Pizza Express in Brighton and Hove

The dining experience fell flat in all areas. Service was ok ish, atmosphere was non existent and the food wasn't great value at all. £15.95 for lasagne that even a small child would be left wanting more, wasn't what I expected. I got home from there and had to eat again. Will I go back, doubtful.

Absolutely a joy from start to finish. Lovely greeting by staff on arrival, very attentive and helpful. The food was particularly good this time for some reason. We always enjoy it but we did say the pizzas had a certain something extra and the waitress told the chef :-) The Manager said hello and we do wish to commend Megs. A real Ambassador for Pizza express 10/10

Negative experience, rude staffs with the costumers and with the drivers from deliveruus to collect food.avoid it.

Just ordered delivery from them took over an hour. They will argue not their fault of course and subcontractor issues with delivery… accountability always with the unit of sale 😒

I took my niece and nephew here today. They had great coeliac options. The kids loved it and the whole team were great. Marta is an absolute asset to the team and such a kind person. Everywhere needs a Marta. Thank you.

If a company as large as Pizza Express runs a promotion, it is incumbent on the manager to communicate it to the staff. We had a 50% off pizza voucher which we presented to our server on arrival, as it says to do on the voucher. Our server appeared to have never seen one before, and said that we'd have to join the Pizza Express club by downloading the app, as there was no button on the till for a discount. Spent the next 10 minutes downloading and understanding the app. We asked for the manager when the bill came. He said that he'd seen a couple of the vouchers, and deducted 50% off the cost of the pizzas, but it seems strange that such a major promotion would be almost unknown, especially as the people at the next table had one too. All in all, an uncomfortable and unnecessary experience. Of the food, the Margherita pizza was good but covered in pepper, while the BBQ Bits had way too much bbq sauce. The Margherita cocktail had no salt around the rim of the glass.

This was my 2nd visit although 2 years apart .found it to be a very pleasant experience, food and staff are excellent !

The good thing about pizza express is that wherever one goes, one knows what to expect. The only slight disappointment on this occasion was that we found the service was a little slow. But other than that, excellent as always. There is a small area of seating outside which is nice and where one can bring dogs (🙏🙏) and watch the world go by.

Don’t ever get a Too Good To Go box as you’ll only get dough balls with no sauce Staff were very sweet though

Very positive atmosphere, staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient. Food consistent with the usual recipe E.g. you go to a pizza express and you know what you’re going to get every time. Tried a starter I hadn’t tried before which was nice (garlic mushrooms with goats cheese). Used the self checkout method via the pizza express app which I often can’t at home due to poor signal coverage at the restaurant. All very simple, easy and highly pleasant. Will definitely come back on my next visit 🥰

Picked up a takeaway tonight. 1 Margarita and 1 American Hot, 1 Coleslaw. It was the worst pizza I have ever had (one slice of the margarita for me, I couldn’t eat anymore) It was dry, devoid of any toppings and tasted like cardboard. My husband, being hungry at two slices of the American Hot and decided he couldn’t eat anymore. £32.15. Shame on you Pizza Express!

Quite busy for a Tuesday! Food was good but prices up and toppings down compared to pre pandemic. Nice calzone I had, and the American was reported as good also. Good service and a bit of banter too made for a fun meal.

Average experience. The pizzas were a bit underdone, the staff were lovely but unhelpful and inflexible. Overall it felt like everything was leaning on the stingy side.

Billboard offered 2 courses, Mon. To Thurs. for £15.95. DON'T be FOOLED, should read Pizza and Doughballs, doughballs being the only other course on the offer. Left for FRANA MANCA, excellent service, cheerful staff, V.impressive pizza's.

We visited this establishment today to celebrate my sons birthday. The leather seating area was split in a couple of areas, giving a run down impression, the two tables beside ours were being used as the staff cloakroom with their drinks and belongings scattered around untidily.The triangular advert and table number sign was stained with something from a former customer leaving me wondering if the table had been cleaned prior to our visit. Most of my party enjoyed the meal ( spot the prawn on the garlic prawn pizza)but I ordered a caeser salad and was told they didn't have any eggs - (does caeser salad have eggs) so I canceled the order but an egg less one was brought and promptly rejected. This restaurant needs a good clean and the staff could do with an in house training. Overall a cheap dirty establishment charging extortionate prices

I came in and had a nice meal with my fiancé and we was greeted by a nice gentlemen who I believe was the General Manager, I've been to a few chains now and he seems to have a very good team at this store, he's got a great attitude to work and is very professional, also my waitress Marta was very polite and was a brilliant service to have. overall imp very satisfied and will be coming back more often.

Overall, the food was decent, but the main waiter that we had was quite rude. We had a man that was bald over the top of his head with short hair around the sides. I think he was Northern Irish and quite tall, not that he was rude because he is tall or Northern Irish, but that’s the most specific I could be about who this waiter is. Ordering the starters was no drama, as they came pretty fast and tasted lovely. When we ordered our mains everything seemed fine, but then when our pizzas arrived, I was given the wrong pizza, and when some of the people I was with said I’d been given the wrong pizza, the waiter immediately said ‘Oh, it was a bit mumbled’ referring to when I had ordered, which doesn’t sound awful on paper, but it was extremely passive aggressive, and obviously a way of telling me it was my fault that my order was wrong. He could have easily just apologised on behalf of the situation and asked me to clarify which pizza I had ordered. Firstly, I didn’t mumble, and remember speaking clearly when I ordered, but if he didn’t hear me, if I had indeed mumbled, or if the pizza I ordered sounds similar to another thing on the menu, he could have asked me to clarify what I’d ordered which would have been fine. To be fair, the correct pizza came fairly fast after I’d had to re-order which was a positive. Secondly, when we were eventually paying, my girlfriend, one of the people whom I was eating with, was trying to get a discount using her Pizza Express App, and called our waiter over because the code she was using didn’t seem to work, and she’d tried quite a few times. Again, the waiter did nothing but insist that the way she had used the app was wrong, but when he told her what she should have done, she confirmed that she had indeed done what he said, already. He wouldn’t just say ‘no worries, would you mind trying again?’ which is all that needed to happen and was how we managed to pay in the end. I have no idea if this man is going through something bad in his life, and I don’t want to assume that he’s fine, because upsetting aspects of one’s personal life can of course have a huge knock on affect to one’s professional life, and just make them more short with people in general, but either way, the way we were spoken to was fairly unpleasant and I don’t think it was necessary. I used to work in hospitality and it’s a number one rule not to speak a customer this way, so why should he? I’m not saying that the customer is always right or anything like that, but don’t be rude or passive aggressive when there’s just no need. I really hope I didn’t come across as entitled or just a plain d*ckhead in this review, but I felt frustrated after our experience. However, we’ve been there before and the staff we’ve had have been lovely, and the food has been nice too, which it was this time as well.

This is our all time favorite place to eat. The hove staff are always so welcoming and friendly and the food is delicious!

They have some vegan options. Tried the American Jack, but was disappointed. And £2 for extra mushrooms, there was maybe one chopped up mushroom. The app seems like a good idea, but too many screens to go through.

Friendly staff, delicious food and lovely atmosphere. We had dinner there with two young children and the service was amazing. Food was served quickly and with high quality. Environment was clean and spacious.

Have been coming here for years but seems there priority is now delivery’s and takeaways, as waited an hour and 20 mins for 3 pizzas, so painfully slow. Ruined a birthday celebration.

Walked in and seated straight away. Swift service, very clean tables, pleasant staff and really really good food! Definitely will go there again!

I chose the Leggero King Prawn. What I received was a small ring of pizza dough with dome tomato sauce on, some halves of cherry tomatoes & few small mean looking prawns, a few rings of raw red onion & in the centre some salad leaves with a dressing on - all for little under £15!! Very poor value & very boring food so I can't recommend. We did get good service but it was quiet at the time.

As friends and family, we have been going to Pizza Express now for over 30 years. Sadly, everything comes to an end and visiting Pizza Express certainly falls into that category. Whilst i can excuse the slow service as it was Saturday night, what cant be accepted is poor quality pizzas which were dry, lacked seasoning and overall poor quality for money. In addition to the restaurant being busy, it seemed the focus was on deliveries rather than customers in the restaurant. We went to Pizza Express as we thought it would be a quick pit stop with good quality food, how wrong we were.

Visited on a Monday when it was relatively quiet. The food tasted okay, but the service was a bit shoddy. Had to wait at least 40 minutes for the bill (after asking 3 separate members of staff), was told by a member of staff that they would bring over a card machine, only to see them ignore this and go straight to another table to take an order, then gave a different group of customers their bill (despite my group arriving AND finishing before them). The team on during this shift weren't attentive at all. There were probably only 4 other tables amongst 3 waiters, so I don't understand why it took so long just to charge us and let us leave... I'd dine at Pizza Express again, but probably the restaurant in Brighton as I assume they'd offer a quicker service.

Been to this Pizza Express many times. Always impressed with food and service. However staff has totally changed, service this time was slow and poor . The place was virtually empty and staff were more interested in sending out takeaways with Deliveroo, Just Eat etc, than serving those paying top dollar in the restaurant. Pizzas were great when they eventually arrived.

I have loved Pizza express for years I would go a long way for their nicoise... I have however always felt they are over priced and not good vfm this visit did nothing to didactic me of that opinion. My companion is gluten free and these are clearly marked out but there is not a great choice so ask she cobbled together three small plates to make a meal, very expensive I may add. gf dough balls were undercooked so went back and can I believe that they brought new ones but two short of a full portion as she had eaten two. Mean.... You make enough profit folks on soft drinks etc to allow a generous portion. Counting dough balls. Really? Extras are hugely overpriced and I always leave feeling duped Hohum

Just picked up a fiorentina pizza Warm soggy and tasteless total waste of £12.95 This particular branch’s pizza quality depends upon who is making the pizzas one day good one day poor

Nice friendly smaller Pizza Express. Staff are very good, and Pizzas are as you'd hope they'd be. Normal prices, and happy to give a jug of tap water. Coffee was excellent too.

Very good quality food and service

I am so pleasantly overwhelmed with the exceptional service we received this evening at Pizza express Hove. We had a waitress serve us who we’d had before. Unfortunately I didn’t find out her name but she had long brunette hair and glasses. She was just brilliant! We were celebrating our sons 5th birthday and this sever could not have done nor. She was friendly, kind, accommodating and just gave the best service. We love Pizza Express Hove and it’s down to the waiting staff/ serving staff you have (not to mention your delicious menu!) Thanks so much

Prior to our recent visit to the Hove Branch I received an email asking for feedback direct to Pizza Express (not on google reviews). It was no bad I detailed our experience and didn't go back to the Hove branch for over 6 months or more. We decided to give them a second chance as we love the place and team. Unfortunately we had a stand in manager on the prior visit that ruined it for us. Just wanted to say how please we were to return a few weeks ago and see the regular team in place, they are amazing everyone of them. They really treat you well and make your visit enjoying and they always have time for a quick chat. Just wanted to record this somewhere so the management know how lucky they are.

We have been to a number of Pizza Express restaurants, mainly because they are easy going and the little one like the various pasta options - the one in Hove is particularly good. The staff were helpful and patient and made the whole dining process enjoyable, even within these strange times of reinstated COVID requirements. The restaurant was clean, nicely busy and had a good atmosphere - I have been to other branches that have been disappointing in terms of service and food quality , but this branch is not like that. Our server was very good, also helped us sign up for the Pizza Express app which then enabled us to claim some free doughballs off the menu , which is always welcome! I tipped in cash - I'm not sure about the trend of pooling tips when done via electronic payment and I prefer to have the person who helped make our experience good rewarded directly , so cash it is! Overall , it is a good place to go for standard, reliable, consistent and tasty food. We wm be going there again - particularly to take advantage of the app special offers and freebies . All our children from various families met early in life and celebrated one of their 5th birthday in this restaurant which was so exciting then for them. We have beeneating there since but such a special night for the group to gather again in the year of their 18ths . Great food for many different appetite needs and wonderful staff attention to our quite busy group !

Visited Saturday 16th on the chance of getting a table around 8pm! Restaurant was packed. Manager agreed to set the staff table by the door for us and we were told there was a wait for food. Well, can I just say service was amazing. Not only because they gave up there staff table, food was quick, hot, fresh & just what we needed. Staff were friendly and smiley which is always nice to see, nothing worse than a grumpy staff member. Manager clearly new how to run a fabulous restaurant, behind every great manager there is a great team! Well done and thank you. X

I went today with my friend and honestly it was the best customer service. From when we walked in we were greeted by the loveliest man and chef David made us the best pizzas. Despite the fact we couldn't be seated due to covid they still managed to offer great customer service. Definitly my favourite pizza express due to thier staff! :)

The service was very friendly and COVID compliant. Food was as expected from a Pizza Express, nice easy family meal and they accepted Tesco vouchers which was a bonus.

Absolutely atrocious pizza via deliveroo this week. The restaurant isn't far from where I live but the first order didn't turn up then after contacting deliveroo the second order took over an hour then arrived burnt, cold and inedible. Really, really poor. Got my money back via deliveroo.... You need some quality control and don't treat diners that cannot or don't want to come to the restaurant as second class customers.

Arrived late, no booked table. Good service. Very covid aware. Great staff, attentive and friendly. Speedy service- which is what we asked for.

We went as we often do for my birthday and had three courses plus wine. We reeled at how expensive the restaurant has become, when the main ingredient in almost all dishes is effectively, bread! £82 less the £10 per head government payment and a £20 gift card we had. Covid was being managed well, staff were good, but to read in the media that this chain is struggling financially, there was c. 80% gross profit on our meal is unacceptable. Wine is 4-5 times the retail (let alone wholesale) price in the nearby supermarkets, which are not the cheapest anyway. We have paid far less when Pizza Express were offering deals and what happened to my birthday Prosecco? We’ve been losyal for nearly two decades but I can not justify over eighty pounds for a pizza meal.

Impressed with how this branch are managing distancing during Covid. We visited this week for a family meal and the restaurant felt clean and spaced out well and both the food and staff were great.

Poor service considering we were one of the only people My kids meal order was uncooked, imagine if it was a child that had eaten it. Food was incomplete and orders were messed up. Overall would not recommend

This was our annual Pizza Express meal where we planned to use our free bottle of birthday prosecco voucher. Arrived at 7.45, Weds eve to be told food might take 30-40 mins. Ordered wine, starters & pizza. Wine & olives/dough balls v fast, but after an hour we ordered another bottle of fizz as no sign of our pizzas. By 9.30 (Weds, school night! ) still no sign of pizza, another 'complimentary' bottle arrived but we sent it back as we needed food, not more alcohol! Neighbouring table had sent their pizza back as soggy & undercooked. At 9.45 we gave up and left, paying nothing, but v hungry & disappointed.

It may be a Pizza Express but the staff make it feel like a local pizzeria, always very warm and friendly. Everything is freshly prepared to order, naturally, and they will adjust dishes based on preferences or dietary requirements, it's better than a couple of the cheap local 'traditional' Italians for sure and may be just round the corner from where I live but still worth mentioning I have been to the Church Road, Hove, Pizza Express more times than all the others put together. :)

£7.25 for 3 pigs in blankets seemed like a lot of money, but in fact they were very meaty and very tasty. Would recommend. Our main courses were great, though my son's pasta could've been hotter. He said it was ok, so I didn't make a fuss. Our desserts came on plates that were a little warm, which wasn't ideal for ice cream. My glass had lipstick marks on, which I didn't notice until the end. All in all it was satisfactory, but a few small things just took away from the experience.

Has a very nice meal here last night, food was very good, service was excellent and the ambience was perfect. We arrived just before 8 pm having booked but there was no need as the place was probably only 20% at capacity. Everything was well priced so 10 out of 10. Thanks
