! 🙏🎉

Great way to celebrate son's 21st with a load of his Uni friends. Staff really good...food spot on too...

Food was good but they ran out of salad for the starters we had to select a different option. Only issue was we were over changed for the meal, we had the special menu and they changed alacart.

Situated at the castle end of the High st there is a bit of a view of the castle wall from the window seats at the front of the restaurant. Staff are very friendly and at least 2 of the staff at the time were Italian which adds to the atmosphere. The few times we visited we were able just to walk off the street and get a table. The food is nice and if you download the app you can pay at the table and earn 'pizza slices' which will eventually give you bronze, silver and gold rewards which mean you can take advantage of a few freebies

Absolutely delicious pizza! So fresh, hot and crispy and the flavour was outstanding 🤤 Staff were so friendly as well which is always a bonus:) definitely be back for more ☺️

Very small portion size compared to the price! Did speak to manager regarding this, also very very bland! No taste at all!

On a recent trip to Cardiff my wife and I ate at the PizzaExpress on High Street. The food was great and the service was even better. The manager Jakub was very friendly and recommended several things to do in and around Cardiff. We would highly recommend this restaurant to all travelers.

It's good food and staff are more supportive, thay suggest me dish and which food is good for us. I really enjoy my dinner there. I recommended to you for veg pizza.

We visited on a Friday lunch time with our two year old daughter. Excepting the fact that the food was great as always, the service from Lucy and her colleague was exceptional, making our daughter feel really important and just simply being great. We hope we're served by her again next time we visit.

Visited on a Sunday and it was reasonably quiet. The pizza was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't bother with the garlic bread though.

We booked a pizza making party for a work event and had a great time! It was so fun, all the staff were really friendly and fun. We all loved it and will be back

Food is nice enough. Sat in the front window but it felt a bit run down, the rear of the restaurant was much nicer and had more of an atmosphere.

Visited earlier today with kids! We were served by Amelka, the service we received was quick and efficient. She was very polite. Food came hot and went down a treat.

Great service and atmosphere but not at all value for money - bought a mozzarella ‘garlic’ bread for £7 and was disappointed with the size and lack of flavour Friend’s pizza did look and taste good though

A nice ambiance with dull lighting comfortable spacing. Good pizzas and pastas and drinks. Most of all, very good friendly and professional service from all the staff we encountered but especially Ivo. It’s so nice to have service from someone who cares about your dining experience.

Possibly the worst pizza I’ve eaten in years. A Classic Sloppy Giuseppe, its base was so thin it was translucent and, amazingly for something so thin, was undercooked. It was actually difficult to eat as the topping, which was fine, was too heavy for the base and just fell onto the plate. I’ve seen flatbread around supermarket wraps that were thicker than this base. And because it was undercooked it was doughy. Not a good experience. The waitress was friendly, and later apologetic, but good staff don’t make up for bad food. I’ll be avoiding in future.

I came to this restaurant on Saturday at around 6:30, the server with a low brown ponytail was excellent, was seated and took my order rather quickly considering the restaurant was quite busy, such a polite girl and made sure we were happy with everything. Looking forward to coming back again x

Came to Pizza Express high street for a quick date night meal, we were served by Ivo and Stuart, service was carried out promptly and with a smile! Food came super quickly and was delicious will definitely be visiting again. Thank you both for a great night!

Visited with my daughter and granddaughter for a quick bite before a show. All I can say is, it must have been our servers first day in a job that involves technology and working with people. She asked us what we wanted. I said the first 2 things and she stopped me, as she slowly added ‘dough balls’ (is this just a tick on the reader or does she have to manually type in the whole word?) that took a while then she said ok, next, and we spent some time saying what we wanted, and waited as she added one item, slowly, at a time. To clarify because we were pushed for time we were only ordering, a child’s meal, 1 pizza and polenta fries. That took forever for her to add. I don’t know what happens on this machine but when we then asked if we can add jalapeños to the pizza she sighed and said wait a minute, and wait we did. Food came out and was very nice, I’ve never been to pizza express and enjoyed the taste of the pizza. Time to leave, asked for the bill, bill came and the ‘free child meal’ (summer deal at the restaurant) was on the bill so I asked if we weren’t eligible for some reason? She said oh I didn’t offer it in case you had a voucher of some sort?? I’ve no idea what that means. There’s a big sign outside, free child meal until September 2nd (this is with a paying adult) she left and amended the bill. We realised after leaving she hadn’t offered or brought my granddaughter’s dessert (an ice lolly) but we had also forgotten to ask in our haste to leave. I would return as the food was nice but that visit was hard work!!

I'm sure the food is great as it usually is at pizza express put the service is terrible. We were refused service outside by a manager because they can't be bothered to bring food out on a perfectly nice day (we couldn't sit in as we had dogs). I'd suggest if you're considering eating here switch it up and go to 'Pizza Pilgrims' just on the opposite side of the street; same location, great food, great service and staff that can manage walking an extra yard or 2.

Staff here are so warm and friendly, we’ve had good experiences with all the staff here and manager too. Really made us feel welcome.

I went to this pizzaexpress about 7pm. It's very slow to serve pizza probably because of delivery such as deliveroo. After 45 mins, I've got a fiorentina pizza without an egg on it.

Placed an order for collection, which included mainly gluten free items. One item included in the order was not gluten free, so the restaurant (specifically Ivo) contacted me by phone to check I was aware of this because he had noticed my order was mainly gluten free. I cannot thank Ivo enough for doing this, and when I arrived at the restaurant to collect my order, Ivo explained the lengths he had gone to to check this before calling me. Thank you Ivo, it really does make a difference for people who require these dietary options for medical reasons to feel like it is being taken seriously and checked. Also helps that the food was great as well! Will definitely go here again the next time we are in Cardiff!

Pizza was nice and moderate price we can say some independent pizza houses sell more expensive, I can easily say that far better than domino's hard dough and par with pizza hut or even a but better

Called in early evening Saturday 10/8.Group of four. Enjoyed dough balls with various dips...Scrumptious... The Americsn hot pizza was delicious.The other guests had equally enjoyable meals..Great location..Good service.. Recommended

Good pizzas, nice waitress but the express side wasn't there... even though the restaurant wasn't full, a little disappointed! Table games for children provided and adapted menus

My friends and I visited this establishment for a nice lunch out. As a fellow pizza express employee I expected the service and food to be similar to the restaurant I work at. Once seated at out table we found a hard piece of gum stuck to the table, lipstick stains on our water glasses and stains on the “clean cutlery and napkin” we asked for clean glasses and for water from the manager he pointed to our dirty ones and eventually got us clean ones. Food came out on time and tasted delicious until I was about half way through my pizza and found what looked to be like a bug of some sort. Disgusting. As we had no check in from the waitress I was unable to complain to her and she took our plates away before I had a chance to show her. All around a nice place but attentiveness was not its best.

Been here twice. The food was what I craved for so I enjoyed it very much.

Great service, one of the best teams I have seen, staff were always smiling, happy, professional, the some parts of the place appear like it needs an update due to wear and tear.

We came the evening on the 28.06.24. We had been looking forward to it as the one in Swansea shut down, and we loved it. It's been a few years since we went, but remember it being of a high standard. We walked through the door, and it was clear they were terribly understaffed, 4 tables were empty but not cleared, a server said she would be with us in one minute and rushed passed. Another lady came to see to us and told us she could not seat us for 15 minutes......We couldn't go to the bar or even get a drink on one of the many empty tables that we know are in the back. We would need to leave and go back........This was early evening......It was hectic and not particularly friendly. We decided we didn't want to ear in that atmosphere. We won't be back.

Food was excellent however we waited a very long time. It was far from a express pizza. We arrived at 12 when it was quiet, however our pizza arrived at 12.55 when it was very busy. Very disappointed with the long wait. My granddaughter couldn't have the dessert as part of the childrens meal as we had to go and catch our train .

Food and service by Ivo and staff was the best

The pizza hadn't been kept flat so it was squashed with toppings smeared against the box.

I ordered pizza and dough balls for myself to collect as I’m currently working in the city, when I walked in I was greeted by the lovelies gentleman he was very enthusiastic and chatty and made me feel so welcome. He asked if he said my name right and he did and had the happiest smile on his face when I said yes! Next time I will eat in even if I’m on my own if this is this is service as I was made to feel so comfortable. Unfortunately I didn’t get the gentleman’s name who got my order for me but it was at 8:40pm on 15/5/24 if you find out who it was please pass on my thanks.. his happiness made me happy!

Had a fantastic meal, staff were excellent and welcoming. The manager reckoned I'd be ringing him up for desert but luckily he'd done too good a job with the starter and main course. Great location and loads of good seats to watch the Cardiff world go by.

The customer service was terrific! The front-of-the-house staff had a contagious energy, and the food was served without much waiting, even though the place was busy. Their passion fruit still lemonade is a must-try refreshing drink!

Prawn Pizza had 5 prawns and was cold. It was missing the extra mushrooms requested and paid for. Padana pizza was cold. Pesto dough balls were not hot. They were tepid. There were only 4 arancini. They were also tepid

The service was good the food and the options of this chain are getting worse every time I visit.

We had a reservation. When we turned up half the restaurant was empty even though it was a Saturday. We were seated right in the middle of the restaurant in the way. We asked if we could sit at one of the many tables free to the side. Anyone would have thought I'd asked the staff member to donate a kidney! We then sat for over 15 minutes and without any staff member coming over to us or taking so much as a drink order. We left and went across the road to another venue. I'd hate to see how the service is when it's full. Avoid if possible!

Very good atmosphere in this Italian restaurant, price, service, ok

Went in on a very busy Saturday night - day before the Wales v France match so full of excited French supporters. Erika the manager very kindly kept a table for me and Lucy took our orders - she was lovely and efficient. The pizzas were simply excellent, perfectly cooked and very tasty. A very successful meal thanks to the two ladies mentioned.

Ivo is the best man for the job , food was great but his service made the meal ! Couldn't fault his enthusiasm, quickness and initiative. Expect great things from this pizza express !

Pizza Express hosted the 9th birthday party of our granddaughter yesterday, and we were so impressed with the effort made to ensure 15 young people had a memorable afternoon. Staff were so helpful, and the children thoroughly enjoyed creating their own special pizza that they then got to eat. We all learned something from the information shared regarding the history of pizza making and also the origins of the ingredients. The children were still talking about the experience at school today! Thank you so much.

We booked a kids pizza party at Cardiff High Street. The kids and parents were thrilled with the party and would 100% recommend. Giacomo was an attentive host and really went above and beyond to make sure we all enjoyed. Fantastic kids party which my daughter loved.

We went in for my nephew's birthday. The food was great but what was even better was the staff. Really lovely and friendly. Think the pizza is one of the best in Cardiff too. Will recommend.

Not too keen on the meals we ordered. No chilli in the chilli prawns. Tasteless polenta chips. Small lasagne portion.

Service is 5*, myself and my partner had the privilege of being waited on by Ivo on our valentines meal, so very friendly, attentive and a fantastic tribute to your serving team! (He deserves a bonus!!). He went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we wanted and needed and even cracked some jokes along the way. This is now our favoruite store out of all 3 in Cardiff (it looks and feels the best too!) and we will definitely be returning!

Absolutely favourite pizza express in Cardiff High street. Food was superb cooked by Head Chef-Marcin, who has worked there for so many years. Food was incredible and arrived quickly even restaurant was so busy. Our server Ivo was so friendly and made some great recommendations. Can't wait to come back soon!

Very friendly staff and prompt service. However, the small pizzas arrived barely warm with minimal topping on, which we’d paid extra for. The back of the restaurant was cold and people were sat at the tables with coats on.

Great. From the service/monitoring to the (good) suggestions and of course, the magnificent pizzas. The wine list is also very good.

Food was great, I do wish the pizzas were bigger and thicker, but still very nice! Kids menu was great - all very similar to other Pizza Express. What I would say about this venue is the staff! I have no idea if they are one big family or all just get on so well! The manager is constantly present, and the staff are just the most amazing people! So attentive and friendly! Not so much with your food, but with you! Hard to describe really! My boy had is 11th birthday meal there, and they entire front staff sung to him! Manager included. They were literally the sweetest people I’d ever met, and so genuine! Trust me when I say you can tell! Definitely coming back - and very soon!

Exceptional service ,food and friendliness

Booked as a group and were welcomed when we arrived. The waitress looking after us was very good. However the food is not great. It served a purpose and got everyone fed but we should have gone somewhere else.

Booked to eat after a rugby game at the Principality. Restaurant could not have been more helpful and accommodating (let me leave the buggy there whilst we went to the game). Food was delicious. Kids were happy and occupied. The service was quick and super friendly. Baby changing was clean and lovely with a mobile to keep baby entertained. Such a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Been here twice, first time had an excellent experience, the second time, the pizza was cold and there was hardly any cheese. Im not usually very picky as well, but I have to say I didn’t enjoy eating the pizza at all and to pay for it was a bit criminal. They also didn’t offer any salt and pepper or oils. Pretty sure I was being served by a manger as well. Also to mention, it was practically empty in the restaurant, I would be more understanding if they were swamped but that was not the case. I would then say this location is pretty hit or miss.

1st November 2023 as pizza hut now only take orders from your phone walked out so came here big mistake this pizza ham mushroom about 1 slice ham 2 mushroom £14.45 drink 3.30 ml sprite £3.55 please look at the bill I think pizza should of gone in the bin and walked out never to return

Food was okay but the service was appalling.

The staff were so lovely! I brought my two children here over the weekend and we had such a great time. The food was great made by some of the nicest staff i’ve ever met with such a warm welcome. Would 10/10 recommend to the other mums at school
