Food is excellent and home made on site with prices that are very reasonable. The restaurant is located on Pine Lodge Farm and run by the family, they in turn run the farm and work in the restaurant. As mentioned the food is worth the effort of driving there, a bit off the beaten track but not too far from the A35, approx. 10-15 mins. P.S. If you are after fast food I suggest you go elsewhere!

Met friends at the Pine Lodge. It was a superb roast meal and the venison was delicious. The option of three different sized meal was so helpful as there were a variety of ages and eating capacity. The choice of desserts gives a lovely variety of home made food and the pavlova is amazing. This is restaurant is family managed near Thomas Hardy's birth place and I would certainly say it is the best in Dorchester

This lovely little place does a great cream tea; delicious home-made scones with plenty of jam and cream. The outdoor seating is pleasant, in front of the café, with a view of flowers in pots, rose bushes and a pretty Willow tree. Although there's indoor seating available, we sat outside so we could watch the farm in action. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, service was prompt and efficient. You can hear lambs bleating in the field opposite and the farm dogs were really friendly, they tried to make friends with our little Cav! Lovely place and very reasonably priced too.

Superb Sunday lunch with 3 friends and 2 well behaved dogs on a working farm in the heart of beautiful Dorset countryside. Extremely popular and with good reason. It's vital to book well in advance. 2 of us had the roast lamb: 1 had venison, and Liz had the vegetarian nut roast. 10/10 from us all. They offer small, medium and large portions, 3 of us had been before and knew large would have been foolhardy... and would have meant a no-no to their wonderful sweets. Great meal. Lovely farming family. Teas served in afternoon. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays when farm takes priority.

My friends and I have eaten here many times and always found the meals to be good, tasty, freshly cooked, and generous portions with a varied menu. As with many pubs and eateries on Sundays it was a traditional Sunday roast. There was a really impressive choice of meat from venison to chicken and I think I saw pheasant also on the menu. We have never eaten here before on a Sunday but not surprised to see how popular it is - the place was buzzing. But sadly our meals were definitely not up to the standard we normally experienced. Portions were certainly not as generous as usual and my beef was definitely over cooked as parts were charred! Table service was acceptable but certainly not as friendly and as accommodating as on previous visits. Puddings couldn’t be faulted as always so I definitely think today was purely a case of too many bookings and the kitchen and staff not coping with amount of people all probably booked in at the same time. This was a shame as this was not our experience in the past so I really hope this was a ‘one off’ disappointment.

Sun.9th June 2019. My Wife and I had a Sunday roast and chose venison from the seasonal menu. Unfortunately my Wife found venison hair in her meal and the meat was very gristley. We were very disappointed with this as we were recommended this place by a good friend. It was very busy and my Wife's chair was continually knocked by passers by so we just wanted to go. We did complain and the owner was sympathetic and said he was sorry, but the chef was just rude.

Support Dorset working farms by eating a traditional roast lunch in this simple but charming restaurant. The food is good, but no frills. The restaurant was full of local people, who then went to the surrounding garden outside and admired the two huge turkeys. There are also huge fluffy Norwegian Forest cats, and a farm yard with livestock. You can walk down a grassy track beyond the farm to the nearby (National Trust) Thornicombe woods (and see Thomas Hardye's cottage), wild ponies, goldfish in the natural pond and big old broadleaf woods. If you feel you've walked off your lunch, why not stop at the Greenwood Tree cafe (at the foot of the woods) for cake and coffee, before walking back to the farm (for a cream tea). Full of good old dorset food, fresh air, sunlight and feeling at one with this stunning county!

We have visited here a few times in the past. As ever, the welcome from the staff was so sincere and uplifting. The food was great. The menu was refreshingly simple with good square meals at reasonable prices. Unlike so many other places, it wasn't 'up itself' with false airs and graces. It is part of a working farm, and the opportunity to take a peak into the barns and see a whole raft of different cattle, and sheep with their tiny lambs was equally heart warming. Very nice

There is a rule that says, 'Don't over promise and under deliver' and I'm afraid that Pine Lodge is guilty of doing just that. We are a large group of friends who wanted to socialise and enjoy a Christmas lunch. We were told that we would all be sat on one long table, but we were sat in smaller groups on three tables. We had all pre ordered so it was confusing when a waitress asked if we were ready to order. It was also a shame that they had misread '7 turkey dinners' and thought it said '1 turkey dinner' so 6 of us had to change our order. The service was very slow, the food didn't come out all together so we had people finishing dessert on our table before others had even been served. We were there for three hours, which was a bit too long. There were so many people packed into the place, not just us but other groups, that some of us had to keep standing up to let people from another group get past to use the bathroom. And they don't take card payments so it was cash or cheque only, we were foretold though. We were also advised that we could bring our own alcoholic drinks but asked if we could buy any soft drinks from them. Nobody even asked if we wanted drinks at all, we had to flag a member of staff down and ask. It wasn't all bad, the food itself is home made and actually really tasty, if a bit basic. Someone on our table ordered the prawn cocktail starter and was disappointed to find the prawns came battered, and there were only three of them. They also seemed to be rationing the butter (or margarine, hard to tell). I think basically they were ill prepared for the number of customers they had packed in. Disappointing.

3 of us booked and went to Pine Lodge for a delicious, beautifully cooked Christmas lunch yesterday. I had turkey roast, Wendy had the salmon, and Roy had venison with a great orange sauce. We all licked our lips and finished with 3 very empty plates and happily full tummies. We had 3 different sweets too; Wendy had ice-cream but I was too busy tucking in to my "special" Pavlova to notice what Roy had. Finished with tea and mince-pies. Fabulous meals for us all. - Great atmosphere, very good service and friendly team. We came away feeling we'd shared in a relaxed and happy family lunch. I hadn't realised my dogs would be welcome too, but there were several quiet little canines in there. My two were happy in the car park, but next time they can come in too....well, my mature Collie can....not so sure about my chatty little Cairn Terrier! All in all a delightful experience and I'm adding another venue where I can take visitors and be sure of an excellent meal.

It was absolutely lovely, really warm and welcoming. The staff there were very firendly. We ordered cream teas which came to less than a fiver, not bad value at all. I was able to be posh with my tea choice and have a nice little pot of Assam all to myself. The scones were fresh out of the oven, still warm and fluffy and completely scrumptious. A generous helping of jam and cream smothered all over and a good sized teapot which I got three cups out of. Absolutely delicious! On the way out we got to say hello to some very friendly Charolais cows who loved having their ears scratched. Lovely and rural, with such a friendly atmosphere all round and good priced, honest food. Will definitely be visiting again.

The farmer was very entertaining and I swopped a few tales of when I was evacuated to Devon in his Father's time. We are considering a visit to Dorset to include a cream tea here for a day out as we live in Hampshire. Google maps and the occasional signpost led us to this easily missed cafe/restaurant which is sited on a working farm. We were greeted and served by the farmer/owner who was laid back and humorous but always attentive - a real character who made us feel very welcome. He was happy to chat, and seemed genuinely appreciative of the tip that we felt was deserved. The cream tea was excellent and enjoyed by all, with freshly baked (and still warm) scones. We were regularly offered more cream, jam, milk and hot water, always with the same jovial service. Whilst the decor and appearance is not the most up to date, this did nothing to diminish our enjoyment, and we would gladly return in future.

We came upon this tea room quite by chance, and are so glad we did. The building could be prettier it's true but it is part of a working farm and in a beautiful location. They do accept coach parties by appointment, but the group that was there when we were was in a different section of the café and didn't affect us. There was plenty of parking. We were served by the owner/farmer and he was very welcoming and friendly with jokes at the ready. There were 8 of us in our party and we had plenty of tea, milk and hot water with more offered several times. The scones were fresh from the oven and the jam tasted like home made. We asked for more cream and hot water and this was brought quickly. All in all we thought it was a lovely friendly place with good service and delicious food. We shall certainly go again if we are down that way. As we didn't have a main meal, I can't comment on those but the menu certainly looked appealing and the prices were reasonable.

The Pine Lodge Farm Tea Room is tucked away in a beautiful spot, down a track well off the road, with stunning views over the Dorset countryside.Don't expect a posh restaurant. It is a tea room that serves really nice Dorset cream teas and good value home cooked lunches. Yes, it is a little tired looking, both inside and out, but the staff are lovely and welcoming and the meals that we have had there have always been really good. Today, my wife and I both had the liver, bacon and onions. (I usually do, because it's my favourite!) There was a choice of chips or boiled potatoes but we asked for mash, and they were happy to oblige. The liver was beautiful and cooked to perfection with equally nice bacon and plenty of onions. It also came with small portions of carrots, broccoli, cabbage and peas. It really had the feel of a nice home cooked meal. I followed with the home made mixed fruit crumble with ice cream (I could have had cream or custard) and my wife had a coffee. The other thing to remember here is that they do not have an alcohol licence, so you are welcome to take your own wine or beer. That always keeps the price down! All in all, we are very happy to use this restaurant and recommend it to others.

We visit Pine Lodge every year for my Mum's birthday and every time they never fail to impress with the truly wonderful food. The staff are great, always happy to help with lovely big smiles. The roasts are yummy! Proper home cooked food with fresh ingredients. You must try this little gem for yourself!

Tired restaurant, went on recommendation of friends but have to say no idea why they thought it was nice, odd smell about the building, probably damp, fairly clean but cutlery was not very clean asked for another knife and that was also not as clean as it could be, food was hot but nothing to write home about, have been to better places for less money, Sunday roast dinners are said to be very good but I do not think I will go back,

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

St Austell Brewery, this is not one of your best examples. Service is hit and miss, at points, really not good. The front of house staff seemed more worried about getting their own dinner over the diners. Chefs up and down to the bar consistently. Food is average at best. Be careful what you order as they may just change some of the elements of the dish and hope you don't notice!
