Pizza Express in Wakefield

It would appear the heating isn’t working in this restaurant. This wasn’t mentioned at all when we got there: so spent the entire meal freezing cold. Topped with the extremely slow service taking our order and the a 30+ minute wait for food. Not sure we will be returning

Service is awful, we waited for 5-10mins to be acknowledged at the door. When we dined the heating was broken, so we were sitting in the cold. Despite this it took over an hour for for the food to arrive despite the restaurant being quiet. I’d avoid if possible

Disappointing. Chewy cold pizza, no parsley or garlic in the garlic & parsley butter or the garlic butter. Waited 2h. Couldn’t get a refund

Worst Pizza Express experience I’ve ever had in 15 years of dining at different PE restaurants around Yorkshire. 1. Had to wait at the entrance for 10 minutes before the manager eventually came over to ask how many people our table was for. (Just 2) 2. The place was so dirty. Nearly all of the tables hadn’t been cleaned even though it was half empty and had left overs everywhere we looked. The place was a mess. 3. Once seated, it took 15 for anyone to take our order. 4. Our dough ball starter took 35 minutes to arrive after that. The butter was rock hard and so it was impossible to spread on the dough. 5. The pizza came after 50 minutes. I had a basic American and the pepperoni was in piles on one side of my pizza. Looked like the chef couldn’t be bothered to separate the pieces so they were stuck together in big clumps. 6. There was a small gap behind my chair and the next table and yet the waiters decided to carry boxes of dirty plates past me most of the evening. I was knocked at least 2 times whilst eating. 7. After sitting there in my coat the entire time freezing, we found out the heating wasn’t working either. There was an electric heater located at the opposite end of the restaurant. This also meant when the pizza came out, our food was stone cold after 5 minutes. I’m a gold rewards member so I eat regularly at PE and will continue to in other restaurants but this has to be the worst experience ever. We won’t ever be returning. Recommend avoiding and try a different one if you can.

Turned up looking for. A quick table before skiing, for four Inc a wheelchair, sorted our table quickly, took our orders & the food was great. Felt really well looked after, not for the first time here. Really good team of staff, can highly recommend. Thanks PE!

Staff don’t even acknowledge you as you walk in all stood around doing nothing, they need new staff and a decent manager. It was so quiet as well for this time of year

Stood there with my daughters waiting to be acknowledged, loads of servers stood at the back of the restaurant all of which saw us but just acted busy despite it been very quiet. Staff stood around doing nothing, just walked out in the end….dreadful and will not be back

This place is a joke, we waited 2 hours for our food that never came, the restaurant wasn't even busy and it looked like other customers were having the same issues. The manager stood in the corner laughing with other staff who just stood around and didn't care. We decided to leave and it seems they hadn't even started making the mains. Lost out on a party of 7 definitely won't be going back.

Food was as good as all other pizza express, but we waited 50 minutes for food, wasn't that busy. There were 6 staff members just standing around and we had to ask them to order. Our waiter was dismissive, food just put anywhere on the table. Had to go and find someone to ask for our desserts, the table was not cleared, we had to do it ourselves, and then one dessert didn't turn up!

We were heading to the theatre in Leeds and decided to stop off en route for food. We booked in advance online which was surprisingly simple and our table was waiting at the allocated time. The place was pretty quiet and we were seated quickly. From then on it went downhill, we were not seen for a drinks order but managed to tag it onto the food order when a waiter finally took our order. At the point of order we mentioned the theatre trip and that we were on a time constraint, he wasn’t interested in engaging and just sniggered and walked away. Over an hour later some food arrived however it was not what we ordered, we raised this and immediately it was met with resistance and it was suggested it’s definitely what we ordered (surprising as we don’t often order 5 main courses for 4 people). The waiter was not particularly helpful in any way whatsoever and when we reminded him of the time constraint he simply asked whether we just wanted to leave and eat elsewhere or wait for the food. He returned with one of the missing, delayed pizzas and then later on with something to cut it with. Emily (a kind and understanding waitress) did her best to resolve the situation and delivered the final meal just before we had to leave so we took that in a take away box. All in all, food actually tasted alright but the service and experience was absolutely shocking. We were just one of many tables that had a poor dining experience tonight.

Pizza has pepper all over it instead of oregano. Dough balls was burnt and in pieces. Was cold too.

Nice pizza, limited choice of sides, expensive drinks. Reward system is a joke. Gold member £1.95 off of a romana upgrade, bronze member gets a free £5.95 side 🤔 Why not Bronze 5% discount, Silver 10% and Gold 20% etc. Service good, nice pizza but £60 for a quick bite to eat and a drink?

Two stars not one just because of the lovely waitress who served us. She was so apologetic and friendly, doing what she could to improve the dire situation. 18:15 reservation and we were coming up to 19:15 and no sign of our food. The restaurant was not even half full and we started to suspect others eating had arrived after us. We asked the waitress, who told us the pizzas were going in now and should be about ten minutes. Without prompting, she did offer us a round of drinks for free, but we declined, as we just wanted food really and some of us were just drinking tap water. One of our party, realising he no longer had time to eat his meal, as he needed to be elsewhere, had to leave and cancelled his order. We really did not expect to wait so long for a simple pizza… something is clearly very wrong in the kitchen or, to save cost, pizza express are not staffing the kitchen adequately. When the food arrived, we were offered a free dessert each (the waitress was really trying!) The food was ok, but nothing special. And, to be frank, the enjoyment had totally gone by this point. When asked if we wanted dessert, we asked instead for our initial round of drinks to be taken off the bill, as we just wanted to go home now. This was much cheaper than the desserts offered. The manager came over to say she had taken 10% off the bill. So rather than remove the £13.85 of drinks, the final poor effort was to reduce the bill by only £10.19. We didn’t argue, we just wanted to go home. But that was very poor. I hope the £3.66 was worth it to you, as I won’t be back. Thank you to your lovely waitress, I really did appreciate her efforts. Sadly, she couldn’t rectify such colossal incompetence. We left, having taken 2 hours to have a pizza and a drink.

If you want a tasty Italian pizza, this is the place you want to eat. Is it okay if you book a table in advance, it is very crowded. Deserves all the stars, congratulations.

We had a really fantastic meal here today, Yasmin who looked after us was absolutely wonderful with recommendations for food choices and with our little boy who’s birthday it was. Food was really good, our whole table enjoyed every plate we had. Thank you to Jasmin for the candle in the brownie and for singing Happy Birthday ❤️

Never arrived. Justeat fault, restaurant is fine

Food was fine, nothing special. Dough balls were stone cold. Staff were nice but the service was incredibly slow. Just 2 of us and we waited 45mins for our food. We went on a week day evening and the restaurant was maybe at 15-20% capacity so, no excuse for the slow service.

Our booking was at 5.15pm - we waiting that long outside and lack of staff attending people waiting to sit down. finally got assisted to at 5.30pm. Restaurant was less than half full. Had to ask 4 times to order food - finally ordered. after waiting 1hr 15mins we asked where our food was - the waiter told us he would check and on returning said were waiting on your pizza bases will be approx 15mins - at this point we said what about our starters (which were all dough balls) he went back to check...he didnt return so after waiting 1hr 30mins we went to ask the waiters/waitresses which were just stood around the serving section was ours ready? we were told they were just plating up. The food came out - and was given to table which was sat to the side of us - who came in after us and also ordered after us. At this point we had enough - we had a 4 year old and 2 year old with us who were starving by this point. So we left to get the children fed as it was now 7pm. Throughout our time there 4 tables left and tables were left uncleaned. a group of 8 people were stood waiting to be seated and after stood their for approx 15mins of been ignored decided to leave. Another table of 6 people who ordered before us got up and walked out as they still hadn't been served food. there's a massive lack of service and the service you get at this restaurant when you do get someone's attention is terrible.

Possibly the worst experience ever. Never have I walked out of a restaurant until tonight. Waiter was extremely rude. Waiting over an hour for starters to be served with 2 of them being burnt and almost inedible when they eventually arrived after 4 times of asking. Told mains were on the pass and would be served next, 5 out of 8 mains arrived, queried this again after another 15 mins of waiting for the missing mains and ended up leaving as they were no where near ready. Another 4-5 tables also left. No issue in getting delivery orders out of the door whilst not one diner at a table had any food in front of them

Avoid at all costs, save your time. Booked a table for 1730 after Ski session and waited for food till 1912. Starters came after the mains and sides after we had finished. Streams of JustEat and Deliveroo drivers in/out while we sat like idiots. Disgusting way to treat customers!!

Just don't bother with this place. As a takeaway, maybe, but as a restaurant, is well beyond a joke. 1 hour and 25 min from ordering food to getting some undercooked pizzas. We didn't even order starters, just 2 pizzas. During the whole waiting time we didn't even get asked if we needed anything, more drinks, given us an update or nothing. The pizza area couldn't move any slower, with the guys in the kitchen not caring in the slightest. We are definitely not coming back.

Slow service on seating and ordering. Dirty plates left on a few tables around us throughout our entire meal. Shame as pizza express is usually good, but this is the worst one I’ve ever been to.

Visited here in October half term, we went as they opened so there was only a few people in. Ordered straight away as we had another 2 hours to drive to our destination. So quick stop ended up being way over an hour, our sons dough balls came withing about 7 minutes then after sitting another 40 minutes we were told sorry they're just putting your pizza in now. Absolutely baffled why it took almost 50 minutes from our order to put the pizza in the oven. Our 6 year old was so hungry and fed up at this point we almost left but we needed some food after a long drive and didn't want to go somewhere else. We very very rarely eat out and this really was a treat for us as I usually make up sandwiches but thought we'd have a treat. Never again 😒 I'll stick with packed lunch I guess. Shame as the staff were really nice but food service was extremely poor. Then the kids eat free was actually charged on our receipt so I had to ask them to take it off which they did but if I hadn't of checked they were actually going to charge us for it.

Food was good but ordered 3 JD and Cokes after a hard day moving house, to find 3 coke zeros had been delivered. Just waiting to see what customer service is like after my complaint

Booked a table for 2pm today. Admittedly arrived early at 1.40. There was another party in front of me. It took 10 minutes for someone to come over. So it was now 1.50. By this time there were people queing out if the door to be served. I was told I would have to come back at 2 as it was busy taking orders. I took my custom elsewhere. Absolutely appalling service. I know it was the school holidays but poor service will lead to customers going elsewhere. Needless to say I won't be going there again.

Disappointing experience. We waited for a long time to be acknowledged on arrival and when we finally got a table the service was terribly slow despite there being very few customers. The staff were really friendly and helpful but there just wasn't enough of them! Food was average and the pizza was overcooked. Nightmare trying to redeem offers and having to download the Pizza express app to get a discount (prices without discount are ridiculous!).

Was very disappointed because when we went in they tell us you need to pre book. There is no notice outside or anything telling us this. If we had known we could have booked, then done some shopping and came back and ate.

I ordered my pizza, and it was collected from pizza express at 19:09, and arrived at my house at 20:35. So for nearly 1 hour 30 minutes my pizza was getting delivered, meaning by the time I got it it was flat cold.

Bit of a disaster all round really. 90 mins in a mostly empty restaurant for two pizzas shouldn’t happen. One arrives luke warm, the other piping hot. “Excuse” from waitress was it was a busy understaffed kitchen - yet they still managed to get big orders out for other tables who arrived after us. Didn’t appreciate being lied to - clearly our order had been forgotten. Escaped with kid’s pudding in a box, no sign or offer of the babychinno. You’d think Pizza Express would have enough practice over the years at efficiently serving pizza. Sadly not.

It was my wife and i's first time at any Pizza Express. The initial reception was very warm, friendly and attentive by your staff Mariane(i hope i got the name right!)- Great atmosphere, good food and nice staff!

Possibly one of the best Pizza Expresses I've been to in a while. It was clean, nice and modern, and plenty of seating. You always know what you get from a Pizza Express, and we were veru quickly served. They were even very, very quick to cook a fresh pizza when one of us mistakenly ordered one with chicken (we're vegetarian). Highly recommend whether you're here for XScape or just stopping for food.

Had a meal today at castkeford branch. Waiting staff were sub par at best. we had to keep flagging someone down when we wanted to order. food was beautiful but the staff were uninterested . It wasn't busy either so couldn't pass it off as they were under pressure. We won't be returning

Food wasn't bad just standard pizza. The drinks prices were absolutely disgusting. £3.55 for a can of pop!

Walked in. loads of tables free and not cleaned. Staff disinterested. Escorted to the table. Took absolutely ages to get our meals ordered. When they did come out - not great. Food was undercooked. One of the party were gluten free. There wasn't anything to say gluten free and We saw his pizza touch a glutinous pizza... They still brought it out. He didn't eat it luckily otherwise he'd be in hospital. Lots of other guests had to walk up to the server to ask for things and bills.. Not great at all.

Order never delivered to me....

Came as a family of six, all of our main meals came at different times with most meals having been eaten by the time the last 2 meals arrived. Carbonara was lacking in sauce and the pasta was very chewy and very small for the price. Pizza bases looked soggy in the middle and slightly raw. Crispy Chicken salad was a cheap breaded chicken on a bed of just rocket.

We had a lovely time at pizza express this evening. Drinks, food, and vibes were on point, even despite some other customers being challenging towards the staff and creating a scene in the restaurant. Manager Josh and server Kyle dealt with the situation with the utmost professionalism and maintained a positive energy for the rest of us.

Poor on last visit. Although staff were really good, you don't and shouldn't be picking blue paper and plastic film from your food. Drink prices are way too much, and the "extra" charge for 1 ketchup, says we have given up on PE after many years.

worst delivery I've ever had. the woman demanded I leave the house because her engine was running. I don't know what kind of car it was but I think it had keys and could have turned it off for the delivery. very unpleasant person

i ordered from this place last night . an was about 830-845 an 45 minutes later i received a phone call saying we cant deliver you any food as our kitchen closed at 2130 ..: but it allows you order for delivery up to 2230 i believe it said . still took my payment but i received nothing . very poor customer service in my opinion

Had high expectations as we've had great pizzas at Norwich. The crusts were dry and burnt. Topping was very thin. Ie 5 very small pieces of goats, couldn't see the vegan mozzarella cheese, 6 teaspoons of spinach and 5 onion pieces.

Pizza is OK but compared what we got vs what's advertised £25 each, limited topping and expensive Perroni. See what's advertised vs what you get

Shocking service. Didn’t update the app, didn’t answer the phone to check on the order. Ordered at 6pm. Arrived at 8pm. Really poor.

We visited today we ordered our food can't fault The starter how ever the calonolii was not calonolii it was folded over lasagna sheets no taste and full of grease. The young lady who we had with us had the kids meal deal and went for the brownie her reaction was it's like dry donkeys arse in the dessert. Left constructive feedback back like does the chef know what Susie salt and Percy pepper is.

Pizza Express in Castleford is one of those places where I know the service will be incredible. Every time me and my partner go for a meal, we are so well look after, everyone greets you with a smile and go above and beyond. Eva served us last time and she was absolutely incredible, honestly could not fault her service. Food is delicious, just a tad on the pricey side but the restaurant is kid friendly and has a generally great atmosphere. Would recommend!

Absolutely horrendous!! Went for lunch and less than half the restaurant full yet waited over an hour for our food whilst staff were just stood around chatting. Got a starter to share and then sat with an empty dish for 25 minutes and lost count how many times staff just walked past us, looked at it and totally ignored us. By far the WORST Gluten Free pizza I have ever been served, totally inedible. Disgraceful to be charging £15 for that. Barely any toppings (you could just see base which was absolutely horrendous). I have never had to send food back at a restaurant and be totally put off that I lost my appetite. All staff were totally miserable, except one young girl. For a pizza restaurant it was nothing more than disappointing.

We had a lovely meal here. The food is fantastic, we were served quickly and food arrived quick too. We had our 4 year old grandson with us, we were provided colouring pens, an activity sheet and a hat to colour in. It kept him occupied while we waited. The kids get a 3 course meal for £7.95 which is great value. We had pizza, these were delicious. The staff were very attentive. Good choice on the menu, we enjoyed our meals.

Over priced, poor quality pizzas, and two of our party have upset stomachs as a result of dining here. Staff hardly said two words when serving us. Money would have been better spent getting a takeaway at home and would have been a third of the price!

Great food, great service tonight at pizza express castleford. Our waiter was Lee, he had a great sense of humour, good quick service, and even did a little extra for my birthday dessert....I had told him it was my birthday several times!! Thankyou Lee for making my birthday family meal a good one!!

Our go to restaurant! The staff are absolutely incredible and the food is always perfect! Jasmine and another manager (unsure of her name) are so friendly and kind, always making sure the restaurant is ran perfectly. Kyle is the best server you could ask for. Our little girl absolutely loves visiting just to see all the staff! We love our frequent visits!

Had a fabulous meal before the New Year festivities and was served by a lovely gentleman called Lee. He was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much bother. Portions were huge so has to take leftovers home!

Ordered around 1800, arrived at 2000, was cold. Driver disappeared from tracking for long periods. Firstly he blamed the restaurant for giving the wrong order, then changed his excuse saying that Gluten free pizzas take longer! What a waste of 90 quid, I'll never order through you again.

There were 17 in our party and we were served efficiently without waiting too long. The food was standard Pizza Express as you would expect. I particularly enjoyed the salad nicoise. My only gripe was that there was a 15% service charge added to the bill which in my opinion is OTT to say the least.

Today I came for pizza with a friend. We both have pizza express apps, so we decided that my friend would pay for the pizza and I would pay for the rest. The waitress probably didn't like the idea that we wanted to take advantage of the promotion from our apps, because we were sitting at the same table. I had to explain to the waitress why I wanted to divide the costs in this way and was told that "it's technically impossible". Thank you for such service, I canceled the order and left. There is friendly staff in Doncaster who are always willing to help and never cause any problems. I do not recommend

Took over an hour for a driver to even be assigned, then half an hour later it had said the order had been delivered. I rang the restaurant ans I hadn’t had any delivery and was told that there was nothing they could do as they had handed it over to the driver and that it had probably been stolen? Absolutely ridiculous to be honest. I get it wasn’t the fault of the person I spoke with but he also said it happens all the time so I’m just confused how I’m £35 down and have no food (for my birthday of all days) and some delivery driver has just pinched my order?

Looked after well by all the team this evening. I was looking for a warm space while my daughter was at clip and climb. Had a lovely latte and some very spicy dough balls with honey. Lee made me feel cared for without being imposing. What a nice natural way he has about him. Overall more than I was expecting. We'll done all
