Pizza 1889 in Cambridge

Just wanna give some credit where it’s due. I haven’t tried EVERY pizza place in Cambridge. But from what I have tried, and to my tastes, this is probably the best. This is maybe my third time trying pizza 1889? It’s simple, thin enough, not too doughy, baked well with a crispy bottom and crispy crust, it doesn’t flop everywhere! And it tastes good. It’s not trying too hard like some other places, (no disrespect). It’s a surprising conclusion, since a shipping container outside the light cinema isn't what you’d expect to be the best, but it’s true. Dave wouldn’t go crazy with the score, but I think it’d be respectable. We are in Cambridge after all haha. For context I always get takeaway here, my review does not reflect dining at the container itself, (the prospect of which I’m not particularly attracted by).

Lovely tasty pizza from this restaurant in a sort of container. Pizza was very good and well made. Pricing ok, but beer a bit expensive. Straightforward if a bit scruffy.

Ordered a meal deal, 2 pizzas, 2 sides. There were some issues initially with the order and they called to offer alternatives. Food arrived and there had been a mix up but they were again quick to rectify it and get the right order delivered. Food was excellent and overall cant argue with the service. Thanks guys!

We recently had a birthday lunch here for our daughter’s 12th bday with 8 of her friends and Ishwar was super helpful. Food was freshly made and we ended up having the place to ourselves! It was fab and I would highly recommend. Thanks again Ishwar and team!

I have been going to this place for years ever since I started university back in 2019. Their pizza quality has consistently been amazing. Especially since the last 2 years, their quality has been even more top-notch. My personal favourites are the No. 3 pizza, No. 2 pizza, Nutella calzone, and their garlic bread. Can’t recommend this place enough! Also, they have a great outside seating area and indoor seating too for big groups. The service is top-notch too and the staff especially makes sure that you have the best experience and allow for tons of customisation too. Definitely recommended in Cambridge!!

The continuous drone of their piped music dominates the square and, even when you try to escape into the adjacent Travelodge, the bass and drums dissociate from the drone and follow you to your room, annoyingly detracting from the chance for a bit of peace until the whole exercise packs up for the evening leaving us with an hour of quiet before bedtime.

Ordered this from UberEats as I’ve always loved the pizza from here. Delicious perfectly cooked food and we were given a free ice cream with a note asking if we could review, which I’m happy to do :) Less cheese is used when you order buffalo mozzarella but that in no way did take away from the great flavour.

Pizza 1889 Cambridge used to be managed by a sympathizer of Benito Mussolini. At least the pizza was good. Now it's managed by teenager. I am sure they are doing their best, but the quality is not there anymore. And other teenagers are effectively camping inside the limited seating space, turning a business into a farce. I am not sure if 1889 has a brand manager at all, the situation is ridiculous.

Very tasty and nice pizza's .Good atmosphere and friendly staff. I recommend everyone to visit this place and you won't regret. My son just loved their pizza and ice cream.

The pizza is delicious and the customer service is amazing. The choice of music is great and the atmosphere is very welcoming.

Used to be nice, now skimp on topping and this order came cremated. They won’t answer the phone and when leaving Deliveroo reviews they deny sending burnt food and you can’t reply

This review is about bad customer service as I can’t comment on the food. I preordered online. We live out of town so it’s a half hour drive into Cambridge. On the way I was very unwell and needed to quickly return home. We tried to call to cancel order, partner called and left a voicemail, and then emailed. We hoped to prevent the order being prepped/cooked (it was 20 minutes before pickup time) and we politely requested if a credit note was possible instead but of course acknowledged this may not be an option. However, neither the call or email has even been responded to, which is not much to ask of someone who has paid you £25.

It was a good pizza. Probably the best in Cambridge. Now it does not have the shape of a pizza - it come in all sorts of shapes according to whom is preparing it - it has lot of flour left at the bottom and the ingredients are not as good as they were before. Most of the time is cold as they cook it in advance when you ask for a collection. Tried twice recently. Disappointed twice. Will never go back again. Bring back the old pizza guys. New staff seems to be clueless.

Terrible service. Ordered 3 Pizza’s. One was burnt, one was underdone, all 3 were cold by the time the served. Worst thing was I watched the staff concentrate more on their ‘food swop’ with five guys’d than serving myself and the other customers.

It’s really bad, and it’s not the fist time like this. I have ordered by Deliveroo, the pizza was cold, late and NO cooked probably! Now is in the bin!

I don’t usually leave reviews but this is the worst customer service I have ever seen. I have ordered on the 12th of November 11 Pizzas via UberEats and they sent 10. I have asked the driver about the missing pizza, he confirmed that this was everything he got from 1889 pizza. I contacted them to ask about this and someone picks up and said “we ran out of pizza so we couldn’t do 11 and then said we are too busy to do the 11 Pizzas” I asked them why they would take an order they cannot fulfil. He said the manager will call you again to fix this. The manager called and I politely explained everything to him he said that I should complain to UberEats because the driver delivered that one pizza to someone else. He literally lied to my face as the other guy I called said “we are too busy to make that pizza and they run out of it”!! I told him not to blame anyone but them as it’s clearly not the driver’s fault! I asked him politely to prepare that pizza and send it to, the manager starts laughing and he said it is impossible and I need to reorder again. What a joke so you made a mistake and I should be the one to fix it. Also, what a rude person that runs this place he was laughing whenever I told him to deliver the missing pizza, I would never order anything from 1889 again and if you are reading this I advise you not to, very unprofessional!

We ordered four pizzas (via deliveroo) - all four were burned, and they'd forgotten to put salt in the dough for the base. They were completely inedible, and a waste of £35. It's the 2nd time we've been badly let down by this place - I won't be ordering with them again. I wrote to them, but they haven't bothered to reply. Absolutely not recommended.

Been refused to be served because the guy who makes pizzas, wanted sit outside. That’s sad… if ur open don’t refuse customers. Don’t want to work? Shut the place and have a day off…

Overall pizzas were ok, but we ordered one with italian ham and it was covered with mushrooms and barely had any ham on it, i would say probably one slice of ham on a12’’ pizza, same with the prosciutto, literally if you cut pizza on 8 pieces (as usual) we didn’t have enough prosciutto to cover each piece. Please if you call yourself Italian, at least make it italian

Horrendous service. Ordered over 50 pounds of pizza and they forgot most of the order and then refused to deliver what they forgot. Go somewhere else. Stay clear of this horrible establishment

Stayed in Travelodge next doors and this was far better than having the nasty pizza cooked by reception staff in bar/cafe. Only a tenner and great quality and taste

Excelentes pizzas, con auténticas bases italianas y coberturas de buena calidad. El servicio amable ya mediados de la semana 10 por 2 pizzas y 2 bebidas tiene una excelente relación calidad-precio.

Estaba buscando un lugar de última hora para comer en Cambridge y la familia quería algo auténtico y con ingredientes de buena calidad. Este restaurante ciertamente no decepcionó y está muy por encima de las cadenas de pizzerías. Las pizzas eran fantásticas con una gran tabla de especiales además de las selecciones habituales. El servicio al cliente es excelente. Después de haber sido decepcionado por uno de los anodinos restaurantes de la 'cadena' cercanos, nuestro grupo de 6 se acomodó rápida y cortésmente y las pizzas son auténticas y rústicas italianas. A pesar de todas las restricciones actuales, el personal fue muy amable y atento y la comida tiene una excelente relación calidad-precio. Definitivamente estaremos visitando nuevamente

Habiendo sido muy decepcionados por una conocida cadena alimentaria (Wagamamas) por casualidad, nos encontramos con Pizza 1889. Qué diferencia tanto en el servicio como en la actitud del personal. Supongo que el propietario hizo todo lo posible para acomodarnos (un grupo de 6) y, al hacerlo, convirtió una noche desastrosa en una completamente agradable. El servicio fue rápido, las pizzas eran de excelente calidad y todo el ambiente muy agradable. No dudaría en volver y recomendar a amigos y familiares.

Pedimos 2 pizzas y 2 panes de ajo, para pizzerías relativamente no demasiado caras a 20. Sin embargo, la pizza de mozzarella tenía alrededor de 3 pequeños trozos de mozzarella y no tenía albahaca, así que se veía bastante triste, y quien la hizo claramente tardó 2 segundos en no distribuir las anchoas y las alcaparras en el otro, solo había 2 grupos de cada uno y parecía que a nadie le importaba menos. Los panes de ajo bien pueden haber sido simplemente masa. Muy decepcionante. La base era bastante sabrosa y la entrega fue rápida, de ahí las 2 estrellas. Sin embargo, no volveríamos a molestarnos.

Ordered from Deliveroo. Really disappointed. Pizza was undercooked - dough was raw and chewy. Buratta was not buratta, tasted like cheap mozzarella. Garlic bread didn’t taste of anything. Chocolate brownie tasted like a chocolate tray cake from Tesco.

Buscábamos pedir comida en un restaurante local y apoyar a una pequeña empresa en la crisis de la corona. Si bien el proceso de Uber Eats fue inicialmente un poco engorroso, Pizza 1889 en Cambridge fue fantástico para adaptarse a una dieta especial. La pizza llegó muy caliente y, por primera vez desde el cierre, toda la familia se animó. Por favor, sigan con este excelente trabajo, volveremos pronto.

Muy decepcionado con la política de la compañía de no aceptar ninguna libra esterlina escocesa. Tenía tarjetas con las que pagar, pero ¿qué hubiera pasado si no tuviera otra forma de pago? Dentro del Reino Unido, la libra esterlina escocesa tiene un estatus legal y puede usarse como la libra irlandesa e inglesa. Sobre las personas que trabajan allí son encantadores y la comida es buena.

Pedido anoche en línea de Deliveroo, para una buena pizza de calidad italiana, solo para estar absolutamente y completamente disgustado con lo que me presentaron. No solo la pizza llegó muy fría, sino que después de mi primer bocado me di cuenta de que el insecto que estaba dentro de la pizza parecía que también estaba cocinado con la pizza. Me puse en contacto con el equipo de Deliveroo de inmediato y me prometieron solucionarlo, pero hasta ahora no pasó nada. Me sentí muy, muy terrible de que esto también les pueda pasar a otros consumidores, por eso decidí escribir esta reseña. Es muy terrible pagar mucho dinero y recibir esta comida repugnante. No estoy seguro de si la comida estaba contaminada o no, en ese momento no me sentí segura en absoluto. Hasta ahora no ha habido respuesta ni del restaurante ni del personal de Deliveroo, lo que me hace pensar que esto no se toma en serio. Estoy muy molesto por esta experiencia, y si alguna vez tuviera que elegir ordenar de este restaurante, nunca lo volvería a hacer. Una experiencia desagradable. Tenga cuidado de revisar su comida antes de comer.

Lovely range of options - we have been twice now, trying different things both times, and have been very happy with our orders. I particularly recommend the No.3!

Finalmente una verdadera pizza italiana en Cambridge. Tuve que solicitar que mi pizza vegetariana no se cortara con un implemento que se había utilizado para cortar una pizza de carne. Me informaron que no tenían otro cortador, así que pedí que se dejara sin cortar.

This is a proper little gem. It really reminds me of the great informal places you find in Italy where people all sit together eating amazing pizza. Upbeat Italian music playing and a great chap making the delicious pizza in a pizza oven in an old shipping container. SO glad we went here rather than to one of the chains nearby. LOVED this!

The place is tiny and on the square in front of the leisure centre. Its in a kind of container but looks really nice and friendly. There are only 3 small tables but you can get take away. The place is manned by 2 staff that cook the pizzas. Most importantly, the pizzas are delicious and very well priced! 5£ for a small one and £10 for a large one. The Quatro Fromaggi is the best one I feel and I would recommend this one the most. All in all, a nice little place with great pizza, without pretence. Must try!!!
