Pitch Bar & Eatery in Cardiff

Went here for food and drinks today, the food and drinks were great, and the staff were really attentive. They have recently changed the menu and condensed it a lot, we were disappointed that the only thing on the dessert menu was Welsh cakes. But we would go back again.

Pitch Bar was a letdown. The staff were rude, and the cocktails were overpriced and tasteless. I won’t be coming back.

Popped in for a cocktail and it did not disappoint! Great service, great selection of drinks and a cracking espresso martini!

Food is terrible - end of story. Potential lack of consistency as feedback from a tour guide to go here, but both meals were terrible including our sides. Fries were even bad, which you don’t expect at a restaurant with a 4+ restaurant recommended by a tour guide. I assume new management or bad night in the kitchen, but neither of us finished our meals our meals and staff seemed unconcerned.

We went for a overnight shopping stay in Cardiff and found this little place om our walk round at lunch time. Stopped for a drink and staff very friendly. My wife had 2 expresso martinis and I had a beer. Thought we would try the food for evening meal, ordered two off burgers and boy were they good, 2 choices og topping with chips and slaw. Couldn't finish it as we had had starters. Recommend to everyone. Top class.

Went in for breakfast this past weekend and it was superb! The welcome, the service and the food were all top notch.

Went for brunch with friends. Service was extremely slow (even drinks took ages) despite the place being very quiet. Food was ok but not as advertised- menu listed things like ‘Welsh butter’ but it was foil packs of anchor. Full Welsh breakfast was disappointing.

Great place if you want to try Welsh food. We especially liked Welsh sausages and mash. Service took much longer than we expected. Other than that, everything was fine. They have local beer options if you want to try. It is very close to Cardiff Central rail station, that is why we chose it for lunch when we arrived at Cardiff.

Worse "cocktail" ever had... over £20 for two "mocktails" absolutely no alcohol in either drinks. Complained and a single shot provided music too loud in competition with peppermint and Heidi's. Not a pleasant experience

A must visit in Cardiff. Their Lamb Cawl is hearty and flavourful, while the Welsh Rarebit Bites are a delightful twist on a classic. Service was top-notch too!

Food was great. This place was recommended by our tour guide from earlier in the day. It was all good.

Avoid. Went to the pitch for my first meal in Cardiff and so disappointed. I ordered Welsh Rarebit bites and they looked terrible. Then I found pictures here on reviews actually looked quite decent so I’m not sure what is going on. Other foods were fine. Not coming back.

Very good sunday roast and service!

Lovely lunch meeting friends. Had the steak which was delicious. Outside space for eating is fab and staff are very friendly and accommodating.

I met friends here for lunch on a busy Saturday and ordered the spinach and wild garlic Mac and cheese. Delicious 😋 and the pinot was pretty good too!

We went for the Glamorgan sausages, no regrets 😍 We were warmly welcomed, the staff took great care of us and our dog. The food is delicious. It’s clear that everything is prepared on site with quality ingredients. It’s a pleasure to be able to taste typical dishes brought up to date (veggie and vegan options) We will come back without hesitation, thank you again for everything!

Went to Pitch for the first time yesterday looking for a Sunday dinner. Oh my goodness what a wonderful meal! My wife & I both had the beef which was plentiful & delicious. The potatoes & veg were all lovely & cooked to perfection. We washed it down with a very reasonable Malbec. The staff were attentive & pleasant & a refit to Pitch. We will definitely be back & I would wholeheartedly recommend Pitch as a top venue in Cardiff’s Mill Lane.

We visit Cardiff several times a year & always make sure to visit Pitch 5 stars all around and they serve the best bramble i have ever tasted, see you again soon

We recently dined at Pitch and while I loved the atmosphere and found the staff to be extremely nice, I was disappointed with my meal. My Bloody Mary tasted like plain tomato juice with no Worcester sauce or any spices, and my bangers and mash was drenched in gravy, which I didn't enjoy and I don’t like it to be like a soup (it was not a bad quality food, just not the way I like). Overall, I wasn't happy with my food and drinks. However, my husband did enjoy his beef and ale pie and drinks!

Compliments for the very cheerful and friendly staff. We ordered Cawl and Pie, both very tasteful. Reasonable prices. Portions are not to big, but no worries there are desserts aswell ;-)

Had a works outing here and must admit the food was great. The staff were amazing and quick with orders and the venue was lovely. The staff pre-empted the coming rain and covered us outside before it hit and then opened it back up when the sun came out. I highly recommend booking in advance as this venue is very busy on a Saturday.

I wasn't happy today, and it's terrible, the staff was not nice, there were 3 of us and a dog, they said there was no room inside, and outside they gave us a table for two, where there were 3 of us and a dog - no respect - I went to inside and there were two free tables with 4 free seats each, I came back and saw that you had lied and you had free seats inside... the service was terrible, I was supposed to eat food and drink a few beers but unfortunately the service and the atmosphere said that I was going to miss the place, that it was terrible because every time I come I spend almost £100 on food and drinks and the service was terrible, no smile on my face, They work like forced laborers and I don't feel like spending money I'm very upset 😒

Served and welcomed by friendly staff, the food arrived in good time and we were checked up on a good amount during our trip. We ordered the sunday roast sharing platter which was delicious! Lots of meat on our board and the gravy was perfect. Absolutely loved our trip here and will definitely be visiting again!

Very welcoming and caring staff, serving delicious traditional Welsh food in a lovely cosy atmosphere - absolutely the right place for one of many rainy days in Cardiff. Definitely recommendable.

We are there March 30. Lamb cowl and chorizo macaroni and cheese was fantastic. Waitress was awesome and knowledgeable on all things Welsh. Absolutely recommend!

We had high hopes for this place but unfortunately we were disappointed by the food. The rarebit was pretty good (6/10). The lamb cawl was fair (4/10) and the steak & ale pie was poor (2/10). Both the cawl and the pie had a bad slightly metallic aftertaste. The pie was way too salty and flavors were unbalanced (we couldn’t finish it because it was so unpalatable - a rarity for us). We hope they can improve in the future!

🐑Welsh soup, "Cawl Cymreig" in Welsh, is a mutton and vegetable stew cooked by Welsh people in winter. On March 1, St David, the patron Saint of Wales Day is a day that every household will bring out their own version to commemorate and celebrate. The proportion of ingredients varies, but most of them use seasonal vegetables, plus leeks, potatoes, rutabagas/Swedish turnips (? The translation is so beautiful, it means Swede), radishes, etc., and are stewed with beef or sheep. The slow-cooked Cawl Cymreig lamb in this restaurant can be forked easily, and the vanilla flavor is at the back. I loved eating this stomach-warming thing after being out for a long time that day! I also tried the Welsh rarebit, "caws pobi". The bread is crispy and then spread with a prepared cheese sauce on top and then baked. The secret of this dish that is said to have appeared in the 18th century is in the sauce. In addition to cheddar cheese, it usually also includes Brown Ale, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. It uses sourdough as the base and chives on top to neutralize the greasy, spicy and crunchy texture. Just one bite after another. . . Absolutely disgusting service and I am so devastated how they can discriminate so easily at people on the spectrum. My friend has ASD and unfortunately after the encounter with the staff at this bar started hyperventilating and had to catch the first train home before even having one drink. Disgusting service and I’m scared for my friend because it took us weeks for us to convince her to come out with us. Now I’m not sure she will ever come out again. heartbreaking. I pray nobody in that bar has anybody in their family with neurodivergence. It would be very sad I know for sure they will try to disapprove this claim therefore I did take videos and photos of the culprit. And the staff from the next bar have also said how they have had awful experiences with these certain members of staff.

Great small venue, friendly staff and good food. The quality was better than expected since we used a Groupon. Would absolutely go back again!

I have breakfast here when in Cardiff and always a fan of the service, drinks and the food, the Mill Lane Breakfast was amazing, in a past tense. The menu has changed, and had the full Welsh instead. Some scrappy pieces of streaky bacon instead of back bacon, 2 really snotty eggs, 1 barely browned sausage, some small cherry tomatoes bearly been near heat and the whole plate was stone cold. The toast was the best part, thick and chunky with welsh butter. It felt like breakfast had become another victim of shrink flation! But, at £11 I certainly felt robbed, the atmosphere usually great also had to liste to the most depressing tunes playing, so this breakfast was disappointing. Especially after such a fantastic Sunday lunch!

We were a large party of 13 and even given the pressure of this, we all had lovely food and a great service. Will definitely return.

The staff were friendly & accommodating. However sadly the food did not meet expectations and was disappointing. We wondered if maybe the usual chef was away as the reviews are generally good.

Found this place through various YouTube videos and wanted to try it out. And it was sooo worth it. So especially for the drinks and the appetizer. Clear recommendation: Welsh Rarebits in various versions. If you happen to be in Cardiff, you should definitely stop by.

Visited here pre concert using First Table. I had the Welsh rarebit to start which I absolutely love, followed by the steak which was cooked to perfection! Such good portion sizes & good value for money (even better with first table as it was 50% off!) Lots of good cocktails too.

We went for food here on 29/12/2023 and it was amazing😁 The food was absolutely stunning! The manager (I’m so sorry I didn’t catch her name) was an absolute gem along with everyone working. They made us feel so at home, had a good laugh and a joke with all the staff. Overall 10/10, we will definately be back❤️ Ps Long Island ice tea is top notch here🤩

I went here with a few friends and we were sat outside but the place stunk of nasty toilets. The food was like eating dry wallpaper, bland, souless, tasteless. I've have better food from a can. Come on guys you need to do better than that, you are in the middle of Cardiff, prime location to do well and you serve that food which I wouldn't serve to a rat. You really need to make the place smell better too. Staff were fine but there are fundamental flaws. Fix the smell, fix the capacity, it's so choked up when I walked inside. Absolutely work on the food. Word of mouth is very valuable and you won't have returning customers. The owners need to have a serious rethink.

Never in my life have I had such a warm and cozy welcome, what a stunning staff and such a great attitude towards service. The food was delectable. I had been craving Welsh rarebit for years and it was great to finally satisfy that craving with some traditional and homely food. The burger was juicy and flavourful, and the Guinness plentifull. Terrible Xmas buffet. £19 each I believe it was for Yorkshire puds with stuffing & sausage, Chicken skewers, fish goujons, roast potatoes loads of veggies with small dip & some mince pies & doughnuts. We were 16 & there wasn’t even one of everything. Forgot some veggie things with flowers. Not good.

Firstly, the ambience was exquisite. The team was really nice and patient. The waitress suggested Welsh sausage and mash, which was really good. The rarebits were delicious and filling. The Welsh loaded fries were not 'loaded' enough. We went looking for lamb cawl, however, because of the long cooking time, we couldn't try it. The team was really kind and offered us a take away. We weren't able to go back for the lamb cawl, but will definitely be coming back.

Me and my fiancee wandered in to Pitch on a whim. Despite turning up 10 minutes before the kitchen was due to close, we were welcomed in and seated straight away. The staff were friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was relaxed and cozy. Furthermore, the food is hearty and delicious. I have to recommend the beef and ale pie, it's absolutely exquisite. A small establishment with a big heart, if you're in Cardiff and you want a bite to eat, give Pitch a go!

We loved the atmosphere and some of the food. We went there to try the traditional welsh rarebits and Glamorgan sauvages. They were good and we liked them. The desert however, a wesh apple pie, was really disappointing and was a bitter ending.

We picked out this restaurant as they had advertised a Welsh cooked breakfast on their menu and once we had arrived they were promoting their genuine Welsh ingredients at the entrance. However the dish did not match the description, the food was average but had none of the Welsh ingredients listed, including Welsh butter (regular butter was used) and a Welsh pork and leek sausage (we were served a cheap plain pork sausage). The beans were also supposed to be 'bacon beans' and all we got were regular baked beans. Having highlighted this to the waitress she acknowledged our feedback and said she would pass it on to the chef but said that unfortunately they could not give any discount. On reflection I was irritated at this as they had saved money by using cheap ingredients and it had no Welsh authenticity at all. Seems as though they are desperate to keep as much profit as they can as they couldn't even offer us 10% off the bill (which would have been around £2.70). Would not return.

Visited The Pitch on Sunday and we both had the Sunday lunch. The plates were piled high with meat and veg, etc. It was delicious. We then had one Strawberry cheesecake and one Apple pie. Again delicious Staff were really attentive, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Will definitely visit The Pitch again on our next visit to Cardiff.

Great little place championing welsh produce in the buzzing Mill Lane cafe bar quarter. With seats inside and out, you can enjoy food and drink in a lovely atmosphere. The service was very good and helpful.

Nice bar, with a good atmosphere, serving tasty food and drinks. You can tell that the front of house staff enjoy working here as this is reflected by the excellent service. It was my first time trying Welsh rarebit, so it’s difficult to compare with other restaurants serving the same dish but, it was tasty and I would have it again. For mains the Glamorgan sausages and the mash were nice but there was too much gravy for my liking that it overpowered the other flavors…perhaps they should serve the gravy is a separate gravy boat. Overall, a nice bar and eatery that I would recommend if you want to try some “local” Welsh dishes.

Had a really great dinner here on Saturday night. Seated outside and it started raining and no sooner had my girlfriend said "oh, it's raining" the overhead canopy was already being deployed. We had Welsh rarebit bites, a burger and a chicken dish. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was fun with 80s/90s tunes. Service was friendly and quick and our waiter had the greatest hair I have ever seen - mad props to the guy it was glorious! Will definitely pop in again whenever we're in town.

The outside seating is very nice and the service is fantastic. We had sandwiches for lunch and the bread was probably the worst white dry bread I have ever tasted. It is recommended that they change bread supplier and try i.e. ciabatta or something else. Drinks are fine and atmosphere good.

Pranzo di lavoro, in un posto che offre cucina tipica vicino alla stazione. Ottimo il “Lamb Cawl” tipico piatto a base di agnello con patate e carote in simil brodo. Accompagnato da pane , formaggio e burro Gallese. Si consiglia anche il “beef &Ale Pie” abbondante e accompagnato da spinaci e piselli. Posto piccolo con terrazza esterna che se piove molto diviene scomoda.

We had already had dinner before coming to Pitch so we had a sangria pitcher and creme brulee. Both were really good and the service was exceptional! We intend to visit again to try their food.

We had one of the worst lunch we ever had.We did wait for an hour for a realky bad quality welsh rarebit and a triple sandwich.Once i asked for a take away box they brough me a greasy and hairy box that i refused even to touch.Definetly not recomended place for eating.

The worst Sunday roast I’ve ever had in my life. It wasn’t even a roast. It was three pieces of left over meat that was heated and grilled. Never coming back here again. Too many other and better choices on the area.

As usual the Pitch never fails to impress, food and drinks were delicious, staff friendly and attentive!! Can’t wait to go back again, they always make a special day even more special, thank you!!

Booked for lunch on basis of positive feedback reviews.We must have picked the wrong day or something.Staff brilliant.Food barely edible.Calamari must have been prepared by Goodyear.Steak was supposed to be sirloin.Really?Burger,well not as described in menu.Have tasted better in roadside van.I get no joy from writing this.We were really looking forward to a long boozy lunch in the sunshine.Drinks perfect.Staff perfect.Shame about the food.

Been here loads of times and love it! The staff are fantastic and the service is super quick. I love the greeters (Tom is hunky) and the vibes. Salvo made a particularly delicious dish. 100% recommend.

Went with a Groupon voucher that had expired due to covid and they kindly allowed us to extend it. The staff are so welcoming here and friendly they cannot do enough for you. Two lovely young girls serving and checking if everything was ok. The roast dinner was out of this world and I would highly recommend it. We chose the pork and it was amazing. Plenty roast potatoes, veg and a pot of gravy. Needed a little nap after it was delicious. Finished off with a coffee. The place has a lovely ambience the owner makes an effort to chat with everyone which is lovely to see. It was fab to see it so busy after all the time they had to close due to the pandemic I wish them every success and we will definitely return again some time soon. Please support this lovely place you honestly wont regret it.Thanks Pitch Bar.

Excellent service from the staff. We had booked a Groupon Afternoon tea with Prosecco at 11am on a Saturday but on arrival we were informed that Afternoon tea is not served before 1pm (this is not advertised on the Groupon website). The staff were extremely accommodating and asked the kitchen to prepare the afternoon tea for us. Within 10min we were enjoying a really nice selection of sandwiches and desserts (I am vegetarian and my sandwiches were served on a separate plate :) )The only negative thing was that the online photos of the cafe looks very different. I would say it is more if a bar that a cafe/restaurant.

Outstanding customer service, the doorman and the man in the pink shirt working on the afternoon of the 26:6:21 was nothing but respectful, courteous and customer focused! Reasonably priced drinks too! Would definitely come again the feel of the place is laid back. Couldn’t praise it enough.

Been there 5 times in past month. THE place to go in Cdf. Great staff, decent prices and a sensible tolerance for exhuberant (not rowdy!!) behaviour. Recomment the Tequilla Sunrise. Shame the Moon Rise is stymied by national lack of in geredients!
