Pizza Express in Dacorum

Popped in for a quick bite to eat as we were staying in the Premier Inn above. Very Covid secure, gluten free choices for me.

Minimal service, average food. Vegan pizza was soggy in the middle and pasta was very oily. Pricing high, although O2 offer helps!

Very disappointed, we come a lot and over time staff have become awkward and manager also. Always hesitant to accept alternative tenders, o2 vouchers and vouchers from their own app. Told to sit as different tables if we split the bill.

Ok. So it wasn’t very busy. There was two staff in the kitchen and one on the restaurant floor. Well there was a second but I guess she was management and did little. So service wasn’t great. Not that the girl that was alone was poor. Maybe young with little experience but pleasant enough. Had a starter that was very good to be honest. But most of the mains (pizzas) were all burnt a bit. And it wasn’t just ours. Other orders made suffered the same fate. The restaurant spent most of the 2hrs we were there in burnt pizza dough smoke and smell. So the food not great. And service generally poor. A disappointing visit and I won’t be returning to this particular outlet.

I had a lovely time at this Pizza Express. The waitress was extremely helpful and didn’t interrupt us at all. The food was fantastic and the dessert was delicious. I loved my experience here and I always do! It is sad that Pizza Express is near going bust!! Thanks very much Pizza Express

Service was good, the new pizzas (porchetta etc) were good and the Festive Menu was very good value. Improved since our last visit.

Visited here whilst staying at the premier inn and catching up with friends. Could of done cutting the pizzas up but having said that, All plates were empty and we enjoyed it. Staff were friendly, wasent overally busy. Going to say 4/5 on this visit.

Thoroughly enjoyed my evening meal here with work colleagues. The service was friendly and helpful and quite quick. Recommend the Pollo Forza - nice and spicy pizza

Food is good and the staff are very friendly however the hard floors of this restaurant amplify any noise hugely. When I visited there weren't many people but the noise from cutlery, crockery and glasses being collected or stacked, and chairs being scraped on the floor every time somebody arrived or left (or whenever the waitress wanted to move them about) was horrible. Jars the ears all the time. I think the problem is the floor - PE put softer floors down and people might enjoy a visit more

Had an early week day dinner with my family. I do like Pizza Express and the service was friendly. The food is good but I agree the menu is overpriced. As is mostly the case with me my pizza was delicious but I don't get a hot pizza from these guys. It's usually warm but if not eaten quite sharpish it will go on the cold side. I guess I'm just unlucky. The kids menus are good but my only gripe was my daughter wanted the chocolate brownie and wanted to substitute the strawberries and icing sugar for a scoop of ice cream instead. Now at other restaurants we have been to they just do this for her but Pizza Express wanted an extra £2. Her whole menu was only about £7! I paid it and this scoop was tiny. I just thought that was a bit tight. I like the mini desserts with coffee they offer if you fancy something sweet but do not want a full sized afters. On the whole an enjoyable meal.

My wife and I had a great lunch after some light shopping in the town center. The food was tasty and served promptly, and the service was great too. We were served by the manageress who looked after us and provided good recommendations for food. The restaurant does need refurbishment, but the food and service makes up for it.

Incredible food with excellent service and also very wheelchair accessible meant we could relax with an excellent meal and a few drinks after browsing the shops on the new highstreet area. Staff were extremely helpful and definitely would go there again on our next holiday to London.

The roman pizza was perfect and we did enjoy the starters too! The tiramisù was nice and creamy. Staff nice and smiling....We will definitely come back!

Served by Jess B - service was attentive. Food was good, however the pasta was way too spicy and a lot of water had to be drank to help me get through it. Should be "good" - 3.5 stars if allowed.

I needed a simple and quick meal on a weekday overnight visit to the town and this suited the bill exactly. Hemel Hemsptead town centre is not renown for its eateries! Lots of "take away" and "home delivery" outlets. Pleasant staff and good pizza. But like many of their restaurants, I do find them very noisy due to the stark decor.

I was staying locally and tried to order a food item to collect, the website wouldn’t allow. Three attempts to call the restaurant with no reply. Appreciate can be busy so waited and tried twice more, nothing. Disappointing poor service, and lost sales.

Not very big so booking would be adviced, lovely staff great service. Very clean and much the same as many of the pizza expresses i have visited in the past.

Had a great meal at Pizza Express early evening ... but the greeter was extremely grumpy. Come on just leave if you hate it that much. Staff nice generally, great value, good pizza.

Came here with work colleagues on a Friday night. 7 of us. Nice big table. Staff were slow on bringing drinks which was strange as not busy when we sat down and 4 wait team were standing in the corner chatting.

As this restaurant is relatively close to us, my wife and I have eaten here on a few occasions and after not visiting for some time, we popped in for an impromptu lunch yesterday. I have no complaints about the food nor the service.... all good... but the ‘deco’ (or lack of) is quite ‘sad’ and really in need of an ‘overhaul’. The place has a very high ceiling and is very lacking in ambience and I feel could do with a make-over...

We visited on a Saturday lunch time when the restaurant was crowded with families and children. The staff were few, but they certainly worked hard, especially the manager who rushed about clearing tables and serving customers. We went there because one of our party was vegan and we were enticed in by the vegan menu. They weren't disappointed. Also we managed to get a code online for 2 courses for £11.95, which was very good value.

Had a voucher for a birthday bottle so had a bottle of Shiraz. I ordered new Romana Ragu at 14.75 and partner ordered Pollo Con Funghi (not on menu but available at most restaurants) had a tastecard so with the wine being free the evening only cost £14.75. The pizzas were very tasty and we both ate all of them.

Visited here during the week and it felt like a pizza cafe with none of the charm or atmosphere you'd expect from a Pizza Express.

We decided at the last minute to eat here and were accommodated very well. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was amazing, from olives and sundried tomatoes to calamari starter, penne Bolognese, (just a few of the delicious morsels) Realy enjoyed the evening. We used a voucher code with no problems and it made the meal even better value than it already was.

My first time to this place...it was nice and had a family feel about it. The waitresses were so helpful with describing what sizes and what certain ingredients were. It was busy but we didnt wait too long. The thin base was paper thin..but very tasty. For my picky granddaughters, aftet hesitantly placing one mouthful I was expecting a "yuk" but got a"hhhmmmm" and they ate it all! We was never rushed and the waitresses only approached us when needed. Not like some places theyre hovering around to take more orders ir trying to rush you. This place was so relaxing!

Went here for a dinner on a Friday night, it wasn’t super busy so we didn’t had to wait long for our food which was great. The staff is lovely and very friendly. The food was nice too! Just the decor could be better, was a bit bare.

Me and friend were shopping in town for my birthday. We were looking for somewhere to eat, and decided pizza express was the place to go! For a Sunday lunch time is wasn’t too busy. And the service was really good, the waitress was good at recommending dishes as we had never been there before. We had a lovely time and the food was delicious. Would recommend and visit again

Went to Pizza Express on my own. I asked if they had a table near a socket and the staff kindly pointed me out to a nice corner table. Food tasted good and staff were very polite. Spent around 3 hours there and really enjoyed my experience.

I've dined at various pizza express and this is definitely the worst I've been to.The whole experience was like sitting in a canteen with grubby walls and no atmosphere. Very disappointed with the pizzas we've had pizzas for a quarter of the price with more toppings. Expected better from a quality establishment.

We had a lovely meal here last night the food came out in great timing and was delicious . we often come to this restaurant as its one of our fave . Big thanks to Katie our waitress she was great what a gem .

Popped in for a quick lunch today. The ‘pizza’ was a soggy piece of gooey dough with liquid and oil swimming on the top of it. I sent it back to be crisped up but it was still horrible so I just ate what I could.

Limited menu few options for vegetarians expensive. My pizza hardly had anything on it including cheese and my sister's food looked & smelled like cat food. Won't bother again.

We popped into he restaurant for our evening meal as my daughter will not eat spicy food and there was no where else she would eat. We ate a pizza meal which was delicious and beautifully cooked . It looked like an authentic italian pizza .

Just terrible. There was a deal on so the restaurant was rammed, the service was beyond slow and unorganised. A mid week meal ended up a a chore. The food was burnt and cold! We were given 40% off the food bill and complimentary dessert, which we took to go! When we got home the desserts were scraps and would have been returned if they'd been served in the restaurant! Initially I empathised with the staff but on reflection if they are overwhelmed due to a mid week deal at some point the 'manager' has to say no to new customers to maintain service! Check out the egg on the pizza! Disappointing.

Lovely pizzas and dough balls, pasta meal with family and teenagers after visiting harry Potter world. Nice place and not too busy for a Saturday night at the nicer end of the town that is more modern. Lovely staff

Staff quite friendly but not attentive enough, by the end we had to chase them considering it wasn't too busy.

The whole feel to the restaurant does not feel welcoming and warm. Service was odd. Food was standard but when my girlfriend asked for a particular flavoured ice cream with a desert the waitress appeared surprised, facially and verbally, which I thought was very poor. We were in a group and no one left a tip.

Arrived on a very hot Saturday for lunch,it eas a big bonus sitting in front of the open doors with a view of the river,staff were great quick and efficient,the pizza itself was delicious and a good size with plenty of filling and served piping hot.everywhere was clean and tidy with nice décor,head and shoulders better than another pizza chain who offer free salads.would return.

Six of us from work went here for a girls night, thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The food was excellent and the service was fast, friendly and efficient. The restaurant was busy but we didn't feel ignored and the food was served hot and in good time. Would recommend!

Our daughter and family suddenly turned up today (Bank Holiday). They had decided to visit Whipsnade and asked if we would join them for a meal. We were not sure if we would be able to get a table for seven at such short notice. When I phoned to enquire I spoke with the manager Kris. He was extremely helpful and said he would set aside a table for eight and was not concerned that I was unable to give him a specific time. We eventually all met up at Pizza Express and enjoyed a lovely family meal together. Our waitress Marika was very helpful and patient in taking down the various orders - all different!! This was a rare time for us all to be together and thank you to Kris, Marika and the chef for making this a memorable occasion. Thanks Kris for also taking a family photo!

Great starter with cod croquettes followed by pizza for hubby and seafood for my self. Both choices were great and followed by a recommendation by the waitress Millie. Excellent atmosphere and the staff were attentive without being overly fussy. Will go again.

My son and I went for lunch last Saturday s was very unimpressed . We have been Regular customers since it opened and I honestly say we will not be retuning . We where seated right at the back of the restaurant right next to where they make the food , was very busy and every time the workers walked past our table my chair was kicked it got very annoying after a while . The food took ages to come out to our pizza was very sparse it was mostly dough all the cheese on one side . Every one was complaining of the wait for there food . I over heard and man not In uniform that was seating people ask the shef if he was on drugs!! It's such a shame as the restaurant was really good and run well but u just get the impression the staff don't care now .

Had a very pleasant meal here with my wife. We must have arrived before the main crush as it wasn't too busy.The waitress Millie was excellent and very efficient, the food was hot and very tasty and we did not have to wait too long.A very nice evening and looking forward to the next visit when the new menu will be in place

Having had a poor experience here and being disappointed, in February, we decided to give it another go, last night. The staff were friendly and efficient although we were kept a little too long for our starters considering the restaurant was not busy. I admit that we were slow to finish our (large) starters but when my pizza arrived, the egg in the middle of the pizza I had chosen (one of my favourites), was overcooked as if it had been prepared a bit too early.All tolled though, yes, a great improvement and we will happily give it another go in our quest for how Pizza Express used to be back in the day.

I think this will be our last trip to Pizza Express HH...the whole experience has rapidly deteriorated over the past year or so. Two waiting staff and one chef for over 40 people in the restaurant?! The poor kids left to manage the restaurant were run off their feet, they were extremely polite and apologetic and clearly not to blame for the state of the place. No sign of any management.. The decor is also extremely tired and tatty, no ambience whatsoever, more like a school canteen. They'll need to up their game pretty quickly!

I booked a table for 7.00PM for just myself and my daughter. We arrived 5 minutes late but waited at the doorway for 5 minutes waiting to be served. It was almost full. The manager was apologetic and sat us close to the door. Unfortunately there is no storm porch and so everytime someone used the door and icy blast hit us. After 15 minutes of this I saw a small empty table and moved. Other Pizza Express restaurants have storm porches and there is space to build one here. Its very bad design to ignore this problem.By 7.30 we still hadn't had our order taken and people who had arrived after us had been given drinks. We grabbed the manager and gave him our order. He didn't write it down but repeated it, one garlic bread, two pizzas and two drinks. The garlic bread arrived 10 minutes later but with cheese topping. I grabbed the waiter and explained that I just wanted garlic bread and he said that they didn't offer plain garlic bread anymore. So I started to eat it and there was no garlic at all. My very hungry daughter dislikes garlic but tried a bite and then wolfed the lot saying she couldn't taste any garlic either. A second waitress then explained that we could have asked for just garlic bread, they would have made it. I'm pretty sure that was what I asked for...never mind.At 7.45 the pizzas arrived but still no drinks. I asked the waiter who asked me if I'd ordered drinks? Really? They were then delivered with apologies.The pizzas were great and rather than wait for the bill I paid at the till. The manager seemed a very nice guy but they were full and understaffed.Not a venue to visit in the winter with a wind blowing and perhaps best avoided if it looks busy. I won't be ordering garlic bread any more.

Food is great, service is great, parking is great and family facilities are fantastic, baby changing is lovely and clean and they even give you supplies if you are short - well recommend.Use your Tesco club card points and save a fortune!!!! Although you need to do this via Tesco in advance and they email you the vouchers straight away!

This restaurant has normally been a favourite of ours, probably visiting once or twice a month. After a hard day's work, it's usually been just the ticket for a quick, enjoyable meal. We visited yesterday evening, a Wednesday. From the moment we arrived we felt things were not as normal and, more or less, had to find ourselves a table. So we did, and there we waited, and waited. It was not particularly busy but it seemed like one waitress was serving while one guy floated around looking busy but not actually. After 15 minutes, having heard his response to other diners' requests for service as "I'll be with you in a minute, everyone wants me at once", we decided to do him a favour and leave, two less people to bother him. We had our meal elsewhere and were happy with that. In fact, we were so happy that we ask ourselves whether or not just to stick with the other venue where service was good, food and drink reasonably priced.

The restaurant is in a new build retail / leisure unit adjacent the Premier Inn. From the outside it looked a little sterile, but I thought I'd give it a go. Table for one please - never much fun when away on business. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, my order was taken quickly and drinks promptly arrived. Food was great and good value with a voucher code from their website. The manager is a bit of a character with just enough banter to break the ice. The staff were fantastic.I'd definitely visit again.

My partner wanted to visit Hemel for the sales. Having arrived late morning we decided to have lunch after visiting the first store.I was not over happy about the insincere greeting “Hi Guys, How are we today” as it just seemed put on and we were a normal couple not a group of lads. We got a table straight away, the drinks arrived promptly and our order was take. My partner started with the calamari which she enjoyed – whist my tomato and mozzarella salad was tasty it was spoilt by being drowned in oil – I would much rather add my own dressing. I had opted for the thin crust pizza (at extra cost) and received the thinnest pizza I have ever seen with an incredibly thin layer of topping – it wasn’t worth half its cost. My partner had the salmon and prawn terrine but struggled to find any prawn. We only shared a dessert as it was part of the lunch time deal. The profiteroles were sickly sweet spoiling their enjoyment. As things were not improving we decided to give coffee a miss.Like many modern restaurants there are to many hard surfaces which create a high noise level,, when busy, making it hard to hear!The meal was a total disappointment and we will not be using Pizza Express again!

Having used Pizza Express occasionally across over 40 years, from the initial concept in Dean Street through to its national chain status of today, it is not what it was since the revamp and menu restructuring and changes of a few years back. It's more that it has moved down closer to its high street rivals than they have closed the gap by moving up. Still just about value if you have some vouchers/offers, but the food is simply no longer as good as it used to be - certainly not at this branch anyway.

We visited here for a business trip dinner in the evening after meeting the lovely manager earlier in the day whilst we were working. Food was amazing and came so quickly which was good because we were all starving after a long day at work.Staff were exceptionally friendly, I literally cannot fault this place. We will definitely be returning for future meals when we are in Hemel for a business trip again and will be recommending to other colleagues.

A group of us came down to Hemel for a business trip and after having kris as one of our customers, we became one of his. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming and the food was amazing, as always for a pizza express. My only critique was that the deserts that we ordered did not come out at the same time, though in comparison to the 5* experience the rest of the night offered, it is a minor setback. The next time we are in Hemel we will definitely be revisiting.

Visit this restaurant quite often with my sister and her children. We came on the first day of half term so it was quite busy. Karl was our server and he was very friendly. The food came out quickly and it was very tasty. We will be back very soon :)

Popped in for a bite to eat with my partner, was served by a polite young lad by the name of Jack who was very helpful and efficient throughout our meal. Food was enjoyable and we would be happy to visit the place again.

Served by Shanan who was friendly and very helpful. It's nice when staff pay attention to allergy requirements so that was appreciated. It has busy moments but is generally not too bad and food was good as expected.

The staff member who served us was clearly not really "with it" and by his own admission was surviving on 2 hours sleep and looking forward to the end of his shift. His menu knowledge was poor - he didn't know what the Tartufo Limoncello was - so I ordered it anyway and was very disappointed with the pathetically small portion. Overall, service was "OK" (though attentiveness to clearing away glasses, bottles, etc.) could have been better and the food was as I would expect from a Pizza Express but when I'm spending £88 on a family meal (even from a chain restaurant), I would like staff to know what it is they serve...

I love this restaurant chain, the menu has a great variety of choices always something to try. I had the diavolo on thin crust, a splendid looking and tasting pizza presented well. Didn't book got a tablet immediately, prompt service and the starters and main arrive in a timely fashion. I would score higher but the restaurant needs some sound breakers to try and absorb some of the noise generated by the diners and kitchen staff. I found myself struggling to have a conversation due to the noise level. I would go back, good food reasonably priced and great location.

Our waitress was Charlotte. She was lovely, friendly and prompt. And food was quick and yummy. Couldn't finish but will take home to eat later. I will be back as soon as I can.

We dined here early Sunday afternoon. It was quite empty and were approached by the manager and we were able to choose our own table. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming.Our food took a while to arrive and we could see there was a discussion going on at the kitchen area. One of our pizzas had accidentally been given to another table, they apologised and we respected the fact they were honest. It was a genuine mistake, however the other pizza was kept warm in the oven, which in the process, the cheese had melted far too much and wasn't as enjoyable. In the meantime the restaurant started to get rather busy and there were queues at the door which made me notice how small it is which is a shame really as people were walking away. It took a while for our table to be cleared but that was understandable considering how busy it had become. Overall, it wasn't a great experience but I would revisit.

This evening we were served my Millie who was absolutely wonderful! Not only was she friendly, polite and bubbly, Millie reassured me my allergies to garlic, onion, dairy and wheat wouldn't be an issue! I had gluten free dough balls, follower by a gluten free base with amended topping! Service was fantastic, food was fantastic and I would definitely recommend!

Highly recommended restaurant. Definitely go for the Sloppy Giuseppe. Very welcoming on the door - Hopefully the tip went to Jack (sorry don't know the surname).

It was very pleasant being able to sit at a table outside. It is a good location on a warm, sunny day. We enjoyed our food but found the service rather slow. It is a big area to service and I found the waiting staff were all over the place.

My son had his 5 th birthday pizza Making party . Children all enjoyed themselves and were very well catered for ,staff were very polite and helpful.especially the host of the party who's name was Charlie , he was fantastic with the children .

A meal that should have been nice and quick ended up taking about 2 and a half hours. From the start we were having to stop the staff and ask if we could order drinks, then we had to stop them again to ask if we could order food and then again for pudding. Nothing seemed to flow at all.The puddings were a rather disastrous experience, after a fair wait for some information about whether the brownies contained nuts we were informed they were not actually available anyway. 5 mins later and we were told another of the deserts we ordered was also not available.A complaint to the manager and the response was along the lines of we weren't the first to complain, and the majority of the staff were being trained. To me her whole reply seemed to just be a series of excuses.On the last visit to the toilets I spotted a bloody tissue sitting on the side of the sinks, I recall seeing a man go in to the toilets an hour before we spotted it with a nose bleed. So it seems the toilets were also not checked regularly.

Had a nice lunch here waiter was friendly and efficient it was not busy at the time so not sure if they are always as good. Food was tasty and all as expected. Left feeling happy and full. Would be 5 stars but some attention to detail on the cleaning is required the walls and pictures on the wall need a good clean.

You can't go wrong with Pizza Express, they cater to all Pizza Lovers and even to those who are not - the food is fresh and prepared in front of you. Staff are always helpful and friendly

visited Sunday evening. Alot of items were unavaliable and the service was slow. They forgot my daughters babychino too!

We had the rudest lady serving us. We said we was in a rush an (hour and a half in the restaurant as we had cinema tickets booked), to which she said hurry up and order then!! Then asked for no sauce in my daughters pasta and she gave me a dirty look, kids starters come out and where good, but we politely asked manager for mains to be cooked now instead of waiting for them to finish which he said was fine. When I looked over again she was giving me dirty look again and clearly saying something about us. Mains come out my 10 year old sister cut into her pizza and there was a massive blonde hair under the cheese. We called our waitress over who said she couldn't see anything. The manager took it away and then said it was cheese!!! It was not cheese it was a hair. At this point we were pretty annoyed but said something quietly to him about how we don't appreciate being called liars to which he apologised. Our server ignored us the rest of the meal. We got our own kids pudding menus (only because kids were included in price) and they are tiny freezing cold brownies wish we hadn't bothered. It's a shame as my pizza was quite nice. I work in a restaurant myself and would never treat a customer this way... The lady defiantly needs training. I get mistakes happen with food but the service was terrible!

The prices in pizza express are shocking for what you actually receive. I ordered a 'special' Hawaiian last night and I really don't see what is special about it, it was bland bland bland! Three pieces of Parma ham and some blobs of chutney sporadically placed. There were massive sections with no toppings at all and the side salad I had ordered was drab and lacked taste (other than the creamy dressing it is served with). Desert was also equally as bland and uninteresting. I haven't been to pizza express in years but I will certainly not eat in their chain again. Also the walls next to our table were very dirty which was a little off putting. The only thing that was enjoyable was the wine. Pizza is such an easy thing to get right but profit margins are obviously the focus at PE rather than decent food.

Always happy with the service and the food is consistently good - great for a quick lunch and equally good for a group of friends. You just know what you're getting with Pizza Express.

Sinceramente non lo consiglio. La Cesar salad era veramente povera e l' insalata utilizzata aveva delle fohlie enormi che ho dovuto tagliare. La pizza aveva le stesse dimensioni di una surgelata piccola. La birra in bottiglia aveva un prezzo troppo alto. Il dolce era buono , ma il conto troppo salato... lo consiglio solo se non avete nessun altro posto dove andare.

Just a lovely place with absolutely lovely food! Never had a bad experience here, it's always beautiful! and the staff are always very friendly. The only issue is I can't used my tastecard at the weekends!

Great food, all the time! Fresh salads and super-light pizza bases cooked to order.Extensive menu and good selection.If you are mindful, you will never pay full price as Pizza Express are part of the Tastecard revolution, and their deals and voucher codes are always in O2 Priority.Adding on the 10% Service Charge and then saying it is optional seems a little cheeky, to say the least.I am happy to tip if I get great service as well as good food but a waitress should never assume nor demand her tip.

Service and pizzas good regardless of how busy they are and always a good atmosphere.Will definitely visit again when in the area.

4 of us went for a midweek evening meal that we pre-booked, and was shown to our table by a very friendly staff member, in fact all throughout the evening the staff were brilliant. I would recommend the mushroom bruschetta to start, it was delicious. I had the American Hottest for my main and that was tasty too, finished with a vanilla cheesecake and everyone else's food was equally nice so I was told.The layout is non cluttered and it looked clean and tidy, they also accept the Taste Card which makes it a bargain. Will definitely be back.
