Really disappointed that no leeway was given with the vouchers for the tea room. Mum's friends had bought them for her 90th Birthday in December, and I was going to take her over for afternoon tea with 'the girls'. Sadly mum's health declined and we were not able to go. When she died in August I found the vouchers, intending to return them to 'the girls' so they could still do afternoon tea in memory of mum. But they had expired, and when I got in touch I was told that it was too late, and nothing could be done. Mum's friends are all pensioners, so £30 is a lot of money. Sad.

The Oak Barn at Pillaton Penkridge This is a place to visit if you like fine food and lovely surroundings whilst you dine. The Oak barn is light airy and beautifully decorated. Spotlessly clean and good staff. You are not waiting forever to be served and there is a good choice of dishes on the menu. The food was served on hot plates which meant it stayed warm . I would certainly recommend a visit .

I had wanted to visit this place for a long time. It didn't live up to the expectations I had. It is a lovely building ( though some areas needed a bit of TLC. ) The area outside looked a bit unkempt. Some plants a little sad. We went for lunch. The food was good, if a little pricey. Had to queue for a while to order. One of the young ladies was friendly and cheerful, the other not so much. We were not asked if everything was OK. Plates collected without a word. I was frankly dismayed when I read that extra hot water for tea would be 50p. Never seen that. Not a lot of choice either. In the past I read of wonderful dishes on offer. There was very little on offer re dessert/ cake. We went to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. I also wanted to check it out for a 90th birthday celebration. We won't be using it for that. Such a shame, it could be so lovely.

A morning trip to Pillaton tea room and garden center. A good sized car park meant there were no issues with parking. The plants were well displayed, a good size, looked healthy and were reasonably priced. We managed to get the last two armchairs in the tea room for our cake and coffee (I can recommend the lemon merangue pie). We were surprised at how many tables were reserved but then seeing the large portions of freshly prepared plates of food being brought to other tables probably explained it. The tea room prices reflect the quality and portion size of the food. The only thing that would have improved this visit for me would have been a larger cup of coffee.(think Costa). Thats not to say the coffee's served are small. I would class them as a good medium size cup. If what you are after is a gentle stroll around a garden center well stocked with some interesting healthy looking plants followed by refreshments then these tea rooms and garden center are well worth a visit. We will certainly be going back.

Very expensive almost £6 for a slice of lemon meringue in the tea room!! Very nice surroundings now they have removated it but you pay for it...I realise all cakes and coffee increased in price but that is extortionate, couldn't even share the portion! Also better stocked plants than previous years

Firstly, the tea rooms are beautifully decorated and very inviting. However, our visit today was extremely disappointing. I ordered a coffee and cake which cost £8. More expensive than the average tea room however I don't mind paying more if the quality is good. Sadly, the coffee was lukewarm and weak. I informed the young waiter that the coffee was lukewarm and he promptly made another and this time the temperature was acceptable. I then sat down to eat my cake - biscotti. This was a real let down! You would never know that this was biscotti as there very little evidence of biscotti biscuit present except for a tiny amount in the middle. The cake had been cut in such a cost saving way, that it was purely a dry sponge and cream icing. I really did not feel like complaining again, so I decided to accept the poor offerings. This is a real shame as it is a beautiful tea room in a lovely setting. However, if you are going to charge high end prices, make sure the quality of the goods match the prices.

Discovered this garden centre cafe two months ago and called for a coffee at 11.30am, we were refused a tea cake as it was a breakfast item and breakfast service finished at 11.15. It is a very nice and comfortable refurbished barn in a lovely setting. Today we were met by a server at the door who informed us that breakfast was no longer being served, lots of information on notices about no changes can be made to dishes. Our 2 coffees came to £7.30 p for a double espresso at £4 plus a latte at £3.30. This is the most expensive coffee I have ever had and with the obvious inflexibility of the owners we shall not be returning. the owners/managers need to study the reviews carefully and be willing to change for the better.

We sadly will not be returning. Gentleman at order counter very unwelcoming, unaccomodating for dietary medical request I had. Even though menu says (wraps pl.) only 1 was listed. I asked for 1 of their paninis as a wrap instead & was refused. If all is made fresh, then why? Tis same price & ingredients just as a wrap. There was no good reason for rude refusal. Nope, won't be back!

A lovely find in the middle of nowhere. Great food, limited menu but that's fine who wants to wade. It was a lovely day so we sat in the courtyard but the main restaurant area was really nice too. Not a great burger fan but we decided on the Cajun Chicken Burger.... it was amazing. Lovely piece of chicken and well seasoned and properly cooked. My personal preference would have been to have with a salad, but the burger itself was lovely. Large chicken piece, bacon and cheese... lovely. Then side salad and coleslaw really pulled it all together. Young staff, knew what they were doing and so very pleasant and amenable. Lovely place.

I liked the old tearoom but this new Oak Barn Tearoom is an absolutely beautiful place that has obviously cost an awful lot of money. I understand that the owners are keen to recoup their investment but the meals are now very pricey and although their blurb on Trip Adviser says the price range is between £4 - £10 we found they were quite a bit more than that. When we visited there was only one other couple in the room although two more tables came in later. I order tea and my husband had a coffee. I cannot drink tea that is vey strong and this was, so I was about to ask if I could have extra water when my husband pointed out on the menu that extra water would cost 50p. I have never come across this anywhere before and we eat out a lot. I refuse to pay extra for water when prices are already high so ended up leaving most of the tea. I was quite happy to wait for my lasagne as all meals are freshly prepared and when it did arrive it looked very appetising and well presented. However, the proof of the pudding is in the eating and looks can be very deceiving as I found out when I tried eating this. There was no way I could cut through it with my knife! It seemed to me it had either been through the microwave too many times or left in the oven too long. When I turned it over, the bottom layer of meat was spread really thin and burned. I showed the the young man who was waiting on table and he said h would replace it. Twenty minutes later I was served a second meal which was not much better than the first except this was only hard and uncuttable round the outside edges. There seemed to be many layers of pasta but very little meat and bechamel sauce. By his time my husband had finished his chilli and being reluctant to complain a second time, I left my meal and walked out I appreciate that prices have risen dramatically and hospitality venues are having to increase their rates to keep afloat, but this was probably the most expensive lasagne I have had recently - the average being about £12. I do not object to paying top whack for quality food but you cannot charge high prices just because the surroundings are pleasant. Sorry to say we will not be going back.

Situated in a small garden centre with a gift type shop, is a Tea Room named "The Oak Barn" at Pillaton Tea Room. Arrogant manager said she did not ask for no mushrooms but no tomatoes strange as they they are not on thst dish anyway. Yes we did get refund but no apology I have heard same of other local Penkridge people about his attitude. Booked afternoon tea 2 weeks in advance, took a note of the date, time and person I spoke to as lacked confidence during the booking process. Arrived on Saturday August 12 to be told booking had not been secured. Having travelled a reasonable distance from Sutton Coldfield obviously was not happy! Asked to speak to a manager however this message was not passed on. After being seated the staff member checked and said they could accommodate us and it would be complimentary. I explained I had a voucher with an expiration date which would need to be extended again. Due to the lack of planning the vegetarian options for me were only cheese and salad. Lacked orginality and quite boring. Apologised but explained more options would be available if they had know in advance. We were also moved following being seated to accommodate a larged party. The meal wash however lovely and the service exceptional however despite being told it was complimentary I was charged. I did not wish to complain again so left. Overall experience was disappointing.

Called in for lunch today after reading good reviews about this place. We ordered two toasted sandwiches but when they arrived my wife's was brie and cranberry instead of bacon and brie as I'd ordered. I informed the waitress who took it back into the kitchen, we assumed to change it. She then returned with the same sandwich and a copy of the order ticket saying this was what we had ordered. I am 100% certain of what I ordered as the girl at the till actually read it back to me when I paid. She obviously made a mistake when she relayed it to the kitchen. We all make mistakes so no blame to her however I was disgusted that the waitress did not offer to change it.Needless to say won't be going back in a hurry.

Asked what vegan options they had, they suggested a plain jacket potato with a salad ( no vegan spread, or salad dressing) I suggested they could put beans on it? My meal arrived with coleslaw added. Wow what if I had an allergy?Come on surely it's not difficult to add a couple of vegan options? It is estimated approximately 15% of the population in the UK follow meat free diet and this number is increasing rapidly as more people are becoming aware of the need to cut down on animal consumption to help to save the planet and become more healthy.

I took at friend on Saturday who had been shielding for 12 months, she was a bit anxious about being out, but felt totally safe and well looked after at Pillaton - from the minute she walked into the garden centre and then tea room, she was totally comfortable and felt safe. We had a lovely lunch, and sat in the sun having a catch-up - shes looking forward to going again with her hubby. Well I booked in advance and paid a deposit as required to do so. I was warned off going here by several people but thought id give it a chance and I'm glad we did!! Took my mom for a very belated Mothers Day afternoon tea, due to lockdown the previous one elsewhere had been cancelled. When we arrived we waited outside and the people in front weren't happy about having waited 10 minutes with no one approaching them, great start! Well it wasn't long and we had our temperature taken at the door and was shown to our seats. At this point we weren't sure what to do as no one approached us yet again, we waited a while and then tried to get a staff members attention, once that had been sorted everything went smoothly. The afternoon tea was really nice, a good selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes... endless tea or coffee if you'd like. The food was really lovely. We had a nice time and the staff are very busy, I understand that they are short staffed and busy but the service could be much better, even my mom commented. We would go again but probably in better times.

On Saturday, we arrived at around 15:20, knowing they stop serving food at 15:30. Unfortunately, we were in a slow moving queue so when we came to order it must have been a few minutes after 15:30. We weren’t going to order a full meal as we knew they stopped serving food soon so we asked for some chips. We were told that the fryers had been turned off so we couldn’t have any. I felt that as we had food menus at the table when we sat down and were in the queue they could have asked ahead if anyone wanted food before turning everything off. Usually we enjoy visiting this establishment as the food is good but this visit disappointed us.

Had a lovely afternoon tea here for a friend's birthday. Good selection of sandwiches and cakes all beautifully presented. A really nice touch was the table nicely laid up with a pretty table cloth. Would definitely recommend this tea room.

Me and husband came here after hearing really good views about the garden centre. It was beautifully laid out and the staff were really helpful. The guy in the garden centre I think his name was paul really help us as we weren't quite sure what we wanted. He was so helpful and really knowledgeable to. While we were there we stop fo a drink and piece of cake. The cake was amazing and very good price. Definitely be recommending the place and we will be returning for sure. Oh and my hanging baskets look amazing.

My mother and I had lunch at Pillaton yesterday. My mother's scampi was fine, but my cheese and onion quiche was just a small triangle of soggy greasy pastry with a minute layer of filling. Very very disappointing, and not cheap at £8.99. I shall stick to just having a coffee in future.

We stopped here en-route to Liverpool after seeing good reviews on TA. Food was excellent and were the staff who served us. It also had outside seating, but unfortunately it was raining. Looks a really good garden centre too....

The service was good and the food was really excellent. Best for me was the wonderful ham and egg salad - not your 90% lettuce with a few slices of tomato and cucumber on top but a full blown tasty salad. The ham was delicious, there was home-made cole slaw and potato salad and chopped up peppers, onion, cucumber, etc along with slices of tomato and cucumber. I had thumbs up from those who had ordered gammon, cod and chicken salad. On coming out everyone saide how lovely their meal had been.

We visited these tea rooms in may and we were very impressed. The food was lovely and the standard of service couldn't have been better. The staff were so smart and friendly. The fact that all the staff had their hair neatly tied back out of the way is a big bonus point to them. It goes a long way in my estimation. We will be back soon.

We've visited Pillaton Team Room on several occasions and been quite happy with the food quality, surroundings and service but standards seem to have slipped in the past few months. My wife had lasagne and I had fish and chips from the main menu but both were quite disappointing and poor value for money as the lasagne comprised two layers of pasta with a little tomato and minced meat topped with grilled cheese and my fish was a beige catering frozen portion like one might buy from Booker. At £12.95 and £11.95 respectively we thought these meals were not particularly good value for money. On previous visits there was a team of young ladies out front running the show who seemed on the ball but they weren't there for our visit so perhaps there's been a change of staff.

What a beautiful little tearoom. Had lunch and coffee here. The home cooked food is lovely. The staff are very friendly and always had a smile on their face even when I couldn't decide what to have. It was very busy which was nice to see. And the food didnt take long at all. Lovely stroll round the garden centre after. Nice couple of hours out the house.

Come here quite often and it never disappoints. I usually have afternoon tea but today I had a bacon, brie and cranberry panini. It was delicious and full to the brim with filling. In some places where I've had the same I usually end up with one rasher of uncooked bacon and one slice of brie. It came with a small portion of salad and I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is great, especially this time of the year when the flowers in the garden centre are blooming. Would definitely recommend and the price is very reasonable.

We were a group of 10 that had booked afternoon tea elsewhere but got let down at the last minute- glad they did now! Pillaton managed to fit us in and it was lovely. Plenty of choice on the menu to suit all tastes. We had the afternoon tea as already planned but lots to choose from. . Excellent value for money, the food was delicious and we all enjoyed the glass of prosecco included in the cost. The staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.

Nice place, staff pleasant but very shocked at being charged £8 for 2 eggs and a portion of frozen chips. If I remember correctly a portion of chips on the menu was £2.75, which meant I was charged £5.50 for the eggs. Disappointing.

I first came across this place, which is on the Penkridge to Cannock road, a few years ago when it was a small family enterprise with home-made cakes and a tiny kitchen. Well, they must be doing something right as today it was busy, and a capable and large staff was dealing with a range of demands from drinks only, to set-piece afternoon tea, to substantial lunches.

A family member lives nearby and loves to visit here whenever possible. She had a special birthday last weekend - 90 years old and we booked a cream-tea for 8 of us. They reserved a table for us, allowed us to decorate it, and then provided a spread fit for a king. Limitless tea and coffee, sandwiches, mini sausage rolls, scotch eggs cut to bite-size, scones, cream, jam, cakes, and more. All presents very nicely by lovely staff who also made a fuss of the birthday girl, but not too much.

Our first visit & what a lovely, warm & friendly welcome 😬 A cosy local with heated & covered courtyard area. We all had delicious crusty-filled rolls, chips & pork pie 😋😋 Rest of the menu & theme nights look great too, just wish we lived closer & it was our local !! Betsy, Bert & Toby ( the dogs) loved the treats too. Thanks for your hospitality, nothing was too much trouble & see you again soon.
