Pine Marten in Harrogate

We came to the Pine Marten for a family birthday, there was 20 in our party and we occupied the private function room, the surroundings were lovely, the food was good and the service we received from Brigita was absolutely first class, she was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble... many thanks Brigita!

We booked this for our family and were disappointed. We waited over an hour for our main course - no apology from the waitress. When she did bring the food she was not friendly or apologetic and was quite abrupt. The desserts were ok. In general the food portions were small. The food was ok but the service was very disappointing and slow. The restaurant was quiet so no idea why.

My in-laws usually love this restaurant when visiting from Portugal. My mother in law specifically books a particular table and thrice checked with the booker, on the telephone, to confirm its location. Imagine our disappointment therefore, when upon our arrival we see people already dining at this table we requested. With the usual array of confused, fatuous looks on the staff’s behalf the manager finally offered us two options; to wait or see the table they’d reserved, opposite the bar, instead! It wasn’t a great table. We were all hungry however, plus having a six year old with us, we just took the table. My mother in law asked to be notified when the other table was free again and they agreed to do so. Only they didn’t! Service proceeded to be slow, food was mediocre, but the rolling of the eyes followed by a curt “they are still eating” when we asked about the table again just about did it for us. Dining here has usually been a pleasurable experience with polite staff that can’t do enough for you. They have somewhat been replaced with people that can’t be bothered and clearly have no experience in keeping their customers content or at least pacified. Shall not be returning or recommending eating at this poor establishment. Don’t waste your money!

Great food, fantastic menu. Our table had fish, belly pork and two rare fillet steaks with a great red wine jus. Food was delicious and the service by Brigit was excellent. She took the time to answer questions we had on the menu. Her attention to detail was great and all food was really good. The velvet booth tables were a nice place to sit as it was out of the way and felt very private. Highly recommended for dinner!

Family Sunday Lunch First visit to this very impressive looking restaurant/hotel Lovely interior and much bigger than I imagined and was very busy We were shown to a table and given menus and then we waited and waited …. quite some time …. then someone came and asked us what drinks we would like … we ordered and again a wait before the drinks came …… We had to call someone after another lengthy wait to ask if we could order some food …we then ordered our main course This time the wait was even longer …. it seemed that staff had disappeared …. After a considerable wait the food arrived ….. It looked presentable but sadly thats the only accolade I could give ….food was cold it was obvious it had been cooked some time ago The vegetables were overcooked and hard as though they’d been sat around for some time and same for the Yorkshire pudding that was cold and my beef was again cold and tough … Very disappointing…. We couldn’t attract staff as again they weren’t to be seen so we ate bits of it but I left most of mine We waited once again for plates to be cleared and we asked if could see a pudding menu We ordered and when it arrived it looked ok but once again was chilly for what should have been a hot desert It was disappointing … The best thing about the meal was the coffee that was hot and very nice …. In our view … lovely venue nice ambience but too few staff and far too many covers Food taking far too long to arrive and it had obviously been hanging around in the kitchen for a long time probably cooked some time ago before being served making it unpalatable I think there are far too many covers for both the kitchen and waiting staff to deal with Such a shame it should be quality rather than quantity.. Seems odd to me when the waiter asks you how was your meal and you say great thanks, except for chicken salad which had chicken which was overcooked,dry, and inedible.My mother who has been around long enough to know how chicken should be cooked. She only chose this meal because there were no fish cake’s available.Why was this?Its on the menu and was lunch time.No offer a reduction on the bill,just a shug from the waiter.Dont have the chicken salad if you go,the rest is fine.

One night midweek stopover. Reception not manned even at check in and check out times. Staff difficult to locate. Food average and service very slow. Food and drinks overpriced. Room very small, although clean and comfortable. Interior decor bizarre.

Disappointing all round. Soup oily and tasteless. Never eaten a tempura prawn sandwich before so thought I would try it. £18.95 for 2 course. 4 prawns in 2 pieces of cold toast bread. Salad was a bowl of shredded veg and a couple of tomatoes. The food is still digesting 8 hours later what I ate, just hope I’m not in for a sleepless night because I don’t want to see that food again. Service wasn’t too bad. The building was beautifully decorated and made up for the food. My friend ate her first course and left her main 20% discount was given as they accepted it wasn’t up to edible. How do they work that one out? Will not return.

Excellent visit to the Pine Marten for my Sunday dining experience. I had carved beef which was cooked to perfection. To top it off, we were treated by Joe and the barman who looks like Rodger Federer to 2 cocktails (Espresso Martini and Cuban Swizzle). I will be excited to be returning to try more of the menu!

venue and surroundings are lovely they really are ! let down by poor food quality . myself and my friend arrived and were taken to our table promptly where the host/waitress took our food and drinks order , we ordered two lunches from the sunday menu and 1 beer and 1 soft drink. our food arrived within a couple of minutes ordering even before the drinks which set the alarm bells ringing , everything was very dry and the meat tough and flavourless, same with the vegetables. advised the waitress of the situation who took the food away and offered a replacement but after the previous performance i wasnt in the mood for another dry sunday lunch so opted for a burger instead which arrived 15 minutes later , whilst a vast improvement on the lunch it was till a mediocre burger, when it came time to pay the waitress kindy deducted the lunches from our bill but still in light of this cannot recommend this place for food , would defo go back for a drink but food nah

The food and service has gone down since we last went there 2 years ago. The Roast diners are small portions and not very nice. Not only the Fish and Chips that was served was frozen (albeit it was on a Sunday) , but the waiter did not think it was worth mentioning it was served with the skin. The Burger was dry and rather tasteless.

Excellent Sunday lunch, well presented and beautiful flavour. Went with my girlfriend and would definitely go back within the near future.

Pine Marten for an afternoon get together with friends. Is dog friendly which is a bonus, especially after a long dog walk

We walked from Betty's having enjoyed a fabulous brunch which, fortunately, sustained us on our hike to meet up with friends who are Pine Marten regulars. It's not the actual distance that's a killer, but climbing Harlow Hill before our destination loomed into view. It's just past the cemetery where I thought I'd be laid to rest. Great vibe in the lounge bar and restaurants from what I could see. And very smart toilets are always a bonus at my age. Drinks service was intolerably slow as we waited fully thirty minutes for a Diet Coke and Harrogate Spring Water. Fabulous company more than made up for this minor hiccup. Simply must try The Merlin in Alderley Edge which is our local from the Innkeeper's Collection. "You'll always know where you are with an Innkeeper's" could easily have been a line written by my pal, Jonny 😉

Dined here with a friend and it was fantastic. We were looked after by Grace and the service couldn't have been better. I had the dirty burger and my friend had the steak. Just delicious and piping hot. The Pine Martin is an excellent place to spend an evening and even the parking is brilliant. Love it !

Had a simply lovely weekend. We were a group of 6 adults, staff amazing so attentive, breakfast brilliant and we visited the bar on two occasions, the lounges and restaurant perfect. Thank you 😊

We decided to visit this restaurant for a family dinner. We were greeted with a warm welcome by the staff, Alex, Maxwell and Milly were so friendly and courteous and the ambience inside was very pleasant. All the dishes were plated very well and was full of flavour. I was eagerly waiting for the Chocolate Bomb and it was beyond my expectations…I was “licking my fingers” in no time! I will highly recommend for family outings. The best part they got huge parking lot next to the restaurant.

Pre Booked a table for drinks and tried the new tarte aux pommes. It was divine - a puff pastry base topped with sliced soft apples coated in a delicious sauce topped with ice cream. Presentation was great and it tasted even better. A perfect end to a nice meal and is easily a sharing desert if you like sharing! I ate most of it myself, lucky for me, my husband isn't a desert person!

I booked a table for Mother's day, at dinner. Upon booking, I was assured that we cluld choose from the Mother's day special menu AND from the normal one. When we arrived and I saw only the Mother's day menu on the table I asked and was told that it was the only menu available that evening, no matter what. So we then proceeded to order from that menu, I asked whether we had to order 3 courses (because it was a fixed 3 courses menu) and I was told that I could pick and choose but unfortunately the dishes were not individually priced so we had no idea what the price was. The service was also very slow we were there from 18.00 to about 19.40 because it took a fair amount of time to get our main. Finally, I ordered the trio of meat and while the chicken and the pork were really good, the beef was not cooked, parts of it were raw so I didn't eat it. Very disappointing.

Despite a fully booked Mother’s Day restaurant, you provided excellent food and personal service in a wonderful environment. Couldn’t fault it. Thank you for brightening up a grey, rainy day! We’ll definitely be back. 😊

The Pine Marten is Fantastic, the building inside looks stunning! The service me and my family had was one of the best i have ever had. For food I opted for the 'dirty burger' which definitely lives up to its name and was brilliant.
