Pizza Express in North Hertfordshire

I like pizza and this is the place to go. Haha. My partner and I decided on boxing day 2024 to go out for a meal as we couldn't be bothered cooking. It was quiet and the staff were wonderful.

Food was lovely and service was amazing from Wendy and Martyna. Thank you 🙏🏼

Disappointing date night last night :( I have ordered takeaways from here quite a few times but this was my first time at the restaurant itself. I ordered a side of the new mac and cheese for my starter which had not come by the time my partner was half way through his starter. I was told it would probably come out with my main which I didn’t want because 1 I was starving and 2 my main was a pizza so I asked to cancel the Mac and have polenta chips with the pizza. The lady then came back and said there were no more polenta fries so I ordered the crispy potatoes. When my pizza arrived it was a different waiter who informed me my mac and cheese was on the way and I told them I had cancelled it as it was meant to be a starter. I then found a short straight hair in my pizza which I discarded and did not bother telling anyone. A different waiter then brought me out the mac and cheese and I sent it back and said I was waiting for the crispy potatoes. More than halfway through my pizza the crispy potatoes showed up and were mostly burnt. (They are more like thick potatoe peelings not crispy potatoes). I was able to eat about 3 or 4 that weren’t. We explained to the waitress that we would not be paying for the potatoes when she came to take our plates. The whole situation was very awkward (having to cancel the Mac 3 times including when it was sent over to me) and none of the servers were apologetic just agreeable. I’m leaving 2 stars because my partner said his pizza was one of the nicest he had ever had and he was very happy with his choice. I left feeling very disappointed and hungry.

Great value and quality of food. Good atmosphere too. Friendly staff. Hot honey dough balls on the new menu are great. Update: 18 if us for a Christmas get together accommodated with ease and served quickly. Many had not been for years and were very impressed by the food and service. Thank you!

We came to the pizzeria as a group hoping to use our student discounts. The restaurant was almost empty and the food middling. The issue was that after paying the waitress said that she could not accept our student discount codes. We asked why and she went to consult with someone at the back. She then said it was an xmas policy that the general manager implemented over the Xmas period but was not listed anywhere. Instead of paying 8gbp for a pizza I ended up paying 16. Dissapointing and will not be coming back.

Server Charlie was so helpful and friendly, served very quickly even though it was busy, food was very good!

My fiance and I had 2 pizzas ,the taste was good but the crust was kinda dry and burnt

This visit was our first in around four years and sadly reminded me why we stopped going here. Food was ok but fairly mediocre and the whole experience patchy - meals did not come out at the same time. Mine was not warm throughout. Not cheap at all and the only high point was the doughballs.

So, 4 adults and one 3-year old early evening. Not too busy when we arrived, but filled up quickly. Ordered sharing dough balls as a starter, which were delicious. To be honest, I tend to struggle with Italian cuisine because it just seems to be countless variations of pizza and pasta. So, it was a pleasant surprise to find a Nicoise salad on the menu for a change. I had that, the others ordering a classic pizza each. There were no leftovers, which says a lot about the food. Desserts were pretty standard fare, with the exception of more white chocolate dough balls, which are bit like profiteroles but dough rather than pastry. Finished off with an espresso. Food plus a couple of rounds of drinks came in at around £25 per adult. Service was fine once we'd ordered. Would I go back? Yes.

Been coming here for years and there is one member of staff who sticks out. Wendy. Quite frankly she’s marvellous - always friendly, kind, caring. I was there in 2018 pregnant and having just found out my dog was very unwell and she was so considerate and kind. We now visit with our two children who she makes a big fuss of. They adore her. Heard today she’s been there 20 years! Wonderful. It seems she’s well known in Hitchin - friends have also mentioned her and said how brilliant she is and what a great experience they have when she’s there.

Charmaine ... I don't know her name but she is an older woman and made us feel so welcomed and really went above in beyond. She looked after us, was super attentive and will definitely be coming back because of her!

Food and atmosphere was amazing but health and safety training needs to be reviewed as the woman who served me, coughed into their hand before picking up basil and adding it to my pizza as it had fallen off (and handling others food without washing/sanitising her hands). 3.8 stars

Stopped by on the off chance for a early dinner and was seated straight away. Team was amazing and attentive. 100% would recommend the Bruno Pizza -Amazing

We came as a family group for my son's 16th birthday. Food was as good as always and there was the usual fight over the doughballs! Fantastic service from our waiter who really made us feel welcome and made sure we had everything we wanted. Nothing was too much trouble for him.

Food was nice very nice pizza. However was told to download and pay on app after getting home realised that the kids eat free hadn’t come off so called the restaurant only to be told that staff have to take it of manually and that to get a refund I would have to go online and chat to someone I tried this and no response. So sadly I won’t be returning.

Lovely, good sized restaurant with friendly, welcoming staff. Atmosphere was relaxed, food quality high, portion sizes generous and prices reasonable. They never fail to meet our expectations. Well worth a visit

A genuine disgrace, check your bill before you leave, you’ll be charged for things you waited two hours for and never received.

Too busy, too hot! Starter was tasty however, lasange very disappointing & burning hot...sweet fine. Overall disappointing & very expensive for what is really fast food not good food.

I've visited the Hitchin Marketplace branch many times, but this last visit was awful. We'd booked a table on Sunday, June 9th, for dinner with friends. On arriving, we had to wait ten minutes to be seated—the restaurant looked like a bomb had gone off, with so many tables waiting to be cleared. We were ignored by very harassed-looking staff and there were three delivery drivers waiting blocking the entrance. Once we were finally seated, the person serving us listed off all of the things they'd run out of. My starter was cold and my main was undercooked and soggy. I get it, people sometimes have a bad day, but this experience was poor.

The staff were excellent, very attentive. They greeted us extremely friendly showed us to our table, were very helpful with drinks. Checked to see we were happy with our meal

Rude staff, had it before and vowed would not come back, made the fatal error of coming back to find staff and service still rude and poor. Learn from my mistake and avoid

I don’t often feel compelled to leave reviews but in this instance the service was so utterly appalling that we in fact didn’t receive ANY service, drinks or food. Now, me and my friend are pretty easy going but after half an hour of sitting at a table (in a 3rd full restaurant), even we decided to go elsewhere for our meal (which was really good by the way and superb service). God knows what happened to the couple behind us who not only had been waiting longer than us, but on several occasions were ignored when they tried to get your waiting staffs attention. We both watched on in amazement at family being served a matter of minutes after they were seated (they arrived 15 minutes after us). Do I have to have a family to be served at your restaurant?? I would highly suggest speaking to your serving staff on the evening of 29/04/24.

Good sized, well spaced out restaurant with friendly welcoming staff. Atmosphere was relaxed and staff attentive throughout our visit. Food quality was as always high, portion sizes generous and prices more than reasonable, especially with the benefits of the Pizza Express app.

I always enjoy a Pizza Express meal and think their pizzas are amongst the best on offer in the UK This particular venue is located near the market square in Hitchin and whilst in has no parking i found on the street parking immediately outside My dishes of Halloumi bites ( These were a first at Pizza Express and not very tasty ) were followed by a Romano Paddeo Pizza which was delicious and leman roulade which was also outstanding. The restaurant itself has plenty of seating but is looking slightly tired My service was excellent and a credit to the normal standards Highly enjoyable and highly recommended

I have been going to Pizza Express Hitchin for as long as I can remember. It’s a great setting and it has always been refurbed regularly. It’s always got a good atmosphere and I’ve always felt comfortable, whether popping in for lunch or being more dressed up for a celebration. The food is always great and the app gives great rewards, which has made it a great place to have a nice meal when money doesn’t go as far as it used to. Special mention to the garlic butter, it’s never been better anywhere else! The staff have always been great and as a family we have got to know many of them over the years. Special mention to current staff, the manager Charmaine and staff member Wendy. They always give a warm welcome, great customer service and friendly chat. They are both a credit to Pizza Express ❤️

We arrived before it got busy. I took my mum and daughter for a mothers day lunch. The food was served hot and fresh and really tasty. My daughter really enjoyed her kids meal and that was great value. My mother and i both had a starter and a pizza and a couple of soft drinks and the total bill was very reasonable. The staff were attentive for their part although the restaurant was nesrly full so they were busy. Will certainly go back again.

All the staff in this restaurant are always friendly and accurate with the orders. - I’ve been to many other pizza express restaurants who always get my special order heritage pizza incorrect. Hitchin team are 1st class in accuracy and service every time!

Such great food as always Wendy the waitress in the Hitchen Pizza Express looked after us and she was superb. Very attentive and nothing was too much trouble.

Very good experience - good food, great service, and I noticed the kitchen staff really knew their stuff. They were even cleaning the dust off the lights hanging over the kitchen area - the proper approach to cleanliness and hygiene. It's the little things that matter.

8 pm on a Saturday night and the waitress apologising as they had run out of hard boiled eggs for the Ceaser salad. A £700M restaurant chain can’t provide a couple of boiled eggs?. I suggested to the waitress that the local supermarket stocked eggs but apparently they don’t have the resources to buy some eggs and cook them - but she did find it funny enough to joke with the manger about it. Also no Parmesan cheese on it, and had to ask for Ceaser sauce which I think we were charged extra for- on the positive side the pizzas were good- ironically one complete with eggs

New menu is great and staff much improved since last visit. All in all couldn't fault it. Good food and great service.

2nd time I’ve visited with my wife and my two autistic daughter ( they are sometimes wary about eating out) as this is the second time we have visited I knew the girls would feel comfortable there. We had the same blonde long haired Manager as last time we came in we received brilliant service She recognised us and took the time to have a conversation. Very lovely young lady Food was beautiful service was amazing the tall chap who served us was super chirpy and friendly too Also lovely, how the girls were able to go up to the counter in the kitchen and look at their food being made which the manger recommended (great set up) 10/10

First class pizza ,i only have pizza once or twice a year on average,this was the first since before covid lockdown,soi was looking forward to it,and it didn't disappoint,it was excellent, service a little slow but in the waitresses defence it was 5,30 on a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed,overall a lovely meal 😀 👍 👌

An excellent pizza express in Hitchin Town centre. Nice decor and food excellent. Good for young kids with colouring pencils and paper provided to keep them amused. Server could have done with some help as very busy, but it was a Saturday lunchtime.

Menus covered in food, staff ok, pizza arrived with no pizza wheel, and was told they were all in the wash when we asked for one. When we then asked if they could perhaps cut it for us they miraculously found a pizza wheel but by this time it was stone cold. Needless to say I won't be returning.

Cant get a 4 item take out order correct. Missing items delivery driver that cant even be bothered to come to the door with the food. No answer when trying to get in contact. Avoid.

Might be an okay restaurant but I’ve just been woken up at 23:10 by a pizza they tried to deliver almost 4 HOURS after I ordered it. This is absurd, my entire evening was spent hungry and waiting for food (they obviously don’t answer the phone) and now I’ve been WOKEN UP by their pizza delivery. It’d be funny if it weren’t such embarrassingly awful customer service. I just want my money back.

Very disappointed in the level of service last night. Ordered a pizza for a Saturday night in at 18:36. Order number 134156527: Initially had a delivery window between 19:15-19:30 which was moved to 19:50-20:10 as driver was not available. Continued to wait until after this time so decided to ring to see what was going on. No answer at all despite ringing numerous times. The delivery time was then updated again 20:45-21:05 2 and a half hours after ordering. When the order did arrive at 20:49 it was stone cold and the delivery receipt stated it was ready to collect at 19:38 so had been sitting for over an hour. I can understand some nights are busy which might lead to delays and not being able to help delivery drivers being late. But the App clearly states the Pizza will not be cooked until a delivery driver is ready. So no excuse for receiving cold Pizza couldn't call to complain on the night as phone lines was just going to answer machine. All in all not what I expect from an established brand and will never get a delivery again and would highly recomend other customers do not either. Better to eat inside what is a nice restraunt and normally good quality food.

So many people letting their children play mobile/tablet games on full volume. Obnoxious. The staff were aware but did nothing. Won't be going back.

Excellent food and service as usual!

In general, poor soggy pizza, over priced. Much better out there. Zizzi, the vic and Radcliff arms all are better. Avoid the halloumi bites, they seem like a cop out of the off cuts rather than a premium starter.

We eat here now and again when we receive pizza offers. Food and service usually good but not today. Glass of French Rose wine corked but replaces. Pizzas cold and uncooked - satisfactorily replaced and taken off bill. Service slow and a couple of things forgotten and had to be repeatedly asked for. May be just a bad night but really need to up their game.

The thin pizza crest is what I like the most and on top of it it tastes too yummy

Good was up to usual PE standard, service was excellent, atmosphere was a little muted, but it was a weekday. The prices have definitely gone up though...over £100 for 3 of us, and we didn't go all in. 😮

Myself and the wife have become quite fond of it here, tend to eat at the Hitchin restaurant quite regularly. Today we popped in for a late lunch. All staff on previous visits have been amazing. Sash who served us today and has done before was very polite and accommodating, great service. Excellent and tasty food as always, look forward to our next visit.

Really friendly staff member looked after us. Made sure everything was OK with our gluten free food and that our little girl had everything she needed.

A very decent pizza restaurant. A good range on the menu including lower calorie options. Everyone in my party enjoyed what they had. In particular my lime sorbet was an excellent finish. The service was both good and friendly given how busy the place was and the small number of staff on hand. A reliable place for a meal out. Recommended.

We have visited Pizza Express in Hitchin a few times in the last year and not only is the menu reasonable and caters for all the family but the service is always impeccable, so friendly, polite and really engaging with the kids! Thank you!

I should say first of all that my family and I have been to many Pizza Express restaurants in many different places over many years (decades!) and have usually been well-pleased with the experience. This includes numerous visits to the Hitchin Pizza Express over the past 3-4 years, with which we have usually been very happy. However, on a recent visit, two of us in our group chose a Leggera pizza (specifically, a vegan giardiniera leggera pizza) - We had also ordered starters and didn't think we could manage to eat a full pizza, so we opted for one with the 'salad-filled hole'. We have had these before on many occasions at other Pizza Express restaurants (and quite probably at this one too). However, this time, we were really disappointed with the 'salad' in the middle ... It was just a handful of rocket (I think) leaves with a bit of dressing. Nothing else. In the past, I think my leggera pizzas have at least had some mixed leaves and a couple of cut-across cherry tomatoes! Each of these pizzas cost £15.45 (more than the equivalent full-size pizza), and I think that represents very poor value for what we got. Lesson learnt for us! In fairness, we had no complaints with the other food items, and the service was good.
