Pippins Coffee House in Sefton

Came for the first time today with my family and I've absolutely fallen head over heels in love with the place! Please don't change an inch of it 🙏 It's so charming and nostalgic, it was a real treat to sit back and take in the atmosphere. The décor is just wonderfully wholesome and I can't express what a delight it is to have a waitress take my order with pen and paper instead of faffing around on some tablet! The staff were friendly, there's absolutely loads to choose from and our meals arrived quickly and were delicious! The children's portions were extremely generous! The prices are very reasonable especially for such big portions. We'll be coming back as regularly as we can afford. Can't believe I've lived in Southport all my life and never visited before, we're looking forward to our next visit already ☺️

We always a love to Pippins, reasonably priced food, excellent choice and the staff will always help to make source you get exactly what you need, even if a little off menu Fast service. Has a really nice feel to the place and will deffo be back.

Ordered two full breakfasts. Sausages were cheap pasty fillings, bacon came with loads of fat, had fried bread. Came like warm. Best part of the meal was the cups of tea. Won’t be going again.

Asked for chicken curry half rice/chips and a large latte. £9odd plus £2.60 expected somewhere around £11.60 charged £12.40. Not sure if the middle aged blonde girl was tipping herself (cough). Didnt say anything. Till staff are short in manners, stone faced, and doing the whole place a complete dis service. Meal arrived chicken was hard square chunks, rice was like uncle bens badly cooked, curry didnt see much love in prep, chips ok, but for 9 quid it looked like a fivers worth and the Large Latte was a small mcdonalds latte. Payed £15 for english breakfast last time, cake and latte. Left thinking hmmm shall i really go back, this time i wont. there are definitely better places at those prices in southport. Malasian (i think) owners really need to address their prices, the staff and the cooked food and it would be a totally better place.

We had our wedding breakfast there as it was a small wedding. The food was lovely, everyone enjoyed what they had and commented on it throughout the day. The two ladies who cooked and served us all where AMAZING, kind, helpful, lovely and worked extremely hard as all 10 of us ordered at once. Thank you so much for a lovely breakfast and making us all happy..

I've been visiting Pippins since I was a young child, and it's always been one of my favourite places for lunch. The food is always fresh and the portions generous.

I took my son here for lunch today. It was the first time I'd been in about 20 years so I wasn't sure what to expect but it was simply wonderful!Spotlessly clean, lots of helpful staff and delicious food. We both had jacket potatoes which came with lots of salad and coleslaw, 2 cakes and milkshakes, all for £19. Great quality and homemade, we really had a lovely time - it was nice to visit somewhere independent that doesn't look or feel the same as everywhere else on the high street.Go and visit them!

Enjoyed our 1st lunch back here and quiet but felt quite safe hope you all stay safe and looking forward to seeing you again soon x

Visited with my mother for breakfast as a treat. Sat waiting for our order for 30 mins, staff completely forgot about us yet managed to serve everyone else, when I asked for it to take away as we had to get back to the car park, the staff didn't even know what the order was. Had to wait again for it to be made, small breakfast barms, scruffy appearance looked thrown together, two barms and two coffees over 11 pound . No apologies, manager disappeared in the back until when we were walking out and him and two other staff were just staring at us like we had done something wrong. Very dissappointing and uncomfortable experience, need to maybe retrain in customer service

Went for breakfast with my little brother, everything was delicious and all health and safety procedures in place. The owner couldn't do enough to make sure we felt safe and looked after but the star of the show, as always, was the food! Can't wait to come back! Xx

Had a baked potato with tuna mayonnaise and salad which was very nice. My friend had homemade soup which she said was delicious.

Food was good although choice was a little restrictive for me. Hubby had a full breakfast which was nice and I would have liked a smaller version but that wasn’t an option. I did however, have scrambled eggs which were lovely.

Food the quality of the assorted sandwiches very poor and slightly stale my friend had a cake from there small choice? Eccles cake and found this to be very socky in texture and dry in taste. Very disappointing and want be back here as I feel some of the prices are steep.

I've been going to Pippins for 27 years. The food is normally good but today it was terrible. The all day breakfast menu sounded good, but my bacon and egg barm was awful. The bacon lived up to its 'all day' title - it had obviously been sitting around all day. It was stiff, overcooked and tasteless. The egg was solid. My daughter's sausage barm contained fossilized sausages. Somewhere in the kitchen there was obviously a tray of breakfast goods keeping warm for hours in an oven, drying out and losing all taste. My advice is to stick to the obviously fresh stuff - the home made soup, cakes and sandwiches. Never get food that sits out under warming lights or could be kept warm in an oven for hours. Sid I complain? No. For one thing it was busy and I didn't want to waste time. For another, I have complained there before and all I got was bemused looks from staff and food that didnt taste much better. I'll stick to the couple of things I know are good in the future.

Great service, a huge (amazing’) selection of food and drinks with fresh sandwiches made to order. Hot and cold meals included a variety of Chinese meals although most dishes were typical English fare. Comfortable seating in a pleasant environment. Well worth a visit. Clean toilets properly signed ‘MEN’ & ‘LADIES’

Miserable person served us. Perfectly good sandwiches thrown away at 3.50pm into big black bin bags. Place closes at 4pm. What a waste.

Absolutely disgusting service the young woman behind the bar couldn’t even crack a smile. Asked her for a tuna melt and she looked at me like I had three heads. Then I ask for a banana milkshake, comes and it’s like yellow slime in my cup. Wouldn’t give it my dog. The young woman then goes on to start walking past me and my friends and says “I’m f**cking fuming”’ like that’s professional in itself. Awful staff and service horrid milkshakes. Place needs to be shut down! I am livid.

Found this coffee shop in Southport we visited Friday, Saturday and Monday each time we got excellent service the food and cakes where delicious, we will certainly be going back next year when down in Southport

I have visited pippins once aweek for the past few mounths were I have always enjoyed there freshly cooked breakfast..have to say the food is always presented to a high standard and also affordable ..although I am a mystery shopper for some of the bigger retailers and food outlets I wasn't at this cafe to judge..but I would of score them in the high 90s.. not only is the cafe spotless the staff are extremely helpful I do belive some retailers could learn a few things from this type of service.. well done pippins!!!!

First time I’ve visited since we had to leave in a rush following an incident with a gun in 1986. Apparently the staff were very shaken following the event but I don’t think anyone recognised me & in fact I think they have different owners now.I was 6, it was a cap gun & I was asked to leave by the old bag in charge.Far better now & the staff were more pleasant. Sausage barm was ok.

Popped in for a light breakfast. The staff were so friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and we shall be going back.

We stopped here today for a quick bite as we were shopping. It’s basic fare like sandwiches etc and some hot food. However it’s all fresh and quick to be served. The cakes were not good, very dry and a bit old but couldnt complain on the sandwiches and service.

All the food is fresh, tasty and great value. The toasted teacakes are delicious. What more do you want?

Went for lunch after it had been recommend to me, as they did nice food and decent portions, which is definitely true. Had an ok panini with plenty of chips and an average side salad you'd expect from a cafe. So for a quick lunch or cup of tea in the centre of Southport this place is fine.

Just had brunch here, mentioned to staff that I was Coeliac and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Staff were aware of cross contamination and made suggestions of what was gluten free.

Me, my dad and Jess go every week for our lunch. The prices are great and the food is excellent. We wouldn't go anywhere else! You have to try their cakes as a treat, they're delicious!

Up the stairs from the main shopping street. Pleasant atmosphere. Self service, but obliging ladies behind counters.

Always go here for a quick lunch. Salads and jackets are always fresh. The soups are lovely with a nice chunk of bread. Hot food also available.

Always time to call into Pippins for a pot of tea and scone and butter. The scones are always fresh ,baked every morning, and if we time our visit early enough they are just out of the oven. It’s hard to beat this coffee house for its food and very friendly staff. Been going to this place for a long time and will continue to do so as long as we can climb the stairs. Another bonus is the piping hot pot of tea.

Decided to have lunch at Pippins.I had my favourite gammon , egg and chips with pineapple, very nicely cooked, my wife had a salmon salad which she thoroughly enjoyed. Staff very friendly and helpful, service good and food good. Reasonably priced.

I do like this place but they steadfastly refuse to cook your eggs the way you request them. How hard is it to cook an fried egg that is runny?

I have been to pippins numerous times and every time I have been 100% happy with the food and service. The portion sizes are large and very tasty. I honestly don’t know if some customers are going to the same place? Either that or their expectations are unusually high, because the guys that work here are polite and friendly.

Staff were very rude and the vinegar we were given just came out like brown water.. there was not a trace of vinegar in it and when we asked for another bottle just got told they would take it up with the manager - didn't get us another bottle or even offer to replace the now soggy watery chips. never again.

Asked for soya milk which is normal everywhere. I’m not vegan but if you are be prepared to drink black coffee or fruit tea . I felt like a Martian just landed from outer space . Staff not in slightest bit friendly. If I hadn’t ordered food would have left . In fact wish I had . Baked beans jacket potato . What could not be pleasant about that ? Bean juice running all over lettuce making it soggy . No plant based alternative at all for drinks . Not good experience.

I don't live in Southport but visit family often. Whenever, we come here the food is always of a good quality. The only thing is I wish they would vary their specials. Otherwise I would recommend.

Regularly visit this coffee house when we are shopping in Southport. We can always get a bowl of soup, sandwich, cake, coffee at a reasonable price in pleasant surroundings.

Came for a quick cup of tea here with my mum a few weeks ago, had never been in prior to this but we were both impressed and had a nice time. The staff were warm and friendly and the place looked nicely decorated. May well come back next time I bring my mum to Southport, maybe try some more that Pippins has to offer as well!

I have visited this restaurant before and each time I have ordered food and had to wait for part of the order to be brought over. I can honestly say the food is very good, it is well presented, and if it is hot food it is hot when you receive it. On this occasion I ordered 2 sandwiches and chips. I was told "Go and sit down and the chips will be brought to you". In the end I had to go and ask for the them as my Mother had nearly finished her sandwich and the chips had been ordered to eat along side the sandwiches. It then results in you leaving the chips as you have finished your sandwich which is then a waste of money.. If the ladies at the counter could advise you of the long wait when you are being served then maybe you could change your mind and order something else. I would also like to mention that the restaurant is up stairs and if you have any mobility issues the stairs could be tough.

Visited for a late lunch a bit apprehensive since last visit , but both had gammon egg and chips, meal was a lot better and enjoyed.

This place has been here for years. I used to visit as a child, so I took my kids today. Had tea cakes, drinks and an Eccles cake. Nice friendly service, good food and clean. Would recommend

We had the misfortune to go to this cafe today. We ordered the panini which when came was obviously going hard before they warmed it up as even after being warned up it was still hard around the edges. No taste to the cheese on it either. We had to ask for a clean glass after being given a dirty one and on pouring the tea and milk into the cup found there were floaters all over it. We were not sure if it was the milk that was off or the fact that the teapot on the inside was absolutely filthy. It looked like they had tried to clean the inside but gave up. Needless to say I didn't drink it. I agree with a previous poster about the two older ladies and how abrupt they were when serving.

Been her several times and it never fails to deliver great food and service. Wide variety of dishes. It is usually very busy so sometimes hard to get a table, which in itself is a good sign. Clean surroundings and friendly staff. Been there today and will always eat here whenever we visit.

Great fresh food at this cafe. Soups and jacket potatoes are always freshly prepared with a simple salad. I often visit as I know it's good and the price is just right. Service friendly and efficient.

With mum for lunch. Soup and a sandwich. Vegetable soup really tasty and an excellent, freshly made prawn sandwich. The lack of a lift up the stairs almost defeated mum, thankfully worth the effort. Recommended. PS A good cup of tea too.

Been here many times and it is one place we head for when doing a little shopping in the town. There is a good selection of snacks and hot meals, together with some tasty cakes. Very pleasant staff and always clean.

Visited for the first time today. Serves very fresh tasty food .. The place itself is very clean and has a nice atmosphere with plenty of seating.. Will go again next time we're in the area .

Whether you want a cooked meal, salad or snack they offer the lot. Staff are friendly & helpful. If you like no nonsense food that hasn't been messed around this is the place to go. The only downsides are the tables are fixed & a little small for 4 & if there are more of you you have to sit separately it is also up a flight of stairs so not accessible for all.

Visiting all the way from Hampshire, places like this just don't exist down south and mores the pitty. The decor is so cool, original, so English. Friendly welcoming staff, and even the best Gluten free cake I've ever had.

I am a frequent customer to Pippins and I go there because it is convenient and they do a reasonable breakfast, there not being many decent places for breakfasts in the centre of Southport now. However, I now would not recommend it as it the service is unfriendly especially by the two older waitresses, who are unwelcoming and I have never ever seen a smile on their faces and they are certainly not polite. However, the younger staff sometimes says 'good morning' The two, shall we say older staff (without being rude) actually never say anything like good morning or have a smile on their face, even though I am a regular customer they just look at you and ask what you want and then shove your cup and saucer to you and then take your money and you feel as though you are being a nuisance to them in serving you....but they do bring the breakfast when cooked over to you and plonk it down on the table without saying a word.....very nice service I don't think. The owner needs to take a look at his staff as after today I am reluctant to go again after being a regular customer for many years. Years ago Pippins in the early morning was very busy, before the staff that are there now and now there may be 2, 3, or 4 customers in at that time...I wonder why? However saying that the food on display always looks appetising. I hope the owner after reading this addresses his staff to be more pleasant as I am sure I am not the only person to have noticed them. If the owner can address his staff to give a better friendly and polite service to his customers then I may consider going again. It doesn't cost anything to be friendly, polite and courteous in this day and have a smile on your face for your customers.

Me and my mum have visited here for at least 30 years , the staff although have changed over the years have always been warm and friendly , it's a great place for a snack or a meal the food is always so fresh and the cake selection is delicious always home made ...I always have the scone it's one of the best I've tasted will always keep coming back :-)

We regularly go to this coffee shop when in town. They always have a good selection of snacks plus main meals if you want, They are always tasty, whether you just have a soup, sandwich or a meal. Staff are always pleasant and it has good seating.

A varied menu with freshly prepared sandwiches and main meals in addition to soup, cake and hot drinks. Well worth the trip upstairs there are a number of comfortable seating areas, we like those by the front windows. Good selection of magazines and newspapers, a great place to recharge batteries during a shopping trip

Well, what a surprise! Although the unobtrusive entrance and staircase suggest this might be a slightly pokey little place above a shop, it is anything but. I understand it has recently been refurbished and I found it to be a warm, cozy, welcoming, relaxed, friendly, busy but calm, and surprisingly large eatery. It calls itself a Coffee House but it is actually much more. There was a large selection of reasonably-priced hot and cold food, a wide variety of sandwiches, and cakes and hot drinks. And all served by friendly and helpful staff. I've only lived in Southport for less than a year and today was the first time I've been to Pippins. It will definitely not be the last.

Called in for lunch, had gammon, egg, pineapple, chips and peas.

Me and my mum come here every Friday for tea and a scone and has been a family favourite for several generations. The management and staff are all lovely and always have time to say hello. The scones really are delicious.

Whenever we are in Southport early on a Saturday morning Pippins is our first stop so my husband can get a full English breakfast fix from Pippins. You would have to go a long way to beat their full English breakfast. If shopping and need lunch Their sandwiches and salads are superb and the staff are always pleasant and helpful. Love it.

This is a great little cafe, lovely staff, very clean...magazines and newspapers provided, I love my bacon and egg barms, orlovely salad selection. ? Even curry lovely

I find this place with my wife by luck. Something told me that it would be a nice place over the stairs to enjoy a tea and a cake. We were right, the staff is so kind and friendly and even the customers around enjoying their pastries really sympathetic.

Today was only the 2nd time I've been to Pippins, was introduced to it last year by a relative. Had lunch there today, a lovely fresh crisp salad, not the usual limp lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato but crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, peppers and courgette plus a a large slice of Quiche Lorraine, then a slice of the nicest Coffee and Walnut cake I've ever tasted and finished off with a cup of Coffee, cost just over £8. Excellent value. This place is a little gem, will definitely be using it again on my next visit to Southport instead of it's much more expensive High Street chain neighbour.

We went to visit my friend in Southport and she happened to work in this coffee house...as we entered the cafe it was really clean and fresh, The food was all fresh and looked delicious...we sat down and ordered a latte and bacon on toast the bacon was perfect as soon was the toast and the latter was creamy I would highly recommend this place oh and the staff are very warm and welcoming x

Nice food and friendly service. Decor is really retro but still feels fresh and clean. Can tell the place has been well looked after.

This place is like stepping back in time to the 70s or early 80s. It looks like it hasn't changed since then. Nice formica booths and good views of Chapel Street. Nice place to take the kids. Food is good and reasonably priced. Newspapers and magazines to read. Good place to go to have a decent bite to eat in a friendly place.

Upstairs, so not for the less mobile. Next to M&S;, Once up there, it is surprisingly big. Lots of choice of food, sandwiches, salads, hot food, delicious cakes. Very friendly staff, efficient table cleaning and clean loos. Visited around 2pm on a Tues and it was busy, Not a 'twee' type of tea/coffee shop but very happy with everything and definitely worth another visit just for the carrot cake

First visit to Pippins, after a good recommendation from family members. Up a flight or two of stairs means you can look down on a shopping street. It was very busy, however we were able to find a table. Food is tasty, we had panini and the bread was lovely and soft. Decor is 80s so retro. Staff were friendly and we will be back.

My hubby and I often pop in for a light lunch on a cold day. They do the best soup with lovely croutons. Always have a choice of 2. I had the mushroom hubby had turkey and ham both hot and very tasty. Choice of bread to go with it. There sandwiches and wraps are all very fresh and the cakes are yummy , staff friendly,place warm what more could you wish for.

Nice & warm place for breakfast or lunch ,various kind of the food cold & hot serving. You will feel like it's mom's cooking - all standard tasty. Cozy chair and good value for money actually.

I remember going to Pippins back in the 80's as a teenager and then completely forgetting about the place, I recently rediscovered and have been back with my wife several times. It was like a blast from the past! I suppose it would be classed as retro. The place is immaculate, spacious and the food is homemade with a wide variety of sandwiches and hot food, all good quality & plentiful for the price you pay.

We visited this place last weekend as we wanted a proper cup of tea instead of the make-it-yourself nonsense dished out by the big chain coffee shops(!)

Stopped for a post shopping coffee and got tempted by a cake ..... quick service, coffee was good and my carrot cake delicious (my mum said her custard was tasty too) wish we had gone here for dinner rather than the garden cafe

Laden with parcels at Christmas? Take a deep breath and climb the staircase to Pippins Coffee House. You won't be disappointed. Gorgeous food, plenty of variety, lovely hot drinks (or cold - your choice). Take the weight off your feet while you check off your Christmas list!!!! Pleasant room, pleasant staff, a nice place to be.

Haven't been here before so though we would give it a try there is plenty of choice in terms of sandwiches and cooked meals i went for the Gammon egg pineapple and chips which was tasty and worth the money , my wife went for the chicken burger and unfortunately the toasted bun was burnt on the outside ( something they should have never delivered) however saying that both meals were edible and filled the gap ( once the bunt bits had been picked off.

My girlfriend and I popped in here for a bite of lunch and a cup of tea. Hanna was delighted to see corned beef sandwiches on the menu, especially as they were on gluten free bread! I had a chicken sandwich which came with a nice side salad. The teas and food were reasonably priced and the café itself was pleasant enough.

After struggling up two flights of stairs I entered a very pleasant tearoom/restaurant. I ordered the fish and chips as I thought being at the seaside they would be nice. The lady who served me was very pleasant and brought me my food. But goodness me my first mouthful was so salty but I could not decide whether it was the fish or the chips. Because I was hungry I carried on eating until I had to give up my mouth was just full of salt and yes it was from the fish. I went to the counter and told the lady who had served me that I couldn't eat anymore as it was too salty so she just came and took my plate away. Before I left the restaurant I asked to see the manager when he came he knew about my problem and told me that I had eaten most of it actually it was half. He then made the excuse that it could have been salty because it was fresh fish. I explained that I was diabetic and should not have so much salt. I told him that the least he could have done was to offer me a cup if coffee on the house his reply was next time my reply was I will not be coming here again

Had a couple of breakfasts here now. All freshly cooked and very reasonably priced. Don't use the tomato sauce, not sure what the brand is but it's horrible!

Visited sat 25 th April with family 3 rd time here had gammon potatoes veg ect and sandwich all with hot drinks .. Went back in afternoon for tea and cake.. My opinion of cafe is very well organised food fantastic .. Choices are very good toilet s nice too will be going back defo when I visit southport... Cakes are lovely and fat free ... Not but had 1 anyways great day great food great staff

This is little cafe cum coffee shop has been in southport for years. It has always been a family favourite. Wholesome food served well and with a friendly face. Its not a place were I feel uncomfortable sitting on my own unlike some big branded coffee houses that you stand out and feel a bit like billy no mates☺Its had a bit of a face lift in recent years and looks better for it. Good food, lots of choices, and friendly service what more do want?

having seen pippins on tripadvisor, we called for some lunch. after scaling the steps we found a bright busy restaurant with lots of choice on the menu. we decided on a sandwich [we'd had a good brekky], i had a egg mayo+cress on brown, hubby had salmon+cucumber on brown also. both came with a good size side salad. a teapot for one + a mug of coffee was our drinks choice. there was a variety of hot meals/soups with croutons/ paninis and the cake cabinet was a feast for the eyes. sadly we were full of salad!. the ladies loos were clean but quite basic. good price + good lunch. we will return.

I have been a regular for many years, they serve a huge variety of foods, from soups, sandwiches to hot meals, want something a little different from what is set out ask, the staff don't mind, don't forget the cakes, a delicious selection of handmade on a daily basis.

I have been visiting Pippins Café for many years and although the ownership has changed several times the café remains the same thank goodness. The food is always fresh and homemade with a great selection from soup, sandwiches, salads, to a wide range of full meals including some unusual dishes. The homemade desserts and cakes are delicious. It's a great café to visit for coffee and cake, breakfast, brunch, lunch or afternoon tea. In my opinion it is the best coffee house/café in Southport town centre.

I love it here.. Small entrance with stairs leading up to the coffee shop.. Excellent selection of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and choices of hot lunches available.. The homemade soup is always my pick.. Beautiful.. People on here have mentioned the decor.. Look passed that.. It is always busy when I go so to me that says lots about the place.. Fair prices too..

I eat in there whenever I'm shopping in town - usually with my Mum. I've tried most of the menu and can recommend the home-made soup in particular and the lemon meringue pie. They have a good choice and the prices are good value for money. David and his staff are very polite and efficient.

We came upon this little restaurant, completely by chance, having completed our shopping for the day in Southport. We were headed for the railway station and as we had a little time to kill, decided to go for a coffee and cake. Having a fair knowledge of Southport over sixty years, we thought we knew of most cafes or restaurants, but had never spotted this one, and wer'n't we glad that we did.

Even though it was very hot upstairs in the cafe the food was very nicely home made decent food. Nothing microwaved at all!!!
