Pizza Express in Cardiff

Cold uncooked pizza. 😱 Wrong drink - a can of pop served warm After drawing thier attention to this abysmal fare they offered a refund - of less than half I paid?!? Pizza Express now trades of past glories - don’t bother.

Very busy. My first visit to Pizza Express. We ordered a sloppy joe pizza in the family bundle. Have to say it was extremely dry and both pizzas flavourless. The dough balls to dunk were delicious. Drinks were a bit slow. Not sure I would rush back. The duty manager was dashing around being vocal of they had over 200 covers whilst we were there and a weather warning for the next day, and they'd be ok. Very disappointing

We came for an early lunch with our 3 year old and Heather was so friendly and kind to him. Food came fast and was delicious!

I had a wonderful experience this evening at Pizza Express in the Bay - both our server Heather and the manager (I didn’t catch his name, I think he was Italian?) went above and beyond with their customer service! Special shout out to Heather, though. She was kind, witty and really great with my 2 year old. Will definitely be returning, thank you! :)

Had a great experience today at Pizza Express. Very busy and the staff handled it like heroes. I was served by Heather and she was conscientious, attentive and warm with our table. Would recommend!

We booked a large table for my Dad's 60th birthday - thank you to all the server and restaurant team for accommodating us. Also a special shout out to Anh, who successfully managed all our fussy children and adults as well as manager Steve for managing the booking and all of the minor alterations before we arrived.

Been here a couple times for special occasions, mainly birthdays and we always keep coming back. I want to give a special thanks to Anh for helping out our family as it's sometimes a bit problematic dealing with a large group. Great service, Super Helpful when ordering and managing people within your group, would come back

Heather, our server was very welcoming and friendly. Her patience with taking our order was brilliant. The atmosphere was great and a lovely vibe. Unfortunately, we didn't get chance to eat our food. We came here on a whim after a busy few hours of taking our children to soft play. Now I totally understand that certain restaurants are more tolerable than others of children having fun and making noise. Our children are 1 and a half, and 2 and a half years old. We came here thinking that it was a family friendly place to eat and bring our children. How wrong were we. Heather came over to our table and requested that our youngest kept the noise down. She also made it very obvious that her tolerance to children having fun was very low. She rudely took the food menu from the youngest as well. I'd understand such poor service if our kids were destroying the place and causing mayhem. But I can assure you that they weren't. I'm very sorry to Heather for not being the type of parents to sit our children down with an iPad in front of them to 'shut them up'. There was no way that we could sit down and enjoy our food after someone showing blatant disrespect towards our children for simply being children.

Me and a few family members visited your branch today, there were 4 adults and 2 children (1 and 2 years old).We were given our menus which had previously been used by another child as my daughter's had already been filled in, which is a hygiene issue considering what children get up to.Our server heather took all of our orders and snatched the menu from my 1 year old nieces hands which we thought was slightly rude but ignored the fact and continued waiting for our order. The children made minimum noise considering their age and the fact we do not use an iPad to entertain them.Heather then confronted my sister in law and asked that she keep her child down as she screamed out of excitement which is completely normal for a 1 year old. If your staff do not want to work in a family friendly restaurant maybe they should not rather than asking a 1 year old to keep her noise down. When I confronted Heather she told us that this is what she has been told to do. We left in disgust and feeling insulted. On the way out I confronted the manager and at this time Heather mentioned to me she was never told to ask the children to be quiet but the manager did not even respond it appears that Heather seems to have more authority than her manager? The 6 of us will never return to your restaurant chain as we now understand Pizza Express is not child friendly.

I would give zero stars if I could. What was advertised as a "family-friendly" restaurant turned out to be anything but that. I am appalled by the treatment my family and I received during our visit today. I visited with my husband, our 1.5-year-old daughter, my 2.5-year-old niece, and my sister and brother-in-law. Initially, our waitress, Heather, seemed friendly and welcoming, but things quickly took a turn for the worse. While we were placing a large order, Heather decided to take the menu out of my toddler's hands, despite the fact that she was simply playing with it. I didn’t say anything at the time, but then Heather proceeded take everyone else orders before removing the other menus from the table. As we waited for our food, my 1.5-year-old daughter, as toddlers do, was vocal and occasionally made some noise while playing with her cousin. Both my husband and I kept her in check and told her to quiet down when necessary. She was sitting in her high chair, not running around or causing any disturbance, and there was no reason for anyone to be upset. However, Heather passed by our table, eye-rolled my daughter, and then, without any warning or context, returned to tell me to "keep my toddler quiet." I was shocked and asked if a customer had complained or if her manager had instructed her to do so, to which she simply smirked and said, "No, I just did." There was no justification for this response. We were seated at the back of the restaurant, away from other diners, and the children’s behavior was completely manageable. The lack of understanding or empathy toward young families was astonishing. This experience left me feeling embarrassed, frustrated, and deeply disappointed. I can only imagine how families with children who have additional needs (ALN) might feel in a similar situation. We chose to leave the restaurant in anger, and we will not be returning. I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone, especially families looking for a welcoming atmosphere. If you truly market yourself as a family-friendly restaurant, you need to reassess how you treat families with young children. This experience was completely unacceptable Definitely would NOT recommend!

This afternoon, My wife and I, my Sister and my brother in law took our children out for the day to soft play and decided to take them to pizza express afterwards for a bite to eat. When we arrived the manager did accommodate us 4 adults and two children under the age of 2 which we were happy with because the restaurant looked quite busy. Our waitress Heather initially was very friendly and welcoming, unfortunately this is where the good finishes. After about 10 minutes both of our children were just playing and made a bit of noise nothing to major just kids being kids, my wife and I both talked to our daughter but at the end of the day she is a 1 year old child, so she doesn’t understand. I digress, Heather then decides to tell my wife to tell my daughter to “keep the noise down please” this was off her own back not being told by manager. After this request all of decided enough was enough my wife and I were appalled and embarrassed. You advertise this is a family run chain franchise and say it’s family friendly unfortunately this restaurant is everything other than that too focused on image more than hospitality. Honestly my family and I are disgusted by the Cardiff Bay Pizza express we will not be visiting this or any other pizza express again. Absolutely appalling service should be ashamed.

Anh deserves a raise! Everytime we go to the restaurant we get the most incredible and consistent service and it’s great to see that Anh gets so much recognition in these reviews!

Went here before going to Winter Wonderland. Service was quick and friendly. Food was hot and no complaints. Some may find it a bit expensive.

Doing the 'Santa' presents delivery run to see family pre-xmas it was a welcome stop to eat here. We hadn't reserved a table, I would guess at peak periods that might be advisable. Seated quickly, we had an attentive waitress who paid wonderful attention to the young people as much as looking after the adults. Great experience. Highly recommended and the food was excellent too by the way 🙂.

Dined in at this restaurant for lunch today, not only was the food excellent and served in good time, but the service was amazing too! Anh, who served us, was a lovely, accommodating host. I would highly recommend!

Food was fine. The service was appalling. Waited a long time for food to arrive and dishes arrived at different times. Further, children’s food was piping hot.

My son has severe peanut, nut and egg allergies and from the moment we arrived we were treated so kindly, Anh talked through every step when ordering so my son felt at ease and that we were taken seriously. So many businesses could learn from Pizza Express and how important it is to be allergy aware. It’s now become a regular visit for us because we know pizza express is our ‘safe food’ - I cannot thank you all enough, my anxiety appreciates you a lot!

Perfect start to our evening, we booked this restaurant before we headed for the show at the Wales millennium stadium. We pre-booked and our table and was ready on time, the venue was decorated lovely pre-Christmas, very festive. Anh looked after us, and was amazing. The food was great, and we tried the pizzas, pasta and most of the sides, the children’s menu was suitable for my son, he loved the pudding, which he changed last minute but Anh sorted this for us and explained to him about Gelato and the bambinoccino and he could have both, he thoroughly enjoyed his food and the experience. Highly recommended, Anh made the experience a little more special ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stay away! I am reporting Food Safety incident as one of the cooks picked his nose and then started preparing the food straight away. When issue was brought, I was told that the team will be informed about hygiene….. save your money, save your mental well-being.

If I could choose 0 stars I would. I am writing to express my disappointment after a recent visit to your Cardiff location, which unfortunately left my family and me very dissatisfied. We had chosen Pizza Express as a treat for my children's birthdays, but the experience fell far short of expectations. Firstly, the service was extremely slow. Despite being assured that our food would arrive in 10 minutes, we ended up waiting an additional 40 minutes just for two small Margherita pizzas. This delay was unexpected and frustrating, especially as we had hungry children at the table. Furthermore, the portion sizes were inadequate for six people, and the price we paid did not match the quantity or quality we received. The pizza itself was overly greasy, oily, and floppy, lacking the quality we expected from your brand. To make matters worse, the vegetarian options were limited and confusing on the menu. A pasta dish we almost ordered was not clearly marked as containing a beef sauce, which was only clarified by staff after we asked. As vegetarians, we were disappointed by the lack of clarity and options available. Unfortunately, the staff did not make our experience any better. They often responded with a stern attitude and minimal eye contact, giving us the impression that our questions were inconvenient. One team member even struggled to explain the vegetarian options and seemed unfamiliar with the menu. Considering the above, we felt our money was wasted. After our meal, we returned home still hungry, and what should have been a memorable birthday meal turned out to be a disappointing experience.

We came here during half term to make the most of the kids eat free deal. The restaurant was busy but not full. We waited half an hour after being seated to have our order taken and this was after asking twice if someone could come and take at least a drinks order. The drinks then took an hour to come and again this was only after complaining that they still hadn’t arrived. Parts of the order were missing and the food was pretty poor. I’ve always had a great experience at Pizza Express before but this was terrible. They did say they were short staffed but the manager just appeared not to care.

Sat in here for 40 minutes today and nobody took our order whilst the waiter was flirting with the woman on the table next to us, bit awkward to then walk out whilst they all watched. Probably go to the St David’s one next time

Watched as my pizza sat cold on the counter for 10 minutes only to be served it and told it has hot. Cold food. Given back as complained. They put it in the oven and burnt it. Disappointing food.

Heather (our server) was excellent. Really made our son feel at ease and made the experience so enjoyable for us all.

Enjoyable Lunch with friends_ after a game of bowling. We tried to book ( group of 8) but app not responding so we risked just turning up and thankfully the team were able to accomodate our party. Heather our server was a delight, and very attentive ensuring all the adults and children had what they needed including another prosecco when the first was flat. The kids had the piccolo menu, 3 courses for £7.95 and we adults took advantage of their October offer for all club rewards members, £8 for any classic pizza! Would efinitely recommend a visit with friends or family or both

The server Bas was absolutely amazing! Lovely pizzas and service, I recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We visited pizzeria around 9 pm, well before closing time, but the staff informed us that we couldn't sit at the corner table as they were closing off that area. To make matters worse, the pizza and pasta we ordered seemed rushed. The pizza was burnt and tasted bitter, and the pasta had no salt and insufficient cheese, despite our agreement to substitute penne pasta since they were out of macaroni for the mac and cheese. Overall, I was very disappointed, especially after spending £50.

The server Anh was absolutely amazing! She saw that our starter had not come to us and rectified the issue straight away. She was attentive and made sure to check in with us. She offered us one of the popular side dishes which ended up being delicious. We will definitely be coming again. A great example of customer service 👏

Great pizzas - Peperoni and prawn & garlic. Calamari was soft and delicious. Place overlooks the docks and the Welsh parliament buildings.

I rang the restaurant and the food left at 17:00. The driver didn’t drop it off until 19:08. It was over 2 hours late and freezing cold.

First visit and certainly not my last.Was served by Uzzal who was so helpful and explained how to down load the ap.Meal was tasty and the cocktails fairly amazing.

The food was ok, pasta potion size were small, and they ran out of Vanilla and chocolate icecream for dessert 😅

This was the best restaurant experience me and my girlfriend have had together. And its all thanks to the amazing atmosphere created by our sever Ann or the flower lady as she refers to her self as sometimes, she was amazing funny and kept up amazing service through out the whole time we were there we felt right at home and that anything we needed we could just ask she made us laugh and it really felt like i was going to eat food at a friends house and the food was very tasty i highly recommend getting the double roma personaly because you can experience two different pizzas but all and all thank you to Ann for an amazing night well deffo be back

Underwhelming experience. We'd reserved a table on the day. The restaurant was very busy and we were warned of a half hour wait on food. We saw our main course an hour after being seated. Bring a coat as Cardiff Bay evenings in August aren't necessarily warm but the doors are wide open. The food was fine - but the pizzas have definitely shrunk in the past couple of years. On the plus side our waitress was friendly and polite. All-in-all I wouldn't recommend Pizza Express unless you have an offer or voucher - and even then is it worth the wait?

I came in here before going to a McFly concert and can not fault the service and the food, I was served by Kelly who was absolutely amazing and made sure I was happy with everything, would definitely recommend here.

Used to be really good but after our visit last week, we won’t be returning for a long time. Service was slow and portions are smaller but cost more. Drinks were flat and pizza was cold. Didn’t have the time to wait for somebody to notice us and to send it back as we were off to a show. The Manager was the only person we could get the attention of, and he applied a discount to our bill. It was still overpriced for the quality and service but there we go. I wouldn’t waste your money here.

Expensive for what we had, but location and atmosphere made the whole experience .

Stone cold. Both the Pizza and wings. The Pizza looked undercooked too. Overall delivery was not too long, so they must have cooked it immediately & left it to go cold waiting for delivery. Not had a problem with other takeaway from similar distance.

I will never order from this place again, and I will make sure they don't get business from anyone else. I ordered three large pizzas and one side for my family and me, and I received only two large pizzas. Avoid this place at all costs! I tried calling the store five times, but there was no answer. Also, why don't the drivers check their orders before they pick them up? Come on! PizzaExpress Cardiff is just as bad as Deliveroo Cardiff. Avoid them both at all costs!!!

This isn’t the first time I’ve had an absolutely awful experience at this restaurant. The staff are rude. They bang things around the restaurant as if they’re at home and not assisting customers. This evening we were advised by the waiter the voucher code we wanted to use was for only one purchase and we would need a second one in order to get a separate offer. After ordering and eating our food our waiter then sent over a ridiculously rude member of staff to advise us we could not use both vouchers which after a quick read I understand fully. However, I do not understand the attitude problem, the way she could not explain the situation and her general mannerism. Change of staff is advisable, gives Cardiff bay a bad name

Really busy , but Sat outside , nice atmosphere, good food

Cardiff bay- customer service was great on arrival and front of house was wonderful. However asked for no tomatoes on pizza and it came put with no red onion when I suggested it was incorrect, it was sent back to kitchen for ten minutes for it to come back out with tomatoes picked off it and raw onion chucked on top and not even gone back in the oven. They were so tough to eat and almost impossible to cut with pizza cutter. Would never go back.

Where to start been going to this restaurant over the years but he food let it down . Order prawn pasta dish no signs of any prawn only tomato pasta £15 a dish nothing exciting The drinks where hot (cokes) the asian lady didn’t know if they open or not . The pototo salad wow it was boiled n be any potato’s with olive or dressing they where hard and not enjoyable at all . Sorry guys it wasn’t worth 75£

The place is so good and food is like heaven. Had a good service experience and we had a good time there.

We turned up without a booking for 9 nine people on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated quickly with a beautiful view of the bay. The staff were excellent, the food arrived quickly and we were dealt with in a timely and friendly manner. I had also told one of the waitresses that we had a birthday in our party and they organised a candle in a dessert and all the waitresses came and sang happy birthday. This was an excellent experience with fantastic food and caring staff. Would definitely go again

We had a really lovely meal at the Mermaid Quay Restaurant last weekend. A wonderful Vietnamese lady called Anh was our waitress and we can't praise her enough she was so helpful and is a real asset to the team there. We'd also like to mention Iestyn who was one of the waiters who also was very courteous and helpful to us. We'll definitely be returning there.

Half the toppings were missing, A dollop of cheese in a corner. Unnecessary. Was supposed to be a little treat but was just, well not nice. Truly as basic as orders get, with a polite thank you note Hard to understand howyou care so little? Oh well

We attended a schools workshop here and it was absolutely brilliant. Steven the manager was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about pizzas! The pizzas that the children made were delicious and everyone had a really great time. Thank you so much!!

It never disappoints, and I love that they continue to offer gluten-free items. And they take food allergies seriously.

We went in at 8.30 on a Monday night. Were seated very quickly in a very quiet restaurant with lots of staff idly stood around. 15 minutes later we walked out with none of the staff coming any where near us to take an order. We went to the restaurant next door who took our order within minutes. I would advise anyone to avoid Pizza Express Cardiff Bay. There's lots of other restaurants in the vicinity with infinitely better service.

Enjoyed signature pizza, lasagna and potato salad on the terrace. All very tasty. Service very good. Enjoyed the view of the bay. Recommended. Not 5 stars, there is still room for improvement

The restaurant has a great, vibrant atmosphere. You can sit outside and enjoy a beautiful view of the bay, which is really nice. The service was good – the staff were friendly and helpful. Our food came quickly, it was hot, and it tasted delicious.

Basic pizza. Didn't get what we thought we would. Opted for pizza with salad in the middle. All the salad consisted of as salad leaves. Very disappointed.

Greeted and seated nicely even though we hadn’t booked.. however we asked if we could move table as we were in a draft near the door, we were moved and then kept waiting for a long time before getting our pizza… our pizzas were very doughy but we didn’t send them back for fear of another very long wait.. even getting some water was a long wait..there was one waitress who thankfully noticed us her name was Anh Owen and she really made an effort to make the end of our evening better.

Waited at the door to be seated, the staff noticed but no one bothered to come, they were just standing at one corner of the restaurant and talking. After about 10 minutes of waiting we went inside and someone finally came to help only to tell us there were no tables available without a reservation on a weekday in the afternoon. Most of the tables were empty. Poor reception!

Very tasty food with friendly service and a view of the bay

Terrible experience. Visited this branch pre-theatre, arriving for a pre-booked table at 6.20. By 7.15, we still didn’t have our food. When it finally arrived, one pizza had fragments of a glass lightbulb on it! (See image) When we flagged this to a waiter, the pizza was swiftly taken away but that was the last we saw of any staff; no one came to check that we were ok, to make sure nothing had been ingested, or to offer a replacement pizza. Worst of all, not a single member of staff came to apologise. After waiting 10 minutes with no contact, we approached the manager and mentioned the glass, but he still offered no kind of apology - only an awkward acknowledgment that he was aware of what had happened. The total lack of reaction, recognition or accountabily was shocking. There was literally glass in our food. The least we expected was an apology.

Perfect date night. Wonderful atmosphere. Great food. Exact eating temperature and so so tasty. Service was great, very attentive service from Anna. Juliana looks to be a great manager, she works just as hard in the restaurant floor as the other staff, tending to the customers' needs and wants. All the staff are clean and tidy and look happy in their work. I am so impressed. I did make these positive comments to Anna who was happy to hear we had a great dining experience 😀

Overpriced, tiny portions, average food.

Got sat down and then we were never served. We spoke to a staff and they said they would be right over. We decided to leave after 40 minutes. Didn’t even get a drinks order. Rubbish service wouldn’t recommend (we went on a quiet day)

Restaurant took great care preparing order. Delivery arrived on bicycle. The entire order is stone cold. Delivery person's phone not working. First and last order.

Always enjoy Pizza Express and this is a really good one. American Hot for me, absolutely spot on!
