Awful food for the four of us. Just like all food frozen from the nearest store. We left most of it and walked out. Unfair to say anything to the servers. It used to be the best pub around . We should have realised when we entered the pub that something was wrong.

Visited for Sunday lunch for my daughters birthday with family who had travelled over from Liverpool. I’m local to The Pilot Boat but hadn’t visited since it’s been under new management. The menu is roast dinner and just three other options which is OK I guess for a Sunday. However, we were then informed they had no fish and chips. Then later we were informed they had no chicken strips after we had already ordered a portion?! There were 6 adults and 1 child in our party. We waited almost an hour for our food. There was only one other table eating and the place was pretty empty. At first three roast dinners were brought out, my friend refused to eat his as it was cold with just warm gravy over it. My two older children ate some of theirs as they were so hungry but also said it was cold. At this point four of us are still waiting for our meals and about 10 mins later out comes the kids meal and burger meals. At this point my patience had ran out. It was my meal yet to come out whilst nearly all my family had finished. I was told the kitchen was so small so they had to cook in stages! I told them I’d came out to celebrate my daughters birthday and wanted to actually eat with her not half an hour after her! It was absolutely shambolic. I’ve lived near The Pilot Boat for 5 years and my family have ate in there before and all been served together. I also remember how busy it used to be on a Sunday that you had to book or wouldn’t get a table, but that small kitchen still managed to serve all the customers with good quality food and in a timely manner. I actually felt a little sorry for the bar staff who were apologetic but something needs to be done here or I fear this pub will close again. It was empty yet the pub across the road was thriving. We left after our ‘meal’ and went there for dessert as the whole episode in The Pilot Boat had been a joke really. A costly one at that. The cost of two meals out of the seven paid for where refunded but my daughters birthday was spoilt and I can’t put a price on that.

Dog friendly, lovely staff, didn't have food but did look nice

Absolutely woeful. Would not recommend at all. In fact it was crap and the food made us feel much the same after too. Place has really gone downhill in a big way. Better off finding other places who offer much better food, atmosphere and service elsewhere.

Order meals scampi no garden peas so had mushy peas no problem with that salt and pepper chicken with rice and a curry sauce took order then came to table and said no rice so had chips food came the chicken that came was not salt and pepper nothing said as what ever it was it was tasty. Ordered sweets ask what was special cheesecake ordered that and sundae vanilla. After couple of minutes came and said no cheesecake so replaced with a waffle that didn't have Nutella. My sundae still hasn't arrived after friend had finished hers ask about it it came in another 5 mins it was not vanilla was strawberry ice cream with sauce in a dish no flake no wafers they had ran out. The food we got was nice but nothing like we had ordered no one came near when we had finished to see if we had enjoyed it. As I say food we got was nice but something wrong or replaced on each dish.

Went for a fish and chips as the photos looked really good online. Was presented with fish and fries. The fish was soggy and was just mush on your plate. The mushy peas were just watery peas. The people were nice the food let the place down. Won't be returning.

First visit to The Pilot Boat with the family this evening. We walked in to a warm welcome from the friendly bartender and smiles from the customers near the bar, presumably regular locals. It’s a smaller pub restaurant than most but still feels very spacious and comfortable with vintage wooden fixtures and a touch of tasteful modern upholstery. An excellent touch was the provision of activity sheets and crayons for children. My learning disabled brother loved this. The food arrived prompt, hot and beautifully presented. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals with particular highlights being the homemade chunky chips and the vegan sausage and mash… absolutely delicious! We were told there are some recent changes with the menu but all in all, a good selection of classic pub fare with several inspired options. It would be fantastic to see a vegan dessert included in future, this would complement the excellent vegan mains perfectly. We met chef Danny and it was very clear just how conscientious and dedicated he is and how important customer satisfaction is to him. We all agreed, he should be very proud of what he’s producing at The Pilot Boat. Equally, the level of service from the lovely Lewis was much appreciated and together they made our experience just wonderful and one we intend to repeat again soon. Thank you both.

Lovely pub . Regula r in here for years... Though a pub with no beer till Fri ( on a Tue) suggests the management don't give a toss about customers. Hopefully prove me wrong

Was there today 28th June excellent food and service the girl who served us was brilliant even served my wife with a desert that wasn't on the menu couldn't ask for a better service thanks

Undercooked and cold food. I had to ask for it to be cooked properly and heated. The cheese on the mushrooms hadn't even been grilled, the garlic bread was cold and again the cheese had not been grilled properly. The chef then came outside on three occasions in chef whites with a dirty cloth in her hand and started stroking dogs. So food which wasn't cooked properly and touching animals in chefs whites is not good.

Nice bar staff can't tell about food or atmosphere as it was quite but seems nice

My best friend and I came here on Saturday 6th April for her belated birthday meal. We both ordered the hunters chicken, my friend ordered the fries and I ordered the home made chips! The food was delicious. The home made chips were to die for! All the food was piping hot! Great value for the price! The staff were also lovely and very attentive! It’s not the first time I have been to The Pilot boat for food but it was the first time for an evening meal. But all the other times I have always received great food and great service from the staff. Can’t wait to return!

Used to be lovely but not so much now

We got a warm welcome from the barman, and Chloe then looked after us perfectly - you know it's going to be a great meal when you're asked if the music needs turning down (it did not). Our food came quickly and was superb - perfect fish and chips with mushy peas for him and garden peas for me, with tartar sauce as standard. It was a flying visit for us, but we will definitely be back for the brilliant food, drinks and service. Spot on.

First time I've been in since the refurbishment and new owners. Very impressed. Perfect pub grub choices for food. Reasonable prices and very generous portions! The size of the home cooked chips have to be seen to be believed. We both thought the food was delicious and the new decor was fab. Great place to eat, will definitely recommend and definitely be back soon.

First time for us joining friends who have been a few times. After a lovely Easter Sunday walk along the beach/prom we managed to secure a table & opted for Sunday lunch each. 3 of us had chicken & 1 beef. We had a dog with us & he was treated to a sausage which was a lovely gesture. The service was fantastic, very warm welcome, smiling staff & really friendly during our visit. The food was absolutely delicious with generous portions all cooked to perfection. Dessert was really tasty too but we shared 2 between 4 as we were quite full! Highly recommend this lovely place.

Been going to the Pilot Boat for many years. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was disappointing. The food was very good as usual- steak and mixed grill but the evening was let down by the lack of heating. It was so cold, that we needed to keep our coats on, resulting in us leaving earlier than planned. Definitely not what we want when dining out. We will return in the summer, when it should be more comfortable.

I arrived unintentionally just before the breakfast deadline and so could not resist ordering the Pilot Boat special breakfast. WOW, there was double bacon, sausage, egg, black pudding and hash browns, and mushrooms and beans (could have been a bit warmer, microwaved perhaps?) with buttered toast so crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. 10/10. The beer and service were excellent too. I will return for more!

Very disappointing lunch. Been once before having been recommended but wasn't happy with meal then. Very tough steak. After refurbishment thought would try again but sorry we did. Partner was served the wrong meal (although two similar on the menu, server wrote the wrong one down). Partner didn't complain but accepted mistake. However, the beef turned out to be as tough as old boots! I had the fish and chips and the fish was overcooked as the batter was not crispy but very flat and felt like rubber. The onion rings were overcooked too. We were the only ones in there who were eating and it took at least 30 minutes for our meals to come out so we assumed all freshly cooked, so couldn't understand how poor the quality of cooking was.

A friend recommended this place, the food & service is impeccable. Go there - you won't be disappointed 🤩

This is a tired pub but must be doing something right to be off the beaten track next to the Mags. I believe it has just been taken over and due a refurb and run by 2 great people so I look forward to returning then . I shall review again then. Returned today as now under new management. Dog friendly pub a short distance from the beach. Staff were very helpful, in particular when we asked where nearest shops where & explained that we had forgotten doggy black bags, member of staff Chloe who lives upstairs with a dog herself brought some down for us. The food was also very nice.

Had Sunday lunch with the family. 6 of us.my wife and I chose beef.alas it was tough as Wellington boots.to be fair 2 other in the party had lamb shanks and they were fine.

Came for a drink but felt most unwelcome as not eating. Showed into tiny area opposite bar even though only one table was occupied for food were I tried to sit. So many staff and no customers. Drinks prices outrageous. What a shame Food used to be outstanding here. Heard it’s completely changed. Won’t be returning

We called into the Pilot last minute after a walk on a Friday evening for food and were surprised to see so many tables free. All I can say is - lucky for us! We chose some proper winter favourites : Steak pie & mash and Steak & kidney pudding and mash. Could not fault it. Arrived at table steaming hot, mash was creamy and vegetables were lovely and fresh. Portions were generous. No pictures as we were too busy eating!! Staff were lovely and friendly and they even brought us an extra jug of gravy!

We booked a table for dinner (Thursday evening) thought it would be busy, we where the only 2people in there. We liked the share bowls how disappointing that these are no longer available. The prices have gone up but the quality has gone down.. a real shame as it was always good value for money. Won't be back unless the menu and prices change.

We used to come here all of the time and enjoy it, since it reopened I’m not sure if it’s different management but the place has completely changed and not for the better. The staff are rude, unapproachable, ignore you on entering the restaurant and the service is poor. A real shame that this place has changed so much

We went for Sunday lunch with our daughter and grandson. The service was shocking and the food was expensive and well off par. Not enjoyable at all.

Great pub, good beer and good music.

Our food took over half anhour to come out, when it arrived my chicken was pink inside to be told that nothing wrong with it so i could not eat it. My partner had lasagne which was frozen and slapped in a dish and micowave as it was full of grease. Food gone down bank since taken over, bring back the old owners please. Spent about £45 not worth it. The ferry pub i would recommend better food and it's not grease at all and very polite staff.

My family and I visited for a pre Christmas meal, glad we booked a table because it was so busy. It was our first time visiting since the new owners took over and we love it, the refurbishment is a great improvement, the bar staff were the same and the service staff were great. We ordered the sharing platter to start which was gorgeous and a generous portion. Followed by fish and chips, pie and chips and chips and pork belly. We all loved our food and agreed we will return!

We heard the Pilot Boat had been refurbished, so decided to book a table for dinner. We were very impressed, the new owners have made significant improvements. The menu offers a range of homemade food. To start, we selected the sharing platter which was very good. For the main course, I opted for fish and chips and my husband went for the steak pie. Both were excellent. The chips are worth a special mention, they were lovely, large and similar to roast potatoes. The service was very good, which combined with good food means we will definitely return.

We had our Christmas girl's meal out last night, and all 9 of us were very impressed. Very generous portions, and affordable prices. 2 courses at £19.99 and £23.00 for 3. Food was home cooked, really tasty , and the staff were great, very attentive, and accommodating. Only suggestion is for the people who the ordered Christmas dinner, would have liked a bit more gravy, so maybe a little gravy boat might have been a good idea? But we were having such a lovely time, we didnt even ask, so no big deal, sure if we had it wouldn't have been an issue. I am really looking forward to coming back with my family, and sampling the every day menu. The refurbishment looks very nice, and singer came on later which added to the atmosphere. A very enjoyable evening, excellent food, fantastic value, and brilliant staff! Well done to the team, keep up the good work!! 😁

Had a very enjoyable evening with friends at The Pilot Boat. The service was friendly and welcoming. The food was very good, and plentiful - thank goodness for elastic waistbands! Particularly grateful that the music wasn't too loud so we could hear ourselves whilst talking. Thoroughly recommend this hidden gem.

Was looking forward to meal as had heard good things. New layout and decor is quite nice and staff very friendly and quick with service. We both had lasagne and I’ve never had one like it and not in a good way unfortunately. Mushrooms in the dish, half melted cheese on top with cold tomatoes. Pasta itself was mushy which was bizarre. Side salad was nice and garlic bread fine but for the price (over £40 with two drinks) this was very expensive as well as not very nice

It was my first visit since the recent refurbishment, and I must say that standards have been maintained, if not improved. My son(s) and I tend to call in for the breakfast, before going for a walk next to the river. The 'standard' order is great at £7.45, and I was more than pleased when informed that the price includes a regular Americano coffee too! We waited no longer than 10 minutes to be served, and I honestly had no complaints about the quality of the food, and value for money. We'll definitely be back!

I had the fish today , was absolutely amazing. So fresh. Hubby had steak and ale pie, said was the best he's had . New decor is so much more inviting. Will be back often 👏👏

Went to the The Pilot Boat for breakfast this morning. Not been before but has just been refurbished and looks fab! Full english breakfast was cooked to perfection. Nice relaxed atmosphere and great customer service. Will definitely be back to try the main menu.

I came in here on Saturday there was a hair in my food and the chicken was red, the people who took my order were very rude. The food made me feel very sick the next day and the food took over 45minutes to come. I recommend not to go the pilot boat

Cracking pub Excellent food & service

Fantastic food with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We were looking for a cosy place for a family meal and we would go back in an instant. Staff were very attentive, friendly and informative. Food was delicious and all needs/dietary requirements were met without an issue. Best thing was that my kids were welcomed - another establishment labelled as 'family friendly' turned us away because we wanted to eat later than 4pm.

first time dining in the pilot boat - dog friendly which is good, but pretty much pushed over to near the door where it felt a bit cold and drab ... approached barmaid to ask if they had any Porter cask drinks and was met with a blank face, explained it was similar to Guinness and got a one syllable 'no' response and that was that, the reaction to me was not friendly or even 'bothered' ... ordered drinks, Beer was okay, wine tasted cheap ... ordered Fish and Chips, waited about 20-25 minutes for it ... not particuarly well presented but tasted good and was hot so overall the food was nice.... reading the reviews before going, the two of us did think it was going to be a pretty good dining out date - however, based on this experience we won't be rushing back

There were four of us and the gammon was hard and inedible and the buttermilk chicken burger my friend had was also hard and inedible so disappointed as we had told our friends that the food at the Pilot Boat was amazing the menu has changed and it would appear that the chef has also changed, suffice to say we won’t be eating here again

Myself and my 4 mates decided to go their for a catch up to celebrate my mates early birthday treat. The staff are very helpful and friendly in my life with good services. The chips was lovely and nice and homemade with spot on food and good services in my life.

This used to be my favourite pub especially for food. Lately I've noticed the food has gone downhill, with costs going up we would expect it to be at least the same. My most recent visit was impacted by the clientele with a big group swearing non stop at the bar, with kids around this was totally unacceptable. I can only assume they were regulars as nobody said a thing to them. I'll never go back. Much better atmosphere elsewhere!
